Just look at the difference of Mature and Adult. I have not yet played or gm'ed a game where the threshold has been passed. Those things you would be allowed to do/write in beyond-mature games are of no interst to me anyway.

I have run games that are Adult rating for nothing more than the detail of graphic violence - So I can see running and/or playing in an adult game - But it seems a slippery slope

That's about the start of it, but I personal find more the sexual context to be the issue.

My thing on the pay to play adult is if you pay the first month so they have your age and everything, could you stop paying, but still play adult games because they still have your age on record.

no often it is, however I ran a game once that was "mature" and wrote up a death scene that I was later informed was not for Mature but should have been labled adult...

lol So I don't game for sexual reasons. But I like a lot of detail. So this leads me with the violence part being a tight rope to walk.

Just read the latest on this Pay for Adult games, turns out she didn't take the needed precautions with the age statement. See I'm so glade I did that as part of our Request to Join.

Everyone here has their adult statement before they were formally accepted to the game.

 I think the " pay to play" is  a bunch of Bravo Seirra, as we used to say on he he service.  BS in other words. I hope it is delayed a loooong time.

Well I'm not sure, but if they are a nonprofit organization they can't charge. But if they are for profit then they can and if they are not getting the cash they need to support this then they may have too. But I have read a few articles on them and they have accounted for the cash spent well and have a good rep. so I'm not to sure about the BS part, but I would be very disappointed. I do know of a few sites that are free that can easily be used to house a game. In fact I was using one before coming over here. But they don't have a forum to recruit. So the players are only by invite.

Which is why, as soon as I get my home PC back running I will continue my google site for this game and do a google circle for gaming so we can keep in touch just in case. It will also house our archives so we don't loss all this hard work :)

 Was there any indication of  a time line, when this might happen? If it has been kicking around since 05, it still might just be a rumor.

Its not a rumor as the mods confirmed it. They just have not finalized it yet. and it looks as if its only going to be for adult games. But this could change.

I don't think the legalities are something they have thought about (or maybe they have). If some pay to play they then have a responsibility, both to the consumer and the law. Right now they only have a limited responsibility to the law which they handle very easily 'remove or ban the member' and they also place the responsibility to the GM, which they can't do any longer once they charge because they manage the site so they will be equally responsible under most laws.

Its a tricky business, and ads are the best way around it. In fact they should look into video game ads and stuff directly related to gaming. Sites that sale the books for the game we play. ETC ETC.

I don't see this as a mega money maker - so selling out to a Wizards/Hasbro doesn't look like a possibility as they already have their own sites for gaming.

again, the subscriptions are for only adult games. I have played in one adult game that needed the Adult rating. Most truly qualify as Mature. At this point Mathys it could be at least 6 months probably even longer.

You are leaving over something that has been in the works for over 9 years and still doesn't have a set time to begin .... why would you do this... Wait it out and see what happens.

I don't know, it doesn't really bother me too much.

I use this site an awful lot, as I'm sure many here do - if the administrator needs some extra cash to keep RPOL afloat I'm happy to chip in my bit (I've probably spent more money on less before).

Personally, I'm not an "Adult" gamer, but I do play in a few games that have required the designation because of graphic violence. So I'll pay a subscription without a fuss.

Ok let's get something straight, I started this chat to discuss and prep us just in case. I personally don't see it happening anytime soon. And I don't see us being effected unless they charge for all to play which is not what they are discussing right now.

So if for some reason we need to pay to play I will be ready. And I don't think I would pay. So that means I would move the game. Again that's a long way off and it will work out.

So let's move on to posting in IC. :)

PC sheet will be opened will be kept closed until exps are issues.


Players in their planning threads should talk about their houses, once your current IC is finish a month in game time with pass and house rolls for wealth and stuff will be made before going into the next IC.

I saw that also, but I did also see that the fact are not to far off the topic. I just wanted our group to see it, and give us something to talk about in chit chat. I been on top of this from my start on RPOL (reading). I find that it's a bit confusing.


My points are;

They seem to want to keep adult games. But they have trouble with them. They don't want to remove adult game for a few reasons. But say they need money to support them. One issue is confirming age for adult games, their solution has flaws (payment methods will verify age). Also if they start billing one group they could run into players trying to run a fine line btw mature and adult games. Which now starts a new line of issues.

The site is good but I know a few that charge and they offer a lot more to the players, like detail form charater sheets for the game system they are playing, and not HTML stuff more like PDFs with charater building features. Map builder for GMs to customize maps and dungeons.

Wikis that work :) and they sell product for the games, they use a drop ship system or links to earn the extra needed cash to support the site. It's a yearly fee and donations. The donators get stuff and added privileges.

I personal don't feel that way here. I feel the chat is a formality and they will run this their way. Which if they plan to charge people, those paying will expect something more then just access. And most importantly once they charge a whole new set of legalities will open up.

Right now they just have a moral issue, which they quickly ban someone and say they did something, but once they charge, now its becomes a business and they will,have more responsiblies to those that are paying and to the general publics. They're USA based so tha'st just basically means law suites. One good one and this site goes by by.

I personally like the site because of its player pool not its features, but anything over $20.00 US dollars per year I would drop it, not because of the money but because of the features, why pay them for the min. When I can get more for the money. It becomes simple - what's the best value.

For me its pffffff... there are so many places to play for free whatever you want that paying to play makes no sense at all.

As a side note, plenty of other websites that were big when they were free and could have been easily monetized but instead decided to enter into 'subscription models' and are now virtually gone.

The first thing that will happen when this starts will be half-dozen free spin off websites recruiting from here and with add-banners all over the screen.

So I will be going away starting tomorrow, its my yearly trip to the renaissance fair, in NY. So this weekend my friends and family will dress up drink a lot of honey mead, and eat some turkey legs :)

I though the whonle point of a ressasance fair was to have realism to the medievil times in Europe.

At the event i go to people take their wife and kids with them.

well the wife also enjoys it.

Also having children at LARP events bleeds an amount of realism into the setting.

Hovever we have ended up with a situation in which the Academy (where the young people go before they have passed their citizenship test and test of combat, usually ages 5 to 12) is richer than the rest of the nations combined, and the younger generation are playing with and wasting materials that others can only dream of. For some reason if a child comes up to someone and tries to trade with them, everyone simply accepts the trade even if its detrimental to them due to the cuteness factor.

Players here are welcomed to play multiple PCs with different storylines here together in one spot :) if a GM steps forward to do so. BUT keep in mind I would ask that they follow all the guidelines I have put into place and that they stay consistent with what we are doing as a whole. I personally have join a group as a player but the timeline is more current with Robert as King, so this would not work with joining us here.

I have been watching BBC the Musketeers and was even thinking how I could get some of that flair into this game but I couldn't get passed the muskets - black powder - really changes things when getting into a fight with Game of Thrones but - 7th Seas has all that covered and some of the stuff you can do is really cool.

I would be a player :) I would need help with my character sheet completely forgot the mechanics, but I do remember swinging the riggings and trying to sleep with all the women, LOL :)

Sorry for not posting for awhile, just moved into my new place and I'm wait for internet to be set up.

Yesterday I got a virus on my work PC and I'm now having troubles with my phones and internet. Posting will be light on my end until Monday or Tuesday, as I get this fixed.

working via my lap top.  Fixed my phone and my emails, i think i almost or did get hacked but i noticed early and save all but my fun/junk email address.

so i now have linited internet until my work PC is checked out.

My request for players doesn't seem to be bring in the players I thought it would. So it looks like the Stormlands my be our last house for some time as we play.

Also our newest player dropped out because the game was to developed and massive for them, they also wanted more free forum.

How do you fell about this?  What do you think we can do to keep recuiting?

I can develope several storylines that interact and allow players to have multi-characters, is this something as a whole you all would be interested in?

I'll keep this short since I'm on my phone. It seems a little silly for players to rtj and then drop because the game is so developed. They can see the number of posts and background content before even submitting anything. Maybe it was just a special case.

As far as more characters and interweaving storylines, I'm all for that. I would enjoy having more than one character to be able to see what else is going on in other areas as well as the story line I'm already reading. But as far as RTJs and such I think things might be slowing down due to the end of summer/back to school season, but things always pick up during the semester. The number of players might increase in a couple of weeks.

 I think that you should continue to recruit, as you never know when you might snag a good player. The only problem, if you even want to call it a problem, is that  it takes a loooong time, between IC  action. Most Gamers have short attention span, and that lag time is a consideration to be taken into account. And if we did make two characters for each player, would the long delays between the IC action, be any better, or even worse. This is the major reason I see, for the lack of new players.  Just my two  Dragons worth.

Yup, unfortunutly - I was lurking a very good game that just puffed away from one day to the next, really good players, their posting was long well written and pretty cool. I was hoping to get them over to us but the comments by our last recuit as they opt out were interesting and that's why I wanted to talk about it some here to see what we can do. I'm not giving up and we have over 25 players, this game itsn't going anywhere.

May get a little complex, but if a player thinks they can handle it I'm not opposed.

This bring up a good piont, maybe with second character we can arrang this based on when players are on line and their real comment to posting.

Like myself I post largly btw 9am and 5pm eastern time and then again in the evening before I go to sleep after 8pm to about 11pm.

Maybe if we discuss time frames that we are normally online will help our posting rate and I can arrange the storyline so that these players (with simular posting abilities) are together making this flow faster and smoother.

Total agree, as GM it takes alot not to forget my place and I have to read back all the time to remind me were where at in the story.

If we do this we have to be honest and no meta gaming, also we have to try our best not to have our multi-character interact directly so others dont feel cheated that the player is using multi charaters to develope an upper hand later.

Dont forget at some point the game does in to war and players will have to choice sides - so this will make player vs player a big issue, and lets not forget of loyalty, honor, and just plan they want to.

I think the speed of posting could be the biggest killer. I know it feels like I've been sitting around doing nothing since I got into the game. It's not enough to make me walk away from the game, but I see how it might have that affect on others.

Also, I find myself online between 11am and 3pm central most days and ALL day Wednesday and Thursday.

Ok I started a chart that will list when a player maybe expected to be online.

Let see if this help speed things up :)

Actually it's about on par, the description is that you are known through out the 7 kingdoms for your deeds.

Famous seems more for say your a famous bard, or maybe a tourney knight. Seems to be more about your "presence"

Respected came off to me, it's less about your presence and more about your actions.

Those two are very odd Qualities when they are in the same book. Although there have been a lot of problems with this system.

Totally a crazy day at work, and it’s going to be a crazy 2 weeks.

I have to get stuff ready for my little girl to go back to school, and I have to get her birthday party ready. SO I have been reading and I have been on top of this. Not sure if you have noticed but the game will expand to a new game that I plan to call "King's Landing" THIS game will be for players to create a PC that is a commoner (small folk) - As a master blacksmith, armorer, merchant, owner of a whore house, etc, .....

Your PC can be leaders in organizations involved in the trade of goods, of the faith, provide services, or both to consumers or to other businesses, or services to nobles; the ideas can be endless (sellswords, mercenary's and hedgeknights as well) .

Basically you play a person that stays in the city, works in the city and interacts with PC from one game to the next when they visit. This will be separate from the PC you currently have.

The above game will be marked adult, so the info and link info above will be needed to play it and I recommend for your known future interest read up on it. NO Player will be required to be part of it, it is completely voluntary on your part. I will be running it. It will have separate house rules and RTJ. It will also not allow CO-GM or second GMs to have PCs but there will be plenty of NCs to go around.

I will happen in a few months and will not be part of the current adventure, in fact it will go into effect after our adventure is done so it will be a few months before it gets off the ground.

IF interested in talking about this idea please see link to a message in another game. Please comment good or bad in this thread to see if we can attract new players to it as well as to this game.

Yes, I will be starting a northern campaign.

Players here will be allowed a second character there. Players there the same here.

Seperate storylines that later will tie together, some PCs may even move over if the sortyline goes in that direction. Same timeline and the PCs from the both campaigns including the player house and all exist in both games.

players here wanted a second PCs so I figured best a second game that is part of this one and doesnt mix things up here in a bad way.

Its the same game but the adventure takes place in the north those PCs will not be going to the wedding or King's Landing.

But the events are happening at the same time.

And with time - it's all in the Co-GMs, this isn't possible without them. So the credit goes to the whole crew, even our players :)

 Well  I was thinking of rping a Shylock in kings landing, or perhaps a someone that works of the Iron Bank in Kings Landing. Just some ideas.

I'm not sure if you understand, this thread is meant to have solo, private talks between PCs, and NCs.

The info is not shared in anyone group. The idea is that players can step a side not to slow down an IC with chatter that doesn't apply to the adventure, current storyline or just none of their bees wax.

Ernesto and Cyra stroll down memory line is to take place in that IC:. Now you get to continue to post in the other IC because there is no combat and the topic is not going to change anything in the other IC. It's falvor text for you PMs but we should keep track of it so it goes in an IC not PM because PM get the Purge when done.

SO please post your comments from PM and so on in the IC: Lords & Ladies, BUT in Re: IC: By Land & Sea you can continue as if that conversation is over and your headed to the boat.

If this is too confusing then just finish you background/memory line IC and go back when ready. :)

I did not get to ICs today (yet), but I will later tonight. Tomorrow will be a busy day with my little one going back to school and some meetings at work. And Yes I do need to get some work done :)

Ser Mathys hit Ser Edric but that one's armour was too strong.

You mentioned something like "the one who hits three times first wins".
So, do you count both as "hits" or only the one that drew blood, i.e. inflicted actual damage ?

Further, do you intend to continue the fight or not ?

Well we are using blunted swords so I think damage is negated. It more to just show us how damage works in this game.

Crazy week at work just finished my reports at 4:59 and sent them out. My boss hates that :) he said by 5pm, lol

This weekend is my little one 6th B-day so I will be running around.

I am still working on a few things and next week looks crazy for work. I have a few board meetings and engineers meetings and so on and so on :)

Anyways work pays the bills and I love my job :) thankfully they like me too.

There seems to be a lot more chatting and getting new players than R'ping.

Remember, this is a feudal society, if lords and ladies can go for days strutting around like peacocks, for the rest of us commoners there's only so much sword sharpening and hooves picking we can do.

I find it hard to go on tangents and develop plots and sub-plots as I haven't got a scoobie of what are the limits of players freedom.

CO-GM are being accepted in the Northern Campaign pleases send adult statements - as we are starting to set that up and open to players come about a week or so if possible.

I think to speed things up one roll, and if someone enters combat after, then new rolls.

ie

Mathy and Edric are sparring and they get out of hand and Merius steps in to stop the next blow and end their fight, new Initiative rolls for all to see the order of who reacts first, and if the fight continues it in stays in that order.

or

I think we should post the order of combat, something like with each attack a player makes all their rolls, GM posts the order of events and the players discribes the attack/defence. we need to speed this up.

I'm not sure why but the last/this combat took way too long.

We need to streamline this for the PbP.

FYI - UPDATE

Denalor will no longer be CO-GMing at this time. BUT he will still help on a few issues, Right now he is working and helping with Heraldry. Those that are knights would have their own colors, and he can go over this with you if your interested.

I think we can work on this via Planning thread. So keep a look out for this.

I'm moving some stuff around and cleaning up what I think would make searching for info easier for us. I also plan to post more info for better game play so look for edits as we go.

Ok so weekend is almost here. I have the next 3 weekend with all kinds of stuff to do. Weddings, church stuff and so on. I hope to get in some posts tomorrow and hope you guys can too :)

I now that September is a tuff month. I know that we had a US holiday that started the month, school for many started and parents getting their kids ready to go back to school, and next week is the Jewish holidays. BUT the threads are moving really slow and the posting is too long in-between. I ask that this week we apply just some extra effort to get in one good post each so that 1. I know you have been ready and are up to-date with the game and 2. that your still with us :)

I hoping it 's just one of those things that just happen every so often and we get passed it.

Running from one misunderstanding to another is not exactly my idea of having fun with role-play.
It obviously just doesn’t work out between the GM(s) and myself and my enthusiasm has gone from 130% down to 10% (at most) real quick.
Added to this that the general IC activity has deteriorated massively (at least for the Ashfield/Neumann region) - wasn't it supposed to be a 24h game ? - it's high time for me to cut the rope.

So, I thank you for this brief 64day peek into YWWV.

 Ouch!  Wallace leaving the game, is going to be felt. And I for one, am damn sorry to see him go. But he does have a point, the pace of the game is way to slow, at least for the Ashfield end of things. I figure we will get an actual joust in about New Year's Eve. And I have my doubts even on that score.  The GMs do a darn fine job, but that being said...... Sorry if I ruffled anyone's feathers.

The Jewish Holiday starts today and I will be going away until Sunday night. I will be reading and trying to post when I can.

It seems that jumping in is not working. I think many find it odd to just jump in and say "hi I'm Here"

I kind of see it as they were always around just not active are present for past  parts of the story and now they are, .... so they just make it up as they go. Which those that have stuck it out kind of noticed and followed up on.

Maybe I'm just reading to much into it :( we have done better then the average drop out rate for RPoL so far - (I think) and those not as active as we started we have 20+ players between 3 major threads.

So maybe this next push gets a few players excited and inspired to write and post.

This game is definitely doing better than most, and having dropouts is just the nature of the RPOL beast. I think as long as there are a few proactive players and GMs and a way to help drive scenes along (tension and conflict) games have a way of keeping themselves going.

So I have up-dated our casting list

I have cleaned up some PMs, which I ready carefully and I did not find anything that needed to be saved.

I cleaned up the ICs and other treads for GMs so that its a little easier to find stuff.

 Apologies, to those that are in a thread with Mathys. I just got home and need to hit the sack. I will post tomorrow for sure.

FYI

I did some updates, there were a few that have not logged in for a very long period and I did try to contact them before. So I have removed some players for responding by PM or rmail.

Also some of the NC will be moved over from our cast list and placed in threads for future reference.

I will also be updating our group 0 thread and other site info that has been a bit out dated with our new player coming in and some old players leaving.

Heads up

I will be purging PMs on Monday.

Keep in mind that all PMs can be seen by GMs and that we end up with a massive amount of PMs which as GMs we have to read and monitor. PMs can be used to talk with other players (I recommend it when its private or secret) but when done I ask that you post something that lets us know we can delete it.

Lets try "GM can Purge this thread"

Then on Monday's I will go through PMs looking for this and remove them.

Your RTJ must be kept for as long as you play the game. If there is info you want to make sure never gets deleted or lost I recommend posting it there.

Well, I am waiting for the next adventure I guess, since mine has ended.  Also, I have one that I thought would have been purged long ago.  I will make a message in it for that reason.

I have just posted about half of the House Creation Thread, I would like everyone to look it over. If you see anything please point it out.

The goal is to have a step by step house creation process that any player can use to make a house in our game. Its to make house creation easier, faster, and complete.

The info is for this game and I have some open spots were tonight I will fill in that's just for the southern campaign. I will also be adjusting some of the history information with more detail on the southern regions as what posted now is focused on the northern region, but the information is still good to use if interested in that history section of the house creation process.

Last - I will opening up so talks about some house rules, one that has started in the Northern Campaign set up is 'Community' for land resources. I hope that everyone gives their thoughts on this because its a big deal on how a it will effect the future of this game when it get to a war campaign.

 Ok, I am seeking to RP another character, someone not so---ahhhhh, shall we say, not as " outline" as Mathys. How do I go about joining that new House? And before  I forget, Caladin, despite my whining from time to time, you and the other GM's do an out #%^£ing standing job of running this insanity.  That's how we used to say it in the Army.
