16:48, Today: Odin rolled 1,3 using 1d8,1d6, rerolling max ((1,3)).

"I don't believe it is. However, I've been wrong before. One way to find out..."

Odin used his sword to try and Lift one of the objects.

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations
Jereth looked over the wall carvings, especially that of the mountain and the city of spires.  But, interesting though it might be, the huge coral helmet inexorably drew his eye.  He tried to imagine what the warrior to whom it belonged would be like.  At the mention of uckers and traps, he quirked a brow, "Trap?  Why do you think its a trap?"  He quickly looked down at his feet hoping he had not literally stepped on said trap.

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations
Just as Odin wades into the pool, the gold helmet down below suddenly shifts and moves, as if it were rotating to look at them. Something murky starts moving at Odin!

Only Aradhel spots the thing in time to act in the first round! Aradhel, your move.

Aradhel had to pull the brash wizard out of there...

So something not covered by the rules, as such... Aradhel wants to pull Odin out of the terrible position he's in.

Aradhel is able to yank the lanky caster away...

Assuming Odin does not fight you, you can move up to your Pace to grab Odin and pull him back. Let me know when you've moved bot your and his mini.

"Did you truly have no other means!?" She inquired as she pushed him back.

Assuming I can "turn" him relative to Aradhel the map should be updated.

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations
As Aradhel pulls Odin out of the way, the helmet charges at shore. As it clears the water, the party can see that the helmet is stuck atop a REALLY big hermit crab. It reaches out its massive claw and grabs Jereth painfully about the mid-section!!

Big Crab randomly decides it's going to attack Jereth and hits him hard--hits with a raise for 19 damage! That would be 2 Wounds--Jereth, do you want to Soak that?

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations
Jereth's eyes widen as the helmet turns, "Oh....  trap...."  The sight of the giant crab rushing up from the deeps is far too distracting to think of much in the way of defending yourself.  He tried, of course, but the claw caught him up and pulled him from his feet before he had much of a chance.  He couldn't even think of some joke at the situation, being reduced to a strangled, breath-wasting gurgle as his torso was squeezed.

I do want!  Got a 9 after burning two Bennies.  Which takes care of the Wounds and the Shaken.  Whew!

09:57, Today: Jereth rolled 2,9 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,(6+3)9.  One More Benny.
09:56, Today: Jereth rolled 3,1 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,1.  Soak vs. 2 Wounds!

And, in the next round, Aradhel is again the only person who beat the crab's initiative. Your move, Aradhel!

I forgot to mention a moment ago: Jereth is grappled by the crab.

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations
Well there'd be no help there.  Aradhel grunted and hit the creature as hard as she could with wide swaths, hoping desperately to cleave its thick shell.

15:14, Today: Aradhel rolled 9,3 using 1d10+2,1d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 7,1.  Wild Attack Dagger Hand.

15:13, Today: Aradhel rolled 8,10 using 1d10+2,1d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 6,(6+2)8.  Wild Attack Rapier Hand.

Assuming it has Parry 6, that's one hit and one hit with a Raise.

22 damage -  15:16, Today: Aradhel rolled 17,5 using 1d8+2,1d4, rerolling max with rolls of (8+7)15,(4+1)5.  Strength with Wild attack, Weapon.

12 damage -  15:17, Today: Aradhel rolled 8,1,3 using 1d8+2,1d4,1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 6,1,3.  Strength with Wild Attack, Weapon, Raise.

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations
With two well-placed blows, Aradhel pierces the creature's weak points and hits vitals! The creature writhes in places for a long moment but then releases Jereth and dies!

On the weaker side as Wild Cards go, it managed to soak one of four wounds on the first damage but is then incapacitated by the following Wound. Down it goes!

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations
Aradhel thrust one more time between the chitinous plates of its exoskeleton, and then stopped, panting.

"I do not consume the flesh of other creatures... however I understand that of the crab is something of a delicacy.  You savages will eat well tonight."

She looked at Odin.  "I confess I had imagined your having a more elegant method of decution."

Well it actually did pretty well, Jereth lost bennies, it did a lot of damage and Aradhel got lucky.  Also, Aradhel's 'character build' often excels in this exact situation.

I actually forgot the Gang Up Bonus we had on it too...

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations

Jereth prised his way out of the dead thing's claw, kicking it more than necessary as he scooted away.  He struggled back to his feet, straightening his chainmail and alltogether looking very off his game.  As he worked, he overheard a bit of Aradhel's commentary and added, "Aye.  And maybe a better method of investigation too...."  He paused in his work to look at Aradhel, "Thanks, by the way.  If not for those fast blades, I'd be half the man I should be."

Cyrus sighed. "Don't go picking a fight," he said to the elf. "And for your information, raw crab is really bad. You have to cook it and we don't have a pot big enough."

He limped past and double-checked Jareth for injuries. "You're tougher than you look," he joked.

Odin shrugged "For some reason I thought pissing into the pool of water wouldn't work. I figured best way to determine if it was a tap was to wade in. You did good Aradhel. Thank you. Uh, Jareth, my apologies for putting your life in danger." Odin paused. "So, what now?"

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations
The pool really is quite a decent treasure-trove, though not as rich as one might hope. The party finds 3,500 sp, 630 gp, 40 precious stones worth 10 gp each, and a jade amulet that Odin and Cyrus think might be magical. The most valuable item, though, is clearly the golden helmet, which is easily worth over one thousand gold pieces.

Lyrie spends several minutes fawning over this. "An authentic statue helmet of the ancient days of Xin-Shalast," she says in awe. "This is a remarkable piece!"

She fawns similarly if less exuberantly over the rest of the treasure as well.

The party quickly concludes that there is nothing else of interest here. The only spot in this ancient place not yet explored is the magically-sealed door with the mysterious figure behind it.

"For lack of a better alternative, I propose we extract ourselves and begin a study of that key.  Also, perhaps we should consider a method for collapsing these tunnels."  Aradhel suggested.

Re: Interlude 2: Further Investigations

"I agree with that.  Both things," offered Jereth as he got his gear back on.  Once the creature had been slain and the pool was determined to be safe, the guardsman quickly took the opportunity to doff his armor and tunic to begin the retrieval of the treasure.  A good hero guardsman never misses the opportunity to go shirtless for the job.  Tugging his tunic back down, he grinned, "My first real adventure; monsters, traps, and a haul of treasure.  I could get used to this.  I'd prefer not to get used to being ambushed by a giant crab...but if the pay continues to be this good I can learn to live with it."

Cyrus replied to Lyrie's comments with "So are you."

After Jereth and Aradhel gave their suggestions, he witch nodded. "Collapsing the tunnel would probably require the expertise of an expert dwarven mason. Fortunately, we just happen to know one. Back in town. Lyrie, Odin, and I will study the key and this amulet."
