Re: OOC: Clarifications and Chatter: Four To Doomsday
Hope your employment challenges will be short lived.
On Star Wars: it was a short stint of a Star Wars PBP I played in last year that opened my eyes about how well suited PBP can be to playing a non-verbal or semi-verbal character; AKA, Solving the Wookiee Problem. The system we were using was a light system with semi-random character creation, and what I came up with in the initial, random portion shouted, "You really want to play a Wookiee," so I did.
Turns out that what can be cumbersome or belief-straining around a table, when you're playing a character that some portion of your fellow PCs shouldn't be able to perfectly understand, can be pretty fun to finesse with PBP, as you generally have a choice of approaches to communicating. For something where you're just conveying an emotion, you can just go with bellowing, or pouting, or whatever. Where you're trying to suggest a plan, it can be entertaining to go into how you're miming to get across the gist. And when things are just too complex, you can go with describing the inarticulate noises you're making, but convey the actual content in something marked up to denote that it's you're actual meaning, while leaving the other players to decide just how much of that they got.
