Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

I've noticed so far there's mostly men so I'm going to play a female. I rolled psychiatrist and am waiting until a location is chosen before finishing her character.

Got a security specialist.  Going to do the former thief turned red cell security type.

If we can have a second/backup character I would like to make one.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

OK so it looks like I will be running the West coast, and Las Vegas groups for sure (hmm...maybe down the line I can get the two to join up...).

The NYC group only has 2 people with it as their 1st choice. But keep in mind that I have received 13 RTJ's.

I'm going to want to limit each group to 4 (maybe 5) characters, so odds are the NYC group will happen.

I am also leaning on the idea that all groups will start out just as the dead begin to rise. Should have some interesting RP with characters using only what they've seen in movies as an idea on how to fight/deal with Zombies. Oh and most everyone will have to scrounge for weapons/supplies. Some occupations will have you start with a weapon, and that's fine cause it makes sense.

Sounds groovy!

Nevada has very liberal gun and CCW laws, although probaly not for EMS as a matter of policy.

I'd say there is a 15% chance your allowed to carry while on duty during this 'crisis', although rioting hasn't broken out yet. I've heard that quite a few paramedics in California wear body armor.

In reply to Darkside Trooper (msg # 37):

I'll decide if Laney is armed or not. She at least will have a stab vest.

Interestingly, the "Shelter in Place" order in effect for much of Boson during the manhunt for the bombers seemed to be highly effective and almost universally obeyed. Police were given voluntary permission to search thousands of private residences by implicitly turning a blind eye to drug and other violations. I would think such measures (equivalent to Martial Law in all but name) would be adopted in the current in-game crisis with a fair degree of effectiveness.

You got that right.  I would of envoked my 4th amendment rights and told them they needed probable cause, an a warrant from a judge.  To get in my house.  I couldn't believe people just layed down and let themselves be run rough shot over.  That was so very much a false flag operation.  A totally stagged event.

Ha ha ha ha! You guys are awesome! Please note, as a Canadian I will render no personal judgement about what happened in Boston on a pro-security or anti-liberty basis; that's for other, wiser heads to decide and I have no dog in that particular fight.

Added the following to character creation in regards to skill level

All skills should be leveled up to whatever level you rolled for. Ignore what the book says about not leveling up your elective and secondary skills.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Argh, sorry.

Stuff happened, my screen went and glitched up in a hardware issue. Not fixed yet mind you as i still have a horizontal bar on my screen that won't go away, but at least it's not deactivating itself or something.

So where was i? Ah yes, making the first rolls.

Sucks to hear about your monitor! So far, this is something of a wiener-fest in here.

Whew, finally got my character more-or-less in shape, including background. Yay!

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Jsut an FYI, do not roll the 1d4 for level from the book. Otherwise you might end up with a 50 year old character who is at level one, which is just absurd.

Let's say 1301, and it's Sunday May 4th 2014. This way you guys have a whole summer and fall before winter.

17:44, Today: Darkside Trooper rolled 4 using 1d31. day of month? (May 2014).
17:45, Today: Darkside Trooper rolled 1 using 1d60. time.

Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

In reply to Darkside Trooper (msg # 52):

Some combat questions:

1) Parry costs 1 attack, and applies to all attacks during that action. To clarify, that means not that 1 parry applies to all attacks during the turn but (say) if someone was making multiple attacks per action all

2) Can you dodge/parry an attack that rolls a natural 20?

3) Called single shots to the head are not specifically covered. I assume heads are small (-3) targets but not very small (-6/-8)?

Thanks!

In reply to Jonathan Pembersley (msg # 54):

To further clarify, in the book Parrying doesn't cost an attack if the target has any hand-to-hand training. If H2H: Basic counts, is Laney qualified for this exemption? Or is the house rule that a parry do costs an attack? Thanks!

Tony I think question three is answer on page 37 of the rule book. You have to roll 17-20 with no bonuses.

A parry does not 'cost an action.'

Roll one parry for each action you have. That one parry roll covers all attacks against you during that action that can be parried (for example in most circumstances you can't parry a bullet).

quote:
2) Can you dodge/parry an attack that rolls a natural 20?

If you roll Natural 20 yes, defender wins a tie. I've seen it happen.

quote:
3) Called single shots to the head are not specifically covered. I assume heads are small (-3) targets but not very small (-6/-8)?

Yes the head is -3 to strike
