Re: OOC MK V

FYI, little access to net in October, mostly from phone. Please Mr DM, could you make any necessary rolls for me? Thx!

Not very hopeful, she checked over the bodies, wondering if any of them were still alive.

Now you're just being mean!
Making me keep track of unconscious and dying NPCs!!!

Re: OOC MK V

Warning!

Luthien has 1 HP left.

That really annoying low health sounds from the legend of Zelda goes beeping in everyone's heads. :P

Speaking of which, what is the 'withdraw with honor' rule in your game? I'm BADLY outnumbered in HD, after all...

Re: OOC MK V

Yup low HP are a pain.
Ronalt is also one decent strike and he will be unconscious.
Hopefully the healers will move into the second rank soon.

Re: OOC MK V

In reply to Luthien (msg # 7):

Lots of options, of course:
  • Say to the person behind you, "Would you mind holding my place for me while I visit the healer. I'll be right back."
  • Say to the person behind you, "Oh, I'm sorry, I've been hogging this spot in the front line, haven't I? Would you like to have a turn? Don't slip on all that blood under my feet though. Sorry, a lot of it is mine."
  • Or there is always the old favourite ... Scream like a girl and run away.  ;o)

In reply to Ronalt de Gault (msg # 8):

Can I have my crossbow bolt back, please?

Re: OOC MK V

There is indeed a rule. From 2nd Ed, I'm not sure if it exists in 1st Ed.

But the 2E rule is you can withdraw with honor if your HD is outnumbered 2:1. If you're elite, it has to be 3:1.

Re: OOC MK V

I think certain death is judgeable on a case by case basis and Thrommel wouldn't hold it against you if you took Yew's 2nd suggested option, much as I'd laugh to see the third...

Re: OOC MK V

In reply to Brother Yew (msg # 13):

Don't forget there's a couple of bodies laying there too, slowly expiring.

All in all, I think Luthien has upheld his honour so far. Withdrawing in good order to obtain healing is certainly allowable in the current situation, what with plenty of reinforcements available to fill his spot.

If on the other hand there was nobody available, he'd be honour bound to stay in the line until he dropped.

Remember that IRL knights of the middle ages and renaissance periods rarely spent more than a few minutes at a time at the front - the strain of carrying around all that armour and weaponry required a rest every so often. Also, most of the time they were (supposed to be) mounted and acting as cavalry, charging in to smash the enemy line before withdrawing, reorganising, and charging again. Of course there were plenty of instances where this wasn't actually the case, but in theory at least.....

Re: OOC MK V

A post from Luthien (go on, dive back into the meat grinder, you know you want to!) and Celonor and we're up for another update.
Note Arek is out of healing spells (besides a temporary Aid), Iviana is otherwise occupied, and the Prince has only limited healing abilities (one cure light, and his lay on hands), so getting hurt/killed is probably not the best of ideas.

Re: OOC MK V

It's a big room, and you have a crossbow. It would be hard for me not to...

I doubt if any are still alive: If they were after the fireball, the burning web will of done for them. But *shrug*... it's hard to be callous and just ignore them.

Re: OOC MK V

Right. And staying out the fray gives archers a better line of fire, and lets Luthien do something compassionate and probably more productive then hoping for a nat 20 on attack rolls :P

The way he's been going, he probably needs a nat 20 to trip over his own shoe laces! ;)

Re: OOC MK V

You haven't been rolling BADLY for me. You've been rolling double digits, a lot of the time. But it doesn't help when I need 20s.

But hey, if you're tired of watching me miss, give out XP :P

The dice gods were in the PCs favour this round!
There was the potential for at least two PCs to go down, but instead, nobody got a scratch.

Awww ... you mean we still gotta share XP among this huge crowd of PCs and NPCs? No strategic thinning out of their numbers?  ;o)
