Re: OOC Chat

In high school one of my friends had a fearless, psychotic chihauhua. It terrorised the street until one day it messed with a snake.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget

Re: OOC Chat

Bully is no longer 'on the dragons side' since she insulted him (a bit).  At this stage he's up for any of the previous options, such as attacking the dragon, allying with the dragon to attack the giants (and take their treasure), allying with the giants to attack the dragon (and sharing her treasure), leaving to see where the magic stick takes them next.

Moffa said the dragon can just disappear [OOC Chat, msg #779].  So if we try to kill her she'll just go.  Maybe that's easier than tricking her, but she'll still come back for us later.  At least we now have the pearl, so its OK if she disappears (Jurz's point).

The magic stick never takes us anywhere underground, only ever on the surface, above or below the next piece.  So we can't teleport back into the cave, but possibly can teleport back to this ledge if Dregz leaves the Pearl in the cave somewhere.

We don't yet know where the magic stick will take us next, so using that for an escape route could be dangerous.  Dregz won't know where it will go next until he attaches the Pearl.  So we have to accept this risk if we use the Magic Stick to escape from the dragon.

Re: OOC Chat

Jurz doesn't have a strong opinion either way.  That said, he isn't really keen on fighting either the Dragon or the giants -  while treasure is always a nice thing, it isn't a major motivator for the Goblin Druid.  Not does he have any particular like, or dislike, for either the dragon or the giants.  He will, however, go with the tribe's decision.

The 'stick' has, so far, been bringing us to where the next part  can be found.  If the 'stick' is now complete, will it actually take us anywhere, if Dregz uses it?  Or will we be stuck here, and have to get home under our own steam?

Re: OOC Chat

The dragon and the giants are both powerful foes, if the group are not committed he won't push fighting them. He believes that when the rod is assembled it will either lead to another piece or give proper teleportation powers to Dregz so he will now encourage Dregz to attach the pearl piece.

Dregz is firmly committed to attaching the pearl, with or without encouragement or any thought to the consequences thereof.  ;>

Re: OOC Chat

I've been seeing some comments around the place about "one D&D". From a couple of videos on youtube it looks like the wizards are developing sixth edition to be released in 2024. It seems that there is currently some rules which have been released so that the D&D community can provide feedback during development. This video appears to provide good insight into what they're planning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siZGAWdBw4s

Re: OOC Chat

5th edition was rumoured to be the version that united them all (I recall seeing claims that 1st Ed and 5th Ed could merrily and seamlessly join the same party and be roughly comparable) - maybe that lofty goal slipped an edition.  ;>

Re: OOC Chat

I have had to be dragged to every new edition, and still refer to 1st ed material, occasionally.

Some of the early monsters have scared the daylights out of pathfinder parties.

Re: OOC Chat

I can only vaguely remember 1st and 2nd edition, I'd have to research how THACO worked, to me 3 and 3.5 are amazing, pathfinder is copy and paste, 4th was awful and 5th has nearly gotten back to how good 3rd is. 6th just looks like pathfinder for 5th.

Re: OOC Chat

I played a few games in 4th and 5th edition but not enough to master the new rules. I suspect 6th will be the same as far as I am concerned, unless others I play with fall in love with it and we decide to switch .

You know what they say about old dogs and new tricks. ;o)

Hey, I'm only just thinking of getting 5th Ed rules (after the disappointment of 4th - did anyone like it ?), just in case any GMs of my acquaintance decide to try them out !   Be a long while before I bother with 6th, methinks.  ;>

Re: OOC Chat

:). Every D20 based game is a cut and paste of the publicly available Open Licence rules.  Personally, I always preferred the PF Skill structure, although they took a few anomalies from 3e.

I worked out, quite a few years ago, that a new version of D&D is released, when they have rehashed all the old material in a different format.

Personally, I really dislike the published game settings for D&D, Apart from Al Quadim they all seem fairly bland and superficial.

Re: OOC Chat

I get excited about campaign settings when I read a novel or see a show set there but it's really hard to a) find other players that are b) fans of same things. Or when you play Forgotten realms everyone wants to be Drizzt Do Urden and my Bruenor Battlehammer just can't keep up :D

Re: OOC Chat

I think that every 'setting' game, I have played in, lost all of its flavour as soon as players started rolling characters.

Re: OOC Chat

I think there's two parts to that problem - 1) there's usually only minor variations in character generation between most settings, so the only real role setting plays is in a character's background ... and 2) most people have a character idea in mind that is mostly independent of the setting anyway.  Personally I like it that way - treating the setting as being there to provide the history and geography, but not really affecting the character I want to play.

Of the settings I have played, I've only found Dark Sun to have the necessary variation/flavour to sustain unique characters ... but I don't really like the Dark Sun setting.

Of course, outside the D&D realms, I think Paranoia is a standout for a setting that shapes characters ... but that system has (or I should say had, as I think they did try to fix it in later versions) one big flaw in that if it's played properly nobody survives the mission briefing, let alone the mission, so you're constantly rolling up new characters every time you play !

Re: OOC Chat

What I've noticed in different groups is that if everyone is interested in the same fantasy setting that very much flavours and unites the group. For example I played with one group who were all fans of the Lord of the Rings so the elves and Dwarves were very much Tolkiens elves and Dwarves. There was a group I played with where the DM shared a comic series he'd collected about Pathfinder Goblins before we started playing the Pathfinder Goblin Pirates game so we were all on the same page. I'd love to play in a group one day where everyone reads Feist, Tolkien, Hickman and Weis, Martin, Mercer, Flanagan, Pierce, Rowling and they play a campaign in one of their worlds, I love them all.

Re: OOC Chat

Hi all, I'm finally back from holiday and nearly caught up with other things in the real world. I will post in the game this weekend, I hope. Looks like you have a plan in place there already, so I look forward to working out if it all goes to plan.
