Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Zombies in Europe might be fun. There would be a possibility of interacting with numerous cultures and each nation could have varying degrees of success vs. the apocalypse. I read that in real life, Switzerland has all the highways into the country rigged with explosives to collapse the mountains and seal off the nation in the event of an emergency. Not sure if true, but Europe in general has lots to explore. Lots of great old architecture that has already withstood numerous wars. Castles would be ideal places to live in a zombie apocalypse...

Also, I'm hoping to get my character done by the end of this week. Also finishing up my character for a new PFRPG game too :)

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

In reply to Andrew (msg # 8):

Europe sounds like an idea if I end up getting multiple player groups (which might happen). The next Dead Reign book Pally is putting out is supposed to mention what happened in other parts of the world. Although I doubt they'd bother mentioning the fact that Switzerland might have the mountain passes rigged to blow.

No problem with taking time with character creation. We still need to figure out where the game is going to take place.

Oregon sounds good.  Grew up their, so I am familiar with the lay of the land.  On the coast it would be pretty easy to isolate a town.  Hwy 101 goes through alot of narrow places that one could block or even cause a landslide across.  Do that north and south.  In a lot places and there are only logging roads in and out.  GM, where did you go to high school?  Newport, Tilmook, Seaside?

Darkside Trooper:
Florence, Oregon

So, Siuslaw High School.  Played against them in the state basketball playoffs back in the 80's, an lost.  Love the Oregon Dunes and all the great lakes, there, right along the coast.  Been to the dunes to dune buggy and ATV, about a dozen times over the years.  Florence wouldn't be a bad place to be survive a Z-Apc. It would be very survivable.

Start of by blowing the bridge going over the Suuslaw river to Eugene.  Then tho one over the Siltcoos River to the south.  Then up on Hwy 101 to north.  Near the Sealion Caves,  where it is right on the ocean cliffs.  Fishing boats can be modified to run on bio diesel or even wood, so they can still go out fishing and do a ton of gardens feed, by irrigation ditches that are likely still there.  Taking in water upstream on the Siuslaw. I even found the likely location of McPhersen Towing and Wrecking.  At the present location of:

Florence Auto Wrecking
5055 Munsel Lake Rd, Florence, OR  97439

Otherwise know in this game as a Deathtrap.  But more surviverable if you could get away to the northeast, up by Merwin and Yale Lakes.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

It's amazing how big New York can be.  Yes, 6 million potential Zombies, but an evacuation and a police force of nearly 40,000 and National Guard assets, they may not have lasted viably as units but they would've put a sizable dent in the Z pop.  May be not in the City, or just outside of it.  Still, the resources in the City could be tempting...  There are numerous tunnels throughout the City -- I used to work down there.

I think the Pally folks just didn't want to have to a work up on such a vast space such as NYC.  That doesn't mean people didn't survive and get out, or a story of getting out.  And there are plenty of legal gun owners in NYC...and plenty of illegal guns...

I'm flexible though, so West Coast/Oregon sounds cool too.

Not too keen on Europe, especially since DST has another game set there already.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Only way out of New York City would be go down in the sewers to do it.  There, with everyone dying up above.  'Stuff' would be coming out of the pipes at a much lower rate.  It would be clear sailing, so to speak, down there.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Well take into account that only one zombie needs to howl to draw a small army to your location near instant even out in an open field you just cleared, by in how zombies work in this game inside a city its even worse.

Keeping that in mind even if half of the zombies in a capitol city are wiped out it means a group of humans is cornered with nowhere to go and a few thousand zombies ready for lunch.

Also those 40k soldiers are nice but i think you have to look at the 28 days later movie. a quarter of those soldiers will be eaten before they realize whats going on. the other half will panic and the rest just aint enough to really matter. there are simply to many of them and them Zeds are resilient. And that is if the virus only spread with the patient zero idea. if the initial infection is something like an airborne virus who knows how many are infected right of the bat.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Easiest way to kill tons of Z's in a city.  Is at a building construction site, of a sky scraper that is not to far along.

When it is still in the 'Pit' stage.
http://blogs.kcrw.com/whichway...SC07001-1024x575.jpg
Gain access to the crane.  Put a couple of people in a cranebasket, about eight feet out from the edge.  Make a hole in the fence, surrounding the site.  Lure the zombies to just walk off the edge, to fall to 40-50 feet below..  When it gets a little full there, just move the crane basket over a little, etc.  You could fill the pit to about 15 feet from the top.  Or just do a burn every once in awhile.

If the building is further along like this one.
http://www.bing.com/images/sea...&selectedIndex=5
Just create a path/cattle chute that takes them up to at least the 4th or 5th stories up.  Using the cranebasket to the same effect, to lure them to just walk off the edge and fall, shattering their skulls.  Can be moved in the same way, when things are piling up.

If you don't plan on using the sewers.  You can also funnel them to fall down into an open sewer hole in the street.  Less bodys piling up and stinking up the place.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

In reply to New guy 3 (msg # 19):

I don't realistically see a large proportion of military personnel panicking, even if they take heavy losses. For one thing, this isn't the dark days after Viet Nam, American unit morale is excellent and the ability to absorb casualties and keep functioning is excellent due to modern training and doctrine. For another, as studies show (and military personnel will tell you) nothing motivates a diverse group of people like a shared, dire threat and especially an existential enemy. It's pretty easy to grasp what kind of threat to humanity the living dead pose!

But that's taking real life studies and histories into account, mind you. In zombie fiction (and for preppers/survivalists) the normal mode in disasters for most people is "everyone freak out, loot and run away". Which is more desirable depends on if you want to have "WWZ" or "The Walking Dead", and both have their good points.

Tony I envision U.S. Military units (as well as their counterparts around world) to at least stand up to the Zombie horde. Unfortunately the sheer numbers of Zombies would just be too much to handle.

Works for me! Now, on to my character.

Okay! A roll of 53 is paramedic, not too shabby, and in their 30's. So, what options are there? I guess it depends on the location. But could be a local civilian service, police or fire EMS, even military (according to the ordinary person occ).

In conjunction with Jason it could be an air ambulance crew.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Ok so with 12 RTJs I'm looking at 2-3 player groups.

Location will determine starting gear and weapons. I might make some tables for the weapons. This way there is some randomness and everybody isn't packing the same thing.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

I tend to wait until a location is chosen to complete my characters, but so far I've rolled a Paramedic pretty boy/girl.

If the group is mostly dudes I'm happy to play a woman.
