LF Caretaker/Owner. Tiny sized, feeds self, vicious when excessively handled.
Can ride on Med sized creature's shoulders.
 Can breath burning stuff.
Help before GM gives me to the retarded goblin.

A request in case I bite the dust. Can you turn me into a vampire lord or a death knight or some other non-rotting, non-icky undead?  :D

Re: OOC Chat

Edited my character description. Apparently, I bought a greatsword and not a greataxe in this game as a backup weapon.

Also, I just realized that orcish Light Sensitivity is a joke; just -1 to attack rolls, Spot, and Search. That's it. It's not like I get blinded or worse when exposed to bright light. Whee!

But that -1 to attack could me if you hit or not.

True, not blinded but probably wouldn't like the light much.

Just my opinion.

Re: OOC Chat

-1 to hit is basically like a 5% greater chance to miss. Orcs get +4 strength, so with the right bow for his strength he is getting +2hp damage every time he does hit. Seems like a pretty good trade off to me.  :o)

Just don't accidentally shoot the bugbear's goblin 'sister', right?  ;o)

Re: OOC Chat

going to grab Skeleton Minion...

Question is:
I got Enchanment and Illusion as my resticted schools.

I think I'd rather swap out Illusion for Divination...

Ideas?

Unless the DM houserules it, you can't pick Divination as your prohibited school. Besides, it's one of the more powerful schools.

Re: OOC Chat

Umm. I have to pick 2.

1: Enchament
2: Illusion or Divination

Divination is NOT the 'more powerful school'. Each school depends on how you use it. There's no school that is better then the others.

So, I don't know where you got 'divination is one of the powerful schools'

Hmm.

You have to pick 2 schools you cannot use unless your a Diviner then you have to pick one.

If Divination was a powerful school then why do you have to pick one instead of two?

Its not.

Sorry Nurzhan.

Re: OOC Chat

Skeletal Minion is pretty good for utility purposes. You get a tireless laborer who will never complain nor need to eat and drink. You can have it start digging a trench in the morning and it will continue doing so nonstop until it is finished. It can also carry heavy loads for you, which is quite useful for a kobold because Small races have a carrying capacity penalty compared to Medium creatures like the Skeletal Minion.

You can use it in combat as a last ditch solution, but it is otherwise too useful and too expensive to employ it as such.

P.S.

The original use of zombies in folklore was as free labor. Living slaves still needed to eat, drink, and rest, while a zombie could work nonstop. In fact, in some contemporary fantasy world's, zombies are used as free labor. Their use as fearless, low maintenance soldiers is just a step away from civilian work. The Kingdom of Karrnath in the Eberron Campaign Setting has a particularly utilitarian view of undead as part of their labor force and military. Their necromancers are pretty much just doing their duty to their country,  and the citizens pretty much see undeath as a sort of immortality. Why let my body go to waste when it can serve my fellow citizens?

And you told me this why?

I knew it all so....I simply ask what everyone would suggest as my restricted school so don't know where I got folklore of the undead....

Re: OOC Chat

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/clas...schoolSpecialization

"A school is one of eight groupings of spells, each defined by a common theme. If desired, a wizard may specialize in one school of magic (see below). Specialization allows a wizard to cast extra spells from her chosen school, but she then never learns to cast spells from some other schools.

A specialist wizard can prepare one additional spell of her specialty school per spell level each day. She also gains a +2 bonus on Spellcraft checks to learn the spells of her chosen school.

The wizard must choose whether to specialize and, if she does so, choose her specialty at 1st level. At this time, she must also give up two other schools of magic (unless she chooses to specialize in divination; see below), which become her prohibited schools.

A wizard can never give up divination to fulfill this requirement.

Spells of the prohibited school or schools are not available to the wizard, and she can’t even cast such spells from scrolls or fire them from wands. She may not change either her specialization or her prohibited schools later."

Re: OOC Chat

I believe its up to the DM.

If he says I can, good. If not, I'll pick something else.

Also, I did not ask for a link to it and would have prefer it if it was sent via PM.

I simply -asked- for what 2 I should restrict.

So please stop.

I always allow PCs to choose any school which includes Divination.

Its not a 'powerful school'.

Its all about how you USE it.

So once again, please stop and allow other peoples views.

I would choose Evocation (weakest school by far) and Enchantment (most of them don't work on your future minions).

Re: OOC Chat

I rarely choose to specialise my wizards,  if I wanted extra spells and less options I'd play a sorcerer.  I think that the spell casters will suffer until higher levels when they'll come into their own.
Minmorc can't wait for the game to begin so that he can challenge nurzhans declaration of party damage dealer, my pointy stick is bigger than yours. And if you are resurrected by a second level necromancer you'll be lucky to keep your skin. I'm sorry but you'll need to find someone much more powerful before you can be dead and still look good. (I will never forgive twilight and true blood for pretty little vampires, bram stoker had it right goddammit!)
I look forward to reading the kobolds description of where it learned necromancy, should be interesting.
So far I think the goblins are cool, I'm already starting to feel a little protective towards them.
Shadows, feel free to sit on my head, if you could clear off some lice we could have that arrangement that elephants and little birds have on the savannah : )
And I'm sorry bully but now that you've pointed out little mothdust I'm getting really curious about what I'm not supposed to look at. I thought it was a goblin but now I'm wondering if it's a little bugbear or an illusion, a messed up little pixie, a really pretty frog, what is it!?

I'm not going to run around, blabbing about it towards mainly goblins :)

So I'm feeling like a outside because I didn't go goblin.

Re: OOC Chat

Evocation is widely considered the weakest of the eight schools of magic because it scales very badly. The iconic Fireball spell, for example, deals 1d6 damage per level, up to 10d6. In 2e, most creatures did not gain HP after level 10, or gain only a tiny amount of HP for each level above that. In 3e and in 3.5, HP scales indefinitely, with monster HD scaling faster than their challenge rating increases. Whereas 2e monsters would have 100, 200 HP at most for the most extreme cases, monsters in 3e and in 3.5 can easily go beyond 300, 400, even into the thousands.

The most powerful blasting spell in Core 3.5, Meteor Swarm, deals 32d6 damage if all four fireballs are aimed at the same target. That is an average of 112 damage on a failed save, or a measly 56 damage on a successful save (and monsters at that high level will save more often than not). A well-built fighter, one that isn't uber-twinked, just one that made smart feat and weapon selections, can easily do hundreds of damage per round. All day long.

Perhaps a better example would be spells at the same level as Fireball. At level 5, the earliest level you can cast Fireball, you will be dealing 5d6 damage. That's 17.5 damage on a failed save, or 8.25 damage on a successful save. On the other hand, if you cast Haste on the party (five targets at caster level 5), you can pretty much double the damage output of the warriors in your party, resulting in more damage overall than if you simply blasted those goody-two-shoes paladins with your Fireball.

When I say that Evocation is the weakest school, I'm not saying that it is useless. It's just that, compared to the more efficient magic at the disposal of the other schools, it ends up being somewhat underwhelming. Remember, context is everything. In a vacuum, Evocation is good. Compared to the out-of-combat and HP-bypassing capabilities of the other schools, it feels underwhelming.

That's my two copper coins. :D

P.S.

I assumed Minmorc was a divine caster based on his character description. Now that I know he is a barbarian, I know he will outdamage me for sure. Fortunately, I can stand safely in the back and snipe at the enemy, so I'll get hurt less often. :D

I am not telling you what to do. I am merely giving my opinion on the matter. I deliberately worded my reply to be as neutral and informative as possible to avoid bossing around my fellow player. If that is how my conversational tone comes across, then I apologize. The Internet doesn't transmit the nuances of body language and subtleties of tone very well.

On the other hand, your tone has been rude and aggressive from the get-go, even before I joined this game. You react with hostility to me and the other players disagreeing and/or poking fun at your arguments, and you become very defensive when you ask for our opinions and we give it to you. Furthermore, your constant, "Wow..." is extremely rude. Your tone comes across as someone who thinks that the other person is an ignorant hick unworthy of your time. Again, this may not be the tone that you intended to convey, but it is what how you are coming across to me.

This is OOC chat, for Pete's sake! We're not supposed to be all serious and IC in here. This is basically the place for fun stuff that we can't have in the actual game.

This is going to be my last reply regarding this matter. Let us move on to another topic.
