Aradhel likewise assisted.  "He is massive."  She had no idea what to do however.

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
Not finding a way through, Cyrus made his way around. Upon seeing Martak down, he immediately came forward and attempted to heal the wound and ascertain what else was wrong.

18:21, Today: Cyrus Weaver rolled 5,4 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,4.  Healing Check.

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause

Hywel's joy at seeing the witch succumb to the work of Aradhel and Odin quickly turned to fear as Martak was attacked.  He rushed in as the others, pushing the body of the witch away with the butt of his spear. Hearing Cyrus' limping approach, he cleared the path for the man who could actually be a help, "Damnable woman...  What did she do?  It looked like she bit him...  Well Cyrus? Hmm? How is he?"  Not that Cyrus had had time to figure out any of these answers, but Hywel felt helpless.

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
Cyrus takes a minute and, using some herbs he happens to be carrying with him, draws poison out of the otherwise light flesh wound.

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
Cyrus leaned back with a defeated sigh. "He'll live, but that poison will have him knocked out for a few days. What a spiteful bitch." He pulled himself up with his walking staff. "Lets get him out of this hallway, finish searching the place, and then get him--and ourselves--home."

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
Aradhel handed off her sword to someone. Carefully she grabbed Martak from behind and slowly slid him up using a wall as a stop block.  Once he was more vertical she folded him over her shoulders and grunted.

Fireman's carry .  With a D8 Strength she can probably just barely move him but forget any combat.

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
Hywel nodded to Cyrus and moved out of Aradhel's way as she hefted the big lug, "Glad to hear it." The dwarf turned then to the newcomer, "Right.  You're with me.  Let's finish the search while they start getting him out.  I want to know more about what these cultists and greenskins are up to..."

Need Notice rolls boss, or just let you narrate it?

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
The party makes Martak comfortable, confident that he’ll survive until they get him back into town. They quickly explore the rest of the complex:

D2:Dozens of ratty cushions, lumpy pillows, and rumpled dogskin furs lie heaped in the south half of this chamber, which smells of a nauseating mixture of vinegar and rotten flowers. It clearly was the room of some of the goblins; you conclude it must have been the goblin females you slew earlier, as their “musk” resembles this odor.

D3:The walls of this room are lined with small wooden cages. Inside each cage is a dirty mound of straw.

D4a:This room is clean and well-organized. A low dresser to the southwest has a stack of papers sitting atop it, weighted down by a large chunk of obsidian, while to the northwest sits a well-made bed. The notes on the nightstand are mostly rough drafts of Tsuto’s plans to blackmail his father and to use the Sandpoint Glassworks as a staging ground for the coming investigation of the Catacombs of Wrath—nothing new, in other words.

D4b:This one-person bedroom shows many signs of having been lived in. The bed itself is rumpled and unmade, and a half-eaten meal of bread and smoked salmon sits on the nightstand. A few articles of dirty clothing sit at the foot of the bed.

D4c:While this bedroom is clean and brightly lit by an everburning torch lying on the nightstand, the room’s spartan decor makes it unclear if it’s actually lived in. Cyrus surmises this must be his new girlfriend’s room.

D4d:This bedroom has a faint, musty odor. The bed is covered with matted gray and black hair, and bloodstains mar the stone floor, while a morbid stack of birds’ feet lies heaped on the floor by the side of the bed.

D5:This large chamber seems to serve a dual purpose. To the north is a fine bed with silk sheets, while to the south, a desk and chair under a hanging lantern make a comfortable-looking study.

D6:Crates, barrels, and mounds of miscellaneous refuse lie heaped against the walls here. To the north, the sound of crashing surf echoes in.

D7:The floor of this cavern seems strangely polished and smooth. To the east, a thick curtain of vines and nettles hangs down over a wide opening overlooking the Varisian Gulf.

Probably most importantly, in the room where the party found Lyrie, Cyrus’ new friend, they find a secret door that leads down into musty dungeons. The party determines they will need to return later to explore these further if they wish to, as Martak needs attention…

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
"Take what may be functionally useful... but we need to return to the eminence of population with alacrity."  Aradhel pointed out.  They'd temporarily left Martak in one of the cleaner areas, but she'd have to carry him out of her.  Granted she'd have help, but it wasn't going to be fun either.

Odin strolled about, studying the rooms with interest. He really wanted to continue on down further, but Martak needs attention first.

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause

After the quick search, Hywel rejoined the others.  To Aradhel's suggestion, he offered agreement, "Aye.  We need to get him back and it won't be an easy trek, that's for sure and certain.  Done enough here to put a kink in their efforts I should say, which is why we came."  He glanced down the hall in the direction of the secret door and the further deeps; wanting to give it a look, but recognizing their priority.  "Got some notes and sketches to look over.  Maybe I can glean something useful out from this skree."

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
"What is skree?" Cyrus asked. "I don't see anything particularly interesting, but I feel weird leaving... Nualla, yeah, that's her name... leaving her body here. Call it witch's intuition. Don't know how we'll carry it out though." What he did do, however, was to thoroughly search the possessions she carried when she was slain.

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
"Scree.   Mostly useless dust and gravel found in mountainsides, " answered Hywel in his habitual tutor's voice.   Not accusing,  but pointedly patient.   He glanced to the body,  considering, "I agree.   No doubt some foul magics could be brought to bear on it.   We could burn it?   Faster and more thorough. "

"Fair enough.  But we should hurry and leave crawling around this place for later.  Setting a pyre is a task that will consume some time that Martak does not have."  Aradhel responded.

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
"Martak has plenty of time," Cyrus said, perhaps more dismissively than he intended. "You can leave him on the bed with the silk sheets and he will be better off than on a filthy cot in the inn..." He stroked his chin. "Actually, that's not a bad idea. I can stay here and care for him while his body sweats out the poison and that way we don't have to worry about carrying him back to Sandport."

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
Hywel shook his head at that idea, "No thank you.  I would rather like to be leaving this stinking, creepy place.  Fine beds or no.  I'm sure the bowmen from the town will help carry. I can make a litter to carry Martak easy enough.  As for the burning, it'd be a damn sight easier to build a quick pyre than dig a grave.  Not to mention all the other greenskins up above....  This place is naught but death now.  So, burn the body of the one here or do we just leave it and go?"

Re: Chapter 4: The Root Cause
The party heads over to the cave and burns Nualia's body. It has a particularly noxious odor as it burns, but it burns and its ashes are easily scattered.

What next? Back to town?
