Revenge Game Thread Part 3

Nine times out of all, Croak enjoyed moments when he could observe unobserved himself. As time on his privacy ticked away inside of him, so much happened that only made the melee'r oddly...anxious.

He was impressed at the warrior attempted to rush into the room. Had she not heard his warning? Was she looking to rush the crossbowman...for his sake? They were certainly unsuccessful, but the bravery was noted. And respected.

As a wolf materialized to maul the marksman, Croak watched the wild splashes of color blind a couple more of these strange, armored men as more of the adventurers raced into the room. A robed man, a hunter, and a vociferous gnome who spoke in a strange way. Was that the one shouting the strange tongue? Was "tpk" some sort of tactical code between them?

He could always ask him later. Once they got out of here. Once he got out of these chains.

As a shadow rising from stone, Croak stood back up into existence. The chains at his wrists became taught once again. His physique twisted like teeth into gears, building tension from his hip to his ankle. Cranked and ready, Croak would try again, to mash the manacles against the wall, to free himself, to keep any more of this group from getting hurt. Granted he could already Smell death on them.

*KKAK-KAK-KEK!!*

Greater Invisibility ends

Full Round: Trying to crack these chains!

ATTACK: Rolled 25,22,3 using d20+5,d20+5,d20 to hit chains (Unarmed, Unarmed, Slam).
DAMAGE: Rolled 10,9,5 using d8+2,d8+2,d4+2 for damage (Unarmed, Unarmed, Slam).

Zaineb rolled closer to the enemy on the right and quickly recited the words for a spell. Bluish bolts of lightning danced over her palm and fingers and she reached for the deathwalker's foot, but missed by inches.

ooc: Sorry, I was convinced I had posted :(

Move: 5ft closer to DW to her right.
Std.: Cast Shocking Grasp. Touch attack 10, assumed miss unless the target wears metal armor, which grants +4 to hit. Spell not discharged (but held for next round).

Revenge Game Thread Part 3

DW 1-2 wear leather armor. DW 3-4 wear Thratiam mail armor. http://badaew.narod.ru/trakian/bodya_main.htm

Zaineb rolls after getting healed again by Varlian. As she rolls, she casts a spell but fails to connect with the Deathwalker to deliver its shocking effects.

Boddynock tries to spray the dazzling colors at another Deathwalker but the Deathwalker fails to be affected.

Croak reappears from his invisible state and appears to still be trying to break the unreleasing manacles. The masterwork restraints continue to hold under the attack.

Breonna directs a massive attack against the Deathwalker that appears to want to attack Boddynock using her animals and her sling. The Deathwalker takes some damage from the conjured wolf and sling bullet.

Tom turns around abruptly; having not not seen Croaks reappearance. He rushes to Zaineb's aid, and attacks the Deathwalker hovering over her with his magic sword. He's able to damage the Deathwalker just before the Deathwalker tries to skewer Zaineb again.

Edgrin continues to look concernedly over his shoulder as he guards the halls.

The surrounded Deathwalker (3) casts a spell.
(Spell = Bane. Everyone make a Will Save, please. Fail a DC 13 and  takes a -1 penalty on attack rolls and a -1 penalty on saving throws against fear effects.)

The Deathwalker who is attacked by Tom continues its attack on Zaineb. The tip of the longspear again finds an opening, and does a bit more damage to the downed warrior.

Make sure you make your Will Save before you continue your turn. Everyone can go again.

ooc: Does the spell casting provoke an AoO, or does he cast defensively? Also, Zaineb closed in on DW2, which means she's adjacent hence the longspear cannot be used unless he takes a step back. I don't find his icon has moved, nor did you move Zaineb's icon 5ft closer.

Zaineb grit her teeth, determined not to die lying on the floor like a worm. Rolling with the deathwalker she reached out and this time managed to grab his ankle. Crackling the electricity discharged into the man...

ooc: Assuming the man took a step back to continue his attack, Zaineb moves 5ft to keep up. If he did not move, Zaineb can stand up and does not have to suffer an AoO as she's too close for him to use his longspear.

16:07, Yesterday: Zaineb rolled 18 using 1d20+4.  Will save DC13.

Move: 5ft towards DW2
Std.: Touch attack 16, damage 16pts electricity damage

In reply to Zaineb (msg # 18):

The DW casts the spell. I'll not tell you how the DW is able to do that. You don't know what his abilities (feats or any other special abilities) are.

Not to sound obnoxious, or like I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but I do the best I can with mapping the battle scene. Many things lap over each other which makes it difficult to get the layering right. Wix isn't very good with layering. If you want perfect mapping we can always use Roll20 for mapping. I believe several players said they couldn't or wouldn't use Roll20 for some reason or other. So, this is the best you get in mapping and I admit it isn't perfect.

ooc: Chronicler, my bad for not being clear with my request. I was not fishing for the DW's abilities, I wanted to make sure nothing was overlooked as this seems to become a tough fight and an AoO may make a difference for us. About the mapping, my comment was not a complaint, I am very happy with this game and I appreciate the effort you put into it. I try to be precise with my character's actions, do my best to operate within the rules so sometimes I am looking for details to make the most of the limited actions for the character. What you may have considered criticism was merely my request for more information. I tried to ascertain how the opponents managed to hit Zaineb when she had moved out of reach of DW1 and within DW2's adjacent square, preventing him from attacking her. There was no info on movement for them in the descriptive text AND there was no indication they had moved visible on the map. Hence my question. Again, my apologies if this came across as being nitpicky or annoying, this was never my intention.

Revenge Game Thread Part 3

Croak grunted, strained, fought against his binds with endless relentlessness. These things were tough!

Almost as tough as these guys, it seemed.

These bone-capped cultists were really working this group over while he was still tied up like a hog ready for the feast. When was the last time he'd been in this sort of situation? He couldn't remember...

Just before Croak unleashed another flurry of attacks against his chains (of all the things), he felt a wave of terror threat his presence. It was awfully all-consuming, and he most certainly didn't like it. It was already bad enough he was restricted, nearly shot to death as plainly as pigeon hunting, relying on a group that he was sent to help, and helpless to do naught but watch them struggle. Now he was to be subjected to an unseen force invading his very thoughts. He slowed down the moments around him, reaching into his mind to flick a very particular switch.

No.

Something inside his mind *clicked*, a spark of clarity fighting back the fog of fear. He settled into the peace, into the calm, into the moment. In a second of perfection, Croak didn't fight. Now was not the time.

He focused deeper to his inner self, shifting styles, modifying methods. Some techniques were turned on and off as he adjusted for the newest variables.

For the Will Save: 16

Immediate Action: Using Boost; Moment of Perfect Mind (Concentration check for Will save). Forgot to include the roll for the con check, which netted a 12 so just added the difference (+4) between the Will save and Concentration to get a total of 16.

Full-Round Action:
Using Adaptive Style to reset and rearrange maneuvers.

Will Save 6

What a strange sensation.  The gnome wasn’t so exited all of a sudden.  His worry for those swept away seemed to expand to all of them.  That poor prisoner was stuck too.  As he tried to process his ‘feelings’, he switched wands and blasted the prisoner.

Move:  as needed for LoS or Range
Action: Enlarge on Croak.  Let’s see if that helps him escape.

Breonna's sling bullet kills the flanked Deathwalker (3).

Zaineb kills the Deathwalker (2) beside her.

Boddynock tries to enlarge Croak. (I'll need a Fort Save from Croak).

With the last Deathwalker incapacitated, I believe this will end combat. Of course, you'll need to deal with the last DW and with the prisoner <Orange>(Croak)

XP is 300 each.

Varlian XP = 11075
Breonna XP = 4975
Zaineb XP = 7775
Boddynock XP = 7500
Croak XP = 6300

Revenge Game Thread Part 3

As quickly as it had started, the chaos of combat ended. All opponents were on the ground and the sounds of battle stopped, only the labored breathing and growling of the canines remained, mixed with the noise of rustling chains. Zaineb's eyes scanned the room for a threat to her life and that of her companions, but there didn't seem to be one.

Still on the ground the desert warrior exhaled and with it she relaxed for a moment. Her muscles ached from the exertion as the adrenaline rush subsided and left her drained. Luckily she had survived her brush with death at the hands of these strange creatures, thanks to her comrades. It was an uneasy truth to accept she had to rely on them protecting her, when it was she who had sworn to protect them. Zaineb closed her eyes for a few heartbeats, blocking out the sounds in the room and calming herself.

Eventually she felt ready to face the world again and got back to her feet. "Everyone alright?" she asked while she picked up the strange polearm she had dropped when the defenders had tripped her. The scorpion guard looked around, giving her companions a once over with her eyes to make sure they would not collapse from a wound they might have sustained.

When the others confirmed they were ok, Zaineb moved over to the chained prisoner, who was trying to break his fetters. She looked at the dark-skinned man for a breath or two, gentle, dark brown eyes trying to ascertain he was no threat, then lowered the black cloth that had hidden all of her face but the eyes. It revealed a friendly face, some whisps of black hair sticking out from the traditional headwear of the desert folk. "Stay calm, you are safe." she told the prisoner in a soothing voice, much like you would use to calm an agitated child. Her hand came into his view, holding a waterskin she had produced from her hip. "Here, drink this and then we get you out of these chains." the woman said with an encouraging smile and a nod, holding it to his lips.
