Re: OOC Discussions

Well, I set the intro up putting new characters into the setting as is. So far, I've got two people interested.

Hello all; working on mine as well.

What kind of classes do we have already, by the way?
I'm new to the game but after getting stuck reading traveller stuff for 5 hours last night, I am hooked.  Can't wait to play.  Hope it is a long, great game!

Good point. Are there any professions or skills lacking we newbie's can focus upon?

Traveller is probably my favorite world. Have played it off and on since the Little Black Books and am in possession of most all of the Classic Traveller books and several of the box games and now collecting the Mongoose books mostly in pdf. Love having the whole set of books in my iPad, always at hand.

Re: OOC Discussions

Well from what I can see we have a Merchant/Agent and Scout that were in this game in it's previous incarnation, not sure who else was.

So you have those two and me, an Agent. You're probably better asking the GM for advice on what skills are lacking in the current group.

And I have all the LBB from way back in the day, but yeah I'm fairly new to MgT, and what I have is on pdf.

Re: OOC Discussions

I'm looking for connections:

My character has a chequered biography.
1 Term before now: Broker on Lanth
2 Terms before now: Marines Nurse
3 Terms before now: Administrator/bored office girl
before that: childhood on an asteroid (Administrator's daughter)

Does she fit with your guys anywhere?

Drex's Events table:-

Last Term
You establish a network of contacts. Gain 1 contact.

2 Terms Ago
You are given advanced training in a specialist field.

3 Terms Ago
You complete a mission for your superiors, and are suitably rewarded. Helped start a revolution on a world ripe for Imperial takeover.

4 Terms Ago
Life Event. New Relationship. The character becomes involved in a romantic relationship.

Ref, could you give us some character sheets (and the ability to edit them), please? Like to be able to access my stats and skills without checking my PMs. ;)

Re: OOC Discussions

I was thinking about an agent, but, seeing the current character types, I am now inclined towards a pilot since that skill area looks weak....thoughts?

Re: OOC Discussions

Greetings all!

It's been mentioned we have a few agents, a pilot/merchant, a scout and a noble strong in social skills.  Are our agents more stealthy or combat oriented?  I ask because I can certainly aim for a military character - weapons support, that sort of thing.  But if our agents have that covered, maybe something more supporting, like an engineer, computer whiz, doctor or administrative type would be appropriate.

I'm just a little worried about stats for the education-based careers, since I rolled completely average (6-8 for all stats).  Some higher learning opportunities won't be open with an average EDU score.

Open to thoughts/comments from all.

Both! Neither! Not much in the way of stealth but I can shoot a handgun - almost as well as I can shoot my mouth. ;)

I talk my way in/out of situations, then shoot if I have to. ;)

Hi Greg!

As has been mentioned, we have a Scout, Merchant/Pilot, a Noble and a Scout, and even with a few players yet to decide there's plenty of options out there. Just do what you want, I'd suggest - game will sort itself!

Re: OOC Discussions

Of course it's impossible at this point to define exactly how the game will proceed, will it be combat intensive, exploration, diplomacy, sneaking around....

But, we, as a group need to ensure that we try to cover all bases/aspects as best we can...so, the question still stands...what skills are the group lacking, that will help the new guys to choose careers that assist the group and therefore increase our chances of survival over the long run.

Make sense?

Re: OOC Discussions

Drex? There may be room for connecting during your last term.

My character discovered some illegal proceedings in the firm she was working for and investigated them. She may well have come across an agent.

Luise - I could go for that. I could have been brought in separately, or by yourself as an alternative, and we could have worked toward the same goal. I have the skills a good investigator needs.

Re: OOC Discussions

Okay, rolled my character up and despite my best intentions to achieve a military background he wasn't what the brass thought of as a good luck charm (first 3 terms were failures on Survival roll).  So, I hate to say it but I have a few terms of Agent (blame the draft!).  Still, he's reasonably good with a gun and has some other combat and supporting skills.

Here's a quick summary of his terms, if anyone sees opportunity for character connections.  To line things up, Nate is 38 years old at the start of the game.

Term 1:

Marines - failed assault mission, stranded behind enemy lines.  When eventually rescued, drummed out of service to keep failure quiet.

Term 2:

Army - unit slaughtered in massacre, commander at fault.  To hide commander's failing, had Nate drummed out of service (gained enemy - Army Captain)

Term 3:

Mercenary - fighting for rebels on Tarsus VI in failed insurgency.  Injured, dropped from merc unit to recuperate in hospital.

Term 4:

Tried to gain employment with syndicate in Tarsus system but rejected over previous Imperial government connections (or maybe Army Captain?).  Desperate, entered draft and chosen for corporate agent role.  Settled down some, started a family (son born).  Promoted to Agent after successful pharmaceutical company infiltration.

Term 5:

Continued with corporate agent role.  Success at work continued (Field Agent), but family "stolen" by another man (gain Rival).  Dejected, mustered out with few benefits and fled for Lanth system to start over (again).

Well I wouldn't put it....actually, no - I would put it like that. ;)

Nathaniel - Some rotten luck there!

My term 2 was your term 3. I made up my story about working behind the scenes to start a revolution on a planet ripe for Imperial takeover (the Imperium being one of the main employers of the agency [Covert Operations Bureau] for whom I work), but perhaps as an alternative I could have been working behind the scenes to put down your insurgency? You could have had glimpses here and there of this stereotypical suit-and-shades guy always standing in the background, pulling strings and directing operations, without ever getting directly involved. Perhaps I visited and interviewed you in hospital?

Just throwing it out there, open to possibilities.
