Re: Chit Chat

In reply to Vasuvik (msg # 10):

We will stick to the book for all character creation and then talk about any house rules. You can leave room for mods. just in case but until we get though the house creation we will be treading slowly for today on sheets.

Right now each should try to focus on the concepts of the characters so we have a well round group or groups.

Re: Chit Chat

We currently have 8 players so I have stopped the request for players and will be working with the current group.

If anyone drops then I will fill in the blanks.

As of now this will be the only group.

Re: Chit Chat

Vasuvik:
Questions: the character sheet Rosslington submitted for the 2nd post in the Character Creation thread, it lists 5 Qualities (and yes there are 3 Drawbacks as well, so +2 Drawbacks beyond the required 1 Drawback for an Adult).

Will we be allowed to start with more than 3 Qualities, assuming we take additional Drawbacks (to earn the Destiny Points needed to pay for the extra Qualities)?

Also, are we only allowed to lower 1 Ability to rank 1?

Okay, I'm currently working on the mechanics side of things today so that has not all yet been decided. If you can, download and use the character generation spreadsheet from Green Ronin games. It will allow you to easily allocate relevant experience.

A few notes on character creation (haven't been finalized yet.
Note 1: Players must first buy thier status as relevent to their standing. This is based on their position in the House. For example if a powerful minor House: The Lord has Status 6, his heir has status 5, second heir status 4 all other children status 3. Retainers would also have status 3 and commoners would have status 2. In Dorne bastards are not received as badly as in other parts so would have a status of 3 not 2.

Note 2: You may reduce ONE ability to 1 for the extra 50 exp. This MUST be worked into your backstory. There is an option to reduce a second ability to 1 but only with my prior consent so that it doesn't leave your character gimped.

Note 3: At character creation you may take up to an additional 3 drawbacks to gain 3 additional destiny points. You my invest these in qualities at the start of the game if you like but I recommend holding on to at least 1 at all times so you can pull it out to avoid a grisly death!

Note 4: No single ability may start higher than 5 without express permission. You have the whole game to train it up past there but it may severely gimp your character early on to start with it.

Note 5: You should attempt to spread your specialties out if you can. More than 2 or 3 additional bonus dice on a specialty begin to produce diminishing improvements on results.

Note 6: Languages are HARD. This is a period in time when literacy in your own language was a big deal. If you want to learn other languages you need to invest in them. There is a reason for qualities such as Polyglot.

Note 7: There are currently no rules to back up magic as the game was set in a time where it didn't exist anymore in Westeros. Caladin and I may build some homebrew rules for this if it fits the setting, though given the last magic died in Westeros when Aegon III killed his last dragon I think it will be unlikely that player characters will use magic.

Re: Chit Chat

If there is a specific format of character sheet you want us to use that can not be posted in the RPOL character details field can you include a link to it in the character creation thread?

There is an example character sheet format here link to a message in this game

I believe Calidan was working on a html version but we'll see how we go.

Once we have finalized who will play what character and what their names are etc we will open up your character sheets under the Character Details menu.

If you have locked in your idea for your character already feel free to start building using the character generator spreadsheet provided on the Green Ronin website and let us know what name you want.

For the moment you can assume the following statuses will apply unless we bump influence up enough (+8) to change them. Actually it looks like all of you will have Status 3 unless you aren't a house retainer.

If we did bump up influence the First-born daughter would have influence 4 as the only change. Hmm. Given that we don't have a player heir I will talk to Calidan to see if we can bump things up or not depending on his plans for the heir.

I know there is a sheet on the thread I was thinking you could provide a link to the character generator spreadsheet you mentioned yet again without a link.

Re: Chit Chat

So I have a busy day today and will be in and out. I will be around tonight.

Was thinking I would like to keep track of the time zone for everyone so we have an idea when players will be around to post.

for example: I'm on the east coast (NYC) and check in the morning to read up on the game bwt 7am and 9am. I normally reply in the evenings after 5pm and done by 11pm depending if I'm traveling. When I travel it's usually the weekends. I'm sometimes around on Saturday. Sundays I'm home normally late evening for posting. My GMT is -5

The above is not a requirement, but right now I'm on vacation and I'm hme packing and getting ready for a move. I start a new job in about 2 weeks. So the above is my normal for posting.

If you want to keep this info private just send a PM if you want everyone to know for faster play just post this in Chit Chat.

Re: Chit Chat

I work part time, and on any of three 8 hour shifts on any given week/day so I do not really have anything like a schedule, but I will rarely be offline for more than 9 hours at any given point so that tends to be irrelevant in the forum game format.

Are we holding onto the 'you must spend half your starting cash' rule? Because, given the lack of boats, I'm going to have to buy, like, 600 dogs.

you have 12 dragons from your roll, I am assuming you want armor a weapon and a horse.
12 dragons is 2520 silver stags. Dragon --> Stag x 210, Stag to penny --> x 56

If you bought ring armor (600ss), a long sword (400ss) a sand steed if you want a Dorne specific horse (1200ss) you're easily going to be able to spend the 6 dragons (1260ss) you would need to. You also have to buy knickknacks like your clothes etc.

Just a reminder that for everyone your starting gold would be your [status]d6s not automatically 3.

Re: Chit Chat

A note for everyone:

Because rolling 1s and 6s is important, whenever you roll a test you need to make sure the Record Each Die box is ticked.

Here is an example:

14:41, Today: Rosslington rolled 35 using 10d6, dropping the 3 lowest rolls with rolls of 6,3,2,1,5,4,6,3,6,5. Example Roll.

Because there are three 6s, if this were a critical hit (twice or more opponent's Defense) the opponent would take an extra injury in addition to normal damage.

Re: Chit Chat

Some of you will be happy to know that I found some errata on Defenses:
errata:
Defense Holdings Example (Revision); SIFRP, Page 102
The benefits to Defense listed under each entry are incorrect. They should apply the following bonuses to Defense:

Superior Castle +12
Castle +8
Small Castle +6
Hall +4
Tower +3

So yay!

Re: Chit Chat

I posted a timeline that should cover from the birth of the current players to current day - start date for PC will be Year 169 after Aegon's Landing

I will be adding more info to the timeline as we go to fill in the known history and current story telling that is most prevalent for the PCs
