Re: Combat: Post Combat

In reply to Lady Jacqueline Raynelde (msg # 326):

[Private to Lady Jacqueline Raynelde: The half orc looks at her and sighs. "I need to get to styus. We're running low on time as it is... but I see your point...But I don't think they won't just simply let their guard down anytime soon. I feel it may be now or never. " He gets up, searching the room for something sharp. A jagged rock, a broken piece of wood. Anything. He looks at Jacquline's expression. "Don't worry. I don't plan to kill anyone. Maybe put the hurt on, but no more corpses for a while."  He looks to the lady. "If we do this, you know they will attack us. And you know that I need to reach Styus.I need you to have my back. Help me get out of here. Maybe we can do this quite like? I know I'm real sneaky when I need to be, and I've seen you give a go at it. You're not half bad. I feel that we can work together without getting noticed. We put our guard to sleep, leave him in here, and tip toe our way out. Sound okay?"]

Re: Combat: Post Combat

Lady Jacqueline rolls her eyes, blowing a tuft of hair that got loose into her face.

[Private to Adwonus Swillman: Smirking, she addresses Adwonus. "No need to be hostile. They don't seem to be making that big of a ruckus out there. The less harm we can do and charm people, the better. We can make a bigger effect in larger numbers when we convince people to hear us and to be in our side." Taken aback at the compliment, she blushes slightly. "Th-thanks, I guess. I use it for good and to gather what I need, but never to steal anything." She casually strides over to the window to look out below. "I think if we just wait a second, we'll be out of here. I don't want to taint their opinion of us."]

She whistles sharply out the window, hoping someone might hear her.

Re: Combat: Post Combat

I consider the events before us.

"How long ago did Darus leave, maybe we catch still catch him!?" I run out onto the parapet and look down where he disappeared to. I call, hissing for him, "Darus!!"

[Private to DM Ryan; Dwalin Grayhammer; Lady Jacqueline Raynelde; Mikael Vaeltaja; Taisiya Northwood: I whisper to those present in the room, "Does that room have a window the size a person could climb out of?" I walk out on to the parapet and look down into the courtyard, where someone could have climbed out of the window of the upstairs room or in range of Lady Jacqueline's whistle. I also look on the tower roof.]

[Private to DM Ryan; Dwalin Grayhammer; Lady Jacqueline Raynelde; Mikael Vaeltaja; Taisiya Northwood: Speaking to Aidon: "This is serious. It makes me wonder, how all Kelden's men do not know where the headquarters is, but the enemy does?!" I exclaim in my frustration. "I think I may have a way to find him, but I will need my other team member -Lady Jacqueline. She is as loyal to your cause as your men, she fought and risked her life taking the north tower at Darus request. She is able to be trusted. I cannot vouch the same for the half orc. I am told he has important information, which I would like to hear, especially if it may help us find Kelden. If you think the interrogation must still happen, I do not think you will have a problem with Lady Jacqueline submitting to questioning. The half ork likely does have important information though. I think waiting to release her to me would be a mistake. The interrogation may be a good idea to take care of now, even if in a shortened fashion. You can deal with the details later if you need. This problem is too urgent to overlook this information however. Lady Jacqueline is the best I have in information gathering, I need her. She can help us find Kelden. We also need to comb this tower for information ASAP."

"Dwalin, Taisiya, Mikael, we need to search this tower for more information like this, and the other tower. Do it quickly! We need to loot those bodies (on the ground floor of the north tower) and the chest (on the upper floor of the north tower), and grab that halberd that the guard dropped, I think I brought it to the 1st floor of the tower with the bodies of the guards already. Go quickly, we will wait for you to discuss all this 'information' Adwonus has when you are here."

"Ok I'll head to the south tower, but it would be best if I had some help. Mikael, Taisiya let's one of you come with me to the north tower." I walk down the stairs and exit the south tower and run over to the north tower [DM Ryan - Door blocked, go across the parapet]. I enter and proceed to loot the bodies, looking for anything of value or importance to the situation. After looting the bodies, I head up stars to open the chest.

Taisiya quickly scurried after Dwalin. ((If any are present in the rooms (didn't get a layout of second floor I don't think).))"Don't forget to look in any drawers." She rifled through them, proceeding to pick up the halberd as requested before going back up with Dwalin to the chest.

Re: Combat: Post Combat

In reply to Herr Johannes (msg # 324):

To Herr Johannes with a surprised look. Loud enough for others around us to hear, "I'm surprised if took you this long to recognize me old friend! It feels as though very few nights have passed since we hunted down those skum together!" In a less eccentric tone, "Ah, yes. We must catch up as soon as we find ourselves under better circumstances. But I have been well as of late."

[Private to Herr Johannes: "I too am glad to see that you are a supporter of Kelden. It is good to find at least a few people I can trust in this treacherous place. Thanks for the tip on the half orc, I already felt an eerie presence from him. I will be sure to keep a sharp eye on him. And it looks like the Lady can't seem to keep herself out of trouble."]

Address the group around me. "I am from the capital of Galia, which is Saari. I am not a soldier, I see myself as more of an adventurer... or wanderer. My father is on the council of Galia, but I do not have the patience for politics. So I found myself seeking my own adventures. However, I have been training in the art of combat my entire life. I prefer to take my opponent head on and one-on-one, but I will always take advantages where I find the opportunity. Weather that be remaining unseen, or... My hand bolting out from under my robe in a mere flash. "my dagger finding the enemy where he did not expect it. I don't burden myself with heavy, metal armor. I find that not allowing the enemy to place a hit is just as effective."

Just before following Dwalin to the south tower.
To Herr Johannes "If there is a window to the room Lady Jacqueline is in, perhaps we can communicate to her quietly. We could attach a note to your bird who can bring it to her. It also may not be bad practice in case we ever need to get a message somewhere later on that may be a farther journey."

Now following Dwalin to the tower, I also search the room for anything useful. Information or otherwise.

Re: Combat: Post Combat

While they search for information I speak further to Aidon.

[Private to GM: "Do you have any horses at your disposal? I assure you I am the best rider you have and I think I know where I can find him, my people value horsemanship as preeminent among the martial arts, and I am no exception. I could get there faster than anyone else.]
[Private to Dwalin Grayhammer; Mikael Vaeltaja; Taisiya Northwood:
We must try to find Kelden, we cannot just do nothing. I am disturbed also, how this information was exposed to the enemy about Kelden's where-about? Who can we trust? It may be best to do this interrogation and questioning now and just keep it short. It might help us find Kelden. At least let me talk to them to see if the information can help."

If Aidon consents to the others being questioned now, we can take 10-15 minutes to talk to them. I wait for the others to return before we begin the questioning and discussion.

Re: Combat: Post Combat

Herr Johannes leaned on the battlements of the parapet, gazing over the city from above the gate. There was no sign of Darus who'd disappeared into the alleys some minutes ago. Buildings spread like a dense labyrinth across the east and west. Then, Johannes heard a whistled tune bouncing off the buildings, and he immediately recognized it to be Jacqueline's, whistling from her cell. Leaning further over the side, glancing toward the tower, he called out, "Jacqueline?" She couldn't hear him. If there was a window, it was small and on the opposite side. [Private to Dwalin Grayhammer; Mikael Vaeltaja; Taisiya Northwood: Meanwhile, Taisiya picked up a fallen halberd and spear. Dwalin walked beside her and looked at the spearman's face; the rebels had dragged his body to the side of the room. The entrance to the North Lower Tower was being boarded up, as a couple young rebels hammered spare wood across. No one was going through that any time soon. "Help me with his armor," Dwalin said. Taisiya aided the dwarf in get the Studded Leather off the body, along with a small pouch at his belt, and a helm – though it was fairly ugly. Arms full, they headed upstairs where Mikael was searching through another desk. Cots lined the stone wall with a few chests at their feet. "Darus said we can have one of the chests for our share," Taisiya mentioned. Picking one, they opened it up and found a few interesting things inside: a short sword, a bag of silver and copper, and a parchment with bad poetry written on it, all likely belonging to whatever guard once owned this chest. Suddenly, Mikael said, "Hey, I found something, and it might interest you guys I believe." He held up a note which read:

quote:
Sergeant Dugwin, With Celus Larlben's death and charges of treason against him, we can sieze his assets from his widow, and add their funds to the state treasury. This'll help our coffers immensely, perhaps even gaining some independence from financial debt to the Pirate Lord. Unfortunately, between the rebels and the guards of Larlben's widow, we don't have the strength to take it at this time. When the rebels are quelled and Kelden Delcor captured or slain, this'll be our next task. ~ Ulin Morris, Captain of the Guard.
]

Dwalin, Taisiya, and Mikael stepped onto the parapet from the North Upper Tower, returning from gathering loot. Taisiya handed Johannes a halberd, and Dwalin and Mikael had their arms full. Together, they walked back into the South Upper Tower where Aidon was re-searching the Sergeant's desk for anything else of importance. While Dwalin and Mikael spread the loot on the floor, Johannes asked, "So how do all of Kelden's men do not know where the headquarters is, but the enemy does?!"

Aidon concluded his searching, finding nothing new, and replied, "I can tell you're new Brothers. You see, nobody knows where Kelden Delcor is, and I have no idea how the enemy could find out." He straightened his black ponytail which had gotten caught in the shoulders of his leather armor. "The only people who know where Kelden's secret base is are his most-trusted men, his lieutenants, like Darus. Then his lieutenants relay Kelden's orders to all the different outposts in the city." A couple rebels began noisily moving the furniture downstairs, likely to barricade the tower entrance with. Aidon paused a moment over the noise and continued, "Our forces are really decentralized. Each local outpost runs pretty much on its own, and directions from Kelden through his lieutenants keep them all moving on the same page. This way, we're fairly immune to spies, at least in the higher ranks. You see, Kelden represents the people, so both common people and strangers alike (such as yourselves) rally to our cause; this also makes it easy for spies to join, which both Steyus and Larlben have done incessantly over the past year. But it doesn't matter, cause even if a spy enters an outpost, he still can't find where Kelden is, nor can he affect the other outposts, limiting the damage he can cause until he's caught. Before Kelden Delcor set things up this way, do you have any idea how many assassination attempts he had to suffer through? A lot. . ." Aidon leaned against the wall. "So we rely on Darus at this outpost for information, and we usually see him every week or so. Otherwise, I'm in charge here, and we do our best to trouble Steyus whenever we can."

"Makes sense," said Marcus. "Though it'd be tough to get information back to Kelden, like now." Aidon replied, "The cost of being safe. We've never found information this imminent before though." Johannes nodded toward the side room and said, "What of our allies?" Unhooking a ring from his belt, Aidon held up a number of keys, "I suppose we can question them now." He walked across the floor and pressed a key into the lock; he jiggled it for a few seconds in frustration. Finally, Aidon simply turned the knob and it opened. He said, "I don't think Darus locked this right. Hmm. . ." [Private to Herr Johannes: Johannes added, "Also, do you have any horses available?" "To new members, I'm afraid not Brother. We don't have the wealth to spare like that. We have some for senior members, but you need to have a higher rank in the Brotherhood to access them."]

Inside were Adwonus and Lady Jacqueline, looking the same as they were, though perhaps more bored. Adwonus sat against a wall dozing off while Jacqueline stared out an arrowslit in the back, practicing her whistling. They both looked at Aidon as the door swung open. Aidon studied them both a moment, trying to size them up, and finally said to them, "So Darus seems to think you're both a threat, and he's left it up to me to decide whether you are or not. Prove to me you're not, or I'll leave you here until the war is over."

The half-orc stands up making full advantage of his height over the human. He comes close to the man, doing his best not to fear the rebel's weapons. He stares right into his face looking down. "What do you mean prove I'm not a threat?" He waits a moment before continuing. "How bout you give me back my axes and knife before your boys steal them, and let me walk on home. No bad blood between us?" He takes one step back and extends his hand.

[Private actions]

[Private to DM Ryan: Marcus, unable to locate his companions, decided he would at least look into Alldyde's plot. He didn't want to bring any more undue attention to himself, so he first stole a second to shave as he had been suggested earlier that day. He contemplated his hair, then with a begrudging sigh dealt with that as well. "Perhaps that will at least keep me out of the eye of the general populace, for now." With that, he racked his brain for any ideas on where to go to get the map to its prescribed destination, and who he might be able to question to that end.

Re: Combat: Post Combat

Starting to get a little annoyed by all the meaningless arguing. "Aidon, we need to make a decision here. I know you don't have a lot of reasons to be favorable to the half-orc right now, but I think it's safe to say he is not our enemy. We don't have much time at the moment as it is and by the looks of it we are a little short on allies. I'm not saying you need to release him, but we need an opportunity to get some answers." Reaching back into my pocket I pull out the note from the captain of the gaurd and read it over again. "Hey guys, I found something left by the captain of the gaurd. It looks like there was more going on than we thought. Here is what the note said"
quote:
Sergeant Dugwin, With Celus Larlben's death and charges of treason against him, we can sieze his assets from his widow, and add their funds to the state treasury. This'll help our coffers immensely, perhaps even gaining some independence from financial debt to the Pirate Lord. When the rebels are quelled and Kelden Delcor captured or slain, this'll be our next task. ~ Ulin Morris, Captain of the Guard.
I let out a slight sigh of frustration. I look walk back over to the pile of loot while a smirk starts to form. I look back towards the group and quite proudly, "Now, what are we to do with all this loot?"

Re: Combat: Post Combat

I speak to the group as they return, "Was there any other documents at all of importance that we need to be aware of? Did you find anything else? Are you sure you retrieved all the loot and all the information of importance? Aidon, did you or the other men find any thing else of importance?"

I encourage Adwonus to speak of what he wanted to tell us, what was so important, one last time.
"Alright, Adwonus, if you wish to say anything more, please do. Do not keep truth to yourself that would help save lives. Do not let the blood of those people be on your hands. Tell us what you are sure we needed to hear. Keeping it to yourself may only make things worse. Is it best to not even try and tell us? Even if we choose to not act upon your words, at least you did your part and your conscience is clear. Please, make a closing statement."

I turn and speak to Aidon a moment.
"Aidon, if you wish to release Adwonus, that is in your power. It is also, however, your responsibility (in part) what those actions cause. By releasing Adwonus, would he attempt to attack Kelden? Would he try to undermine your actions? Would he fight the pirates? Would he attempt to attack the heart of the matter? Who is to say? In a sense for good or evil, you may share a responsibility in his actions, realize that. Please, choose wisely what you will do."

I turn and speak to Adwonus on last time in this conversation.
"Adwonus, I would pray that you truly do what is best for this this nation, what is best to eliminate the pirate threat. This revolution is not your threat, it is the pirates. You may already realize that, and you may be bent on doing whatever Steyus bidding entails. I do not know your heart, only God does. Please consider your actions and their repercussions wisely."

I speak to all those around me.
"This matter is no longer in my hands. Now, it is time. We must attend to more pressing matters."

I turn to Lady Jaqueline and speak.
"Lady Jacqueline, lets go, come out of that cell and get your things. Aidon gave you the OK to leave. Time is advancing while we speak. Someone get this woman her things! Aidon, released her, she is one of us!"

I turn and speak to the group. "Alright! Mikael, Dwalin, Taisiya, Lady Jacqueline, gather your things. It is time for us to go. We can split up the loot evenly later, if one of you needs better armour, now is the time to upgrade. We will figure it out on the way. Bring it to the north tower, we will plan there. LET US WASTE NO TIME!"

[Private to DM Ryan; Mikael Vaeltaja:
"Mikael, would you be willing to go with us to search for Kelden? I could use a man like you to help in this most important task.

Aidon, I request permission to bring Mikael along on our search for Kelden. I remind you of the utmost importance that we find Kelden ASAP. If you cannot spare a horse, then perhaps a man? Mikael and Lady Jacqueline and I have worked together before in intense situations and combat, furthering the cause of good. We are a good team.
"
]

[Private to DM Ryan; Dwalin Grayhammer; Lady Jacqueline Raynelde; Mikael Vaeltaja; Taisiya Northwood:
I speak to Aidon aside, a moment before we go to the north tower. "Aidon, what would you like us to take to Kelden and tell him when we find him? Shall we give him those 2 pieces of paper you found? Was there any other information found that we should be aware of before we depart?"
]

I take Lady Jaqueline aside to speak.
[Private to Lady Jacqueline Raynelde: I take Lady Jacqueline to the north tower first floor and speak to her quietly aside from everyone. "Lady Jacqueline, I think we are the only ones who could find Kelden at a time like this. We have the map, I do not know who we can trust, we must use it to find his base. I am not sure if it is in the sewers. I am willing to let the rest of our party in on the map if you think it will help, but this information should be kept secret where possible. If they are fully committed to the cause I think we can show them, but we must make sure no one is looking over their shoulder. If the location of his base is already known, perhaps it is past due when we let our friends see the map. I am glad we did not show them earlier, lest Adwonus would have seen it."]

Lady Jacqueline nods. "Thank you, Johannes." She steps around Aidon and takes in the air from outside the musty cell, following Johannes. "Whew... Just sit tight a sec, Adwonus.." Being locked up isn't something she does well with.

[Private to Herr Johannes: She listens carefully as Johannes speaks and nods cautiously, and answers quietly, "I agree. We should try to find our way to him first to alert him." She sighs a little shakily, uncertain of whom she may trust around them. "I fear a lot of things, but I feel at peace following you, knowing that we're on the same page." A small smile escapes her-- a small ray of hope-- and then quickly hides as her attention is gripped by Adwonus.]

"He says he still owes Steyus for his life, that there's a proposition he wants to make with Steyus. And Adwonus also says that Steyus is funding an expedition to get to the heart of the pirates and see if we can throw a wrench in their puppeting system. I fear what he means by that." She pauses a moment, and continues. "He's basically on the same page as we are with getting to the heart of the pirates and stopping their scheme. But where he doesn't quite fit is who should have control. He's said that he won't kill Kelden, but he's also not someone who likes where Herrod currently stands." Her arms fold over her chest. "I feel like Steyus could give him the word to kill him, and that'd be that."]

Lady Jacqueline goes and retrieves her belongings.

Re: Combat: Post Combat

Aidon stood in the doorway facing his two prisoners. Aidon was a leader, in charge of an outpost and accustomed to dealing with others, and they had a fierce conversation {See Channel 4}. When everything was said, Aidon spoke, "Jacqueline right?" Lady Jacqueline felt anxious, anticipating he'd made a decision. "You can come out." She was both shocked and relieved, for it'd been a long time since she had dealt with someone rational. "As for you half-orc, Adwonus I believe. . ." he continued to say. "I believe that you're deluded – that's for certain. But, I'm not in the habit of locking people up simply cause they don't agree with me. I don't think you're a threat; in fact, I think you're more likely to get yourself killed in a barfight soon, but that's your business. You may leave, but don't think I'm handing you any weapons while you're in here. I'll give them to your dwarven friend – he can give them to you when you're outside." Adwonus walked out amongst the others, giving Herr Johannes a rather unappreciative glare. "And there's one more thing. Something you mentioned. . ."

Marcus leaned toward Jacqueline and whispered, "I need to leave. I heard the note the elf brought in, and I must be there to protect mother. But also-" "You mentioned Larlben's son, Marcus. . ." Aidon turned. ". . .I'm endangering you right now. Don't worry about me sister." Marcus took a step back. Aidon's eyes went wide, and he pointed at him, shouting to nearby rebels, "Men! Seize that one!" Marcus bolted out the tower door to the parapet with men close on his heels, dashing through his fellow party members. A rope was tied around the battlements, the very same Darus had used. Nearly leaping over the side, Marcus grabbed the rope and slid down to the gates below. Rebels leaned over the battlements attempting to grab hold of him as he dropped, but they were a moment too late. Aidon called out, "Get these gates closed for goodness sake!" Men in the North Tower hastily began operating the crank, and the iron portcullis slammed shut. But to Marcus' relief, he was on the western side, exactly where he wanted to be. Sprinting down the street, he escaped.

"Damnit," muttered Aidon, who'd run onto the parapet. The party followed, watching Marcus disappear around a far corner. "Now that was a hostage we could've used." He faced the rest of the party, "No one save the half-orc mentioned you had a Larlben among your number, and I'm quite certain you knew. Though I should've recognized him," he said in spite of himself. "The black hair and beard. Gods I must be blind." He glanced from Johannes to Dwalin, from Taisiya to Jacqueline, lingering on Adwonus a bit. "Gods, I don't know what to make of any of you. I want you to leave, and now. If you're true supporters of our cause and can warn Kelden Delcor of the impending assault, please do so before dawn tomorrow, and you'll have both my trust and thanks {Quest Received: Warning of the Dawn}. But for now, I'd rather not have you in this guardpost a second longer." Johannes hastily spoke, "Wait, I request your permission to bring Mikael along on our search for Kelden. Is this possible?" Aidon looked at Mikael, "Is this what you want my friend?" The elf nodded. "Very well, you may go. Take this note." He handed Mikael the letter of the imminent attack on Kelden's secret base. "If you find Kelden, give this to him. And goodluck. Now, it's time for you all to leave." Suddenly, a voice shouted up from the gates below, "And why in the blazes is this gate closed?!"

Aidon and the party leaned over the eastern side. At the base was a long haired man, thin and somewhat gangling. He was dressed as a priest, and an odd one at that. "Hello? Open up!" He waved a walking stick toward the onlookers before banging it on the iron portcullis. [Private to Herr Johannes; Lady Jacqueline Raynelde: Johannes and Jacqueline slipped into the North Tower and discussed both Adwonus and their map. Unseen, they rejoined the party.]

[Private to Marcus Larlben: Marcus panted, nearly out of breath. "Well that was close." Satisfied they weren't going to following him, he slowed to a fast walk. The city was holed up now, people staying in their homes. A few people wandered in the streets here and here, but most were staying clear, fearful of the violence. Larlben Manor was not far off. Suddenly, a nearby shop window broke. Two men stepped out of it, carrying a nice rug and a few bits of jewelry - looters. They noticed Marcus, "Hey, looky here." Marcus stood, hand slowly moving toward the hilt of his sword. One stepped in front of Marcus while the other slowly moved behind, cutting off a decent escape. The one in front was ugly, young with a flat nose. He said, "Hand over all your coin bud. Sword too. And the boots." Setting down their loot, the one in front pulled out a club. Behind, the other toyed with a dagger in his hand.

Re: Combat: Post Combat

one of the men lean over the edge, shouting "Who goes there?" The long haired man looks up to meet the gaze of the group atop the wall, long hair moving past his face to reveal a young man. no more than in his twenties, and hunched upon his walking stick due to his long traveling.

"Just a simple priest and doctor sir" he says, pointing his stick through the bars of the gate. A brown cloak covers most of his body, making him seem nonthreatening and at the same time, perhaps something to be afraid of? What else was under that time-scarred cloak of his.. hunched over from fatigue, weary from his travels, and simply hoping to get though to the next town as soon as possible for food and much needed rest. "I haven't gone this direction yet, simply seeing if anyone may be in need of a man of my services" Taking a step back, standing up straight with arms on his hips in a rather cocky stance, "And last I heard, this gate was public travel, not private. So I ask again, why the blazes is this gate closed?"

The men look at one another, questioning his authenticity..

Re: Combat: Post Combat

Lady Jacqueline cast Johannes a side-glance. [Private to Herr Johannes: And as the banter was happening, she leaned and whispered, "You think we should take our leave, now? And take someone along with us?" A hand swiftly gestured to the elf standing with them. She pursed her lips and furrowed her brow. "I worry about mother..."] Seeing Marcus go and now yet another new fellow joining the desperate cause of trying to end the regime of the pirates and whatever strings they may have. The day had been full, indeed.

[P.M.]

[Private to GM: Marcus looked checked his surroundings, and quickly decided that he had no good option but to keep moving forward. He drew his blade, stepped up to the one in front of him and without a hint of hesitation swung to cut him down.

(Not sure which one the the 'one in front' but I'll do a five-foot step if need be.)

Re: Combat: Post Combat

I stand tall and straight as I look down to the gate and glance at the priest. Without saying anything I cross my arms and take a few steps back to be out of the sight of this peculiar man. I ask those around me in a cocky tone, "Who is this guy? Is he really so oblivious to his surroundings that he cannot see why the gate would be closed?" Putting my arms by my side I say more genuinely, "Anyone know who this guy is though? He's says he is a doctor and if we are going to search for Kelden we may be in need of his ability. We're not the only ones looking for him, and others may have more... violent, intentions. We could use any friendly help we can get if he is with us."

[Private to Herr Johannes: With a slight nod, "After everything we went through last time saving that merchant's girl, I would not mind having a doctor among us if we find the odds stacked against us once again."]

Re: Combat: Post Combat

"No, look.." Jacqueline points. "Although he's rugged, he kind of looks like--" Peering over the edge before turning back to Mikael, she shrugs. "I thought he may look a little like a cleric."
