It's been a while since I said this, but Applicant 1 [aka Surshane], that is a spectacular picture and I still haven't figured out who it is yet. Lindsey Vonn? Anyone know?

Be a little light posting over the next few days. We have received over 9 inches of rain, and our basement, which has never taken water, is flooding. It's a living space with living room, 2nd kitchen, and many other rooms, so we are desperate to save our furnishings and possession. Helitech, a dry basement specialist, is so busy they can get to us till Monday.

To make matters worse, we are expecting more rain and t-storms for 3 more days. Good thing we postponed our camping trip, huh?

Thanks for understanding.

OOC Thread for General Use

I am down to 2 games with the possibility of one of them ending this week. It's not that I don't want to run multiple games like I have done in the past, but it is that I am about to end running 3.5 games. I'm going to start running Pathfinder and Pathfinder Society games.

Don't worry, the gameroom will continue to host 3.5 games, and GM's that run 3.5 games.

Gameroom Changes:

The name of the gameroom will change. We are going to change the name to something that makes the gameroom available to all campaigns for both 3.5 and Pathfinder. I'm accepting suggestions for the new name. If you have an idea for one, please post it here.

Once I change over the gameroom to this format, I will advertise for GM's. I believe I will be more successful recruiting GM's with the new format.

Once the changeover happens, I will be starting up some Pathfinder Adventures, and some Pathfinder Society scenarios.

Thank you for your patience during this transition.

The new name of the gameroom is "A Pathfinder and 3.5 Gaming Community". I didn't get any suggestions on the name, so I went with that unless someone has something better to suggest. I'm still working on my Pathfinder ideas, and should be getting something going real soon. I'm being coached by a GM in one of my Society games at Dragon Hoard Gaming, a live game I play in, so I'll keep you posted.

I am talking to a potential 3.5 GM, and if all goes well, I will give him access to this thread to pitch his game ideas to our Applicants. If there is enough interest after he pitches his game idea, I will set him up as a GM, and we will move this conversation to the Players Seeking Party or Solo Game Thread. Thanks for your patience.

OOC Thread for General Use

Greetings and Great-ings.

I have three game proposals.
  1. this first game is a series of story arcs that took a table top group over 10 years to complete less than 80% of.
  2. this second story is a new game I am writing by the seat of my pants based upon interactions between the players and the worlds.
  3. this third option is to begin a blank campaign and let player sidequests and personal interests be the primary focus of the campaign.

I offer the following warning to players
  • I run higher power to level ratios and characters that step into my stories may not be accepted intact (or at all) outside of my stories.
  • a great many of my stories incorporate catastrophic events.
some of those events include but are not limited to...
    • drow waging a war of genocide on all surface elves and sympathizers
    • ancient force having been unleashed that eats all magic.
    • the elemental planes are beginning to merge. chaos and destruction on a cosmology scale.
    • ...god war...
    • the gods have lost thier memory and are wandering the planes ignorant of the destruction in thier wake.
  • I am not steeped in Forgotten Realms lore and will likely use setting neutral terms, interspersed with likely inaccurate names, dates, and places.
  • i like psionics, and they do exist in my stories characters that have acquired items and abilities as a result of incharacter meetings will find them nonfunctional or absent upon exiting my stories.

my campaigns move in three phases
lvl 5-lvl 10 (discover why it is happening)
lvl 10-lvl 15 (discover how to stop it/fix it/stay out of its way/prepare to survive it)
lvl 15-lvl 20...lvl 30 (putting plan into action)

point of interest. every great threat i present has a proverbial "achilles heal" and can be defeated at any point.

... Sure, I'll bite ;P

Questions for the Potential GM:

1.  What special rules do you use, that might render characters in your stories unable to step outside them?  In particular, do you use core/near-core materials generously (high ability arrays, gestalt, bonus feats, willingness to entertain requests for custom items), do you use a lot of non-core/homebrew material (dragon magazine...), and/or do you encourage "exploits" (DMM Persist shenanigans, dark chaos shuffle and various pun-punisms)?

(To put my cards on the table:  I'm totally game for high-octane use of official sources, a little hesitant regarding dragon magazine and homebrew, and not interested in exploits.)

2.  How richly detailed are your stories, and how important to you is the maintaining of a consistent narrative?  Part of the reason I ask is that creating a new game and campaign setting by the seat of one's pants seems like it would be difficult to do in any depth.  So maybe this is a point in favor of your game proposal #1 which already has a fleshed out story arc and setting; or maybe you'll tell us that you actually find it quite practicable to generate highly-detailed stories and worlds on the fly based on a bunch of stock materials you've accumulated.  Would appreciate your perspective on this.

In reply to Applicant 3 (msg # 26):

  • high arrays is a up to interpretation, but my rolling system does allow for some unusual arrays.
    • all abilities start at 8
    • roll 8d8 and put anywhere you want (even if it is all on one ability)
  • gestalt yes
  • bonus feats...sometimes
  • custom items...yes
  • books...anything published by WOTC
  • i don't own many of the dragon or dungeon magazine so they will rarely if at all included
  • I encourage thinking of exquisitely convoluted solutions to things...I am not a fan of exploits
  • like anyone else i don't enjoy the overuse exploits.(the first time may be funny and may be rewarded. but the second and follow on uses will be penalized)
  • pun pun...I have no less than 3 builds that can kill and or neutralize any PunPun build...but as long as you can convince me that it is a balanced and a team player...i can be convinced to allow it on a short period of time.
  • rich detailed worlds...my descriptions of the world gets in more detail as my stories progress. I find that i am not the best at walls of descriptive text on a regular basis. but I will at all times endeavour to describe as the story moves.
  • my creativity flows well by the seat of my pants, each campaign proposal has its benefits.

I also forgot to mention i do xp differently.

due to the fact that crafting is a xp consuming activity.

while you can not craft your self into the level below, you can craft away so much xp that you need more xp then you needed to level the last time.

think of it like a rope and your level is where you are anchored to the stone wall. the point is to climb to the top of the wall, but you can climb down as far as you want to finish an item. it is not recommended but it is allowed.

also if a client of an item being made chooses to, they can pay the xp cost of crafting.

arguing for xp
if you did something that you believe is noteworthy/extraordinary don't be afraid to argue for you cause when it comes time to gain xp.

buying xp to accelerate leveling
there are some classes that require constant training. to replicate this these classes have optional fees and dues paid to persons or establishments that are masters in those respective field.
