J.P crossed the suite having grabbed his back pack and gave the the room a quick glance so he had not left anything. He then went to the front door:

"Yes, cool I think I am ready to go. Should we try and contact the army guys out front ?"

He stood in the doorway of his suite wearing his backpack with the chair leg club in his hand

In reply to Jonathan Pembersley (msg # 37):

Laney was waiting for him, a paramedic in a red vest marked with reflective tape and "PARAMEDIC" on the back, khaki shirt, dark pants, boots. Her expression was easy to read, despite the face shield and mask (. She wanted to GTFO! But she remained calm as she led Jonathan back towards the elevator where Marie waited. "This way, sir. Careful where you step. That's right, you're doing fine.

"I'm Laney, what's your name? And would you mind helping me with the stretcher? There are no stairs between us and the Ambulance, but you never know."
She handed Jonathan a light green paper face mask and a pair of purple Nitrile gloves.

OOC: It's a good thing it doesn't sound like Jonathan has any hand-carried bags.

J.P was dressed in cargo shorts and a rugby type jersey with the words "Itchy" and "Vegas" on the back. It also had some sort of crest on the front.

"Oh, my name is J.P. Um.. sure I can give you a hand. Hopefully the lift is working."

He looks the stretcher over and the victim on it.

"A couple of my mates went to look after one of my friends at the hospital. Hopefully they are still there. I think the security guy is checking something on the terrace."

OOC: No J.P only has the one bag.

She helped him with the mask and smiled.

"Oh, this one's hooked to the emergency genny." She looked worried as the sounds of combat outside kept increasing, near constant pops merging with echoing booms. She handed him a pair of earplugs.

"OK. The plan is we're gonna head down to the main floor. VIP entrance is right there. The Ambulance is parked right outside the entrance. Put in them earplugs when we get in the elevator. Otherwise, the shooting could damage your hearing."

OOC: That's great, because if he had extra bags she'd politely take them, then chuck them down the hall as far as she could."

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

Jacob gets no answer to his repeated calls over the radio to security or any other member of the casino who might have access to a radio. Trying to call on a ohone reveals that the lines is busy.

Lany likewise gets the same result with her cell phone. The radio seems to be dead with no one replying either.

Lany, Jonathan, Laney and the rolling stretcher carrying Marie squeeze into the elevator. The floor, walls and ceiling of the elevator all all covered in blood.

Lany uses her fire/EMS key to bring the elevator down to the main floor elevator lobby. The elevator opens up to a scene of carnage and death, some of which is still occurring. Nine people lie on the ground un-moving. Three people are standing about ten feet away. As they turn around from a body slides down off the wall. All three people seem to be in the same state as the ones Lany and Jonathan dealt with up on the 5th floor.

Almost in unison, the three people let out an eerie moan and begin to approach the open elevator....

OOC: Jacob, since you haven't actually seen a 'live' Zombie yet I need you to make a horror factor roll. Get a 13 or higher on a 1d20. Fail and you lose your 1st action.

The Zombies won't get to the elevator (i.e. you guys) until action 3.

As they rode the elevator down, they exchanged names and Laney gave Jacob his own mask, gloves and earplugs. She cautioned Jacob to aim for the head, bullet wounds to the body wouldn't work. Her plan (such as it was) was she would push the gurney while Jacob cleared the way and Jonathan followed and helped her. "Remember to shoot for the head. Nothin' else seems to work."

She also handed Jonathan Marie's red reflective PARAMEDIC vest. "Just while you're helping me. Put your earplugs in, fellahs, it could get pretty loud out there."

When the door opened she saw the approaching infected and saw in horror that they'd just killed someone. She put her own ear plugs in and moved out into the marble-halled foyer. "You all! Stop right there!" They didn't stop. Picking her targets,

J.P's eyes go wide as the elevator doors open and the scene of carnage unfolds before them.

"Oh... fuck me."

He is at the back of the elevator having been the first to enter. J.P readies his club and looks for a way to exit quickly if things do not go their way.

At the paramedics warning J.P puts his hands over his ears and tries to steady himself for the gun fire.

The gunfire is deafening for anyone not wearing earplugs as Lany and Jacob shoot at the three people. Lany is slow and sure with her shots, while Jacob went for gettign moe rounds out of his pistol.

Neither method is enough to stop down the moaning people. But getting shot in the head cause them to slow down, just a bit. Lany and Jacob's combined gunfire bring down one person just as she reaches the elevator. Lany then presses her gun to the forehead of a second woman and pulls the trigger.

The third person then begins to bite, flail and punch as he tries to get into the elevator.

Jacob does the same trick the paramedic did and presses his gun up against the head of the crazed just as the crazed man punches Jacob in the chest.

The crazed man falls tot he ground while Jacob rubs his chest where he was struck.

Looking at the paramedic then to the tourist Jacob explains himself before leaving. "I gotta check on the other hotel staff you guys get outta here."

Jonathan pulled his hands off his head and put in the earplugs as instructed:

"Sure ... yes, yes I am with you."

It was hard, but he could just make out what the casino security guard was saying. He gave the man a low wave as he moved off.

He looked at the bodies all around them to see if they had any weapons while trying not to heave up his lunch due to all the gore and blood. Jonathan stuck close the ambulance woman as they moved through the casino and he tried not to make any noise or bring attention to them.

It was a short walk through the ground floor lobby to the VIP entrance off Flamingo. The Augustus tower was one of the buildings that, thankfully, did not require one pass through a casino to enter or exit.

"OK. You go first, I'll push. The doors should open automatically. We're parked just outside. It's an ambulance, can't miss it. We parked with the rear doors facing the VIP entrance, 'cause we knew we'd have someone on a stretcher for transport."

She flipped up the clear face shield and pulled down the mask, and smiled at Jonathan. Laney had a warm smile, and she tried to give Jonathan strength and boost his spirits.

"All right, Ace! You're doin' fine. Just out the doors, turn right, the rig will be parked right there. Easy-peasy."

Relieved they weren't going to have to fight their way to the rig, Laney directed the gurney to the rear doors. Unlocking them, she disengaged the catch on the stretcher and pushed it in.

"Take out your earplugs, it's okay now. Come on, climb in the back." She checked on Marie again, while hooking up the IV and heart and blood oxygen monitors.

Laney handed Jonathan a white disposable plastic Tyvek suit. "Put this on. Keep an eye out." She slid into the driver's seat and switched on the MTS terminal. This was mainly how MedicWest communicated with their units in the field. If she was going to contact dispatch, this was going to be how it happened. At the very least, data would be logged in regarding medical centres that were still operational, instructions from the Las Vegas Fire Dept. (who oversaw the ambulance services) or even bulletins from the Metro Police, the state governor, National Guard or even FEMA.

"My first preference would be the ER at University Medical Center. 'Bout 4-5 miles north. Not many fever patients were bein' takin' there to avoid trauma medical personnel being swamped, but some were. If not there, maybe some army medical station."

Added: As the terminal was booting up, she pulled out, heading west on West Flamingo towards the I-15 Overpass. There was no on-ramp there, but the area was relatively clear and they could pause to make a plan without getting rushed.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

The MTS terminal gives out explicit instructions to avoid any medical facility. The update is roughly 10 minutes old from Las Vegas Fire Dept. There are no updates from the Metro Police, but updates from both FEMA and the National Guard indicate that Nellis Air Force Base is the designated fall back point, and that all military, police and EMS units should begin to head there.

Pulling onto Flamingo Ave the National Guard vehicle are still shooting at crazed people to the east, but some vehicles appeared to be 'buttoned up' (that is all doors/hatches closed) and were heading west on Flamingo. The drivers of these vehicles are not driving in a panicked state unlike several civilian vehicles also headed toward I-15.

Several crazed people rush the military vehicles and civilian cars and are simply ran over by their drivers wanting to get away from the strip.

OOC: Lany, I need a Roadwise skill roll or a perception roll from you.

J.P caught a glimpse of the screen and the warning about medical facilities. It made sense if people were coming back to life that a hospital was probably not the safest place to be.

He held on for dear life as the ambulance joined the other vehicles in what seemed like a mad dash to safety. As people began running into the road J.P got lower in his seat and brought his legs up towards his chest waiting for what he thought would be an inevitable impact.

Re: Las Vegas, Nevada

While trying to avoid the crazed people running towards the ambulance several smash their fists into the side as it drives by. Each impact sounds as if a baseball bat (or some other hard object) and not fists was striking the vehicle.

As they get near the freeway on ramp, Lany can tell that's it's a large traffic jam where several fender benders have already occurred. But what's more horrifying is that the crazed people are banging on the cars, breaking windows, and them climbing in to attack people. Several soldiers can be seen trying to fight back with their rifles, using them like bayonets and or clubs.

[Private to Lakeisha 'Laney' Carmichael: -24 SDC to the ambulance

Your road wise roll saved you from getting trapped on the freeway on ramp.

Feel free to take an alternate, non freeway route to your place of work.

The Medic West yard was west of the Interstate. Better to be on that side of the Interstate.

"Do me a favour, Ace. Get in back, tell me if anyone's comin' up. Got an idea."

She checked the overpass to see if it was clear or blocked.

He thought for a minute as he stood up in the back:

She slowed down to about 10 MPH. Placing her Glock on the dashboard, she switched on the ambulance's lights and sires. Continuing to slowly cruise west, she hoped to draw off or decoy away some of the crazies down below along with her, away from the folks (and soldiers) trapped on the on and off ramps to the east (the northbound lanes).
