Re: OOC Chat 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Where do we want to go after this room?  I'm aware that there's one passage off of the main room which hasn't been followed, but I'm running out of inspiration for this area.  There's still a bit of looting to do, and I haven't distributed XP in a while, but it's mostly mop-up work.

Do you guys want to switch this to an underdark campaign, following the narrow tunnels out of the city?

Do you want to leave the city/pyramid and travel elsewhere?

I've got a lot of modules that I could drop in.

Do we want to wrap things up and end here?

Would one of you like to take over and run a new adventure?  Since Vsaati's player just left, I could take the character over, in that event.

Not this. I'm having fun! Let's keep going.

With respect, you're doing a great job running. I would hate for you to stop. I am open to whichever option is the most enjoyable for you!

As far as having you play: I have given some thought to running a Companion Set campaign. Would you be interested in playing in that DM? Would others here be interested?

Companion Set?  I've never played in a game of standard D&D at that high a level.

I'm intrigued.

I'll look through my Expert-Level modules and see what I have for us to go on to next, if others are of a like mind.

Loot and XP are what I live for in OSR games! So handwave if you'd like, I know what it's like to hit the wall sometimes as a DM, but don't skimp on the lucre!

DM:

I get the feeling you're a little burned out of this adventure, maybe that's not the case, but it has been going on for a long time. It's been awesome! Personally, I'd like to continue this game, but I understand if the energy just isn't there anymore. I thought there was at least two levels below this one, where Hamburg was found and where Albricht died. I wouldn't mind exploring those, as well as eventually finding our way out of the underground city and back to whatever civilization remains above. If that means a trek through the underdark, that'd be fun too. If you wanted to use that as a montage of sorts to get us to one of the modules you mention, that'd be fine too. I would like to play at higher character levels at some point. I've had dozens and dozens of low-level characters over the decades, but few at 5th or higher.  I was bummed when Albricht died, though it was pretty awesome, because he was so close to leveling up. Anyway, I'm up for whatever.

DM:

I get it. The lament of the perpetual DM who wishes to play. I've kind of been itching to start DM'ing on RPOL again, all of my games have been on Hiatus for a few years, though one may be starting back up soon. I'd be willing to take the reins here for a while to take the story in a different direction.

But honestly, this has been one of my all-time favorites on RPOL, and you've been a great and consistent DM for which you should be proud. This has been a long running game, and with a few exceptions, like multiple iterations of Vsaati for example, its been a loyal core of players as well. So for me, I'm happy to keep on going as we have been, or if some change is needed I'm good with that as well.

At this point, I'd like to finish up the bottom of the pyramid.  The crypt with the teleporter sent you to a lower level of the pyramid, but you guys climbed back up to higher levels of the pyramid, then back to the city.

If you're good with a quick hand-wave on looting here (there's really not much to do but wait for the webs to dissipate, or to burn them, with possible consequences), I can distribute loot and XP, then you can get your reward from the general.  After that, we could run through the rest of the pyramid, then head off on other adventures.

I'm thinking about "X2: Castle Amber" next.

Sounds great. As far as the Companion Set adventure, I'll post a summary of some of the things involved here later in the week. In the mean time, feel free to pick up the PDF--it's a mere $3.00 U.S.

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/p...c?term=companion+set

(I don't gain anything from the sale, in case you're wondering--it will just save me a lot of work firing up the story if people have the rules :-))

I've to a couple of copies of the Companion Set rules, plus the Rules Cyclopedia.  Still, a PDF would be cool.

Ahhh... it was a teleporter... brings back memories of The Bard's Tale. Makes more sense now.

I'm fine with that... there were those four sealed doors on this level and some coffins we were going to come back to, plus several hundred corpses in repose... :-P Let's do that and continue deeper!

Cool! That'd be fun!

OK, here's the XP to this point, including the remaining 15,000 GP payoff for clearing the undead out of the catacombs:

8552 XP each, prior to any bonuses due to a high prime requisite.

Do you need me to recap the loot?

That's new XP, in addition to what we had, right?

And yes, please, a loot recap would be great.

Re: OOC Chat 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Yes, that's new XP, on top of your existing XP.  Please remember that you can only gain one level at a time, so if you have enough XP to gain more than one, remember to wait until after you get a rest in the action before taking the second level.

Loot recap:

spear/staff/lighting bolt pendant (ch7-178) (5000 GP)
4 gems (total of 1700 GP, room 72)
3000 EP (3000 EP = 1500 GP, room 63)
5000 GP (5000 GP, room 63)
8 pieces of jewelry (9600 GP total, room 63)
2 silver masks of Zargon (total of 3000 GP, room 51)
23 GP (23 GP, room 56)
14 SP (1.4 GP, room 56)
62 CP (.62 GP, room 56)
leather armor (7 GP, room 56)
normal sword (60 GP, room 56)
6 shortswords (42 GP, room 56)
6 zargon masks (60 GP total, room 56)
costume jewelry (15 GP, room 55, ad-hoc)
20,000 GP payoff in town for killing undead (20,000 GP)
Total: 46,009.02 GP this section

Multiple levels at once? You're funny--definitely not the case for either of my guys. Voran didn't even level! :-) Roak is now officially Roak the Swashbuckler, though.

I'll be firing up a forum for the Companion set game this weekend--besides our good DM, is anyone else interested?

What sort of adventure would you be running with the Companion rules, Roak? Are we talking about kingdom building?

Re: OOC Chat 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Sorry for the delay in responding--RL got a bit nuts.

Regarding the Companion game, there are a couple of ways we could go:

1. We can go with the Companion rules set of having the party be a ruling group for a small part of a larger empire and let you explore all the elements of domain-building interspersed with high-level encounters and maybe big-army battles;

2. I can run another of the more-traditional adventures that assume you don't have land or domain yet starting at level 15

What's everyone's preference?

I'd prefer option 1, because I remember reading through the Companion rules when I was a teenager, but never got a chance to try the dominion rules.

Re: OOC Chat 2 - Electric Boogaloo

I've got enough games going at the moment that I would want to suspend this one if I'm adding myself to another.  I would like to play in a higher-level game, but we've been playing this one for almost six years now, and I hesitate to leave the rest of you hanging.

How do the rest of you feel about shifting to playing a game that Roak is running, versus continuing here?

Re: OOC Chat 2 - Electric Boogaloo

I'm up for whatever. My only concern about pausing this game for a while is that we might never get it going again. This is the longest running game I play in, and one of the most fun. I play in one of Roak's games, which I really enjoy, and I'd like to play high-level BECMI flavor as I never got there growing up. I also feel like if momentum is lost it'll just be that much harder to "get the band back together again" ... So I'm torn.

Roak, I'd like to play in your game under whatever scenario, leaning toward a knightly/paladinly sort of character

DM - I'd like to continue here with the finishing out of the pyramid or ???, it might be nice to bump up a level or two and get some more cool lootz... ;-P

Anyway, my life's in crazy mode right now anyway, I'll be working nights (18:30-09:30) for about four more weeks until calving is finished and then my boss is considering building a house so I'll have that on top of all my other responsibilities on the ranch. So if I only have to think about my characters in-game and less meta, the better for me until Fall.

I'm all for finishing it but I probably won't be interested in a new campaign.  Over the years I have moved to other platforms that move a little faster.  As great as this game has been, it's just been hard to feel the level of immersion that I like with this slower medium.

Thanks, all, for your input.

I'm definitely up for finishing this adventure, and have material to move past this point.

Also, this is our second OOC thread that is approaching its 1000 post limit, so I'll be creating a new one for us to continue.
