Tanlis moves into the room, so whatever was coming from the north would not see him. Of course, it would still see Aradhel...

Okay, not completely sure how to narrate this so I'll just make the rolls.

16:00, Today: Aradhel rolled 8,4 using d12+1,d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of 7,3.  Fighting - Right Hand.

13 damage if that hits- 16:01, Today: Aradhel rolled 7,6 using d8+1,d8, rerolling max with rolls of 6,6.  Damage - Right Hand.

16:00, Today: Aradhel rolled 5,3 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,3.  Fighting - Left Hand.

Probably not a hit but I'll roll anyway - 14 -
16:01, Today: Aradhel rolled 2,12 using d8,d8, rerolling max with rolls of 2,(8+4)12.  Possible left hand damage.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Out from the stairs squeezes easily the biggest ogre that the party has seen. Easily 14 feet tall, his arms are massive and his face hideous. He roars, "ELF! PAPPY JAAAGRATH KILL YOU NOW!" He steps forward and takes a blow in the gut from Aradhel that seems to annoy him more than hurt him. He is beside himself with rage that the elf dared to stand her ground against him!

Jereth and Bella are now aware of the presence of this new threat...

The latest ogre is a Wild Card, Jaagrath as he just told you. Aradhel hits him once and he is Shaken. (The "beside himself" is the special effect for the Shaken. :-))

17:58, Today: The Runelord drew the 5 cards: 8H, 4S, 4D, QC, 7C using a deck of 54 cards.  Aradhel, Jereth, Tanlis, Bella, Jaagrath.

Aradhel and Bella go before Jaagrath goes

Jaagrath P7 T12, no wounds, Shaken, 6 Bennies

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Aradhel let out a loud battle cry and then committed to the battle, keeping a neutral form for now.  This opponent would not be easy, and Aradhel was trying her best to find an opening in his defenses.

19:44, Today: Aradhel rolled 5,5 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,5.  Fighting - Left Hand.

19:43, Today: Aradhel rolled 6,2 using d12+1,d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of 5,1.  Fighting - Right Hand.

Whiff whiff!

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Seeking to assist Aradhel against Jaagrath, 'Bella whipped her stars towards the Ogre's eyes, hoping to catch him off-guard and if not blind him outright.

(My Intent here is a Trick (Agility?) to catch the Ogre off-guard and hopefully leave him vulnerable until his next turn, although that also banks on the hope that he can be attacked before then…

17:55, Today: Silvijabella rolled 9,3 using d6+1,d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of (6+2)8,2.  Throwing for Trick Attempt.

Here's hoping it's Throwing based….   Either a 9 or 2 to resist…)

The ogre flinches as Bella's star ricochets near him as he gathers his wits.

The Trick works; the ogre has -2 to hit until end of his next turn.

He un-shakes.

Jereth and Tanlis are up!

Jaagrath P7 T12, no wounds, not Shaken, 6 Bennies

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Jereth looked over the empty storeroom carefully...though it was pretty obvious there weren't any good places to hide an ogre.  Then the roaring and crashing sounded from the other room.  Turning, he bolted back through the kitchens to the hall.  The sight of the ogre barely gave him pause this time, even though it was a distinctly bigger one than most they had fought.  His arm slid back into his shield as he went, swinging the scarred and bashed face around again on this new foe.  His blade joined the others in the wild melee, though not to much effect.  He reset his footing and turned his blade to the high guard for the next strike...

Hack (+1 sword, +1 gangup, -2 Multi-action) - WHIFF

04:00, Today: Jereth rolled 2,3 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,3. Have at Thee!

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
The ogre takes the blow from the newly-summoned tree golem gamely; he rolls with it but still comes out looking like he's at least a bit hurt.

The ogre was un-shaken when hit by the golem; he successfully soaked 2 wounds of a possible 3, leaving him with 1 wound and shaken.

Next round: Jereth, Tanlis and Bella get to go before Jaagrath does!!

Jaagrath P7 T12, 1 wound, Shaken, 3 Bennies

17:24, Today: The Runelord drew the 5 cards: 9H, KH, JH, QC, 10H using a deck of 54 cards.  Aradhel, Jereth, Tanlis, Bella, Jaagrath.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

When fighting horrible ogre fiends, it was best not to let up.  As the big villain turned to his attention to the attacking golem, Jereth dove in with his sword raised high.  He brought it down across Jaagrath's side in a vicious downward strike.  The Wrath Cut.  Powerful, but potentially overbalancing....

Wild Strike - To Hit 16, Damage (with Raise) 25.

Parry reduced by 2!

18:14, Today: Jereth rolled 25 using 2d8+3+1d6, rerolling max with rolls of (8+6)14,3,5.  Wild Slash Damage!

18:13, Today: Jereth rolled 16,10 using d10+5,d6+5, rerolling max with rolls of (10+1)11,5.  Wild Slash!

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
The pair of Jereth and the tree-golem quickly and effectively slay the "pappy-ogre," who falls with an incredulous scream.

This leaves the party free to investigate further. To the north, they find a store-room. B2s Crates, barrels, and a stack of firewood have been smashed apart and heaped in a tangled pile in the corner of this room. A flight of stairs leads down to the west.

To the east, they find a library. B21 A long table with benches to either side sits in this room opposite a bookshelf filled with dozens of books, most of which have been torn from the shelves, mangled, and then messily stuffed back in place.

The room to the west is horrifying. B23 Once used to house the wounded and sick, this chamber is now a slice of some blood-drenched nightmare. Hacked pieces of bodies litter the sick beds. The floor is slick with gore, strewn with mangled organs and heaps of entrails. A dead fat man sits at one of the operating tables, arranged as if he were merrily spooning chunks of his own disembodied organs out of a brown bowl. His guts spill out of a large gaping slash in his midsection.

This leaves the main floor cleared. All that remains are stairs.

Stairs up or stairs down?

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

Jereth slung his blade to the side, wiping it off on....something relatively clean in this hall...  Once clean, he joined the search with the others and all the ghastly sights that went along with that.  Back in the hallway, he attempted, yet again today, to not throw up.  In answer to the question, he shrugged faintly, "I've no idea...   I would suggest searching the upper floor while leaving some to ward the lower stair.  Should we go below, we could become trapped more easily if there are any above."

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
'Bella looked in shock for a moment, then her hand covered her mouth as she turned away as her gut wrenched and she made her way quickly back into the hallway and against the opposite wall.    The Elf was for once grateful that she hadn't eaten much earlier as the discomfort of hunger gave way to dry heaves at the sight of the infirmary's contents.

She was only vaguely aware of the conversation, but gave a brief nod at the suggestion of exiting up the stair, if only for the peace of mind that doing so would put the nightmarish scene behind them.  At the moment she could not form words for any other response.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Aradhel made one quick check.  If the basement opened up to something larger below, it would stand to reason the occupants would install a bar, portcullis, or lockable door to the passage leading down.  Was such a fortification present?  If so, she would at least insist they activate it before leaving.

If not, she was content to nod and head up.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Two things work in favor of the party's thinking. First, Aradhel does, in fact, find a bar nearby that fits nicely over the basement door. Secondly, Archimedes comes in with the the members of the Black fist and Shalelu. They offer to watch this door while the four others--Aradhel, Bella, Jereth and Tanlis--head upstairs.

Any disagreement?

In reply to The Runelord (msg # 672):

Tanlis agrees with the plan, however, he is still concerned. The ogres just keep coming-and sooner or later his energies would be used up maintaining the Tree Golems. "We may need to rest soon...I know I will." He points out.

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick
Aradhel agreed and offered her thoughts.  "This does not favor us.  But I see no choice.  If the others will hold down here, I see no reason we should not go above.  Perhaps if we can go above and secure this place, we can then try below at our leisure since that door can be fortified to at least an extent."

Re: Chapter 8: Retaking Rannick

Jereth, looking more than a little haggard at this point as well, agrees, "Clear the upper floor and then we might be able to rest."  Taking a long breath, he steadies himself and heads for the stairway up.  No sense waiting around.

Silvijabella followed the others up the stair, hopeful the horror of the visage would pass or fade before they settled in, otherwise a rest would not come easily.
