Re: OOC Thread for General Use

Greetings,

I know all of you are patient when I have things come up in real life, and I thank you for it. This time it's a whopper of a life change. My wife and I sold our home, and we have to be out in a month. This isn't going to be an easy feat since we own a lot of possessions that we need to move not once, not twice, but 3 times.

We have to put our belongings in storage as we try to find a temporary home here in the states while our home is being built in the Philippines. Then we have to move again to the Philippines.

So, my posting is going to become erratic, but I will post as often as I can which should be every 2 to 3 if not up to 4 days. Our closing is Oct. 3, 2019 and I hope to be back to the first normal by that date while our Philippine home is being finished. Then, here we go again...

I thank you for your understanding in advance.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

Wow! - That's going to be a whopper of an effort and that several times even more so. When we bought our home, while in the process of being built, there was so much to do and keep track of the changes etc. that it was becoming close to the only thing we could focus on. That said, take all the time you need :)

In reply to Zaineb (msg # 814):

We're panicking. We have a lot of toys we have to sell, and or move, and we're to the rafters in a 2400 sq. ft. home with belongings collected over many years. Did I mention the shops, and out building that are also packed with tools, and the like.

I'm disabled, and my wife cannot do everything so we're going to have to take it slow, and steady, lol. Thanks for understanding.

P.S. You don't realize how much you accumulate over the years until you look at it to try and decide how many totes and boxes it's going to take to pack just one room let alone an entire 2 story home. Jeez.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

I hear you. We renovated our beauty salon (just two rooms) and had to empty them except for some equipment (treatment beds/seats) so they could be painted. That took us two days, partially because we were sorting through lots of stuff that wasn't needed anymore. Slow and steady is the only way through, I can understand you pretty well and I don't envy you. I keep my fingers crossed all will go smoothly, you don't need complications as is.

I hope your Internet connection is sufficient in the new location.  Sunny (blazing) and warm (sweltering) should be nice, yes?

I've lost track of the years, but I actually started this game room in the Philippines, I believe, about five years ago. The connection wasn't always great, but it was usually good. so, no worries there.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

I have a fairly new player to D&D who is wanting to find a game.

quote:
I'm Chris, and I'm looking to get started with online pbp gaming. I have been playing Pathfinder and D&D 3.5 with friends for about a year now and I've had a lot of fun. We don't really do much role playing, but its something I wanted to try learning and doing here...

... I really enjoy playing melee dps, ranged weapon, and tank characters like the fighter, samurai, and ranger.  As for a general concept character, a samurai that his first instinct is to protect his lord and fellow adventurers from evil and harm....

If you'd be interested in letting him play in your game, let me know.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

I'd like to run a game here, but I'm stretched rather thin. I'd like to run something that was very straightforward, but involved interaction-type roleplaying, rather than only combat-type roleplaying. Maybe my question is how to have meaningful interaction and non-combat challenges without the game becoming a time sink for me.

I should mention that I've never read a pre-written adventure I liked, or that ran all that well for me. I generally just make stuff up as I go.

Normally, I'd put my DMing conundrums to whomever my players were, but I'd like to have a pitch for them other than "Please help make this as simple as possible."

I don't know how to tell you the best way to play off-the-cuff here.  Some advice I could give, though, is to keep some sort of record of the details that you give out, so that you can maintain consistency in the long run.  Other than that, make sure that you post often, and preferably every day.  Work to keep each of the characters engaged, but also be aware when a player prefers to let the character coast for a bit.

Really, be able to juggle, do it fast, and be entertaining.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

In reply to Artifex (msg # 829):

Oh, I know how to play off the cuff. It's the only way I play. What I have trouble with is keeping things "simple," as in "not time consuming." What tends to consume time, I find, is when I have to come up with lots of things that there aren't good, easy rules for. In my main game, that I'm also making up as I go, the players decided to ride a riverboat. I didn't have rules on hand that I liked for that. I could have blocked that, and kept them from doing it, but I prefer not to do that either.

The main answer might be that I need to keep things restricted to dungeons, without touching on overland travel, and be upfront about that so no one takes options that only apply to overland travel.
