Game input

Hi folks,

you ever so friendly DM here. I've opened this thread as a private OOC page to allow everyone to air views on the game, canvas for opinions etc.

Feel free to use it at anytime for any game related purpose you would like the players to know about but may not wish to comunicate in public.

Re: Game input

OK, the preamble out the way, I did have a motive for starting this thread....

I want to know your views on how the game should proceed, so I can tailor my DMing to suit:

1. Roleplaying v's hack and slash

The ToEE module is essentially a dungeon crawl of the old school which is probably why we have all been drawn to it.  This need not be the only way for the game to proceed so I would like you input on the balance between roleplaying and dungeoneering.  Is it right at the moment or would you prefer it to go more one way or the other?

2. Frequency of updates

Do you want DM updates on a more frequent basis?

3. Player posting

How long should players have to post before the DM acts? Do you want player reminders or should I post after a delay?

4. Initiative

I'm happy on the way we have been doing initiative, roll once at the begining and keep that spot (with modifiers), unless circumstance change. But we could go onto a 'first to post first to go' (or ya snooze, ya loose) which can encourage posting.  What do you think?

5. Experience

I tend to be pretty generous with xp in PBEM as the games do take time.  I give xp individually based on the following criteria... (In order of importance)

1. Roleplaying
2. Frequency/quality of IC posting
3. Goals achieved (party goals, personal goals)
4. Special one offs for particular deeds or exceptional posting

Does anyone object to this?

Fresh Blood

I've had approaches from a couple of lurkers wanting to play, I plan to retire Ronalt soon, if neither of them want to take him over, so do you guys have any preferences for character class for the newbies? I reckon at least one should be a fighter of some sort....

Re: Fresh Blood

Yeah a fighter would be good. I can swing a sword, but unfortunetly, I can't aim very well.

Re: Fresh Blood

"Ah you're all following the wrong God. You should all worship The Father of Battle, Clanggedin Silverbeard!"

Now that Arek has had his daily rant, I have to agree that another sword (or axe, spear, club, (insert dangerous item)) swinger would be helpful to keeping us all going. Even a couple of NPC spear carriers could be handy.

Re: Fresh Blood

We have the 3 support people covered as far as a rogue, cleric, and mage covered, so more fighter types up front will certainly help.  It took forever to defeat a handful of zombies!  By the way, are unearthed arcana rules in play too?  Maybe a barbarian would help us! :P

Re: Fresh Blood

Whatever.  Survival is difficult at low levels, so maybe a few more would be beneficial, especially, as Felicia pointed out, since we did so poorly in that last fight.  Of course, on the flip side, the more people we have, the fewer XPs earned per combat per person, so it's a trade-off.

Re: Fresh Blood

I think we'll be headed back to town in the near future as at least one character is in need of more powerful healing than what is available from the party. At that time, it may be an idea to hire a couple of spear carriers. Herd them to the forefront of the fighting and have them soak up the brunt of it. Then there's less shares for the XPs.
Or we could do the morally reprehensible responsible thing and just get a couple of PC Fighters/Rangers/Barbarians/Cavaliers/Paladins to come along for the ride.

Re: Fresh Blood

Let's just get back since we are not too far into a rather long module, if I can meta game for a second!

Re: Fresh Blood

"Suits me! If we hurry I might still get to catch a few fish before it gets completely dark!"

Now on to a more mundane administrative point. Some of us are carrying items we've picked up. Do we need work out exactly what or shall we simply say that between us all we managed to haul X amount of this and Y amount of that?

Re: Fresh Blood

Lemme roll for wandering monsters Hmmm.. double zero now what does it say in the module, oh yeah, Iuz... Nahh, I woudn't worry to much about listing stuff....

No lets just say you took some of everything including the cloak Felicia has got and leave it at that. You are looking more at getting some sort of a reward than selling equipment as the local store won't buy too many of any one thing and screwing his cash flow.

Re: Fresh Blood

Looks like Peter and our recruits have fallen through...

So a quick question, we could continue as is, either with Ronalt and/or gulp... Elmo the local drunk as an NPC or we could recruit.  Which do you prefer?
