OOC MK VI

The oldest game I know of here that is still active is Legends of Old Urthe. It was an AD&D2e game when I joined it in October 2001 but converted to D&D3.5 later on. It has gi=6 meaning it was the sixth game created on RPoL and I believe it was running on another website before Jase created RPoL.

Actually, checking back through those early posts, Skald mentioned in one of his posts back when I joined in 2001 that his first adventure set in his Urthe campaign (when he ran it live) was "about 17 years ago" at that time, so what's that now, about 32 years ago?

That's going to take some beating.  :o)

I don't know how to search by gi to see whether any of the first five games are still running. Ah, yes I do!

gi=1 is RPoL Announcements
gi=2 is Heaven - Gaming Resources
gi=3 is Wanted - GMs
gi=4 is Wanted - Players
game ID "5" no longer exists.

So there's your answer!  :o)

Looking back at the map of the crypt this tunnel heads south about 35ft from our 'front line' defensive position, then swings southwest for about 20ft around the 'nest' then heads west. When Kalador moves out of sight Wonnilon will follow after him to the appropriate bend so he can keep an eye on Kalador.

That may change if others decide to go with Kalador.

Given even the low intelligence Ghouls are described as possessing a "terrible cunning", using speech such as in this case seems almost logical doesn't it? :P

Re: OOC MK VI

What Arek said for those who are interested.
quote:
"Clanggedin, I call upon your benevolence to heal this most unworthy halfbreed of a utterly hateful race."
Power filled Arek, surging though him with the force of an avalanche before trickling through his fingers. A slight odour of ozone could barely be detected as a few small sparks of electricity crossed over to Kalador.
"Oh come on!" Arek called to the ceiling in disgust.
"Is that it? Is that really all you're going to give? He fought, and nearly died to protect Amathaon and I, and you're just going to tickle him?"
Talking back to one's god didn't usually go down very well for most people, especially those of the priesthood. In this case though Areks admonishments seemed to have a positive effect as energy began flowing again to Kalador in a slightly greater amount than before.
"Now that's more like it!"

First spell was Cure Serious Wounds which healed almost the minimum possible. The second was Cure Light Wounds which actually had a greater effect than the first!

Amathaon Chalkbreaker:
"What if we set a trap in the tunnel?" Amathaon whispered a suggestion.
"It was hit and wounded a few times wasn't it? Must be nearly spent."

What are the AD&D 1e rules on how to set a trap? Does a thief (or a number of thieves working together) use their Find/Remove Traps skill to do that?

Re: OOC MK VI

This could get fun.
Dungeoneers Survival Guide page 20:
The Tight Squeeze
Tunnel ceilings that are lower than the height of the characters walking through them can penalize a party’s movement and combat capabilities. However, since the heights of individuals within a party may vary widely, the effects of the following conditions will also vary from one party member to the next.
If the ceiling is lower than a character’s height, but at least 2/3 of his height, he can walk upright at 2/3 of his normal movement rate. The character suffers no adverse combat effects.
Characters must travel on hands and knees through any tunnel that is less than 2/3 their height. Of course, this means that occasionally humans will be grunting painfully along on all fours while their halfling, and perhaps dwarven, companions trot along with no more precautions than an occasional ducking of their heads. In a tunnel whose diameter is 1/4 or less of the character’s height, the character must actually slither along in a prone position. See the limits below for the minimum heights and widths of tunnel that can accommodate characters of different races.
A character travelling on hands and knees moves at 1/2 his normal movement rate. If he should be so unfortunate as to engage in combat while in this awkward position, he suffers a -5 penalty to all of his attack rolls. He also loses all Dexterity and shield bonuses to AC. Additionally, weapons such as longbows, broadswords, and battleaxes cannot be employed in these close quarters. Note the “Space Required” listing on the Weapons Tables for AD&D rules; this gives a clear indication of what weapons can and cannot be employed in a narrow tunnel.
A character who is prone because of a low ceiling suffers even more serious penalties to his chance in combat. Of course, the space required limits his choice of weapons even further. In addition, the character suffers a -8 modifier to all of his attack rolls, and can gain no Armour Class benefits from a shield or a Dexterity bonus. When moving, the character is limited to 1/4 of his normal rate of movement.

Photobucket changed their hotlinking rules recently so most of the images/maps can't be seen at the moment. As I spot a problem I'll fix it (move the image to imgur and link to that instead), but if there's something you want to see before I can fix it, let me know.
I've just fixed the moathouse maps thread link to a message in this game and will do the other obvious ones as time allows. Will probably never get to those buried deep within game threads though unless somebody points them out for me.

Re: OOC MK VI

I think I owe everyone an explanation of my absence.
Well, currently I'm going through a relationship break down which at times has been not just stressful, but also violent and abusive. What's worse is this is the second relationship which has gone down this path (first one ended around 2006 and I'm still dealing with the fallout).
So far this one hasn't been as bad as the first, but it has been very, very difficult to do much more than the necessary basics of living and looking after my children.

I have NOT abandoned the game. I WILL be back to posting as soon as I can manage it.
For those of you who are still around, patiently waiting, I can't thank you enough.
