Rear attack!

Facing the threat from the rear the group see five gnolls charging towards them, armed with short swords.  True to her word, Tindo lets loose a jet of fire that hits three of the monsters.  Surprisingly none drop though all are injured, the hindmost one most of all though he looks a bit larger than the others. As they close, Tindo steps back and her space is filled with Arek, trusting to his god.

The assualt crashes in. Arek swings his hammer connecting with the rightmost gnoll, his sweet hit glancing off its chain mail causing damage but not enough to drop the monster. Yesil swings wildly and unfortuately that is the effect as her blade whistles over the heads of the creatures. Finally Vestan throws his axe almost parting Arek's hair but doing no other damage.

The gnolls attack is ferocious as two of the short swords strike home, one peircing Areks's chain mail and the other impailing the plainswoman

The view just as Tindo's scorcher goes off...

[Private to Arek Blackiron: 5hps damage taken, despite the distraction you realise that these creatures lacked the strength to break open the door.]

Re: Rear attack!

Tindo was a bit surprised that none of the beasts fell, she had expected at least one or two but this was not the time to show surprise. She took a step back to let the others move in front of her, as she was moving back her hands were already in motion weaving another enchantment. This time her voice was no more then a whisper, a calm quiet song that seamed to draw in almost anybody as it echoed softly above the cacophony of battle

MECH
If the 5ft move is not the same as in 3XE then I am not doing it, if I can cast the spell like in 3E then all is as described.

Spell Cast: Sleep
Cast so as to keep the line of Yesil un effected

Re: Rear attack!

OOC: There is no 5"ft step in 1st ed - it's essentially all about common sense.

IC: Wincing only slightly at the gnoll's lucky strike, Arek's hammer swings and connects with the unfortunate creature.

"There's sumthin' else back there. Bigger, stronger. These weaklings couldn't break decent wind let alone that door!"
Not from the force he'd felt with the blow he received. Had to be something nastier hiding back in the darkness.

Re: Rear attack!

As the Gnolls charge in, the front right one is seen to still be smoldering from the scorcher, the others do not. Arek attacks the smoldering monster and the conbination of his fury and burn damage do the trick as it collapses in a heap on the ground.

Yesil hits the one facing her and it crumples its yelping gradually subsiding to silence. Vestan hears Tindo starting another spell and shouts, "Don't damage their skins!" as he launches another axe this one imbedding iteslf in the second rank gnoll facing Arek.

As Tindo's spell takes effect, the gnoll now facing Yesil rolls up its eyes and keels over fast asleep. The one that Vestan had just hit momentarily starts to secumb but manages to resist. Perhaps it's pain is too much to allow the effects to take hold. Its attack on Arek however is equally put off in its distress and goes harmlessly over the head of the dwarf.

The larger one at the back seems completely unfazed, snarling it leaps the sleeping body and launches a devastating attack on Yesil. Its shortsword skewering the plainswoman who gasps in obvious pain and visibly blanches as she tries to keep her feet. It is clear that another hit will likely drop the barbarian.

OOC: lots of natural 20's today....

ooc: typos, typos and probably not all of them..
[Private to Yesil: And I forgot this, your received 7 hps damage which in my calculation puts you down to 5....Ow!]

Re: Rear attack!

"Fight on girl!" Arek encouraged Yesil. If they had one of the swordsmen with them, Arek might have poaused in his attacks to assist her, but that was a luxury they did not have.
Instead he swung his heavy hammer but several minutes of action had caused the shaft to become slippery with sweat. Just as he was ready to smite the creature after a perfect feint, it slipped slightly in his hand leaving him with no option but to abort the attack.

Re: Rear attack!

Yesil gritted her teeth.  Was the blood she tasted her own?  Her vision narrowed: darkness haloed the beast she faced.  With a grunt she pulled herself upright and resumed her fighting stance.

And unbeknownst to her, a low song escaped her lips.  If her ancestors were calling her to their side, she'd meet them singing of the green fields of home.  Her song was punctuated with the rhythm of her sword swinging to cleave flesh from bone.

Re: Rear attack!

After the ferocious attack by the large creature Tindo is scared that the thing might kill the woman in front of her so she risks in and uses up her last remaining spell hoping it is the right one, not knowing what kind of creatures these are she risks it anyway.

As she begins the spell her voice turns honey sweet as it rolls over everybody like a warm quilt there is a name being called, its not yours but still the feeling of a pleasant place and friendliness is strong. As Tindome finishes the spell She speaks in a strange language sounding even stranger coming from her. It is made up of a series of yelps and growls with something like coughing in between, you might wonder how she manages to produce some of the sounds.
"Yi-ka Zhgg agh Yikk Quuee grahh shgah trahagg esk gamegh kernagh" [Private to GM: "Stand down o mighty friend it is me, do you not recognize a friend step back and lay down your weapon nobody doubts your might. "]

[Private to GM:OOC: IF TEXT: If I notice the spell taking effect I will yell out for them to stop their attack on him, explaining he is under my control and might be useful ]

Re: Rear attack!

Arek's attack, though slight is enough to finish off the gnoll infront of him, as Yesil deals her one more damage.  Even as to begins to retaliate Tindo's spell takes effect and the Gnoll behaves very oddly.  Instead of continuing the attack, it lays it's weapon down on the ground and mubbles, "Es ya wissh.". Tindo almost surprised as everyone else shouts out "Don't attack it, he's under my control."

The shout is just in time as Vestan moves forward to finish him off. Instead he goes to the sleeping one further down the corridor and is about to administer a coup de grace when the large Gnoll speaks again. "Don kill 'im, 'eel folla ma arders."

OOC: There are no gnolls fighting.  The large one is clearly charmed by Tindo, lucky dog and the other one alive is fast asleep. Three are dead or unconcious.

Re: Rear attack!

Assuming that the creature is more comfortable speaking in its own language and hoping to prevent any miss understandings that might acure from its lack of grasp of the common language Tindoome continues to speak in the Gnoll language Even as she dos so for the second time now the sounds and the person making them look strangely out of sink. "Wik Sherr sraa kreg grok`nn k`gren quiie" [Private to GM: "Pick up your weapon and come to me, you will protect me from now on. You are worthy of this honor."] She then speaks to the others around her. "He is now my responsibility " With that she waves the gnoll closer and turns around not wanting to see any of the sleeping ones being killed or the blood that was already on the floor or on her conscience "Grff Kn`gah higra`h" [Private to GM: "What is your name" ]

[Private to GM:
Even though the gnolls would have killed or enslaved her if she had bin subdued she could not face seeing them slaughtered do to the effects of her magic, while the fight she was ok with using fire against them it was fare. But now that they are helpless it just seams wrong to her. But for a couple of reasons she will say nothing about it now.

As for the charmed Gnoll she seas it as her duty to now be responsible for him to, she will not let him be harmed by the others and will react with outrage if anybody should suggest something like that. She would not even send him into grater danger then she might accept for any other member of the group

Just a small explanation on further motivation and acts, as well as her behavior , and to some extent mindset

Re: Rear attack!

The barbarian screams her war cry and swings her strange sword in an arc to behead the gnoll in front of her. Almost at the last second she lifts her arm and the blade smacks harmlessly into the wall sending sparks flying.

Truning round on Tindo she hisses, "What witchery is this! Only through the tests of battle do friends and foes prove their worth."

Re: Rear attack!

Vestan leans over the sleeping Gnoll his dagger in hand. Almost gently he turns its head to one side exposing its neck. Looking around he waits for the creature's fate to be decided, though he may already ahve made his mind up. "So unspoilt!" was the only comment he made.

The other gnoll answers the mage in its own gutteral tounge. [Private to Tindoome Uurraumo: It says "My name is Froo Froo Trixibell" though in common it sounds like 'Thog'.]

Re: Rear attack!

Tindoome although usually quiet passive and calm even quiet seamed to be in another kind of mood now as she was directly confronted by the planes woman.

She spoke trough her teeth almost growling out the words "Call your herb wives witch all you want barbarian but I am not one of them " She straightened her self and gave the planes woman one of those looks that only an elf can manage the kind that confers their belief that humans are lesser and below them somehow. Their was no words spoken but the message was clear.

"Trixibell " She motions to the Gnoll standing next to her "Is going to be keeping me company for now " She was not shore of the Gnolls capability to comprehend common but he did speak it and speaking all too freely of magic that effects the mind would be ill advised. "I gave my word that he will not be harmed as long as he dos not attack me I shall keep my word " She turns around and waves for the Trixibell the gnoll to follow, ending any further discussion and leaving the work of slaying the defenseless to those who liked it, she was going to go have a look how the battle proceeded on the other front, hoping it went as good as for them

Re: Rear attack!

Yesil's lip curled and she seethed.  This thing had put blade to her flesh, and now the elf consorted with it?

"You take your life in your own hands," she said.  "Know I will not save you from it."  Yesil laid her blade across her guard arm, standing with her arms crossed.

"Words are nothing to animals.  All they want is blood, and this one will spill yours."

"Yesil," Arek growled. "Come 'ere, sit down an' shut yer trap. I need ta look at that wound."
"Boy!"
the word exploded from his mouth. "Go help thar others. Tindo, you too wi' yer friend."
As Yesil did as she was told (presuming she did otherwise he grasped her arm and dragged), he leant to whisper into her ear.
[Private to Yesil: "Don't you say another word girl! You'll stuff ev'thing Tindo's done and git somebody killed! Magics at work, easy broke..."]

Sitting grudgingly by the dwarf Yesil snarled back, her voice low, "That is the problem!"  She glanced at Tindo with anger then turned back to the dwarf, speaking more quietly.

[Private to Arek Blackiron: "This is foul.  This magic should not be tolerated."]

Re: Rear attack!

Seeing that none was bothered about the sleeping gnoll, Vestan quickly dispossed of it in a way that resulted in little damage to it's hide. "Should fetch a pretty penny..." he muttered, looking darkly at the dwarven priest he gets up to follow Tindo and her pet.
