Re: Through the portal

Gwythe appears briefly in the doorway, still covered in drying blood. He raises an eyebrow at Arek and Iviana, but doesn't comment, simply scratching at his arms, trying to clear away some of the mess.

Tindo comments from where she lies with her eyes closed, "Arek has said something understandable for a change, and I agree.  I'm not so sure this is a real shrine.  Iviana does this room even remotely match up with what you were thinking of when you joined us in pentagram?  This could be anywhere, and since we still appear to be trapped, it probably is a trap."  She makes no move to open her eyes or sit up, instead lapsing back into silence.

Re: Through the portal

"Oh no, Mistress Tindoome, we are not trapped in here," Yew hastened to explain. "We can easily open the door from this side and leave this shrine. The difficulty would be in finding the door again and opening it from the other side. When we leave we probably cannot come back in again."

With that done he unpacks his waterskin and hands it to Gwythe.

Re: Through the portal

"Come Brother we're just splitting hairs.  That's still a trap since we don't have the freedom to chose to return.  We are trapped by the choices we're allowed to make.  It would seem when we make the choice to move forward, the choice to retreat is taken from us.  I need to be ready for this as best I can."  She adjusts herself on the floor and falls silent.

Re: Through the portal

"I wasn't picturing anything," Iviana replies, matter-of-factly.  "I wanted to go where Lydia wanted us.  Evidently, that involves Prince Thromel.  I don't think it involves annoying Pholtus, specifically.  I'll grant that that seems like just as valid an interpretation based on where we ended up - the wall hangings are certainly closer - but based on what I know about the deities in question, I very much doubt that's our purpose here."

"Just because it's an old shrine doesn't mean it isn't real.  What's twenty years to a god?"

Kalador shrugged his shoulders and proceeded to take down the hangings. They'd faced worse than this Pholtus character.

"Ma'e up a coupl'a beds fer the ladies, lad," Arek instructed Kalador as he shrugged off his pack and attemped to make himself comfortable in the corner across from the corridor.
A few minutes passed as he tried to rest.
"Som'tin wron' 'ere."
"Ronalt, Yew, come 'ere a mo'ent. Brin' tha glowin' chair leg wi' yer."

The indicated object lay on the ground near where Gwythe was washing off.
He struggled to his feet, leaning heavily on his staff sling.
"Ta' a look dow' there. Right at tha floor were i' meet tha wall. Is tha' a gap lettin' a draft through?"

Re: Through the portal

Gwythe takes the waterskin and drinks for a couple of seconds, and then disappears into the corridor again to wash off some of the blood in privacy. After a couple of minutes he'll return with the waterbag half full, and the worst of the blood washed off his person.

Iviana's weasel wriggles out of her pack and scurries towards the spot in question, sniffing at it curiously.

"Not for me, thanks," Iviana says, as Arek directs Kalador to make the beds, watching her familiar.

Memento moved to the corner that Ronalt and Arek were inspecting. It's nose a whiskers twitched as it scented the air closing on the suspect area.  Suddenly is gave out a squeal of terror and bolted back to Iviana and dived into her back pack.

Kalador said, "I believe I have a candle Arek." He reached into his backpack and pulled out a wax candle. Kalador then handed it to Arek. He said, "Here you go."

Yew reaches into his backpack and pulls out a tinderbox. He quickly sets about creating a flame to light the candle.

Re: Through the portal

The flame flickers when it's held down low, and although the air is barely moving, the test proves Arek correct - there is indeed a gap between wall and floor.

Brother Yew kneels down so he can listen at the gap. He gently sniffs the air while he is there, trying to identify whatever spooked Memento.

Kalador awaits Brother Yew's assessment of what might be under the door. He didn't care for Arek's comment. Why should he light the stupid candle? Arek wanted it, he should have lit it, not Brother Yew. Well Arek, it'll be a long while to I let you have something of mine thought Kalador.

Iviana looks somewhat startled when Memento comes rushing back, and twists herself around to reach back to her backpack and pet the ferret's head, murmuring softly to it for a bit.  "Whatever Memento scented, she's terrified," she comments.  "I'm not sure how well I can rest here, what with one thing and another."

"Nothing," Yew reported briefly.

"Could it be a secret door?" he asked the party's resident wise old dwarf.

He started searching the wall more closely to try to find out.

Re: Through the portal

Brother Yew began his search and was immediately rewarded! A secret door was in the wall where the wall hanging had been.  Continuing his search, he realised that the sconce in the adjacent wall had something to do with opening it.
