Anneth gasps at the mention of her name, and then collects herself.  "Right... erm, well, that does bear some consideration.  Why don't we all look through these?"

If everyone agrees to this, Anneth will turn the books that registered as "bad" or "trapped" or "otherwise unpleasant" on their spines.

Rodrigo looked up from the floor as he examined "Its an extremely large circle of protection or summoning built into the floor. Almost hidden if you didn't know what you were looking for. " Looking over he just nods at the suggestion we should look through the magic tomes though wary "It could be something not in one of these tomes. But getting an idea of what each is about first is still a good plan before we continue to explore this library"

"I'll go with Elwood," Aaron offers. "Books aren't really my thing."

"Maybe you should see if the books are organized in some fashion... like all the magic books are over on one shelf. Might make it easier to find a book on the Seventh Magic."

"You might even find a book that explains the magic circle on the floor. Or maybe the history of this library."

"So, Elwood, where do you want to start? Didn't we circle all around this floor when we entered?"

"No, we didn't. We dealt with the Black Sorcerer first, and then started checking for magic," Elwood replies to Aaron.

"I'm not sure if one of these bookshelves might slide out or up or aside as they are covering the alternate way out of here. Remember, we made a complete circle outside of the library, so I'm not sure how a passage could bypass that unless it was magical."

"We might as well start here... in line with those tables. That way, we'll know when we've gone completely around the room. We should mark it in some way to show we've been here."

As if answering his own question, he pulls out his dagger and wedges it in between two large books and then heads to the right.

Elwood, we aren't even sure that it was the Black Sorcerer.  So I would suggest treading very carefully around here.

Tom clearly isn't worried about being quiet after the initial ruckus the fight to get in made.  However he continues to stand guard at the entrance.

Elwood and Aaron starting searching around the perimeter of library and it isn't long before they come across an opening. The shelves have been cleverly constructed so that they appear continuous, but at one point, the next section of shelf sticks out about 4 feet in front of the previous one, and there is a curved set of wrought iron stairs leading upward into darkness.

"So there is another way out--up!" Elwood exclaims lightly.

"I wonder... does that mean there's a way down as well?"

He goes over to the next section of shelves, pulls out a book at the end about eye level, turns it around on its side and inserts it back in the slot where it was so that it now sticks out.

"That should let us spot it again more easily. I was thinking we should continue our search in case there's more than one of these tricky openings, like one that leads downward."

"Sound good to you, Aaron?"

"Doesn't seem to be anyone home. If the Black Sorcerer was here, I wonder where he's gone?"

Re: Adventures on the Moon

While Elwood and Aaron looked for other ways out, Tom and Mort guarded the entrance where you'd all come in.

Anneth and Mista were searching through all the books on the shelves, but that was probably going to take hours.

Rodrigo, Anya, Gierdon and Umbro were just hanging around in the center area of the library. Rodrigo was still trying to solve the puzzle of the large symbol on the floor.

As expected, the books seemed to be organized in groups by subject, though it was sometimes hard to tell as the selections for some subjects were a bit slim. They were organized vertically across all six shelves, so there might be only one book on the top shelf, two books on the next shelf, and only one book on each of the other shelves, such as was the case with the subject Fauna. Geography wasn't much better, but History was rather extensive.

By far the largest section Anneth and Mista have run across so far is the section on Crafts since there seems to be at least 100 different crafts that are covered... from macrame to carpet weaving, from tinsmith to armor smith.

Elwood and Aaron have made it around the perimeter about half way when Tom and Mort hear a noise from beyond the closed door. At first, they can't tell what the cause of the sound is, but after a few seconds, when it becomes clear that it is getting closer, it sounds like footsteps... large, heavy footsteps.

This seems odd because the corridor wasn't large enough to accommodate any creature big enough to make such footsteps.

Re: Adventures on the Moon

Umbro, as their supposed guide--at least he got them here, kept a watch on Elwood's and Aaron's progress. When it looks like they found something, he crossed over the library to ask them what they found.

"Ah. Stairs up. Makes sense. Probably living quarters upstairs," he comments to them. "I'll inform the others."

He then headed back to tell everyone else, starting with Anneth and Mista.

"There are hidden stairs going up to what are probably living quarters. It's dark, so don't know if anyone is actually up there. I think that may have been for when the library was in use."

"Elwood and Aaron are continuing to search in case there are more stairs maybe going down."

He then heads back to the center and tells Anya, Rodrigo and Gierdon before moving to tell Tom and Mort. He reaches them about the same time as they hear the footsteps.

Re: Adventures on the Moon

Anneth can't examine all the books closely enough to definitely spot one that deals with magic, but she can make an educated guess as to which section might hold such tomes... based on the general nature of those types of books.

That way, she only has to make a cursory examination of each section of shelves to get an idea of what might be there.

Sure enough, she finds a section of books that are unusual to say the least. The first give away was the sticks... some three dozen runesticks fastened together with strips and leather and rolled up. She recalled one of her mentor's associates demonstration such a 'book'.

While she didn't think this one would have what she was looking for, it was like a beacon for the other books on the shelves. Some were quite ponderous tomes while others were almost minimalist. Anneth started with one of the in-between sizes, discovering it was apparently a book on illusion.

The next book she pulled down was a copper-bound workbook on transmutation spells. And the next one was a scarlet hide covered book on rune magic. And then she struck pay dirt.

Although not the largest book, it was quite heavy, being iron-bound with a clasp and lock. Somewhat surprisingly, the lock was not engaged. As soon as she flipped the book open, she could see diagrams of magic circles.

The images on the first few pages were rather simple looking, but they got more and more complex the further towards the back she went. It was still all beyond her current training, but she felt she might be able to recognize some of the symbols.

Re: Adventures on the Moon

Anneth finds the symbols on the floor hard to see because they are so BIG. Viewing them at an angle kind of distorts them. But, after a bit of perseverance, she finally finds a match in the book. The label under the symbol simply says 'Teleport'.

That then prompts a memory. She's seen a Teleport Circle once before--it just wasn't this big. She doesn't know anything about them other than they can teleport you somewhere.

The footsteps are getting louder for Tom and Mort. And they sound rather ponderous, as if something large is making them. Even Mort's footsteps don't sound that loud!

"Oh, good work!" Mista congratulates Anneth when she explains what she found.

"If this is a teleport circle on the floor, what does it mean that it's so large? I'm guessing it could mean that a lot of people could teleport all at once, right? Or does it mean something large can teleport?"

Glancing around the library, she sees that the ceiling doesn't seem to be high enough proportionally to accommodate any really large creature, like a giant or even a dragon. Well, maybe a dragon that wasn't so big. But then what would it do? It'd be too large to move around in here.

"My guess is that it's large so that a lot of supplies can be teleported all at once, probably up from Mystara," Anya offers.

"I'm certainly not an expert on teleporting, so maybe it takes less magic to do a large scale teleport than it does to do a lot of little ones. That's just a guess."

"Or maybe there's a greater chance of making a mistake when you do a lot of them, whereas you could just focus on the one large one and maybe reduce the chance of an error."

"How about it, Rodrigo? Does that sound right?"

Two things then seem to happen at once.

Aaron and Elwood find another hidden passage... this one goes down. It's the same set up as the other one--one section of shelving stands out away from the next one so that there's a 5-foot gap and stairs that curve downward.

Over at the door, there's a loud smash against the door. This is quickly followed by a second smashing sound against it. It's quickly evident that something large or strong is trying to breakdown the door.

Anneth is cut off mid-thought, but the smashing!  The crashing!  The bashing!

She gets on top of the table and strides to its center.  Then, if possible, she plants her sword into it -- perhaps a groove in the wood.  She unleashes the magical book she's had in her possession... "Come on..."

Opening Blessed Book... or Book of Infinite Spells... whatever we agreed to call it!  Anneth will then attempt... to cast the spell contained within.  Or, at the very least, have interesting reading material.

Re: Adventures on the Moon

The loud bashing carried throughout the library so it drew Anya in that direction... after all, she wasn't going to let the others have all the fun!

She had no idea what was causing the smashing, but it didn't sound like a creature... more like something... man-made... like a battering ram.

"Sounds like it's going to break through eventually," she comments to Aaron and Mort. "Maybe we should just open the door and deal with it now... and save the door."
