Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

It is "The Time of Harvest" and House Kolwyn, Ravenhowe, and Kaldor traditionally have a banquet feast in honor of The Seven to thank the gods for being so  gracious in providing a strong harvest season.

Each year the three houses come together and one house agrees to host the feast and this years it is being held at Kolwyn Hold.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Having spent most of the early morning traipsing through the scrub in the hills hunting, Makarios leads his hunting party back towards Kolwyn Hold. They had made out rather well, having bagged a large number of rabbits and fowl. Unfortunately pork and venison wouldn't be on the menu today but all would be well fed.

OOC: Anyone who wanted to be on the hunt with me is well and truly welcome to have come along.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Despite having not a single culinary bone in his aging body Maester Archibald has never had trouble finding a way to help make the cook's life easier, or generate an excuse to stop by the kitchens for a snack.  For the upcoming feast that assistance takes the form of collecting, drying, and grinding significant quantities of the required spices and herbs to fulfill the requirements of the dishes being prepared for the celebration.

Personally delivering each batch of ground herbs to the kitchen has also kept Maester Archibald fully up to date on the progress of said dishes cooking, and perhaps to intimately familiar with how they are turning out.

The latest trip results in his sitting down to sample some one such dish just as Makarios arrives with the catch of the day, the disruption caused by the kitchen staff whirling around him is ignored in favor of a more focused appreciation of the delightful food.

Jadis follows along behind Makarios, hunting bow slung over one shoulder and her hound trailing at her heels. She adjusts her hat to better block the sun. "You know, I really think we should try another sweep for a deer or something. The bastards have to be here somewhere." She rubs Brutus' head "Right Brutus?" The dog snorts in seeming agreement.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Ashara passed through the kitchen, unobtrusively checking on the progress of the cooking. Her appearance was strictly correct without a hair out of place. "Maester Archibald, hello!" she said with a smile when she saw the house Maester. "Do you know if the hunting party has returned yet? We are about to have guests, my sister should be here to greet them with me..." she said, sounding a touch nervous. She was excited, but wanted everything to go right, lest House Kolwyn be embarrassed in front of their neighboring Houses.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

"Haha, oh they're out there alright m'lady. I'll probably duck out again later on tonight when nobody is looking and see if they're out and about."

Makarios grins widely at Jadis before remembering his place. While the woman seemed to share a lot of his interests, Makarios knew she was off-limits. He had practically grown up with the children of House Kolwyn given his position, belonging to his father before him.

"I'll try to give you some signal when I'm leaving if you like. Brutus is a good hunting dog, I just wish I could train one to be useful. I think it's their eyes that do it to me, especially when they're pups."

They would soon be arriving at the kitchens. He dismounts and calls for a stable boy to take their horses while he pulls the game bags from it's flanks and hefting them over his shoulders. "Be sure to Water them and feed them before you brush them down Reginald."

He looks to Jadis, "Will you be joining me in my trip to the kitchens m'lady? The smell of spices is making my mouth water."

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

The kicking up of sand and dust could be seen on the horizon as the all too familiar  dark banner of the Knightly Order of House Ravenhowe could be seen flapping in the desert wing. Their armor shined in the morning sun, as they made their approach. Reaching the gates the knight holding the banner called toward the ramparts to be allowed in. Upon gaining entrance their leader Ser Hassan dismounted, he was clad in scale armor which had been plated in copper, as was his horse. Wrapped around his head was a purple cloth which covered all but his eyes to protect himself from the terrible heat of Dorne. Around his body was a light and breezy surcoat with their Coat of arms upon it.

When some of the servants had arrived to aid them with their stabling he looked to one of the many servants, "Inform your Lord of our arrival," walking up toward the horse that had ridden adjacent to him, he offered his hand to his Lady Wife Aislin, aiding her in her dismount. She her self was dressed in an airy dress of lavender and a dark gray, her head was gently wrapped to protect from the heat as well. Smiling at his wife he kissed her modestly, "I'm sure Lady Ashara will be quite excited to receive you." He looked over at the men and one woman who accompanied them. "Roland, see that the horse is groomed, and his barding oiled!" he called out to his own son who had apparently been serving as his squire. It was evident that he did not go easy on his own son. "Once you are done you may join us."

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Jadis gave the man a half smile and rubbed Brutus' head. The dog looked entirely too pleased with himself. "Brutus is special. And he knows it." Brutus, somehow, manages to look smug. "I know what you mean about the puppy eyes. Overcoming THAT was the hardest part of training Brutus. Silly dog got away with murder before I wised up." She gives the dog a little boop on the nose, causing him to sneeze.

She starts towards the kitchens, saying "You know, we're going to ruin our appetites for the feast.. but that is Future Jadis' problem. Ashara will also be Future Jadis' problem when I show up late." She tosses Makarios a wink and adds "You know, if you want a hand training some hunting hounds, I'd be happy to help. Other than annoying the Septon, I'm kind of useless around here. Be nice to help out. And I am definitely up for a hunt later this evening."

In reply to Ashara Kolwyn (msg # 7):

One of the young house maid girls dashes into the kitchen. A young lass of about 8 years with brown hair and tan shin. She stops suddenly correcting her posture and giving a quick lite bow. "Lady Ashara, House Ravenhowe has just arrived, ..." her eyes rise to see her lady's response.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Makarios smiles, "I'd like that, though I don't know how Brutus would take to you giving another dog attention haha. All right, well I'll give you the signal when it's time to go. Probably after the meal. Or before. Hunting on an empty stomach helps me concentra..." He trails off for a second.

"I mean, as m'lady wishes, of course."

He then nudges open the kitchen door with his foot and is immediately swarmed by kitchen hands.

He gives Archibald a nod and smiles at Ashara. "Perhaps Future Jadis won't have to deal with that after all." He says under his breath to Jadis.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

Ashara's eyes go wide in response to the maid's words, and she smiles excitedly. She was very fond of her aunt and uncle. "That will be aunt Aislin and uncle Hassan. I'll go to meet them right away. Please inform my lord father and lady mother, they've arrived." She turns at the sound of the door opening and the kitchen hands moving.
"Jadis, there you are! I've been looking all over for you" she said cheerfully and smiled at her sister. But she gasped when she noticed Jadis' appearance. "Sister, a highborn lady does not greet guests in ratty riding leathers!" she chided Jadis. "Oh dear, House Ravenhowe has already arrived and House Kaldor could be here any moment!" she said, sounding worried. She sighed. "Well, there's no help for it, you're just going to have to be late. You need to get bathed and dressed right away!"
"Makarios, hello. I hope the hunt went well" she said politely to the master of the hunt.

"Oh, I think he might like leading a pa- Oh. Hi Ashara!" Jadis smiled and rubbed her head, embarrassed "We're so late? Sorry sister, we got caught up in the hunt." She shrugged sheepishly. "Erm, am I going to sit at the high table or down at the low table for this one? You know how some people feel about, umm, Sands." Jadis blushes a bit, scrapping one boot uncomfortably against the stone floor.

Re: IC: Celebration of all Celebrations

"By the old gods and the new what the fuck is that smell?" Ronan walks into the kitchen, "Maester what the hell did you let into this kitchen? Haahaa its just the smell of hunters," he quickly walks to Makarios and give a warrior's hand shake. "Looks like you did well - should we have expected more or was the thought of wine ringing in your head to come back with so little"  laughing heartily. When embraced softly spoken "good to have you".

Makarios shakes Ronan's hand firmly, "Well I was thirsty, but it was more the need to bring Jadis back in time so she wouldn't get scolded. It seems I failed m'lady there."

He grins, "You must come with us sometime Ronan. You spend to much time in the training yard, you almost smell like a hunter."

Lord Perros Kolwyn & Lady Tansa Kolwyn Come out to the court yard with Gemia Kolwyn to great House Ravenhowe, Ser Hassan Ravenhowe and the others.
