Westeros  is one of the four known continents in the known world, the others being Essos, Sothoryos, and Ulthos. Most of the area of Westeros is covered by a political entity known as the Seven Kingdoms, while the far north beyond the Wall includes the free folk. The closest foreign nations to Westeros are the Free Cities, a collection of independent city-states across the narrow sea in western Essos. To the south of Westeros lie the Summer Islands.

Dorne: Dorne is the southernmost region of Westeros and is known for its hot weather and hot tempers. It is ruled over by House Martell. Dorne was the last of the Seven Kingdoms to submit to the Targaryens and did so through marriage treaty rather than conquest. Hence the words of House Martell: Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.

Dorne: Sunspear is the ancient stronghold of House Martell and the capital of Dorne. It is located on the far southeastern coast of Westeros and is surrounded on three sides by the sea. Sunspear is a walled settlement, protected by three massive winding walls encircling one another. Outside of the walls one can find mud-brick shops and windowless hovels

King's Landing The capital of the Seven Kingdoms, located in the Crownlands on the east coast of Westeros. It is situated along the Kingsroad at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush and overlooks Blackwater Bay. It is the site of the Iron Throne and the Red Keep, which is the seat of the crown.

The Stormlands: The ancestral home of the Storm Kings and seat of power of House Baratheon of Storm's End, placed in the southeast section of Westeros, to the northeast of Dorne. The Stormlands are so-named because of the savage and frequent storms that batter the coast. Bastards that are born in the Stormlands are given the surname Storm.
