As Arek and his chosen few filed past, Brother Yew abandoned his searching and joined the procession.

Iviana shrugs, stuffing the scrollcase into her pack with the arm Arek isn't holding.  She gives Gwythe a shrug, letting Arek pull her out of the room.

Re: On to the temple...

The party trooped back into the hallways towards the room they originally entered.  It was clear that Ronalt was not joking, the blood was oozing past the seams of the blocked door. It would appear that given enough time it would fill all the rooms.

OOC: non-updated map.....

Yew thought for a moment then replied, "I think that bed would be long enough to span across the pit. If not, at least it will make for a soft landing. Will someone assist me to bring it, please?"

He hurried back to the bedroom to fetch the bed.

Re: On to the temple...

Iviana rocks up onto her tiptoes, and is therefor only slapped on the back.

Looking down at Arek, she shakes her head.  "The `heart thing' was important," she insists.  "I confess I don't know why yet, but... it was.  I've felt Lydia's light since we left the cave.  I don't struggle when you draw me towards," she gestures across the pit, "A spiked pit, or even the design beyond, even without explanation.  But when you do not see the purpose to my actions, you pull me away.  It seems clear then that it is not trust that I need earn back, but still to earn at all," she replies, with a hint of admonishment in her own tone.

Re: On to the temple...

The bed is soon retrieved but doesn't prove to be completely suitable. The frame is solid hardwood, however the rotten straw matress rests on rope netting nearly as rotten.
At only about 7 feet long, it's also a little shorter than the 10 foot gap.

Re: On to the temple...

"What about one of the doors? it must be close to at least half the width of the pit. If we weight down the second half of the door, folk should be able to jump the remaining few feet."
"It is this or someone drives a few pitons in each side wall. We then string a rope across using it as a sling to hold the door so folk can cross. It is crude but it should do the trick."
Ronalt offers suggestions.

Re: On to the temple...

"What about we just smash the table so the planks that form the top break apart, then smash the bed and rope together the long side planks to the 6 foot long table planks.  We'd then have two 13 foot long planks we can simply lay across the pit.  If we place them to one side we could use the wall as balance and just walk across." Tindo suggests since she had already helped carry the bed down the hall.

Yew bows respectfully and heads off to fetch the table.

OOC: A warbrobe on top of the table would just about be high enough to support the bedframe planks at the middle of the pit. If all else fails we will eventually fill the hole with furniture!  ;o)

Re: On to the temple...

The bed comes apart quite quickly, obviously intended to be dismantled from time to time to aid in moving it from place to place. The side members at a good two and a half inches wide and one thick look to be strong enough to hold several people at once, if only they were long enough.
A length or rope is pulled from a pack (there's several to choose from) and knots tied to hold the creation together. Although rickety, and the knots loosening with even passing moment, the entire party (unless I hear otherwise) manages with some trepidation to cross the spike filled chasm.
In the round chamber, the pentagram appeared to have come to life. Up close the blood red pentagrams seemed to writhe and twist with a life of their own, faintly glowing since the blood in the chapel had begun to flow.

Re: On to the temple...

Once across Arek positioned everyone around the walls of the circular chamber.
"Now, Iviana is tha key 'ere. She made tha sacrifice, she kin open tha portal."
"This be a one way trip. Make sure ya go' everyt'ing ya want cuz tha's no commin' back."

Standing in an ancient evil temple, looking at a blood red pentagram didn't really instil confidence that what Arek was proposing was the right way to go. Arek himself wasn't too sure, let alone comfortable with it, and would happily listen to alternatives.
"Iviana 'as to stan' in the middle wi' everyone close 'roun' 'er. She then t'inks o' a place she wan's ta be."
"T'ere be no guarantee this'll work though. Meant ta be used by evil. Could ta' us somewhere....else..."

His ominous warning hung in the air as a shiver ran down even the stoic old Dwarf's back. "Elsewhere" might just mean to, and perhaps even past, the very gates of hell itself.

Re: On to the temple...

Brother Yew looked somewhat less calm and collected than he usually did but he bowed to the elderly priest's wisdom and stepped across the blood-marked lines of the pentagram to take up a position only a few feet from the centre. He held his halberd defensively, facing out from the centre and nodded to Iviana.

"Anywhere Iviana t'inks about."
Arek made sure that Iviana stayed out of the pentagram until they'd fully discussed the issue. A single stray thought while she was inside could activate it sending half the party to who knew where and the other half stranded and doomed to drown in blood.

Re: On to the temple...

Iviana, not being stupid, doesn't actually require being kept out of the pentagram, and waits along the wall until everybody else has taken their suggested places.  Then she waits a little bit longer, in case anybody wants to say something like, `I think we should go to...!'

When the former has happened and the latter appears not to be, she takes a deep breath, and then steps into the center, curling her fingers around her holy symbol and closing her eyes.
