Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

Behind them coming from western avenue is a horde of over 40 crazies. Three of them are actually running towards the two vehicles.....

Ahead, coming from the direction of the rail road tracks are almost 20 crazies. Five of these are actually running towards the two vehicles...

Off in the distance (about a quarter mile to the south) a pair of military helicopters can be seen flying over the city in a westerly direction.  https://upload.wikimedia.org/w...%287125012961%29.jpg

In reply to Darkside Trooper (msg # 514):

Seeing the odds, Laney shook her head. It looked like they were heading east.

"We never should have come back here, now we got forty geeks behind us and twenty in front. Maybe not the best plan, Maria Delores, but you never did say what you saw back there.. Well, twenty's better'n forty, so lead the way. Mind them sprinters."

She noted the choppers on the reverse course. Greg had been in the Army, and he called them "helos" for some reason. Either way, they may as well be on Mars.

On a slender hope she veered right so the truck was pointed in the direction of the aircraft, then began hitting the high beams and fog lights on the truck. She shrugged out of her reflective Paramedic-issue safety vest. She handed that and her flashlight to the girl.

"Annabelle, girl, take these and wave 'em out the window. They'll be passing by your side. Try and get those choppers' attention. Look in the glove box, should be a roadside emergency kit there with flares and reflectors."

It was a slender hope but what other chance did they have?

Driving, following the F150 and trying to avoid the crazies.

20:14, Today: Lakeisha 'Laney' Carmichael rolled 78 using 1d100 with rolls of 78.  Drive Check, truck (96%).

"Sure let me have a look." Annabelle looked through the glove compartment and retrieved the items. If she was able she set off one of the flares and waved a reflective panel around to try and get the helicopters attention. When any of the runners get within range she will concentrate on taking them out, dropping the flare to steady her aim.

Staying low and trying not to make himself a target J.P watched the area around the truck as a route or plan was decided on and they headed off. He kept his automatic ready should it be needed as he watched for possible targets.

Giving Laney a nod, Maria began heading in the direction of the horde in front of them. She wasn't setting a fast pace, and going by how she was driving she was trying to pull the sprinters too far ahead of the pack where they could be taken care of without getting caught playing the numbers game.

- "When did my life turn into a bad survival horror movie?"

She took a deep breath before letting out an audible sigh, and turned the car so those inside would have a good shot at the sprinters, old fashioned broadside style. Hey, what worked for eighteenth century naval battles had to still work out every once in a while, right?

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

The fast moving crazies head straight towards the two vehicles.

From the rear (though the rearview mirrors or looking behind) two approach the rear of the Ford F150, and one approaches the rear of the Ryder moving truck.

From the front three approach the Ryder moving truck and two approach the Ford F150.

Somehow either James or Annabelle has gotten the attention of the military helicopters. Both turn to heads towards the vehicles. But they won’t get there in time to deal with the fast moving crazies who are now only 50 feet away…..

Almost weeping with relief, Laney exclaimed, "Annabelle! You did it girl! Praise Jesus and thank the Lord!" They weren't out of the woods yet, no sir, but there did seem to be some daylight.

Laney slowed down as well. If the helos could help them, they wouldn't need to fight their way through the mob in front.

She pulled in behind the F150, keeping her distance. "Annabelle, I hope you're a good shot. You're gonna have to help those folks out. Try to aim carefully now, take one or two down. Got it?"

She yelled at the people in back, "HEY! Y'ALL, We got help on the way! Just be ready to get out the side door!"

Annabelle dropped the flare once she was sure the helicopters had seen them. Though she did not share Laney's optimism that the helicopters would pick them up at least someone knew they were out here and the city was not a total loss. She raised her handgun again once she saw how close the crazies had gotten to the front of the truck aiming as she fired off another four shots.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

Maria and Laney drive their respective vehicles in circles in order to avoid the fast moving crazies. Two fast moving crazies manage to reach the Ryder moving truck. One bounces off the side of the vehicle whiel the other manages to grab onto the left rear bumper and is dragged along after losing its footing.

Annabelle fires on one of the fast moving crazies and hit’s it in the chest. The bullet impact only slows the crazed person down, but it’s enough for her to line up a second shot and shoot it in the head, taking it down. She then fires at a second fast moving crazy and hit it in the head.

Johnathan takes a shot at a fast moving crazy and misses.

James also fires on the approaching fast moving crazies. His first shot misses but his second shot hits blowing away a jaw. Still up and running he puts a third round into the body of the crazy.

The sound of the helicopters fills the air. One helicopter hovers above the two trucks filled with survivors. The second helicopter fly’s at a higher altitude in a circle. Bothe helicopters open up with machineguns mounted on mounted on their sides. The machine gun fire is directed towards the horde of approaching crazies from both sides. None of the machine gun fire is directed at the fast moving crazies.

Having taken out the two in front Annabelle looks to the rear and sees the crazy chasing the truck she lines him up aiming for the head and fires once she feels she has a good shot. "Might be that the cavalry has arrived Laney ?" It was a long shot that they were saved, but best to hope in these situations.

J.P. twisted in his seat and aims for one of the crazies that were still chasing the F150. He feels the pain and a copper tang taste in his mouth as he tries to suppress the injury and hit one of the things chasing them.

"Great driving Maria just three behind now."

He could not help but watch the machine gun fire smacking into the crazies ranks from the helicopters. Hopefully it would be enough to give them a break.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

The roar of the helicopter engines and thumping rotors filled the truck cab. Laney noted that the soldiers were being careful not to accidentally rake them with machinegun fire.

She winked at Annabelle in return. "You're God-damn right the US Cavalry is here! But the Lord helps those who help themselves, so shoot straight."

Laney yanked the wheel to the right, hopefully throwing the crazy hanging onto the remains of the bumper on the left off, while giving Annabelle a clear shot at the fast mover on the right.

Then, if the crazy hanging onto the bumper had been thrown off, she completed a half-turn to give Annabelle a clear shot at that one as well.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

Laney continues to drive in a circle to try and toss the crazy hanging on off the vehicle. The thing says on.

Annabelle takes aim and fires at the crazy near the Ryder moving truck, hitting it in the head. With that threat gone she fires at the crazy hanging on the back of the vehicle. Her first shot hit the crazy’s body but it continues to hang on. Her second shot hit the side of the Ryder moving truck.

Maria stops the Ford 150 so James and Jonathan can both get better shots off. Jonathan takes a shot and misses. James shoots one crazy in the head and then a second, taking both down. The last fast moving crazy runs up to the bed of the pickup truck only to have its head bashed in by Juan’s baseball bat.

The two military helicopters lower themselves to the ground, on either side of the two vehicles and putting themselves between the horde of crazies and the vehicles. The machineguns on the outside continue to fire while those on the inside are raised skyward. From each helicopter an airman steps out and waves the occupants of the vehicles over.

Know that sticking around would be a bad idea the vehicles are quickly emptied, and people begin to pile on the helicopters. Once everyone is on board, the helicopters rise into the air and fly east. The U.S. Airforce crew on each helicopter is wearing bulky chemical biological warfare gear, and MCU-2/P gas masks.

The noise of the helicopter makes it impossible to talk or speak to anyone.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

Stopping the car for a moment had been a gamble, but a correct one as the crazies were easily dealt with once those in the bed of the truck had a way of stabilizing their aim. The helicopters seemed to thin 6the herd nicely as well, which was an honest relief as trying to plow through them was something she hadn't been looking forward to, especially with Laney's truck in the condition it was in. If it broke down 'on the run'...

Once the runners were down and the helicopters touched down, she needed little encouragement to jump out of the car and helping a few other people out before making her way to one of the helicopters as well. The soldiers wearing NBC suits concerned her -- were they infected? -- but for now she chose to remain quiet. After the stress of being on the run, with madness breaking loose everywhere, the others deserved to take a breather knowing they were getting somewhere safe.

In reply to Darkside Trooper (msg # 532):

Hitting the brakes, Laney stopped the wounded truck.

After the last crazy was dealt with she grabbed Annabelle and gave her a big hug. "You were wonderful, girl! I'm so glad we met!"

She then grabbed her paramedic bag and, unclipping her holster, stuffed the half-empty Glock and empty magazine inside. Getting out of the truck she reassured the people inside the box it was safe to come out, although she needed to yell over the sound of the helos' rotors and engines. She slipped back into her vest and slung her bag so she was ready to travel.

Helping everyone into the helos, she counted off to make sure they had everyone. She wasn't surprised at the NBC suits and masks; Maria Delores and herself had worn similar civilian gear (yellow Tyvek biohazard suits) that morning as they attended a patient pickup call at Caesar's Palace. Holy shit, that was a lifetime ago! No doubt the soldiers (airmen, technically) were taking similar precautions, not that she blamed them.

Laney tried to look reassuring to everyone, but she wondered where they were going. She looked around for a set of headphones or a flight helmet that would give her access to the intercom.

OOC: I hope someone takes out the last crazy and everyone inside the truck was ok, or at least mobile?

With a grunt and a short rest while inhaling rapidly J.P was out of the truck. He safeties his handgun as he waits for the others to assemble before making his way to the helicopters. Grabbing his pack out of the truck he holds it by its handle and looks around before making his way over the car park. J.P holds his chest with his left hand he puts his handgun in the leg pocket of his cargo pants and takes the cartridge out of the chamber.

Once in the helicopter he either takes a seat or props himself against the rear wall out of the way of the door gunners. He holds his pack between his legs and uses it to try and stabilize his ribs as they prepare to take off. He looks over to Laney and gives a thumbs up and a smile as they lift off.

Annabelle returns Laneys hug and tries not to hit her in the head with her handgun. "Me to. I suspect I would be dead right about now if we had not." She got out of the truck and looked around while Laney opened the rear of the Ryder truck.

Once everyone was on their way to the helicopter she gave her bike a forlorn look before she safeties her automatic and holsters it. Turning to run towards the transport she stops and grabs her bike and puts it on top of the Ryder truck making sure it is in the middle of the rear box. With that done she climbs aboard the helicopter.
