Out of the darkness

Tindo staggers back into the corridor leaving Arek and Yesil behind in the darkness.

To the south Drake and Felicia are engage in mortal combat with the priest while a Tindo's gnoll stands behind him not involved. As they watch the priest starts another spell.  The priest's guard down Drake launches a desparate attack. His longsword skewing the priest who screams in pain and rage.

To the south is the sounds of others racing towards the party, the bellows sounding like something big. As they strain to hear and see what is coming, the priest slowly slides to the ground.

Behind them the darkness lifts and the corridor is back lit from the remnant of the fires in the main room.

Re: Out of the darkness

Drake, still keyed up from the fight, takes several large deep breaths while in his fighting stance, trying hard not to launch himself at the gnoll.  Since the gnoll apparently is under Tindoome's control, he shuffles back a few steps and straightens up.  "Interesting pet you've picked up there, Uurraumo.  Can you teach him to not soil the carpets?"

Drake edges around the gnoll and turns the dead priest over with his toe.  He systematically starts looking through the elf's possessions for papers or anything related to the temple - and also incidentally, thoroughly looting the body.

As Drake starts to bend down to search the bodies he is aware of the sounds of the enemy getting very near. Looking round he is startled to see and Ogre almost on top of him. As he readies him self the ogre swings its might club, the blow wide of the mark to his relief.

Behind the first ogre, another enters the room yelling a fearsome war cry. The gnoll looks confused but it does not seem it is the target for attack. Behind the ogres humans can be seen and strange midget elf. The humans look like fighter types and show much more battle sense than the ogres as they fan into the room, one hangs back with the elf, perhaps a rear guard.

[Private to Drake:Drake realizes the priest is not dead but unconscious.]

[Private to Felicia Florette: The elf looks familiar to Felicia possibly the one they fought last time here though much smaller for some strange reason. ]

Drake recovers his poise and swings his longsword at the ogre attacking him, the blade whistling through the air as he misses badly.

The gnoll reacting to Tindo's instructions tries to skewer it with his short sword but again goes wide.

Behind Felicia, Arek and Yesil approach, the old dwarf saying "Wha's goin' on here then lads?"

"Lads?"  Yesil's tone was mock-offended, despite the barbarian's thick accent and the wide grin that spread across her face.  She hesitated not a moment before circling her sword overhead and leaping into the fray.

[Private to DM:

Unsure of whether Yesil gets an attack, or just what the creature's AC is, or what her THAC0 is :)

I rolled a 13 to hit, which hits AC 7 by standard rules, or AC 6 by the 5% option for fighter-types.  If that's a hit, she rolled a 7 damage, and gets a +1 bonus on that.

Things start to happen fast. The second ogre attacks the gnoll but misses badly it's club splintering under its masive strength. The first ogre also misses then seems to grow faint and gradually it disappears.

Drake camly walks past the second ogre and the two humans both of whom attack him and inflict serious damage. Drake groans and slides to the floor his sword held infront of him almost like a peace offering.

Yesil charges and attacks the ogre as does Vestan. The halfling faring better than his human ally and hits the ogre inflicting a painful wound causing the ogre to bellow in pain. As it faces this new threat, the gnoll attacks its short sword piercing the ogres tough skin.

The two humans that hit Drake, attack one hiting the gnoll bringing it close to death, the other missing Vestan.

Ronalt and Markus round the corner and close on the fray.  They are preceded by a bugbear however who charges past Vestan and the human facing him snarling "Diaman! Yer mine!"

Seeing the cacophony of battle unfold Tindoome looks one why and then the other uncertain what to do, and without so much as a single spell she dos not have much options, then she spots the armor less man. She did not know much about fighting but somebody wading into a battle without armor usually meant he had spells to him She took another dagger aimed carefully and threw

Re: Out of the darkness

"Does this e'er end?" Arek implored with his eyes rolling skyward.
The Father of Battle was surely testing his worth as yet another skirmish confronted the old dwarf. If this continued he'd soon have spent more time in battle over a few short days than the preceding two centuries or more combined!
Tired hands grasped his hammer firmly as he moved forward to join "the boy" in fighting the human.
Drake would have to hold on for a few moments longer but did the stupid man really deserve to live after his foolishness? Surely he knew he'd be cut down before reaching his goal...
[Private to GM: To hit 11 - bound to be a miss]
"Hold tha' lamp girl!" he ordered as Tinoome released her dagger. Weaponless and drained of magical energy, it was perhaps the best use she could put herself to.

A feeling of justice wells through the ranger as he sees the priest fallen.

He moves forward to join the melee so to be betwwen the wall and Vestan. Trying to remove the human fighter quickly so Drake can be dragged back to safety.
Swinging his longsword in haste, it sparks off the wall as it misses the fighter attacking Vestan.

Re: Out of the darkness

close up of the action (apologies to Tindo and Felicia)

The action is think and furious. Tindo's dagger flies from her fingers, straight down and almost impales her foot to the floor. Arek charges in, his blow ineffectual as the ogre strikes back. Instructed by the diminutive mage it targets Vestan using it's great fist knocking the halfling off his feet and stunning him.

The fighter next to the ogre misses Vestan as he goes down. Ronalt changes plan as he sees how congested the fight is becoming. Joining Markus just as he deals a tremendous blow that fells the human warrior who collapses on the ground. Yesil again attacks the ogre, her blow going wide.

Beyond the fight, Drakes body continues to ooze blood, he needs attention if he is to survive. Even further away, the bugbear closes the mage who is in the midst of casting another's spell. It seems the spellcaster will succeed in getting off his magics before the monster can attack when suddenly the elf's face contorts in pain and the point of a longsword appears though his breastbone. The warrior with the elf seemly switching allegiance and attacking him. The bugbear does not hesitate and he to deals the magic user a wicked blow. Somehow the elf remains on his feet though his magic is ruined.

From further down the corridor comes the sound of running as three more human warriors appear.  The leading one some sort of leader.

The whole scene. The fighter facing Markus is dead. Vestan is down and out for the count.

Re: Out of the darkness

The magic user takes out a potion and tries to drink it.  As he does so the bugbear and the fighter attack again.  Despite the easy target he offers, both miss badly. Before everyone's eyes, the mage dissolves in a a cloud of gas that drifts towards the stairs and away from the fight.

The new arrivals quickly close on the fight and both the attackers of the mage join them in the fray.  The bugbear seemly switching allegiances once again. The leader shouts With me, lads!  Lubash, they've hurt Diaminthe!  Kill them!

Tindo throws a dagger at the ogre which bounces off its thick hide. The ogre attacks the barbarian woman but again his attack is poor and it misses her. She along with Ronalt and Markus attack the ogre in turn and although the ranger misses, the other two connect causing horrendous wounds. The monster screams in pain its blood spraying about the room. Thrashing mindlessly it trips over the body of Lareth and falls to the floor dead. The unconscious priest totally unaware, his blood continues to ooze, joined by the darker blood of the ogre. The gnoll just managing to dodge out of the way of the falling ogre makes a poor attack, its short sword striking sparks on the stone.

Behind the crumbling front line the new arrivals stream into the room to reinforce the breach. The backstabbing warrior goes for Markus and draws blood, while the bugbear attacks Ronalt. A half-orc moves to occupy the space the ogre left with another human warrior just behind him.

Almost unnoticed, Arek and the human fighter continue to duel. Arek misses his attack but the human connects, his longsword drawing blood from a cruel looking wound. Rescue of Drake if anything looks further away than it began.

The remaining voice of authority remains to the rear calmly directing the action.
