OOC Thread for General Use

In reply to Potential GM (msg # 25):

Dear Potential GM

I and a few others have spend a while creating characters (4th or 5th level) and have had games end all too quickly, partly due to lack of leads from GM or player numbers dissipating too fast to be replenished.

1) Can you accommodate (with amendments), existing characters?
2) If a player can demonstrate a knowledge of an area through their character (due to being born close by if in Forgotten Realms etc) as you say you are not fully conversant with the setting, are you willing to utilise that knowledge if it fits the flow of the game?
3) What books if any would be excluded?

I'm sure you would put these in your thread but I would like to understand your stance first.

Thank you.

1) Can you accommodate (with amendments), existing characters?
the ONLY reason i start at a level lower then 5 is if i am going slower to allow new players to learn. so yeah i can accommodate existing characters.

2) If a player can demonstrate a knowledge of an area through their character (due to being born close by if in Forgotten Realms etc) as you say you are not fully conversant with the setting, are you willing to utilise that knowledge if it fits the flow of the game?
if it was a strictly one way relationship I would be a bad GM. As long as a level of respect is maintained i provide xp bonuses if someone calls me on blatant mistakes. most of the time i will edit my previous posts. there are other times that I will INTENTIONALLY step of the path, and when i do i will try to make it clear that we are diverging into new ground.

3) What books if any would be excluded?
currently no books are off limits, obviously I have my favorites. but currently the only resources i have excluded is the homebrew sides of d20srd and dnd-wiki, and that exclusion is a soft exclusion.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

After reading your post and the style of game you intent to GM I see that you have it all sort out, which mean you game will most likely be interesting and there's a fair chance you will be dedicated.

I am however, unsure if I can commit at this moment. Summer is coming and posting rate for me is usually 2-3 per week, sometime more sometime less. I ould like to see what is your view on this posting rate.

One more thing, I personally prefer core-related stuff rather than a power level thats high or even encouraged.

These are the two main obstacle I see for myself. Until I am sure I can live with these two, I would prefer not to commit. Because once I commit I stay in a game, I am very reliable.

Not sure about the other guys here, but my preference would certainly option 3. This give more freedom and a less rigid type of game and those are generally more appealing for me. Even in those type of non linear games, you can always send us the plots or section of game you used in the past or planned to use, just that they may be in a different place in time and level than it would have been in a more linear game.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

As Applicant 5 said, I would prefer option 3 but with something thrown in we can grab based on own backgrounds maybe.

I tend to check posts every day or there abouts unless I'm away and then still try to access (I know, sad).

What is your expected/hope for posting rate?

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

Ok thanks for the details.

I already have a character, a conjurer that I would like to keep (modified as required).

My only obstacle left is the power level and fairness between characters. I could send you a snapshot of my character before changes so you get an idea. The only major changes would be stats.

I do not intent on participating in a gestalt game. Like I said I prefer core related material and option 3. If you think you can have other players, using the same mindset as me and applicant 7, I would be glad to join the game. We could discuss more privately as needed on details, but thats the most important factors for me.

I want to add that the only reasons I am telling this is that you are aware of the typpe of game I like to play in, I think its better to clarify before we start so theres no surprise.

I also do not want you to see this as an obstacle (my requests/style of plays) to GM a game the way you want. I just want to make sure we will both be happy with the way it will be handled.

Thanks for your time!

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

In reply to Potential GM (msg # 34):

Sounds OK to me.

The character I have ready already knows Applicant 5's character from previous games, hopefully this will help.  We in no way keep separate but try to interact with others. This is said as I hope to be in a game with this persons character again, pending GM's decisions.

Character details can be sent in a message once/if it is decided you will run a game.

Thank you

Enjoy your day/weekend. A worthy excuse/reason for a holiday, supporting and recognising those who served, just as 11/11 each year.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

My family and I are going to try and go on vacation again, since our last attempt was a bust. This time we may be going to an area that doesn't have wifi nor even a phone connection, I am told. If this is the case, then I will be off the grid for 2 weeks starting June 6th unless there is a chance that my phone will work.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use

Greetings Peeps!

I enjoyed a most wonderful vacation with my family that was totally off the grid. This is amazing as I almost cannot remember the last time I had ever not had some form of electronic device in front of my face. After several days of withdrawals, I finally cleansed myself, and moved on to enjoy the great outdoors like I use to do before there were any such devices and addictions.

I'm back now, and ready to get back to another favorite hobby of mine. GAMING!

Planer Guide:
Planer convergence
the elemental planes merge and split and merge again. There are times when they only brush against each other.
When an elemental plane simply brushes against the opposing elemental plane it creates a wide spread extinction event that ripples across the planes, but full convergences of all four elemental planes means the complete destruction of all the planes. At full convergences not even the matter of the planes survives.

To defend against the total loss of life in each catastrophic convergence. The multi-dimensional being THOON has been tasked with preserving the species in a “Noah’s ark” situation. The process collects a viable specimen of every species. The mental effects of this process are less pronounced upon the predator prey species due to the instinctual drives. But the more evolved civilized beings lose most of their higher brain function for 1 to 200 generations. much of this degradation of higher mental function was mitigated since the construction of the nexus.

Due to an epiphany that a think tank of mages had they too for saw the coming calamity, they sought out THOON to learn from it.  Soon after that the mages crafted the planer nexus. Due to the alien-ness of THOON the truth of THOON is kept from any that are unable to survive the knowledge.

The planer nexus is a non-dimensional “black box” of sorts. It lies at the center of the entire cosmos in the eye of the storm so to speak. From its observatories the planer guides can observe the movement of the planes and predict convergences and divergences. But also due to its unique location it also serves as a bridge between all the planes, and versions of planes. It is also a location that can be used to shelter in place to ride out hazardous planer phenomena.

The nexus is an artificial metallic “space station” with no resources of its own, all resources must be gathered and stored, ensuring that there will be enough to last through any disaster.

the party is approached by one of the planer guides. They are informed if the higher functions of the nexus, that it is not just a connection of planer trade. but is infact an enormous ark.

mass effect:
...what do you mean the citadel is a massive mass relay...

the party will be tasked initially with gathering resources to prepare to survive the coming catastrophe. thier success or failure will gain or lose them "nexus points" which represent the nexuses ability to preserve the planes and the life that lives on it.

Planer Guide:
normal core rules with the following exceptions

abilities: 5d6 drop lowest 2 (optional-reroll lowest score)

hit dice: always max (you will need them)

dead and dying: unconcious @ 0
                dead @ negative-maximum HP

technocraft devices are powered by a "timey wimey, wibbly wobbly" energy field that only exists inside the Planer Nexus and connected world.

grade "I" objects have fixed enhancements/enhancements. these objects lack XP investiture. investing XP into an "I" grade item takes one hour(regardless of amount invested) after which the wielder must sleep/rest for 8 hours. investing into an "I" grade weapon can lower your level, because you are taking XP damage to do it.

Hi,
