Noble Houses & Vassals of Dorne

House Rules and Guidelines::
The list below is current and are the known houses of Dorne. They are listed in groups, then alphabetical order. Group 1 Greater Vassels & Masterly Houses; Group 2 Lessor Vassels & Nobles Houses; Group 3 Restricted.

  1. Houses with an {*} are Greater Vassels & Major Houses. Players can not make characters that are direct family members of Greater Vassals. Only Co-GMs are allowed to NC these characters and houses. Players with GM approval may be allowed to be part of the house hold, with a position of status 1 or 2, and can not hold a title of position.

  2. Houses that are in ITALIC are Lessor Vassals & Minor Houses in which we could not find information in any cannon to work with. Players can develop these houses freely or until cannon is released to be added in the future. Co-GMs & GM have finial approval on their creation, but players will be allowed to develop these houses freely. There are no current restrictions for characters that fall under this section, and players are allowed to be heads of house and heirs.

  3. Restriction: Houses in or part of the follow list are restricted; Dorne Houses of the Boneway. If a Player is interested in coming from these Lands or Houses they most first submit a developed and complete storyline with as much details as possible. The submittal most then fit with the others player houses and PCs. Please note that most (90%) of ideas for these houses will be rejected due to there backgrounds and social standing in the political setting of this game.

  4. Houses without sigils are open for players to create PCs except for 'The Lord Prince' or 'Princess/Lady of the house'. Players are welcomed to create heirs and or 1st born sons and daughters as well as bastards. Plan carefully with Co-GMs & GM to discuss all ideas before making changes or development of these houses. You will be required to follow the current set-up. Players will have no control over how the house is developed during play. This includes house fortunes, wealth and other improvements unless a PC becomes 'The Lord' or 'Lady of the house'. Lastly if a player does gain control of a non-player house, they will be required not to alter that families history in any way with these PCs and they will be forced to follow known written history when the time arises.

  5. Houses with sigils are restricted for players to create PCs except for daughters. Players may play daughters of the family. Please keep in mind that they will be married off when they come of age and even sent away if betrothed. If already married the player will have some say in the matter. If they become of age during play (IC) it will be based on the current events of the game. Players may also create characters for these house holds (not family members) of statues 3 or lower and they may hold a title and position.

  6. Player Houses will not have restrictions in Player Character & Player House creation. Players will be allowed to freely develop these houses, characters and backgrounds. Please see link to a message in this game for the main player houses in Dorne.

Estates: Player & GM Notes: These are the lowest level of nobles just above smallfolk and just below a landed knightly house. They are consider an estate house in service to their liege lord. They normally manage an area of land or a community for their lord. The key difference between a Banner House and Estate is that and Estate House is not sworn to their lord's house, nor do the have a power base greater then 1 unit (power 10 or less). The amount of Estates managed by a lord is a maximum half of their house influence. These are the men that often rally troops when their lord calls, which they send both family and smallfolk to fight on their behalf for their lord. An estates does not receive stats like a Banner House but if you had to compare, no stat would be greater then 10 and a 10 would mean they are close to receiving the status of a Banner House.

Family Tree

A list of important past family members and living family as well as figures that are regarded as main household members; GM notes on NCs that can be used in game. Also cannon notes that are required to be followed.

History

House Allyrion of Godsgrace
Myron Jordayne
Ser Myron is a quintessential Stony Dornishman, broad and strong, though this has diminished since he was young man. He has faily short light blond hair with no hint of grey yet. He has Hazel eyes with wrinkles just beginning to show round the edges. He married Lady Damarya Allyrion after besting other suitors in an arm wrestle match. The two had a content marriage, but a loveless one, both marrying for necessity rather than anything else. When his wife went mad, he took over many of the responsibilities of running a household while trying to teach his children.

Domains

* Greenblood: the Orphans of Valin call the Greenblood their life and live on rafts along the river which they call home. The river is in southern Dorne and is the principal Dornish river. The river takes its name from its murky green waters which are slow-moving and shallow. It is formed by the confluence of the Vaith and the Scourge near Godsgrace. Planky Town lies at the Greenblood's mouth on the Summer Sea.

Scourge: is a river in Dorne. It flows from west to east and meets the Vaith in a mountainous area, the two rivers combining to form the Greenblood, which runs all the way east to the Summer Sea. The Scourge is one of the principal waterways of Dorne and home to the Orphans of Valin.

History

The Orphans of Valin are still mourning the loss of their distant homeland in Essos and so continue to practice the traditions of their river-faring ancestors. They consider themselves to be “orphans” as they are of the Rhoynar and have been orphaned from their “Mother,” the river Rhoyne, which in their faith also holds a divine status. Therefore, they also identify the river as "Mother Rhoyne."

Orphans of Valin
Valentyna of Valin
Description & History
Lady of Valin
Darius of Valin
Darius is scarred enough to draw attention and pity from those of delicate constitutions, though his mad eyes generally keep such sentiments offered politely and at arm's length. He dresses in plan dark silks adorned with little decoration, and fights with a singing-chain matched to a duelist's longknife in a curious serpentine style of his own invention. In his younger years, a short time ago, he was very much a scholar. Recently, he does not often speak of that time, and when he does he speaks of experiences that are disjointed from timeline, motive, or event. He returned from a desert patrol a few months hence, alone and quite disturbed. Some say he maybe auffering from sun-sickness.

House Kyblen: of Green Bend is a minor noble house, sworn to House Allyrion, they have had a short but tumultuous history. It was born just before The Dance of the Dragons, when the first Kyblen, by the name Jasper, then a guardsman serving the Prince, went above and beyond in preventing an assassination attempt. He was rewarded with land and titles, which went a long way toward paying for the hand he lost.

    • Asna Kyblen (b. 149), 1st daughter, heir to Green Bend
    • Ebram Kyblen (b. 151), 1st son

Domains

Scourge: is a river in southern Dorne. It meets the Vaith in the Dornish eastern mountains to form the Greenblood near Godsgrace.

History

The Dance of the Dragons: After the founding, a son of House Kyblen earned them some notoriety by being exiled from Dorne, although his crimes were never made public. During the same time, another son of House Kyblen earned a great deal of glory and renown for fighting alongside Rhaenyra Targaryen. The house prospered thanks to his reputation, despite her eventual defeat.

The Conquest of Dorne: A branch of House Kyblen attempted to seize control of the south bank and declare themselves an independent house. Unfortunately for them, Lady Thena did not see things their way, and she insisted to Beric that they end their days at The Wall. Beric did send four of his cousins to The Wall and exiling two other household members.

House Kyblen of Green Bend
Beric Kyblen
Lord Beric cuts a grandfatherly figure with his balding head, and gruff laughter. He is well-liked by everyone under his authority, and strives to serve as a just and fair leader. Even those who earn his ire seldom hold it against him, such is his charisma among the smallfolk. The lord’s greatest assets, as is not uncommon among minor banner lords, his combat skills. Aside from a his reputation as a fearsome commander and leader of men, he is trained in the fencing style of combat favored among sailors, and speaks more than a few languages.
Lord of Green Bend
Thena Corinthyen
Lady Thena is pious and generous with the Faith of the Seven, and she does not tolerate blasphemy, disrespect, or the discussion of other faiths in her Hall. She firmly believes that the gods have rewarded her hard work and faith, and intends to see that her descendants have the same values. She is a firm, strict matriarch, and runs her house with discipline and dexterity. The hand of her rule may wear a silk glove, but there is iron underneath.
Lady of Green Bend
Asna Kyblen
Asna may be young and inexperienced in the ways of the world, but that hasn’t stopped her from becoming her mother‘s most apt pupil in the ways of a highborn lady. If she continues to advance in grace and courtesy as she has so far, she’ll soon be the talk of the courts.
Heir to Green Bend
Ebram Kyblen
Ebram is not deaf to his mother’s lessons, he’s just not very interested. He prefers archery to swordplay, and never turns away from the opportunity to go riding through the mountains or rub shoulders with the smallfolk in the hamet. Ebram is also quite mischievous and known for playing elaborate pranks, although most people suspect that his sister Asna is the real planner of their games. Ebram hardly seems to have the patience for it.
1st Son to Beric

Domains

Sand Saddle Way: is a pass in north western Dorne within the Red Mountains. It's located between the source of the Torentine River and Blackmont. It is a twisting and turning pass that ends at the mouth of the Torentine River of the Red Mountain of Starfall. It splits as it comes down from the mountains, with the southern branch running to the stronghold of House Corinthyen, and the northern way climbs Liberty’s Height.

History

Corinthyen Family:

Thracyen Family:

Some 15 years ago they give their lands and titles over to House Corinthyen. These two houses became more noticeable in court and grow a stronger line of succession. Lady Edana Thracyen keeps her siblings and their families close hoping one day to raise up from the ashes.

House Corinthyen of Spirit Hall
Aengus Corinthyen
Lord Aengus is a capable leader, intelligent and well-schooled. It was his organizational and planning skills that brought his daughter's dream of power to fruition, and his knowledge of the courts and impeccable social grace that solidified their household. He was never more than a passable warrior, and preferred to leave the fighting to the firstborn and the lowborn, but his years of experience have taught him the value of more than passable skill with a blade, and he intends to see his own sons well-trained.
Lord of Spirit Hall
Jasmylla Fowler
Jasmylla was born the first daughter of Madoc Fowler, and marrying into House Corinthyen was a definite step down in her eyes. Nonetheless, she decided that she loved the young Lord Aelius Corinthyen, and if there’s one thing to know about Lady Jasmylla, it’s that she always gets what she wants.
Lady of Spirit Hall
Edana Corinthyen
Upon first meeting, Lady Edana Corinthyen seems to be sweetness and grace incarnate, but a careful observer soon learns that iron determination and dangerous passions are hidden beneath her smile. In the end, most people find it easier to give in to her desires rather than suffer an endless barrage of subtle hints, casual comments, disdainful whispers, and sniffs of disappointment. She is commonly called the Desert Rose.
Heir to House Corinthyen
Lady Edana Thracyen
A gorgeous woman, her beauty virtually unmatched at her age, the Lady Edana is very active in her sons lordship, and seeks constantly to reinforce his reputation and authority. She is becoming legendary in local social circles, and her natural talent for the various womanly graces is well-known. She has had many students over the years, young girls sent to foster at the house for a time by lesser houses, and she prides herself on being able to teach anyone. Fortunate for her, the love for the late husband was a saving grace for her lord father, who had lost his house in the fighting some 18 years ago. Edana disdains violence and threats, preferring to turn enemies into loyal friends. She enjoys being waited on hand and foot, and takes every opportunity she can to enjoy the benefits of her station without rubbing it in anyone’s face.
Lady of Corinthyen
Maester Saavio
Saavio is getting forgetful in is later years. He took service with House Corinthyen at 23. In his younger years as Maester of the house he was quite capable in all respects, now he seems especially focused in the area of healing, on the basis of which he came highly recommended by the Citadel. He joined the household 44 years ago at the behest of Lord Corinthyen, who had become convinced that Aengus’shyness was the result of some medical affliction. Unfortunately, many believe Saavio's mind is indeed failing, House Corinthyen may be in for turbulent times.
Maester of Corinthyen
Areon Grael
Areon is a guarded man, that prefers not to talk about his past. When he was a young boy, his family was attacked by raider in the southern reach of the Dornish Marches. The raiders killed them all and left him for dead, stealing little they had. Through a cruel twist of fate, Areon had merely taken a blow to the head and was knocked out. That day is but a blur to him, except for the bandit leader’s face. Areon most prized item is his fathers sword 'Sandstorm' a broken castle forged blade. His prowess is exceptional and impressed the lord Aelius, who invited Areon to become a member of his house as master-at-arms. Areon one and only regret is that he has not been able to track down that bandit leader, he’s never forgotten, but he has moved on.
Master-at-Arms
Doran Equerry
Doran Equerry is from the famous house of sand steed breeders. Know to be the terror of the stable boys, and if you listen to the talk some of the maids as well. Dark-haired, thin, and somewhat short, the Master-of-Horse is nonetheless an athletic man, and stronger than he looks. He seems to like his horses better than he does most people, and he never shies from threatening all manner of suffering to a stable boy who fails to complete his chores. Even among his betters he can manage little more than vague insolence, and he’s known to get more than a little bawdy when he’s in his cups. With that said, he is very good at his job, and the stables of House Corinthyen are run with a tight discipline which Lord Aengus appreciates.
Master-of-Horse
Mara Sand
The Hunt-Mistress and Kennelmaster of House Corinthyen is unmatched in the region when it comes to tracking and killing prey in either desert or mountains, and she looks good doing it, too. Unfortunately, she seems to have few other interests, so unless one is prepared to discuss the finer points of hawking, or the value of a longbow versus a standard hunting bow, it may be wise to seek conversation elsewhere. Mara Sand is an exquisite picture of the Rhoynar bloodlines. However, she claims to be from somewhere north of The Reach. Her story is that her family died during a skirmish between two noble houses and she migrated south to get away from it all. While Lady Edana has publicly confirmed this when questioned, most people suspect that something more is going on.
Hunt-Mistress and Kennelmaster

House Dayne

Greater Vassals (Major Houses) - Status 6
House Dayne
House Dayne: of Starfall is a noble house from Starfall in Dorne. They are among the principal houses sworn to House Martell. Dawn is a greatsword as pale as milkglass that legend tells was forged from the heart of a fallen star thousands of years ago. Dawn does not simply pass from one head of the house to the next. Instead, only those members of the family who have proven themselves worthy are permitted to wield the weapon. These men are known as Swords of the Morning. Few are as storied as the Daynes, and perhaps none as burdened by recent loss. The seat of House Dayne is Starfall Castle, which lies on the Torentine where it pours into the Summer Sea. In appearance, members of the family are stony Dornishmen whose characteristics mostly resemble the rest of the Seven Kingdoms in look, customs and traditions. Unlike the rest of the more Rhoynish-looking Dornishmen, they have pale skin with hair ranging from dark brown to pale blond and they often have violet eyes. Their sigil is a silver sword and a falling star on a lavender background and their words are "None So Worthy".

House Fortunes:

Dawn: is the ancestral greatsword of House Dayne, whose wielder is always given the title Sword of the Morning. Dawn is largely the reason for House Dayne's fame. Its origins are lost to legend, but it seems likely that the Daynes have carried it for thousands of years. It is said to be made from metal forged from the heart of a fallen star. The blade is as pale as milkglass, looking like no Valyrian blade, yet sharing all of the properties, being incredibly strong and sharp. Unlike other houses who have ancestral swords, House Dayne does not pass its sword from lord to lord. Only a knight of House Dayne who is worthy can wield it. The name of the Daynes' castle, Starfall, and their arms, featuring a white sword and falling star, both reference Dawn.

Starfall: built of pale, white stone it sits atop a rocky island outcrop a hundred feet above the river mouth. There are stone ladders carved into the face of the outcrop which allow for quick access to the river and docks from above. These are known as the 'Father's Ladders' as it is said no unjust man may mount them. The nobles of Starfall are very careful however, and the Ladders are guarded by murder holes and open into a courtyard that has only one exit, a low tunnel that can be flooded in times of emergency. The castle itself has two walls, a fifteen foot high curtain wall and a twenty five foot high inner wall. There is but one gate through the curtain walls on the southern side, hard against the edge of the outcrop. A potential invader would have to ride around the entire curtain wall, as the sole road up to Starfall come from the north which is exposed to arrow fire the entire way and with the Daynes attempting to block the road. The inner gate is situated on the north side of the wall and so once more an invader would have to traverse the outer bailey exposed to fire from two or more directions.

The outer bailey is where the stables, refuge, kitchen gardens, sept and Godswood are to be found. The inner bailey is where the barracks, practice yard, the great kitchen, small garden, and forge are located. The keep is where the Lords of Starfall and their family's household and retainers live. It is a fortress first and foremost, and whilst it is comfortably appointed it is primarily meant for defence. The keep contains the great hall, the small hall, the small kitchen and the library, as well as the various chambers and solars of the servants and retainers of House Dayne. The keep also has a courtyard.

Tower of Dusk: rising from the center of the keep, from it's lofty summit that the beacon fire is lit at night as a warning to ships passing close to shore. The Tower of Dusk is where the Maester and Septon keep their quarters and is the smallest of the two towers of the keep.

Tower of Dawn: is the a great tower, located near the front of the keep. The Tower of Dawn is the largest tower in the stronghold and at the top of the tower is located The Chamber of The Sword, were Dawn is kept until a bearer is judged worthy of it. When Dawn is present this chamber is guarded night and day. When a new Sword of The Morning is named he is resident in this tower, the only permanent residents are the Captain of Guards and the master-of-arms.

Palestone Sword: is the largest tower, and one of the largest in all Dorne, behind only the Spear Tower at Sunspear and the Wardens Tower at Yronwood. It is the residence of the Prince of Sunspear and his immediate family when they visit Starfall. The Palestone Sword is located within the castle Starfall, as it looks out over the great, open Summer Sea.

Starfall: the ancestral castle of House Dayne in Dorne, located in the western Red Mountains on an island in the Torentine where it pours into the Summer Sea. Starfall, which includes a tower called the Palestone Sword, guards the western arm of Dorne.

Red Mountains: the western mountain region extending over by the river Torentine which flows from the mountains to the Summer Sea.

Torrentine: is a river in Dorne which flows south from the western Red Mountains to the Summer Sea. The castles of Starfall is located on the Torentine. It is a fast river which passes through a series of rapids, waterfalls, canyons, and crevasses.

History

House Dayne of Starfall are one of the most ancient houses in the Seven Kingdoms, claiming ancestry dating back ten thousand years to the dawn of days. Though their fame largely rests on their ancestral sword, called Dawn, and the men who wield it. The first Dayne is said to have raised Starfall on an island at the mouth of the Torrentine, having tracked a falling star there and found a stone of magical powers. His descendants, thereafter, became the First Men Kings of the Torrentine and Lords of Starfall.

The Daynes have taken part in many battles between Dorne and the Reach. In particular, they have been killing Oakhearts for thousands of years and King Samwell Dayne, called the Starfire, once burned Oldtown. The last Dayne King, Vorian Dayne, known as the Sword of the Evening, was defeated in Nymeria's War and sent to the Wall. Afterwards the Daynes supported Nymeria against King Yorick V Yronwood. Nymeria's third husband was Ser Davos Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. Nymeria was later succeeded by her eldest daughter by her first husband, Mors Martell, not her son by Davos.

When the Dornish fought against the House Targaryen, Ser Joffrey Dayne led an Dornish army and marched to the very walls of Oldtown, razing the fields and villages outside it. Another Sword of the Morning of note was Ulrick Dayne. He was considered an exceptional knight by Ser Eustace Osgrey, comparable as a swordsman to Daemon I Blackfyre and Prince Aemon the Dragonknight.

Skyreach: is an ancient castleand once the home to the First Men kings of House Fowler. It was carved into the stony slopes which overlooks the Wide Way, the shortest and easiest route through the Red Mountains from Dorne to the Reach. Skyreach is known for its lofty perch and soaring towers. It is located on a small plateau next to a town with the same name and is connected by a bridge. The castle itself is on the small side, consisting of a large guard house, and octagonal keep and several towers with many additions built over the years. The castle itself is more of a fortified palace than it is a castle, with large windows, and big arches. It is lavishly decorated with intricate marble carvings. The keep is built around a high octagonal hall from where you could see the galleries of multiple floors above the main hall. There are many rooms in the castle and it can only hold a limited amount of soldiers and guests. However the view from the castle is very pretty, one could oversee the town and the valleys surrounding it. From the higher parts of the castle one could see a large portion of the pass running through the Red Mountains, except for the parts where it runs around the mountain range. One could even see the deserts of Dorne stretching out behind the mountains on a clear day.

Wide Way: also knows as the Prince's Pass is one of the principal overland routes from the Reach and the stormlands to Dorne, the shortest and easiest route between the Reach and Dorne. It is guarded by the Lords of the Wide Way, the Kings of Stone and Sky from House Fowler, who carved Skyreach into its stony slopes. The Fowlers submitted to House Martell during Nymeria's War, however, and the route became known as the Prince's Pass, as the Martells used the title of "prince" in the Rhoynish custom. . It is located in the Dornish Red Mountains, also known as the Prince's Pass.

Red Mountains: it lies cradled between several mountain ranges in the highest reaches of the mountains. The second half of the Prince’s path travels to Skyreach until in descents into the deserts. The region is an impressive sight to behold with its valleys nestled between steep canyons and cliff faces of red rock. Although Skyreach lies in an arid region, some of its peaks are high enough to be covered in snow even during prolonged summers. Sparse forests of thin pine trees cover some of the uninhabited valleys and mountainsides and wildlife is surprisingly abundant in the region. The mountain ranges are home to cattle herders and hunters. There are many small hamlets and villages spread throughout this region and most of them lie on top of ridges and plateaus that are easily defendable.

Valley Regions: farmers have their farms in the narrow valleys where they use simple dams of stone and gravel to divert the melt water from the streams running through the valley to irrigate their fields. These valleys often become little paradises in an otherwise harsh region and the conditions are favourable enough to grow all sorts of crops. Farmers in the higher reaches of the region often cultivate olives, figs and grains whereas the farmers in the lower reaches cultivate fruits depending on the season. In warm summers they grow citrus fruit such as lemons and oranges whereas in the cooler winter periods they grow apples and peaches.

There is an abundance of minerals in the region but the mines are relatively few. Most mines produce iron, copper and tin, though also small amounts of gold can be found in the region. Quarries are more common in the region and Skyreach has become one of the larger producers of Marble and the Red Sandstone which is so distinctive in Dornish masonry.

History

The Age of Heroes: The Fowlers were First Men kings who ruled from Skyreach, which guarded the Wide Way between Dorne and the Reach. They titled themselves Kings of Stone and Sky and Lords of the Wide Way. Along with the Daynes and Yronwoods, the Fowlers were among the most powerful of the Dornish kings.

The Andal Invasion: The Fowlers often warred with the marcher lords to their north. King Ferris Fowler led 10,000 Dornishmen through the Wide Way to the Kingdom of the Reach, but they were turned back by King Garth VII Gardener.

The Rhoynar Invasion: Following the defeat of King Garrison Fowler, who was then exiled to the Night's Watch, the Fowlers sided with the Martells against the Yronwoods during Nymeria's War a thousand years ago. Since then they have feuded with the Yronwoods, the Wardens of the Stoneway east of the Prince's Pass.

The War of Conquest: In 10 AC during the War of Conquest, Lord Fowler led a Dornish host which burned Nightsong and took hostages from the marcher castle. The Targaryens retaliated by unleashing their dragons on Skyreach and other Dornish castles.

Darion has spent all his years in Dorne. He grew up amidst the turmoil that precipitated the rise and fall of many member of his house, and he has lived his entire life under the threatening shadow of the invasion from the Dragon Kings to the north. While he has value to his house should any ill befall his elder sibling, who stands to inherit the house, his place in Skyreach is more similar to a Westerosi lady than warrior's son. Because of the Dornish peculiarity of equal primogeniture, Darion's chances of becoming Lord of any house but his own are slim at best. His true value lies in his potential to marry into another house, preferably one lead by a noble and eligible Lady.

House Daytower: of Daytower Strand, is a minor house sworn to house Jordayne. One of the oldest bannermen and arguably most loyal of House Jordayne, House Daytower are best known for their command of the Daytower, a massively tall watchtower-lighthouse on the western coast of the Sea of Dorne. Once, the head of the household held the title "Knight of the Daytower". Their current liege, Lord Orlyn Jordayne, convinced Sunspear to raise his Bannerman from a Knightly House to that of a Lordship.

Wavepeak Hills: Smelling of the salt air and the nearby sound of waves crashing against the shore, the olive-heavy Wavepeak Hills are well-named. The land slopes downward sharply toward the sea, so that standing on nearly any of the hilltops results in a fine view of the ocean nearby.

Cedar Vale: A stream flows down from out of the nearby mountains, often seeing timber barges laden with the valuable woods from the region. Tucked away in the mountains between the shore of the Sea of Dorne and the mountain north of Godsgrace is Cedar Vale, a mountain valley that nestles in it a small wood of cedars, stubby oak, pines and rarer trees such as pistachios, cinnabar and olives. Protected from severe weather by the mountains on all sides of it, it receives plenty of rain from those clouds that blow in off the sea.

Domains

Red Mountains: are an extensive mountain range in the south of Westeros. They form a barrier between Dorne to the south and the Stormlands and the Reach to the north and west.

Prince's Pass: is one of the principal overland routes in the Red Mountains, linking Dorne to the Stormlands and the Reach. The Prince's Pass begins south of Nightsong and proceeds southwards through the mountains into the northwest of Dorne, emerging near Skyreach.

History

House Manwoody's castle seat guards the western of the two passes that lead through the Red Mountains into Dorne, known as the Prince's Pass. Kingsgrave is located further north, about halfway through the mountains. As a result, the Manwoodys are marcher lords, always the first line of defense in the frequent border wars which occurred in the Dornish marches between Dorne, the Stormlands, and the Reach. The name "Kingsgrave" as well as the Manwoody sigil, a crowned skull, refer to the fact that an old King of the Reach was slain in battle there centuries ago.

As they are located deep within the Red Mountains, the Manwoodys are "Stony Dornishmen", those with the least Rhoynar bloodlines. Instead, the Stony Dornishmen are primarily composed of the same First Men/Andal ethnic mixture as the rest of southern Westeros. As a result, Stony Dornishmen tend to be tall and light-haired.

The Age of Heroes: Manwoody in it's founding, was a forgotten backwater region nestled in an ancient fortress upon the red mountains, faceless defenders. The ancient house, Manwoody, was largely forgotten by the Dornishmen not familiar with the immediate area, but to those along Prince's Pass, Manwoody's fame stretched to it's peak. For their lord was the head of defense against a savage war with the Reach. When the king of the Reach marched southward, intent on conquering Dorne, he met the wrong end of Ezekiel Manwoody's spear, he found only death in the Southern lands. It was then House Manwoody was put on the map, noted for being the most stalwart of defenders amongst the houses of the Princess Pass. Ezekiel, personally, beheaded the monarch in combat, claiming glory so great, and was called the Valiant Defender. Their crest bares witness to their glory, and shines as an example for all future kings who dare set foot, unwelcomed, in Dorne. Ezekiel reigned for 38 years in total before dying, leaving behind his fame and fortune that helped turn his keep into what is now known as Kingsgrave.

House Martell

Great House - Status 6
House Martell
House Martell: House 'Nymeros' Martell of Sunspear is one of the Great Houses of Westeros and is the ruling house of Dorne. 'Nymeros' indicates "of the line of Nymeria," but generally it is simply called House Martell. Their seat is Sunspear in southeastern Dorne. The Martells of old used a spear as their emblem, while Nymeria and her Rhoynar used the sun as theirs. When Nymeria wed King Mors Martell, the symbols were combined into a gold spear piercing a red sun on an orange field. Their words are "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken". In appearance they are classic salty Dornishmen, with dark eyes, dark hair in ringlets, and olive skin.

History

Andal Invasion: House Martell was founded by Morgan Martell, an Andal adventurer who settled between the mouth of the Greenblood and the Broken Arm. Morgan led the defeat of the local First Men, including Houses Wade and Shell, and the Martells ruled a strip of land fifty leagues long and ten leagues wide. They did not rule as kings, but were cautious vassals of kings from Houses Jordayne, Allyrion, and Yronwood, as well as petty kings of the Greenblood.

Nymeria's War: At the time of the Rhoynish Wars, the Martells were one of the lesser ruling families of Dorne, which was a collection of feuding petty kings and lords even as the other regions of Westeros began to consolidate into larger realms. When Nymeria, the warrior queen of the Rhoynar, came with her people to Westeros from Essos in ten thousand ships, the Martell lands were dwarfed by those of House Yronwood. However, Nymeria took Mors Martell, Lord of the Sandship, as her husband and, combining their strength, the two managed to unite all of Dorne under their rule in Nymeria's War; House Nymeros Martell has reigned since.

The union of their peoples saw the Martells abandon many of their older Andal customs in favor of those of the Rhoynar. Nymeria named Mors Prince of Dorne instead of king, and their lands and title passed down to the eldest child regardless of gender. The Spear Tower and the Tower of the Sun, the towers of Sunspear's Old Palace, were built in the Rhoynish fashion.

Targaryen Wars: After Aegon I Targaryen waged his War of Conquest, he came to Dorne. In the First Dornish War his army was bled dry by guerrilla warfare in the desert, a situation in which his dragons were of little use. Deciding that conquering Dorne would be too costly, the Conqueror opted to leave the Martells as sovereign princes. House Martell kept Dorne independent from the Targaryens, the only one of the Seven Kingdoms to manage such a feat.

In 110 AC the Martells joined the Triarchy in the war against Prince Daemon Targaryen in the Stepstones. Daemon's brother, King Viserys I Targaryen, spoke of wedding his daughter Rhaenyra to the Prince of Dorne as a way of finally uniting the Seven Kingdoms, though ultimately this did not occur.

After repeated failed attempts at conquest, most notably under Daeron I and later by Aegon IV.

Vaith: is the seat of House Vaith in Dorne. It lies on the river Vaith. There is a town beneath its walls. West of Vaith are the deep sands of Dorne.

Red Dunes: lie west of the House Vaith and its Castle of Vaith, the castle also sits near the river of the same name.

History

The Vaiths were adventuring Andals who settled in the hills east of the deep dunes and sands of Dorne. The nearby river soon took their name. They built a tall and pale castle in the hills east of the restless red dunes of Dorne.

During the War of Conquest, Queen Rhaenys Targaryen flew upon Meraxes and discovered that the Vaiths had abandoned the castle. During the First Dornish War, Lord Harlen Tyrell and his army marched from the Hellholt to capture Vaith, but they disappeared in the sands.

House Fortunes:

The Kat: Typical of Dorne with its warm climate, much of the export is comprised of citrus and other exotic fruits, along with fine wines. Shipping passage and goods to and from the Summer Isles and the Free Cities has attracted many merchants to the riverside of Vaith.

Grazing land lies mainly on the north end of their lands. Though rocky in places, moderate groundwater and the remains of past forestation give the area reasonably fertile soil. Great pains were taken to level the some of the hillsides into tiered plateaus and irrigate the fields

Night’s Hiding: A great hall and the seat of House Keyuri. It rest in a rocky hillside over looking it's countryside. The bulk of its farmland are located in the Kat hills in the northern region of their land. The keep itself is built into this rocky hillside, with a single tall watchtower jutting from its center.

The grounds of their hall shows the wealth of the family, with a hanging garden looking to the south and a personal balcony to the northwest, an array of smaller balconies poking out on several sides. At its base lay the keep’s own wells, kitchen gardens, pleasure gardens, a private arbor and well as a godswood, a sept, a large courtyard and the usual array of barracks, stables, etc. In the courtyard stands a grand fountain of black marble veined in white. The sculptures at its heart depict a regal and powerful-looking woman, Keyuri its founder, one breast bared, with two shadowcats prowling at her feet. In her right hand she holds a sword loose at her side, in her left she holds before her a ceremonial bowl, out of which water pours.

On the next tier surrounding the inner walls lay the manses of the highborn and the homes, shops, workshops and smithies of the wealthiest and most skillful merchants and craftsmen. A high-class brothel, a luxurious inn and bathhouse, and a few taverns also reside here.

Beyond the outer walls and occupying the tiers below are clusters of smallfolk housing, mercantile and pleasure districts, farms and subsequent farmland, and other such buildings and features. Further dwellings, farms, shops and taverns squat at the tor’s foot and stretch to steams below.

Sisterhood of Shadowcats: This is no ordinary sisterhood, for they are bare or gloved hand weapons (i.e. claws, knuckles, cestuses, etc.), know for their skill with a vast range of daggers and light swords, usually dual-wield, and deadly with missile weapon such as the like of daggers and crossbows. It is said they sometimes employ vials of potions and poisons originating from Asshai.

Catchclaw: The main military force of House Keyuri. Known for their lightweight, silk, padding, armor that they are seen often in, it is therefore imperative that the 'kat be quick'. Some choose heftier armor such as full chain or splint, usually the men in service and are usually specialists in slower, riskier, heavier combat. There are a few, however, who have trained hard to be quick and agile even in heavy wear. They obscure their faces overtly with cloth cowls, masks or veils over the mouth. A great many of them sport Asshai’i lacquered masks, especially on the battlefield.

Family Tree

Domains

Den of Shadows: is located close to the long-disputed borders of House Jordayne, also its nearest Dorne neighbor, to the north. Further down the river of Vaith at the month of Greenblood sits Godsgrace , the seat of House Allyrion. It is difficult to reach, and the road to which is gated and garrisoned.

History

Founding History: In a daring move, the previously unclaimed land was annexed by the first Lady Keyuri upon her arrival in Westeros. With a short two years a keep was built to exacting specifications and the hillsides around it landscaped for farming and habitation. A concerted effort by its original Five Founders. The work was carried out in relative secrecy until it was nearly complete, at which time Lady Keyuri presented herself and swore for House Martell. Though this irritated the Prince of Dorne, it was decided that House Keyuri would be recognized.

Oldtown was notified and the young Maester Lucas was dispatched in return, to become the first Maester in service of Night’s Hiding. A contingency of ambitious merchants and craftsmen – among them, Simon Groat – followed him, with an influx of smallfolk and nobles alike from other regions, all hopeful of a fresh start in a new town.

Marches of Wyls: are within a portion of the Red Mountains on the eastern region. A road runs south from the castle of Summerhall in the northern marches to Yronwood via the Boneway. The marches of Wyl along the coast consist of grassland, moors, and plains, with the red mountains as a curtain to the west.

History

The Storm Kings: For over a thousand years the marches were common battlegrounds between the stormlands, the Reach and Dorne until recently, as Dorne repares to joined the Seven Kingdoms. Having been conquered by the Storm Kings, it serves as an effective buffer zone between the old enemies. The Wyls are a Dornish house with a history of fighting the marcher lords.

Recent: Many marcher houses have decided to swallow their pride, and take advantage of cheaper transport for the goods they wish to trade. Though some, such as the Dondarrions, would rather take the expense of carting goods by donkey and mule than allowing Dornish to earn profit of any sort.

House Erengar: of  Whitecliffs, so named for the white limestone that juts up from the mouth of the river banks of Wyl. The castle Vulture's Roost was built a thousand years ago to control the entry to the Wyl river valley. The castle has been expanded several times in the years since then, and changed houses twice. One large export being milk of the poppy, which is being harvested in the hillsides. The smallfolk mostly subside on fish, and perhaps as much as half of the men ply their trade on the river. In the last century, trade through Whitecliffs has been on a steady rise, attracting the attentions of merchant princes of the Free cities. Traffic between Whitecliffs and Stonehelm have increased greatly as well, spurred on by a more pragmatic generation of Swanns. Their words are "All that is Red"

Whitechalk: located in the Red mountain, along the high rims, which are relatively cooler for this region and moist compared to the lower rocky desert land below. A wide variety of vegetation supports plentiful wildlife, and the faming residents of the area. Hunting is famed in the Whitecliffs for mule deer, coyote, and mountain lions.

Valley of the Roost: a tributary of the Wyl river runs through this valley making it very fertile for the poppy. A unnamed farming village is located in this valley. Most of it's smallfolk are supported by bold the harvest of the poppy and/or live by means of the river Wyl.

Vulture's Roost: is a castle in northern Dorne. It lies near the source of the Wyl river deep in the Red Mountains. The Vulture's Roost was given its name due to a deep cleft on its western side from which arrows can rain down on its attackers. This narrow road faces east and is often called "Sunsight" because of it's blinding effect on travelers in the early morning.

History

Ser Erengar Sand is the bastard of Lord Guerin Wyl and his favorite son, he earned his spurs fighting for his father against King Daeron I, he distinguished himself well in his first battle, slaying Jason Caron's favorite son Ser Albar that held the command of the enemy center, causing a rout (the Carons claimed that Ser Erengar speared him from behind). But the powers of the northern kingdoms eventually proved too strong, and they had to retreat into the castle. The Lord having lost several family members to the Targaryen's in the war, House Wyl had to surrender to the siege and Lord Wyl had to bend a knee. Later, when Lord Tyrell's train visited Wyl, Ser Erengar was the instrument of his father's revenge as it was he that arranged for a score of sand snakes to be placed in the bed of the Warden of the West and lead the massacre of the Highgarden men, it was to him that Aemon the Dragonknight threw down his sword. Because of this act, Wyl and Whitecliffs by association would often be referred to as "that nest of vipers" for many years to come.

Founding: The former Lord of Whitecliffs, and all their heirs have died in the fighting with the Marcher Lords. As a reward to Ser Erengar Sand, Lord Wyl insured that Ser Erengar was granted the Vulture's Roost, which had been taken by House Dondarrion during the conquest of Dorne. It was recently returned to Dorne as part of King Baelor's negotiation for peace with Prince Maron Martell.

History

House Lukas was founded from the destruction of House Semphair. They inherited lands that were nearly utterly destroyed, but have done their best to rise up to meet this challenge.

Risen out of the ashes of treachery, House Lukas has a hard job ahead of it. During The Conquest of Dorne, House Semphair, a banner House of Wyl aligned themselves with the Targaryen king in the early years of the conquest, in secret opposition to their liege lords. But one of their knights, Ser Adner, revealed their perfidy to House Wyl. Once House Semphair's line was extinguished to the last man, woman and child, Ser Adner was made master of their now-ruined lands. He took the name of his father as his House name, and has struggled to do the faith of the Wyls justice ever since.

Battle of Semphair Valley: House Lukas took claim to the Semphair, but with a small detachment to help defend Alton Hill in Semphair Rise if need be. Following The Conquest of Dorne, the Green Axes struggled to replenish their ranks, and drafted the remaining opposed smallfolk, with quick training led by Ser Mortimer Daytower they are back to fighting strength.

Greater Vassals (Of the Boneway) - Status 6
House Yronwood
House Yronwood: of Yronwood is the most powerful house in Dorne after the Martells. Yronwood Castle is the last fortress defending the Boneway; this is reflected in their title Warden of the Stone Way. The Yronwoods were kings in Dorne before the arrival of the Rhoynar; the head of the house continues to hold the title 'The Bloodroyal'. The Yronwoods often have blond hair and blue eyes. Their blazon is a black portcullis grill over sand and their motto is "We Guard the Way".

Red Mountains: The southern Red Mountains of the Stone Way is almost a circular mountain range with serveral small massif of the mountains, surrounded by two large ranges. Just northwest is the Bull's Valley and northeast is the Pine Valley. Bordering a rivercouses, streams, that washes, and encircling Castle Yronwood as it empties into the Summer Sea.

Stone Way: The Boneway is a major pass that runs through the Red Mountains, connecting Dorne and the Stormlands. The Boneway is a colloquial name, with the Stone Way being its official name. Its Dornish side is guarded from the castle Yronwood, the seat of House Yronwood, which holds the title Warden of the Stone Way. During the conquest of Dorne, King Daeron I Targaryen used a goat track to evade the watchtowers of the Boneway.

History

House Yronwood is an ancient family who once ruled half of Dorne as the Kings of Yronwood, with domains significantly greater than House Martell of Sunspear, a fact the Yronwoods let no one forget. House Yronwood established itself in the high valleys and green foothills below the peaks and seized control of the Stone Way, the second of the two great passes into Dorne. Well protected and comparably fertile, their lands were also well timbered and possessed of valuable deposits of iron, tin, and silver, making them the richest and most powerful of the Dornish kings. The ancient Yronwood kings oft fought with the Stormlands, as seen when King Olyvar Yronwood invaded King Erich VII Durrandon's domain.

The Rhoynar Invasion: When the Rhoynar came to Dorne with Nymeria, they did not join House Yronwood but instead these newcomers joined House Martell, increasing the size of their host tenfold. Nymeria married and named herself and her husband, Mors Martell, Prince and Princess of Dorne, asserting their dominion over all of Dorne. Such supremacy was easier to declare than to achieve. Years of war followed. House Yronwood was their greatest foe. For nine years Mors Martel and his bannermen struggled against Yorick Yronwood and his bannermen, in battles too numerous to mention. When Mors Martell died at Yorick's sword, Nymeria took control of the armies. It took another two years of fighting but eventually, Yorick Yronwood bent the knee and the Yronwoods became the most powerful bannerman of House Martell. Though their relationship is uneasy at best. The Yronwoods also have a rivalry with House Fowler, who had supported the Martells in the war.

House Yronwood of the Boneway
Farien Yronwood
Farien Yronwood, the Lord of House Yronwood, and is very unlike his mother. Farien is a charming young man who takes more after his grandfather, Andreas Yronwood. He is considered one of the best looking men in Dorne and is an extremely skilled swordsman. Farien, due to his prodigal figure, is often used by his mother as an emissary to other houses. Farien, unlike his ruthless father, is a good man and tries to live up to standards that befit a man of his stature. Farien is the only one of the Yronwoods who has a close relationship with his uncle Morys's kin. Farien has not, however, come to understand the meaning behind his grandfather's words, "The End, Not the Means," something that causes constant friction between family members.
Lord of Yronwood
Linnet Yronwood
The Lady of Yronwood first strapped on her father's armor when her youngest was still suckling her breast. Because there was no one else to lead her troops against a large group of bandits that threatened her hold after the death of her husband, Lady Linnet discovered the bite of steel within her that she had kept polished in secert. She quickly blossomed into a tactician to be feared, as she demonstrated when she promptly dispatched the bandits.
Lady of Yronwood
Finnian Yronwood
The youngest sibling, Finnian is a young boy with serious issues. Already showing signs of sadism, Finnian killed a servant at the age of nine and has murdered four other commoners since, a secret that is guarded closely by the Lady of Yronwood. Very much the opposite of his brother, Finnian is a sociopath with little to no regard for human life, and has an almost unsatisfiable desire to cause harm to others. He is already showing signs of a skilled warrior.
