The Guardian:
RIFTS was at least of mild interest to me back in the day as a gonzo kitchen sink setting, but the rules were just a mess. I might pick up the Savage Worlds incarnation at some point. Well, if I didn't have a zillion games going unplayed on my shelves and hard drive as it is.
I have never played RIFTS, but I know it has a reputation for "good setting, bad rules" and the classes being imbalanced. IIRC, you could have one player playing a beggar and the player next to him a mech pilot.
In general, I don't like kitchen sink settings. Especially not when fantasy and science-fiction get mixed. Admittedly, Doctor Who also has aliens, robots, witches, gods and demons and next weeks episode can be in a completely different genre from this weeks episode. I think I don't mind as much because those elements are mostly separate from each other and there is always a sort of sci-fi explanation.
