Re: House of Rain
As Kareth went outside ostensibly to relieve himself, Talis went over to the bar to see about getting a room. Just about then, another patron walks into the inn and heads straight over to the bar.
Although this new person doesn't look suspicious to Kareth and Durek, they are pretty sure he isn't a local. Slightly surprised, they've started to get the idea that this hamlet sees quite a bit of through traffic.
Kareth recons the inn, and sees the typical design. There are no security bars on the windows, though they all have shutters that can be closed for inclement weather. There is only one that has glass in it, on the first floor. There is a single door at the rear, which probably leads into the kitchen, or possibly the pantry.
Talis can't help but overhear the newcomer's words, especially since they mostly echoed his.
How much for a night's lodging?
He seems to have the typical casual interest in his surroundings.
"A night's lodging is 10 silvers," the bartender/innkeeper replies to Tom. "My name's Barton. If you're planning on staying in town long, I can make you a better long-term offer. Three days for 25 silvers, or seven days for 60 silvers."
This was the same patter Barton gave Talis.
The newcomer pays the silver for a single night as he replies.
No, a single night's lodging will be fine. Do you or the other nearby hamlets have trouble with roving bands of troublemakers? he then asked in a quiet voice.
"Troublemakers? Roving bands?" Barton answers with a mix of amusement, confusion and concern. "Oh, you must mean the hobgoblin tribe! It's a small, not more'n 30 or 40. What do they call themselves now? Ah, yes, Skullsmashers I think. Hubris is more like it."
"We think they raid some livestock now and then, but mostly stay away from attacking folks. We wouldn't put up with that!"
