Re: OOC Discussion

In reply to Titus Blackwell (msg # 774):

There are only 2 versions of Hercules that I have enjoyed (beyond the written stories, which are excellent):

1) The 1960s cartoon version of Hercules. While not canon, the episodes are like 6 minutes long and are hilarious. Hercules is a god with the strength of ten men, but only when he wears the ring of Zeus. Which he carries in his belt. With or without the ring, he can jump up to Mt. Olympus or down to Greece whenever he wants. By jumping. It's excellent in a terrible way.

2) The Disney version of Hercules. Also not strictly canon, but I can't watch that movie and not have a good time. Though maybe that's just me.

Didn't really watch that.

I did, however, watch Xena. For obvious reasons.

Obvious... :)  I always liked the homoerotic tension of the Kevin Sorbo Hercules, it actually is one of the few things that truly captures the relationship between him and Iaolus.

I should think that was covered under "obvious". And it is another part of why I preferred Xena :)

In reply to Brennan Otthild (msg # 780):

You know I went back and watched a few episodes of Xena about 2 years ago... its significantly worse than I remember it being.  Same for Hercules.  Apparantly if you don't have teenage testosterone coursing through your veins the show is suddenly less interesting.

...Don't even get me started on going back to voltron.

Most of the old shows perform poorly under adult scrutiny.

An exception is Gargoyles. I still enjoy it, even if there's a wince or two from time to time.

I think Gargoyles more of a 90s card criteria than nerd card.  That was my jam in middle school.

Yeah, that's fair. It is damned nerdy but at the time it really wasn't.

Instead I'll take your childhood card.

Also, nice dodge Brennan.

Thaaaaat's gonna really slow down the whole "teaching them to read and write" angle. Though maybe they already know how to do that, given that their parents were ostensibly witches and perhaps had "recipe books" for spells or something.

Since I think Jon got eaten by a bear I'm just going to assume that the villagers complacently follow me to the nearest bar where they float me on a river of whiskey to the home of the most toothsome female in the village where she carnally expresses her gratitude.

Since homehow our crabby hermit is the party's moral compass..

I couldn't think what else to do with our children of the corn, and knew we couldn't leave them here to cause hell..

I'm open to suggestions, and we probably can't set the precedent we're going to recruit every magical person we run into.

Soon Jon will have us followed around by an entire orphanage of magical children.

Actually, that sounds like a sweet game.

What if I told you 4 tax collectors..
