Moving through the door, the three find themselves in a short passageway with another door at the end. With a glance over your shoulders, and a little encouraging wave from the troll (who's remaining in their own room) the far door is opened.

Something has taken considerable pains to decorate this 20 by 20 disused storeroom. The walls are covered with a plastering of excrement and bones, to form both patterns and shelf-like bone ledges. Skulls leer from these shelves — human, humanoid, dwarven, and various sorts of other creatures as well. The floor is a conglomerate of bones and ordure. A large armchair and crude table of sorts, each fashioned from bones, stand in the northwest corner. In the southwest corner is another door, almost diagonally across from the one you enter. In the southeast corner is a heap of torn cloth, leather scraps, bits of tapestries, and pieces of rugs.
Suddenly the pile moves, and something rises — a huge troll!

Brother Yew bows formally toward the troll, then rises again to address him directly.

"Oohlgrist?" he asks. "Do you speak the common tongue of humans? [Language unknown: Tr undoulardday n ionro man ntanriinek ichev Iv ere llinevom rom strrestio laramesan meous.]"

Now the huge troll was standing it was clear just how powerfully built they were. As if that weren't enough, it's tough hide was covered in bones all sewn together to make a ghastly but effective armoured coat.

Yew shook his head.

"I am sorry, I do not know that language. Let us try some others, unless Kalador or Gwythe understands that one?. Gwythe is somewhat startled at the sudden appearance and size of the troll, and takes a step back before catching himself. He listens to Yew's attempts to converse with the creature without showing any signs of understanding, his hand hovering near his blade.

Kalador stood looking at the troll. Its armor coat was interesting. He said, "If it speaks Orc, I can translate."

Oohlgrist rubbed his bloated belly and pointed at Kalador.

"We need that other troll to translate for us," Yew decided.

He tried to convey this to Oohlgrist by a short series of gestures - pointing down the corridor they had come from, then holding a hand high above his head to indicate someone much taller, then opening his mouth as if speaking. He tapped his own chest, pointed down the corridor again and made a beckoning sign.

"Wait here," he told Kalador and Gwythe as he quickly strode back to the doorway to fetch the other troll. "If you have any food or anything else to offer Oohlgrist it might help."

[Language unknown: "EN! Ere TER!!!"] they declared angrily, moving to block Yew.

Yew stopped and confronted the enormous ogre. He held up the eight-pointed fire symbol authoritatively, then tapped his own chest and pointed back down the corridor again. He raised his hand high above his head again, then pretended to beckon that tall person to follow him back again then mimed taking to that tall person and the tall person talking to Oohlgrist.

Despite the futility of it he added a verbal explanation as well.

"I go get other troll. I bring him here so he can tell you what I say."

When Oohlgrist made his  threatening move towards Yew, Kalador put his hand on the hilt of his sword.[Private to group Thieves' Cant: Calm down. I can translate for you]
Kalador said, "Brother Yew he's speaking in thieves cant. I can translate for us. I thought this one would be cooperative, but I guess not."

Oohlgrist ceased his threatening movement towards Yew (but still effectively blocked the door) and grinned, foul spittle spraying from between his yellowed teeth.

Yew glanced sharply at Kalador then nodded.

"I am relieved that one of us is able to speak with him. Please tell him the fire priest Alrrem sent us to ask him to help us with some important tasks he wants us to do together. To weaken the Earth Temple and Water Temple and make the Fire Temple stronger. What reward does he want in return for assisting us?"

Kalador replied, "He wants to eat me first. I think I'll deny him that." Looking at the troll he said, "

"Good choice," Yew agreed. "Unless you are offering him one of us instead."

Said with an almost perfectly straight face. Almost.

Kalador looked back with a raised eyebrow and a slight grin. He said, "You never know Brother Yew, I just might."

Oohgrist paused in thought.

He pointed in turn at a ring on the little finger of his left hand, his necklace of gold with four small rubies, and jewelled belt (silver with four nice emeralds).

Kalador looked and nodded at the items the troll showed. He said, "Brother Yew, he wants to know what we have to trade. He also says that it should be better than the things he just showed us. What should I tell him?"

Yew thought for a moment before responding.

"Do you remember that pair of rose gold candelabras we found downstairs in the scarlet room? (OOC: msg #862 and #894 in 'Through the portal' thread) Each designed to hold 13 candles and about this big." Yew indicated the size by holding his hands a couple of feet apart. "They were too bulky for us to want to carry all through this place but they would make very impressive trophy racks for our troll-king here. They must be worth thousands of gold coins too, which should please him. We would need to go back downstairs to fetch them, so if he can show us another way out that bypasses the Fire Temple he would be able to have both instead of maybe having to share them with Alrrem."

Kalador replied, "Yes I remember them. Let's see if these items are good enough for him." Looking back at the troll, he said, "[Language unknown: Pr andec yinoulout icavirven ith rist int oustr whrereonnc. Wh eau con p iefien rea olvor meon intwering. OOC: Note that each one weighs about 60 lbs each and will take more than one person to carry unless you want to risk damage...

Kalador rolled his eyes at the singing and dance part. He replied, "Brother Yew, he wants you to go get the candelabras, while Gwythe and I dance and sing...to make him happy." Kalador wanted to make himself happy by running the troll through.

"They are too heavy for me to carry. Try to persuade him to let you both go with me, or at least one of you."

OOC: If Oohlgrist can't be persuaded then Yew will go and do as asked.

Kalador nodded and turned to Brother Yew. He said, "He said no due to our friends being out there. I imagine he's worried we might just attack him or something."

NPC'd
"Ok, so what do you two think we should do?"

Kalador replied, "I'd say we run him through and move on. I darn well don't want to dance for him and I don't think Gwythe does either." He smiled at Brother Yew to let him know he was kidding about running the troll through. While pleasant to think about, it wasn't a viable option.

Gwythe grunts in frustration. "Tell him he Yew will take him to where the treasure is. That brute of a creature can clearly carry more than the three of us put together. We can wait here, or go with him, and he can even bring his friend if he wants."

Kalador nodded and said, "That isn't a bad idea. What do you think Brother Yew? Should I tell him to go get the things himself and we'll wait here or go with him?"

Yew Shrugged.
"Can't hurt to suggest it I suppose..."

Oohlgrist convulsed, a deep, grating noise escaped from his mouth (somewhat like boulders tumbling down a steep cliff, smashing and tearing everything in it's path) as putrid spittle flew across the room.

Kalador wiped some of the spittle off of him. He looked at Yew and said, "He thinks I'm joking and wants to keep me cause I tell good jokes. Any suggestions Brother?"

"I think we do whatever you and Gwythe think is wisest."
[Private to Gwythe; Kalador: Remember Yew is AFK at the moment, so it's up to you two to come up with a solution.]

Kalador looked at Gwythe and said, "Well, what do you think? I'm open to suggestions."

"ENOUGH TALK!" Oohlgrist boomed in the common tongue, revealing he had understood each and every word spoken in the room (including the "jokes" about killing him).
"You go now!" he ordered, forcefully pointing at Brother Yew and then the doorway.
"You two stay!"

Kalador looked at the troll and gave a slight smirk. He said, "Well now, you do understand us after all. What would you do if just Gwythe there stayed and I went to help the Brother?'

Oohlgrist growled angrily, his patience clearly very close to exhausted.

Kalador looked at Brother Yew and said, "Brother Yew, it looks as though you'd better leave now. Maybe one of our friends can help you." Looking at the troll, he smiled and said, "So, did you hear the one about the orc who walked into a bar with a bird on his shoulder."

Gwythe takes a couple of steps back as the troll yells at them, his hand straying to his weapon again, glancing at the exit.

"I told you this was a bad idea" he mutters to no one in particular.

Brother Yew nodded respectfully toward his two companions.

"I will return as swiftly as possible," he replied.

Then he left to fetch the candelabras.
