It's the person glowing, right? I wasn't clear if maybe one of the runes were glowing.

Would uldaf recognize these runes/circles to be similar to the ones that led to him having magic powers, too?

I just don't want to go back and metagame this and be like

@Uldaf:  to you, the runes look exactly like the ones where you got your powers.

@Titus/Brennan: when you have defeated a "powered" individual in the past, their aura transferred to you.  What exactly that means is up to your interpretation.  OOC you know that this gains you Echo at least.

All of this is news to me. I thought we were given our powers in the aftermath of the explosion. I certainly don't recall stealing the various lightning and metal cloak powers from the miscreants we defeated earlier. Don't we regenerate echo naturally? And gain/lose our cache level based on adherence to The Echo Doctrine™?

In the "What are these powers" forum, it's known that you get Echo by "defeating" those with powers.

Whether this is "stealing their power" or what, that I haven't commented on.  Certainly none of you have begin turning into metal, growing plants or shooting lightening.

In reply to GM (msg # 959):

You say "it is known," but neither me nor Brennan is/has been aware of that. When was that demonstrated?

I was treating echo levels as a game mechanic that my character would ignorant of, in the same way Brennan wouldn't be like "oooh, 150 xp! These guys must be our level!"

So when we defeated dudes and echo stores replenished, I thought that was the system.

The way I'm playing it as a game mechanic.  Titus will use it as he needs it but he may (and is likely) to run out but continue to attempt to use his power... though it has not happened yet.

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 961):

The transfer of power is known at least to Titus when he stabs the green guy in the throat and the aura transfers into him.  Also I think that Hannah or someone mentioned something about subduing/defeating someone with an aura and it will become yours or some such nonsense...

However, the glee at getting to steal power is OOC and not in game... Titus will kill a bitch if it comes to it though ;)... just you know... for science!

But that changes everything! I thought the auras dictated what kind of power you wielded, and could perhaps be related to the source of that specific power or as a way to predict what the target will be able to do.

If instead you just color-change to match whoever you most recently killed, that's an entirely different mechanic.

Re: OOC Discussion

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 963):

The gain of echo when you "defeat" a powered enemy is OOC knowledge, so you've no reason for your character to be aware of the echo mechanic.

In-game you only saw auras moving and being transferred, but then fading.  Nobody has changed color that you've seen, even when defeating a powered enemy.

I think we need a larger sample size... so at the moment I full plan on murderfucking the first person with an aura who desperately deserves it and then we will see what happens.

Given the fact he knows that the power transfered from the plant guy to him he thinks that more power will transfer to him with subsequent victories... until proved otherwise... and given his desperate desire for power and to be known he is fully planning on doing everything he can to make this happen.

Hmm... ok, we'll have to see how it pans out.

So you only get the aura if you last-hit the guy?

Totally hypothetical, of course. I would never pull much shots until the very end and then snipe for the final blow...

I'm also going to need a ruling on whether or not Uldaf is capable of pulling the Beast Boy special:

Transforming from eagle to Bear midair and dropping like a ton of freaking bricks on whoever is unfortunate enough to be below him.

No particular reason I'm asking..

So based on the evidence so far... I would say no.

1.  It explicitly says 'Defeat' which does not equate to kill
2.  I last shotted the guy that Uldaf was in the process of eating, but did not get the power.

I still do not recall seeing anything at all about gaining or sapping or magnet-ing powers from dead folks.

I'm not saying it's not true, it's just utterly new to me and ya'll are all like "Yeah, that's how it works. Duh. How did you not know?"

I... need a minute.

That!  So much that!

Short answer:  yes, Uldaf can turn from Eagle into Bear without landing.  He will fall for the entire duration of the transformation (1 round essentially) and continue to fall thereafter.

Landing and making an attack would be a dual-action.  Just landing and using body weight to crush an enemy is not a combi-action.

Bears are not really equipped to land from great heights, so unless it's done from fairly low, there's a good chance of self injury.

Please do not take any of this as an endorsement or condemnation of the activity.  Players will what they will.
