IC: Wedding Preparations (2)

Now that the house is returning to normal Lady Tansa Kolwyn has now begun the house preparations for the journey ahead to Kings Landing.

As Lord Perros Kolwyn prepares the warriors and guards, he has a lot to think about as he can not leave the castle empty nor can he leave his family unprotected on the road.

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

Ashara rushes about, assisting her mother with the preparations for traveling. "What do you think King's Landing is like, mother? Have you or father ever been there?" she asked curiously

She'd have to watch Gemia and Jadis while they were there, and try to keep them out of trouble. That was much easier said than done, of course

In reply to Ashara Kolwyn (msg # 2):

Lady Tansa is also excited "No daughter I have not but your father has once before. It is an interesting place, many say its quite very beautiful. But for us Dornish the is no greater beauty then the sun over the desert."

"Your father has agreed to let you go but you must stay out of trouble their laws and influence is much different and greater then here and we must tread lightly or make enemies during a time of peace."

"Also Your father has decided that Jadis will come as well, ... Stop, I see your face already, .. just be sure your father is not lead to regret his choices."

"We leave in 4 days so pack your things and ready yourself the trip is long and not an easy one."

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

Ashara nods in agreement with her mother. "If I should ever have to leave Dorne for long, I would miss it terribly." She shares her mother's excitement for the trip.
"I understand, I'll be as courteous and well-behaved as I can. There could be trouble, the war wasn't so very long ago."

Ashara hugs her mother eagerly when she tells her that Jadis will be coming "Oh, thank you, mother! We'll be good!"

She begins to dash off to pack as she's told, but she pauses for a second. "I hope uncle can find something out there in the desert that explains what happened with the Twins. I hate to leave here while they plot against us."

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

Ashara smiled and followed after her mother excitedly. She loved new clothing. “Yes, mother. Thank you!” She shook her head at her mother’s second statement. “We should! But Jadis isn’t here right now. But I’ll be happy to tell her when she gets back” Ashara explained, cheerfully. Jadis could be so pretty if she just paid more attention to how she looked, so Ashara enjoyed helping her sister look good, even if she had to force her to do it.
Hmm… something in indigo, perhaps, to match her Valyrian eyes. Oh, this is going to be fun!

In reply to Ashara Kolwyn (msg # 6):

"Wait you said she is not hear? where is she?"

Lady Tansa rolls her eyes "Wait better you don't tell me I fear she did exactly what she was told not too. I do hope you know that even as Dorneish women & as a noble house it demands we be Dorenish and our responsibility is to the people that we represent. Your sister will need to remember this especially when we travel north. She is a 'Sand' she will have even more to over come."

Ashara knows her mother better, just stating she doesn't want to know means she already does know and is very upset about it.

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

Ashara blushes brightly. "I'm sorry, my lady mother. It's my fault, I should have stopped her" she apologizes, embarrassed. She wasn't usually so formal with her mother, but it fit when she was apologizing.
"I'll remember my responsibilities on the trip, mother, and I promise to behave. I'll watch over Jadis and make sure she doesn't get into trouble" she says, sounding subdued and meek. Ashara was on her best behavior, not wanting her mother to reconsider her decision to bring Ashara and her sister to Kings's Landing and hoping to calm her mother, who she knew was upset. Well, at least she'd do her best to make sure Jadis didn't get into trouble; her sister would probably end up in trouble anyways, but Ashara would do her best to minimize it and protect Jadis.
She looks frustrated when her mother mentioned that Jadis would have challenges to overcome due to her being a bastard. Jadis was like a sister to her, and she hated that Jadis' birth would forever cause her trouble in the Six Kingdoms.

In reply to Ashara Kolwyn (msg # 8):

"No Ashara it is not your fault, Jadis is a young women and needs to make a choice, be a lady or be it free of courts and politics but she thinks she can have the best of both worlds she is sadly mistaken."

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

"Ashara have you given marriage any thought, it is time to think about a husband." As she makes her way throughout the castle and calls for an escort. When one of the house guards returns her call, ... she lets him know her intent, "we will be heading to the village I heard some new silks just come in, I wish to make sure there is some for the house before they are traded away"

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

"Mother! Jadis is just young and adventurous. She'll settle down eventually. I think she just needs a touch of romance"
Ashara follows after her mother, curtsying politely to the guard. "Oh, I've thought quite a bit about it. I'm a bit nervous about leaving home... but I suppose every maiden is, before marriage. It's an exciting time in my life, a time for romance. Is father considering anyone for me?" Ashara said excitedly. At twenty, Ashara was a little surprised to find herself still unmarried. She was happy to see the village before they left, these were her people. "I wonder what the fashions are like in the Six Kingdoms. I guess we'll find out soon."

In reply to Ashara Kolwyn (msg # 11):

"You say A touch of romance, ... she seems to have a few here at home ready to water that need" looking away at the house guard, "Let us know when ready to leave to the village."

Lady Tansa stops turns to face Ashara, gently puts both hands, one on each shoulder. Then firmly but with love holds on to her as she speaks "You do understand that we don't always marry for love, thou some are that lucky many marry for politics." "If I can help you find both I will, but ultimately it will be what is best for the family. You do understand this?"

"Plus you can always take a lover if your unhappy with your fathers choice."

"Has father given any thought to whom Jadis will marry?" Ashara asks, interested.

Ashara smiles at her mother fondly and nods seriously. "I know. I'm ready to do my duty to House Kolwyn. I know you and my father will make the right choice."

Ashara blushes. "Mother!" she giggles. "Let's at least give my future husband a chance before I start looking."

"We'll then let us not waste anymore time and head to the village" Lady Tansa, with help of a guard mounts the wagon. Then the guard helps Ashara as we'll. Two guards are always assigned to Tansa and one to Ashara when not in the safety of the castle.

It's a short trip down the road to the fishing village which houses on stone dock. Most of the merchant ships are to large to sail in and smaller boats are seen in the distance loading goods in and out.

Today several tents have been pitched and wares from the east are on display. One in of which is a silk merchant. Lady Tansa notices him and goes directly to his tent. "I'm looking for shade of gold and red, something new and fit for myself and daughter" as she hold and feels the fabrics.

Ashara notices a young boy no more then 13 years, watching them.

Ashara follows after her mother. She looks around the town as they pass through, smiling at those they meet. It was important for a noblewoman to know the people her family ruled, she thought. She glances curiously amongst the tents, inspecting the wares while waiting for her mother to select something for her to try.

Ashara smiles at the young boy. As a noble, she was used to drawing attention from teh smallfolk "Hello. I don't think I've seen you around before. I'm Lady Ashara Kolwyn, it's nice to meet you" she says to the boy.

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

Gabriel Laurent has returned from patrols on the cost of Kolwyn Hold. The men have headed back to the castle and Gabriel has decided to head to the village and check on the new wears that have just come in.

Standing on the docks Gabriel stares out into the water. After taking in the view turns to see his lady at the market and Ashara talking to a young small folk boy,....

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

The sound of crying gulls filled the harbor, drowning out bustling merchantmen and curious patrons. Lazily the birds hung above a sea as smooth as glass, white wings outstretched as they floated on warm swells of sea air. Every now and again, one would dive low after a fish floating dead in the surf. Beyond, sailcloths floated on the distant horizon: headed to unknown ports.

A quiet day for Gabriel Laurent. He'd taken a few moments following their patrol to enjoy the view, watching the sea undulate quietly through the slit of his great helm. The warrior's plated gauntlet rested easily on the pommel of his blade, Cloudbreaker, despite his sense of ease. His back stayed ramrod straight, though he still stood no higher than the ordinary man. At his back, and wrapped around his shoulders, hung a cloak of drab earthen brown: its hemmed edges threadbare, and its tail tinged with red dirt from the road.

On his chest, three violet raindrops stood out proudly, resplendently emblazoned on a world weary brigandine vest of steel riveted to weathered leather.

He turned, helm facing to the market and crowd gathered therein. Something caught the warrior's interest, and the Raindrop "Knight" slowly turned heel to meet it and made his way down the dock to the shore. Each step on the pier's planking drew a protesting squeak from sun-bleached timber.

His steps, though heavy, carried an undeniable grace and economy of movement. Gabriel Laurent moved like a warrior, unimpeded by the steel that girded his body.

Gabriel's path led him to Lady Ashara Kolwyn and her mother, Lady Tansa. He hovered at the scene's edge, saying nothing and interjecting not at all as the girl greeted a commoner boy. Though it was his intention not to interrupt, his presence did it all the same. A man in steel from head to toe, armed and vigilant, was menacing even with the best of intentions.

If noted, by either noble lady, the warrior would bow respectfully.

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

The boy can't miss Gabriel, ... He looks upon him in awe, then realizing begging for a cooper penny is no longer a good idea runs for it. It's actually quite humorous as the boy run faster then a jack rabbit between a small crowd.

Ashara is a bit taken back as she has yet to turn and notice her new protector behind her. Realizing it was not her that frightened the boy she turns to see Gabriel standing guard over her.

Lady Tansa laughs at the sight, "we'll now with you around I feel safer then every" ... "back so soon from patrol sellsword, or did you get board on the coast?" The lady of the house has made it clear she doesn't trust Gabriel very much, in fact she has challenged his intention often, but puts up with him at the request of her Lord. She always is quick to say a word or two in jest, and at Gabriel's expense.

Re: IC: Wedding Preparations

Gabriel's helm followed the child as he squirmed and darted through the crowd, shrinking from sight faster than morning dew on a midsummer day in Dorne. His seagreen eyes roved back to Lady Tansa as the woman spoke up, barely visible under the crested shadow of his helm. If the noblewoman's words stung, the Raindrop Knight showed no sign of it, bowing his head and shoulders respectfully low as he was spoken to.

Like an oft beaten dog, eventually Laurent had stopped feeling the kick of Lady Tansa's words.

When he spoke again it came not on the tail of her words, but after a brief moment of silence. Gabriel seemed to take time to consider everything he said, always giving pause before he spoke. "Apologies, my Ladies of Kolwyn." Gabriel's voice sprung from his faceless armor with the vibrancy of youth, though the hollow echo of his helm added depth and gruffness to it. "I will be more careful not to disturb, in the future." He rose then, coming to eye level with the two women again.

"The surf was quiet, Lady Tansa. Your Lord husband will be pleased." Gabriel Laurent assured. He waited a moment longer, looking back over his shoulder for a moment towards Kolwyn Hold - to retreating banners, the same he had rode under not an hour ago. "The world is better off when soldiers are bored."
