Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

In reply to Ser Godfrey Ravenhowe (msg # 192):

quote:
"My Lord Perros, regarding my earlier suggestion of mounting an armed "investigative team" to seek out the site of the supposed ambush & battle spoken of by the Red Priests... do I, or rather do we have your permission to do so come the morning light?

"Yes gather who you feel best for the task and head out well before our guest awaken"

quote:
If so, I would be grateful if you could assign some members of House Kolwyn to accompany us.  If we do find something out there, or discover something "amiss", I would prefer that there be a party to the discovery, an impartial witness if you will, who does not pledge direct fealty to House Ravenhowe.  It will be harder to dismiss findings that are made by members of multiple noble Houses, I would think."

"I agree, ... request from House Kaldor that at least one if possible attend as well. This way all three houses will be present to the findings."

"If any."

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

In reply to Jadis Sand (msg # 191):

Isa makes a yelp "Brother! ..." and her eyes rolls back as she stumbles.

Ariel like lightening grabs her sister before she hits the floor. "I have you sister, ..." As he looks at her eyes and posses for a moment then he looks back at Jadis, as if he blames her for his sisters condition.

Isa quickly regains herself as her brother helps her back to her feet.

She smiles "How surprising, .... The travel must have taken a greater toll then I originally thought." Ariel just keeps a look at Jadis. He positions himself between Isa and Jadis as if protecting her.

Isa speaking to Ariel and those standing by them "Brother let us sit over there by the window so I may have some air. Please excuse us." Ariel helps his sister as they walk away.

Jadis simply raises an eyebrow, still smiling. "Of course, of course. Your comfort is, most certainly, something with which we are gravely concerned. I pray that you feel better, so that we might have tea tonight." She dismisses the red twins and looks back at Ashara, murmuring quietly and with a wicked smile "Well, that went well do you think?"

"Oh, my!" Ashara exclaims when Isa collapses. "Are you all right? Should I call the maester?" shes asks, concerned.
Whe Isa says the trip must have taken more out of her, Ashara reponses "Would you like to lie down? I can show you to your room, if you like." When Isa leaves, Ashara simply says "I hope you feel better soon."
When they leave, Ashara wiggles out of her mother's grip and moves over to Jadis, whispering to her.

Jadis gives a soft whistle and Brutus comes trotting over to them. She rubs his head absently as she whispered back to Ashara

After a bit of whispering, Jadis gives Ashara a questioning look.

Ahsara nods to the twins. "Oh, I'm happy to hear it" she says when they say that Isa will be fine. I wonder why Ariel is so angry, I'm only trying to help.
She gives her mother a kiss on the cheek. "I'll be good, mother."

Ashara listens intently to Jadis, and her eyes go wide with surprise. She whispers urgently to her sister.
She shakes her head.

Ashara gives Brutus a pat on the head.

Ser Godfrey leaned in towards Ser Hassan and spoke softly.

Ser Godfrey smiled at his brother as he said in a calm but concerned tone, "Perhaps I should go inquire of our new guests if they are in need of anything, assistance or aid?  Mistress Isa does appear to be unwell and her brother Master Ariel seems rather out of sorts, though if his sister is ill that might explain it."

Ser Godfrey began to move away from the incoming group of men from the courtyard as if making to join the Red Priests but lingering just long enough in case someone (such as his brother Hassan or Lord Kolwyn) might object or have an alternative suggestion.

Hassan adjusted his robes looking out over the crowd of people, he knew what it meant to be compassionate, but seeing the body language displayed by Jadis made him sigh. It seemed his brother-in-law needed to put his adopted bastard in line before she caused all of Dorne to be at war, the silly girl. "Godfrey, make sure you have a word with that bastard, she meddles in affairs she doesn't understand," he said to his brother. Seeing the serious expression grow over his face, his wife touched his arm gently before guiding him toward the main floor, the two along with a few of the others began a small dance to the music, while Hassan kept his eyes on others, it seemed how ever his wife was not satisfied with that and took his concentration from the guests.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Oh great... I get to play "nursemaid" to the wild Jadis Sand... somehow I doubt that is going to work out well.

Trying his best to keep a neutral expression on his face, Ser Godfrey bowed his head to his brother and said in a resigned tone, "Of course Ser Hassan, I shall endeavor to carry out your instructions."

As Hassan was led away to dance with his wife, Ser Godfrey moved towards where Jadis and Ashara were conversing in whispers, all the while Godfrey kept the Red Priest siblings' movement & actions within his peripheral view out of the corner of his eye.

As he approached the two ladies, Ser Godfrey smiled warmly at them and said in a soft, friendly tone, "Pardon me lady Ashara, lady Jadis, I do hope I am not intruding... or at least, if I am, that I shall be forgiven for doing so.

I could not help but notice that Mistress Isa appears to be unwell all of a sudden and that her brother Master Ariel is... well... less than festive in his mood.  Since both were in reasonably good, or at least civil, spirits when we parted company only a few moments ago out in the courtyard... I was wondering if perhaps either of you could enlighten me as to what has just happened to cause this possible scene of discord or discomfort?

Is Mistress Isa ill?  Does she require the aid of Maester Archibald, perhaps?  And where is Master Ariel currently leading his sister, have they been assigned guest rooms already?"

Jadis looks up at Godfrey and smiles brightly. With complete sincerity, she says quietly"Oh. They're just evil mind reading sorcerers trying to steal our thoughts. Isa merely over exerted herself. I'm sure she'll be fine. As for where they're going? We're pretty sure they're plotting to kidnap Ashara and probably burn her on one of their pyres, so I guess the duo are getting ready for that. Now if you'll please excuse us, good Ser, we were having a conversation." She turns her back to him, dismissing him from her attention, and whispers something to Ashara.

Suddenly, she snaps her fingers and looks up, staring at Godfrey with a bright smile. "Oh. Hey, you can be useful. Want to sleep in Ashara's bed tonight? That way you'll be the one kidnapped and everything will be fine."

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Ser Godfrey rolled his eyes and said in a bored tone, "Very nice story Jadis... it reminds me of the "pirate treasure" you were looking for when you were younger, I believe lady Ashara mentioned that tale earlier today.

Now perhaps either you... or more likely lady Ashara can actually provide a serious answer to my question.

And as for your "conversation", you might want to either tone it down or take it outside the main hall... as you're both starting to attract "attention", and likely not the sort of attention either of you desire."

Ser Godfrey adopted a cryptic smile as he added in a slightly ominous tone, "After all Jadis... the only way you would be able to know any of that would be if either: a) the Red Priests trusted you sufficiently to confide in you or b) you yourself were an "evil mind reading sorceress trying to steal their thoughts".

So unless you're either a traitorous confederate of the Red Priests or are a not-so-secret-now Sorceress yourself... you couldn't really know any of what you just told me.

However, if other less broadminded and tolerant people were to overhear you Jadis, you might cause a lot of unrest and perhaps bring real trouble down on House Kolwyn with such tales.  Especially given that we have not only members of House Amaranth Dawn as guests but also members of House Kaldor present as guests as well.

Still... if you're dead set on your wild tale... why don't you inform Lord Kolwyn, since it pertains to his daughter's safety... see what his lordship makes of your story, eh?"

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Ashara fiddles with her skirt, a nervous habit of hers.
Ashara shivers and casts a look at Ariel

Ashara smiles when Ser Godfrey walks over to them; she's noticed the dancing has started, and assumes he's going to ask her to dance. She's a little surprised Mardax wasn't first. She returns his warm smile with a playful smile of her own. "Hello, Ser Godfrey. You are forgiven, a handsome knight such as yourself is always a welcome presence."

Ashara's smile falls slightly when she realizes Godfrey isn't here to talk about dancing. She leans towards him and responds quietly "I'm not sure why the red twins are so hostile. Isa fainted earlier, she says from the stress of the trip.
My lady mother and I were completely polite. My sister was... well, being herself, but she said nothing at which the twins should have taken offense.
I offered to show them to their rooms and volunteered the aid of Maester Archibald when Isa fainted, but they refused, saying that wasn't necessary. Ariel seems quite angry with me, utterly without cause."

Her voice dropped to a whisper "But I suspect, Ser Godfrey, that whatever the red twins have told my lord father to convince him to let them in, they are still our house's enemies. I don't know why they have come here, but I don't trust them, and they worry me. What did they say to my father?" She keeps her face neutral during Jadis's response to Ser Godfrey.

Ashara nodded in response to Jadis' whisper. "Yes, thank you"

Ashara could be quite a flirt, but she still blushed brightly at Jadis' question to Ser Godfrey. "Jadis!" she squeaked, embarrassed at the implication of asking Ser Godfrey to hop into her bed.

"We gossip all the time, Ser Godfrey, I don't think we'll attract too much attention"
Ashara explained. She frowned at Ser Godfrey. "If you are going to deal seriously with all my sister's jokes, we are going to be here a long time.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Ser Godfrey gave Ashara a warm, friendly smile as he said in a cordial tone, "I thank you for the kindness of your forgiveness Lady Ashara, it is always a pleasure to be in the company of so fine and beautiful a young lady as yourself."

Ser Godfrey lowered his tone as he continued, "As for the Red Priests, you may rest assured that while the Guest Right has been extended to them due to the demands of courtesy and hospitality, neither your father Lord Perros nor we Ravenhowes truly believe that the tense hostility attributed to House Amaranth Dawn and to the Red Priest Twins in particular is really in the past, neither forgotten nor forgiven.

However, given a recent development, it was deemed "politic" to extend the Guest Right to the Red Priests for the moment... though they shall be bound to the rules as much as we shall.

But worry not, as yet there is no real "Trust" established between us & them and their admittance into our company & into Kolwyn Hold should not be misjudged as an open embrace of them or their views."

Ser Godfrey paused before he added in a wary tone, "As for your gossiping with lady Jadis, it may be regarded as normal and harmless under most normal circumstances... but right now, tonight, is not one of those "normal circumstances".

We have guests from not one but two visiting Houses, Amaranth Dawn and House Kaldor.  They do not know the closeness shared between you can your cousin and for gossiping it has appeared a mite more "animated" than usual.  I am only passing on a warning that others have taken note, whether or not such note taking is truly warranted.

But when others take note, rumor begins to form.

As for taking lady Jadis's "jokes" seriously... I assure you that I do not.  But I may not be the only one to overhear them.  If another, who is less immune to lady Jadis's unique brand of humor, were to overhear such a wild tale and then turn that wild tale into malicious rumor that spreads throughout the court, reaching the ears of friend & foe alike... there could be real and serious consequences to be dealt with.

It is one thing to jest in the presence of close, trusted friends and family... another to make similar "scandalous jests" where they may be overheard and misinterpreted by strangers who bear neither loyalty to nor love for House Kolwyn.  Surely someone with such a bright mind as your ladyship must realize the danger in that Lady Ashara?"

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Jadis shakes her head in mock grief. "Did you get stabbed in your sense of humor, Goddie?" She rolls her eyes and smirks, leaning over to briefly whisper to Ashara. Turning back to Godfrey, she laughs deep and from the belly and speaks, letting the music cover her words "And trouble? Ask around, Goddie. Everyone will tell you I'm barking mad. Especially the servants. I howl at the moon and eat bugs, or so I hear. I'm also told I dance naked with the Stranger in the pale moonlight every full moon or something like that." She snorts a bit of laughter. "Its ever so nice to be insane, so few ever ask you to explain. And as a bonus, the fool can say what the wise can merely think."

Jadis tugs on her scarf idly, still smiling. When she speaks, her voice is pitched under the loud music of the minstrels "It works on certain principles of headology, which I just invented. A lunatic can tell the Seven's own truth about the most awful of things and just be dismissed with a laugh. Especially if its told in a particularly outlandish fashion. She moves to place her arm around his shoulders, waving her other hand at the hall. "If our Lord said such things, it would be war. When I say such things? Tis a joke on me and the cattle relaxes. After all, if the pet idiot speaks ill of someone, it must be the madness. And it's fun to laugh at mad people. I should know, I laugh at myself every day. Anyways, the lords and ladies will smirk and titter and feel at ease. The wise, the ones worth talking to, might take note. Or they may dismiss me entirely. What difference does it make to me? One of the joys of having zero official credibility and having 'being clothed in public' as my only responsibility." She gives him a huge grin and adds "I'm already composing a ballad about Lord Kaldor and a goat. Should I throw in a few stanzas about a blind Septon marrying them?"

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

With her typical good natured free spirit, it was difficult to stay annoyed or even mildly perturbed at Jadis no matter how wild she got.  With a growing smile to break the tension, Ser Godfrey replied with an exaggerated sigh but in a friendly tone, "Jadis you know that under normal circumstances I love your free spirited nature, your irreverent honesty can often be a breath of fresh air in certain stale situations.

And I am usually the last person to judge another on how they live their life or indulge their freedom.

That said... the tense & serious situation between House Kolwyn, House Ravenhowe, and House Amaranth Dawn is such that I find it hard to relax and allow myself to indulge in my usual preference for frivolous amusement.

Besides... my brother "instructed" me to have a "word" with you Jadis... so I was at least partially honor bound to convey the misgivings of my liege, the Knight of Raven's Roost.  That said, given the very tenuous & tentative "peace" established between House Amaranth Dawn and House Kolwyn & House Ravenhowe, I do understand Ser Hassan's concerns."

Ser Godfrey paused before he added in a concerned tone, "Besides... you have to remember Jadis that not everyone, especially those from outside our respective families, knows of your... "reputation" for madness.  And even those who do may choose to ignore it for their own purposes so as to use your "wild, untamed words" as malignant weapons to be wielded against the honor & reputation of House Kolwyn."

But the warm smile returned as he said in the earlier friendly tone, "That said... I shall look forward to hearing that ballad about Master Mardax and that goat, it sounds saucy as well as sassy.  Though something tells me that the young lord from House Kaldor may not see the humor in it or appreciate your particular witty turn of phrase."

Ser Godfrey looked over at his brother dancing with his wife and then looked around at the others still sitting at their tables, include Mardax Kaldor, and then finally glanced back at Ashara and Jadis as he said in a perplexed tone, "But speaking of Master Mardax and amusements... how is it that the band can be playing such a delightful tune that practically demands that one step lightly into dance but that you two beautiful blossoming flowers of fine Dornish womanhood are as yet unaccompanied?

It should be a travesty if not a crime that you ladies should continue to go unasked to dance.

If you ladies are amenable, I shall gladly rectify this grievous oversight... but alas there is only one of me but two of you, how can I possibly choose between you?  Perhaps I should encourage Master Mardax to summon his courage and step forth to ask for a dance, with him as honored guest being given first choice between you lovely ladies?"

Jadis nods her head "You make a fair point, Ser. I shall endeavor to reign in my tongue until such time as is proper." A wild, mischievous smile crosses her face. "A dance? Yes, let us dance. Can you convince Lord Kaldor to join us? Do be vague about his partner though." She snickers faintly. "It would be hilarious for you to dance with my fair sister and for me to dance with the Lord. Ser Godfrey chuckled slightly as he said in a relaxed tone, "Well I can but try, especially at the request of a lady... though I can make no guarantees as to whether Master Mardax shall join us or whom he will choose as his dance partner.

His opinion of you, eh Jadis?  Have you been ingratiating yourself into his good graces during his brief stay thus far?  Or... do I really not want to know the truth of that?"

Ser Godfrey bowed his head to both Jadis and Ashara as he said, "By your leaves my Lady Ashara, lady Jadis... I will go inquire of Master Mardax as to whether he is inclined to ask one of you lovely ladies for a dance.  Either way, I shall certainly return and make myself available for dancing.

Tension and surprise guests or not... I do not intend to have my celebration of the Harvest Festival stymied."

Ser Godfrey began to take a step or two towards Mardax but lingered long enough to give Ashara or Jadis a final word before he departed their company.

Ashara smiled at Ser Godfrey's compliments. She nodded at Ser Godfrey when he explained what happened."Of course, my father knows what he's doing. And, I'll be careful what I say in public. I won't let my Houses' reputation damaged, especially wrongly."

Ashara giggles when Jadis whispers to her.
"Jadis, you shouldn't let people think such things about you. If you payed more attention to courtesy and etiquette you could have everyone in this hall wrapped around your finger" she said encouragingly when Jadis said she let people think of her as a bit crazy. She blushed when Jadis mentioned her ballad about Lord Kaldor and a goat. "I've composed poems about handsome visiting nobles before, but never one quite like that."
"Free spirit is an excellent description of  my beloved sister. Though, free and occasionally frustrating description would be better" she responded to Ser Gofrey. "My uncle is always looking out for us, I do appreciate it. Tell him Jadis and I will do our best to stay out of trouble."

"Why, thank you, Ser Godfrey. I do adore dancing. I would be more than pleased to dance with either you or lord Mardax" Ashara said with a bright smile.
"I'm not sure we haven't been asked yet, perhaps the men in the hall were intimidated by such a concentration of beauty" she joked.
