After the rescue

In reply to Joint (msg # 476):

Laney returned Joint's gesture with a nod and a half-smile.

"Hey, handsome. Good to see you, Ace, Luke and the others are ok. I was thinkin' your forgot how to use the radio. Yeah, I'll go talk to her.

"Arani, no problem. I'll see if we can get some help. But these folks look like "preppers" or survivalists and could have gone a little "cuckoo" now the Shit's Hit The Fan, or "SHTF" as my husband Greg called it. So I don't have my hopes up about any reciprocity or generosity. But people can surprise you, you know?"

Finishing up she said to the other group's leader, "hey, you lookin' for someone in charge? Well, what may I do you for? You got any plans? We could use a hand right now."

After the rescue

The gal with the sniper rifle didn't offer her name, but offered thanks. "Thanks for saving our asses." She then offered a reward for the help. "We'll give you one of the bags of guns and stuff we collected. I'll give you a second for the cargo truck. That blue pickup has no gas and you can keep the CB radio." She then made yet another offer. "We have a pretty secure place to stay and now we have some more guns to defend the place. Any of your people are welcome to come." She then mentioned the cultists. "Sounds like you guys know about those crazy cultists trying to snatch up women. We killed a few them that ran into us at that other range. The gun fire attracted the dead and we got stuck."

"After that we were pretty much fucked until you guys came along."

[Private to Eddie Thomas: Nobody looks like they have police training, and no one looks like they are going to cause trouble.]

After the rescue

In reply to Gal with Sniper rifle (msg # 479):

Laney dipped her head and smiled. "You're welcome, lady.

"Thanks for the bag of guns. I'll bring to my people the offer of the second bag for the truck, but I'd personally like to hang onto the second vehicle. Worse comes to worse we can tow the pickup to where we can siphon some gas outta an abandoned vehicles. All the ones here been scavenged but I get the feelin' there's gonna be a lot lyin' around, least for a while.

"As for a place to hole up, sure, we need someplace safe. And we found a few women here that were, uh, bein' held captive and sexually abused by a couple cultist fucks here. I heard another died and we should take care of the body.

"That's a fine job yall did, zapping those cultists. Funny as it sounds we were contracted to take out the cultists, who got some kinda base at Hoover Dam. After that our options are open."

After the rescue

In reply to Lakeisha 'Laney' Carmichael (msg # 480):

JP follows Laney glad to be out of the back of the MRAP. His arm hurt like hell though he could feel the meds he took working their magic as he stood in silence and listened to the exchange.

When the cultists are mentioned he raises his arm sightly before regretting it with a pained expression on his face adding "They shot us up before we could get the jump on them and popped one of their hostages in the process. I think we need ammunition more then anything else at the moment, do you know of anywhere else that might have some lying around if you don't have much to spare ?"

The woman cautiously eyes the machinegun being pointed at her. "Naw there ain't no need to tow the pickup. As you said there are more vehicles out there." The woman yells out to one of her men bring up the bags with guns in them. Both bags are brought up an unzipped for all to see. One bag has five rifles/SMGs in it and an equal number of handguns. The second bag contains a six tube grenade launcher a bunch of grenades for it, about a dozen canister style less then lethal grenades, and several gas masks. "Take your pick."

OOC: You'll get a more detailed inventory of whichever bag you choose.

"We didn't know where the cultists were holed up. Might be in our best interest to take them out together. You guys got some firepower with that machinegun and people, but we can offer more people."

Jonathan Pembersley:
"They shot us up before we could get the jump on them and popped one of their hostages in the process. I think we need ammunition more then anything else at the moment, do you know of anywhere else that might have some lying around if you don't have much to spare ?"

"Everyone needs ammo, why do you think we came here? We didn't get much in the way of ammo here. What we did get is needed to defend our safe haven. We got kids and old people there, people from all walks of life who were not allowed onto Nellis."

"If we join up to take out those cultists them yeah there'd be some sharing but you'd have to talk to our person in charge."

Re: After the rescue

In reply to Gal with Sniper rifle (msg # 483):

""OK, I think I understand. The one bag has about five rifles and submachineguns, five pistols. The other's got a six-shooter grenade launcher with some grenades, some... bean bags? Tear gas cannisters? Plus gas masks.

"Huh. If we got tear gas and a way to shoot it, plus gas masks, that sounds like somethin' useful for hostage rescue at the dam right there. But I'll let my people decide.

"We give yall a lift, yall gonna help out the hostages we freed here. Sounds like a fair deal, thank you. And regarding teaming up to take out the cultists at the dam, it seems like an obvious good idea but yall gotta bring it to your leader to decide, also fair.

All right, please excuse me for a second."

After the woman assented, she ambled over to the rest of the crew. She explained the deal on offer, then nodded at Joint. "Not sayin' nothin' 'bout nothin' but I say go for the bag with the grenade launcher, long as we got someone to use it. Even if we don't, it keeps a weapon that can take out our little armoured rig safe and out of someone else's hands, dig?

"We all got rifles and whatnot, we don't need more. We take out the cultists we can scavenge what they got, too."

In reply to Lakeisha 'Laney' Carmichael (msg # 484):

Listening to Laney and what the deal was with sniper girl and the bags of goodies he couldn't help but agree and his body language showed it.  Was a good idea keep the MRAP safe for as long a possible, Robert was probably the only one who could use the launcher properly, but it was a fairly simple point and blow stuff up operation.

"Help would be nice, we have some partial wounded and we are not even a couple days off the base.  If they have a secure location we could drop the girls off without having to worry to much about them, but F it might as well give it a go lets just be alert to any back stabbing.  And Laney I might be a proud man but not to proud to nice work to you are little band of sisters."

Re: After the rescue

In reply to Joint (msg # 485):

She smiled in appreciation at his comment, not wanting to overdo it or anything. "My pleasure, handsome."

It seemed to her that maybe they should figure out if they had a use for the grenade launcher or not, or at least if there was anyone in the group who was trained in its use.

Directing her mainly at Robert she asked, "anyone here know how to use a grenade launcher?"

Arani thought for a moment before replying.

- "Well, guns and ammo should pretty much be all over the place, 'nades are tougher to get your hands on though, and a launcher can throw 'em out farther than you can throw."

In response to Laney's question, she shook her head.

- "No, so if no one else can just hand it to the biggest guy in the team and have him look mean so we'll only have the zombies to deal with."

In reply to Arani Vasingis (msg # 487):

Joint raises an eyebrow and shifts his weight a little at Arani's comment about giving the biggest guy a grenade launcher. The fact that Rob didn't know how to use it was somewhat surprising, so much so Joint looked at him in the turret with his head cocked sideways.

"Well at least you are connoisseur of nose goblin delight, you just keep that fifty cal. company.  I am alright with Arani's idea, I just want someone keeping an eye on snipers and that kinda shit so I don't get merc'ed by long range fire.  Also we might need to get some instruction on how to use the damn thing, I am sure we could have you-tubed it but that is not an option...or is it?"

Should no one else volunteer Joint will take the grenade launcher.

"Anyone have any thoughts on giving up the 5-ton for the second bag, the one with guns in it? That was a side offer. They are going to give us one bag of our choosing, the second is on offer for the cargo truck (not the APC).

"Lastly, there's a dead woman in the range. I'm gonna grab her body, so we can bury it later."

Humans are just protein and you won't care if you're dead, right? My daddy said back in Nam they done never left no bodies behind. We won't be leavin' you, and we ain't leavin' her to get eaten.

"Movin' on, I should say we don't take the offer of the second bag of guns for the cargo truck. It's plenty useful to hang onto, gives us some options for mobility. Just my opinion."

Rob looks up and seems weirdly shocked. He says in a manner of fact tone,

"Well yeah of course were gonna start eatin on each other eventually most like but shit thats gonna be a few years down the road hopefully. I mean there is plenty out there for those willing to take it. I plan on being a taker. Its enevitable I reckon. I suppose that might one day put us at odds."

He then surprisingly hangs his head and favors his wounded arm.

"Awright, everyone. I'm gonna tell that fine lady we'll give them a lift, and we'll take the grenade launcher and stuff. But no for now on giving them the second truck.

Yep they were all the same, it was no wonder there were so few first response people kicking around, they had some twisted god complex and a A type personality.  Who gave a shit Laney kept going like this she was gonna get her self killed and definitely one or two along with her.

"I will grab the CB, that crap falls inside my wheel house, someone with a heater cover me while I have my back turned getting that out."

Re: After the rescue

Joint uses the MRAPs tool kit to remove the CB from the blue pickup. As he works on removing the unit, Joint finds that the idiot who installed it used some sort of heavy glue. Its was either a hot glue gun or that shoe goop stuff used to repair shoes. Thus a quick and easy 10-15 minute jobs takes 30 minutes to do.

Laney and TAB go inside the shed and see a few rats scurry away from one of the dead men whose stomach has been torn open by a much larger animal. A second dead man is missing an arm, also torn off by some larger animal. Laney finds the dead woman's body exactly where Jonathon had stated it to be, wrapped up in some plastic sheeting.
