Oh I thought of it. Just waiting for someone else to mention it so the players can blame you when/if it happens.

I hope the above isn't a political 'stab' at United States foreign policy.

I am only asking because I think I made clear to please leave real world politics out of the game.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving

In reply to Darkside Trooper (msg # 964):

If I may, this seemed to me to be good-natured riffing on a broad American cultural (not necessarily political) quirk as observed by us foreigners. Not targeting any part of the American political spectrum as such. (Granted, "Boondocks", which I love, certainly has a social and political point of view that is fairly central to its humour.)

But it's understood, I don't think anyone would be foolish enough to make what you would call actual "partisan" political humour critical of (say) specifically Democrats or Republicans. If that includes us saying nothing that could be construed as negative about Americans in general, that's good to know so no one accidentally crosses that line.

I hope at least our PCs can have political opinions as a function of RP, even if perhaps they are made obsolete by world events. (I am aware that at least a few players including myself and "Arani" are foreigners in some sense so we don't really have a dog in your political fights, either way.) Interestingly, this game is set in 2014 and so recent American political events are not a factor in this timeline.

As for me giving the GM ideas, that's something I constantly do much to my chagrin and that of my fellow players. At least you have (jokingly) warned us that this could hypothetically happen, which is decent of you, old boy. What would have been a true Evil GM Move(tm) on your part would be to do this but, you know, without any advance warning at all!

I don't run my games to discuss the politics of the world.

Someone wants to talk shit about my country I'm pretty sure I can find some shitty thing to talk about someone else's country. But I don't want to do that. I just want to run my game.

If someone wants to talk about real world politics, they can go find me on Facebook or email me.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving

In that case, I apologise. I read Laney's comment and figured the joke to be appropriate since it's unrelated to current world politics (you could have made that joke in the 1980's and it wouldn't have changed anything) and I assumed that the request not to bring real world politics into this meant I could still poke some fun at it on occasion in much the same way I wouldn't have taken offense at the favor being returned (the Netherlands btw).

Again, I didn't make that post to talk smack or troll Americans or anything, just me poking some fun at a nation stereotype in the same way "Three Mexicans walk into a bar" is the setup for a joke. Won't do it again.

Thanks.  There's just so much political BS and negative opinions of how other people choose to live in the news and social media that id like to keep it from on showing up in the games I run here in RPOL.

Basically I figure everyone is here to have fun and not discuss the bullshit of the real world.

I understand where you're coming from, although it wouldn't bother me overmuch if you did! I don't particularly want to discuss US politics in OOC. I don't really have a dog in that fight anyways.

If you prefer the PCs not be critical about America in any way, that could be something of a real challenge in roleplaying our characters (well, OK, perhaps just my character!) seeings how it's clear things are not particularly A-OK in the USA (in-game). (Actually, there are some bright spots compared to the run-of-the mill Zombie Apocalypse scenario.)

I just don't want to get in trouble because my character simply notes and comments on the obvious dystopian reality she is living in.

If your character is making anti-american, or anti-military comments in game that are a result of in game occurrences then that's fine.

For example IC Laney is not trusting of, or happy with the U.S. Military as a result of incidents that have occurred in game.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving

Regarding the exit, it looks like there is a cinderblock wall with a metal gate across the road. I imagine the Hesco barriers are just inside and flush with this, to reinforce it.

The walls to either side seem to be traffic barriers and chain-link fencing. Is this correct?

I'm aware that in-game reality might be different!

Thanks.

OK, so the traffic barriers on the side have been replaced by Hesco barriers, a "Berlin" wall a flaming moat (or all three). [Private to GM: I was thinking it might be a "ten-foot wall" but that would be a little too on the nose and thought better of it.]

Driving up, did we see anywhere back on Perimeter Road where we could cut cross-country?

Are the Hesco barriers at the gate filled with concrete or dirt/sand?

Probably shorter Hesco barriers on the sides.  There's probably plenty of places behind you where you could go cross country.

Somebody will have to look at what's in the hesco barriers

I was figuring roughly a 6x6x6 HESCO barrier loaded with loose grave weighs in a roughly 16 tons.  HESCO has a website that was fun to look at, it is actually a fascinating design, from a builders perspective.
