Night 13: To rescue goblins from the mine

The zombie is soon put to rest by the combined efforts of Jurz, Raven, Riza and the goblins and the exit is finally clear for the goblins and their rescuers to leave.

Oopses points out the tiny pile of uncut gemstones that the miners have accumulated tonight and Bully takes charge of them.

Then Team Arda-Nuff and all the goblins depart from the mine, leaving the remaining zombie, skeletons and human prisoners behind. The humans yell, beg or cry to be rescued as well but to no avail.

It doesn't take long for the party to climb back up the tunnel to the gate that leads out of the cliff. The gate is still unlocked as Raven left it. The side alcove 40 feet before the gate still terminates at a closed wooden door that is apparently locked from the other side.

Riza packs away her low light lantern before she reaches the gate so it will not attract the attention of anyone on watch at the fort.

"Could've killed all der humies," he shrugs as they head down the tunnels, "but Kurgan'd only call up der shades for a chat an' dey'd tell on uz anyway.  If wese leave dem alive, den dey'll have to guard 'em an won' all come after uz."

"If'n dey do, den hopefully wese all be long gone before dey find uz !" he pats the Magic Stick fondly.

Outside ...

"Let's go den, after Minmorc and der Dwarf," the hairy little priest whispers.

The door in the alcove is locked. The keyhole is blocked from the other side; perhaps the key is in the keyhole on the other side of the door.

Jurz nods at Dregzy's concern.  "Lets just gets aways from did place. Dat ole neccymancer is going to be cross wiv us when he finds out what we's have done.  I's fink it would be better to give deses gobbos a few bits of our stuff on de way to town, and gets well away from here.   Deses can earns it by carrying stuff for us."

However, he looks the new gobbos over, checking them out, and makes a note to keep an eye on them on the way to town.  After all if they are to start a proper new tribe somewhere, they are going to need some gob grunts to do all the basic stuff of keeping the tribe running.  There is no point being a chief and doing all the work yourself.

Night 13: To rescue goblins from the mine

Raven does manage to push the key out of the keyhole and it drops softly onto the thin piece of leather she slid under the door. She pulls on the leather and the key slides smoothly out under the door. Whoever locked the door from the other side is certainly going to find it a bit more difficult to get back out again.

The 12 goblins that were rescued from the mine glance fearfully at the door as they edge past on their way toward the gate out of the tunnel. However, one of them is distracted by the elf and human corpses stacked along the western wall of the tunnel. Hunger overcomes fear and he sinks his teeth into one of the corpses' thighs. The goblin moans softly in pure joy as he savours the delicious taste of fresh meat. His reaction swiftly attracts the attention of all the rest of the goblins and they all join in the feast. Thankfully they manage to do it reasonably quietly with many a nervous glance back at the locked door.

Raising his eye-brows, Jurz cuts arms, legs and thighs off of the corpses for the hungry gobbos.  Then urges them onward.  He doesn't want to hang around here for any longer than he has to.

 She laughs softly holding the key... then gives it to Dregz to use it or to keep it, or to give it back. She'd let him decide what to do with it. If she got it back she would keep it in case of need later.

"Ok so we leave dat door shut an jus give you guys some stuff."  They probably didn't notice over their slurping.  "Elfs good yeah!" He grins at Jurzi then moves to the gate and peeks outside to check that the way out is clear.

Night 13: To rescue goblins from the mine

Everything looks quiet outside the gate. It is difficult to see that far very clearly in the darkness but Bully can't see any sign of any orcs on watch at the side of the fort closest to the cliff, so you should be able to exit without being noticed.

So now it is just a question of which way you want to go:
  • eastwards along the base of the cliff towards the narrow part where the human horsemen were defeated (that's where the human foot soldiers had approached from at the start of the battle);
  • westwards along the base of the cliff (unexplored so far);
  • climb 100ft up the cliff;
  • around the western side of the fort to the path down to the plain south of the fort;
  • around the eastern side of the fort to the path down to the plain south of the fort; or
  • through the fort somehow?

Dregz examines the key that Raven gives him carefully, and with due trepidation, before mumbling a prayer over it and handing it back to the birdy-gurl with due ceremony.

"Youse should keep it," he informs her in a whisper, balancing the import of his words against the need to avoid attracting the attention of those in the fort.  "Youse could be der keeper of der keys.  Wese should find you some more of dem ..."

The little priest agrees fervently with Jurz's suggestion, finding his reasoning most pleasing to Bargrivyek.

Night 13: To rescue goblins from the mine

Jurz and Dregz favour heading eastwards along the base of the cliff towards the narrow part where the human horsemen were defeated (that's where the human foot soldiers had approached from at the start of the battle).

The freed goblin slaves are more than happy to head that way as well, although none of them seem to have much thought beyond just getting as far away from the fort as possible, as quickly as possible.

Bully determines that Minmorc, Makkal and their herd of horses had gone around the eastern side of the fort to the path down to the plain south of the fort. But from previous discussion you know they would then have headed northeast to the town following the same trail that the human soldiers had used to come from the town to the fort. Once you all get down to the plain it shouldn't be difficult to find and follow that trail.
