I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I want to tweak Meara, but I should have something up soon.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Ha!

Cool.
As for Brun not turning into the character I had envisioned.  I honestly think he did, I just wrote him wrong to start with.  ;)

I think I thought of a new stunt that might be fitting.

Popular - When in a place where he has gained renown or his underdog story has captured hearts and minds, he can use Intrigue in place of Lineage.  A Fate spend might be able to be used to establish such a connection.

He earned a popular following in the tourney, followed by being thrust into command during the subsequent battle.  I had envisioned him originally as being trained in the ways of court, now he has opportunity to use those skills.  Make him a bit more the courtier.  We could use one of those.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Oh good, because "you wrote him wrong" was kinda the implication I was going for but not the wording I wanted to use. XD

Yeah, what you've got now is definitely something that fills the missing niche in the group. Gwydion /can/ do court stuff, as he's really passionate and all about doing the right thing and all that stuff The People like to hear. He's just god awful at playing the court game and will lose every time. Meara...well, you've seen Meara. We don't let her do the talking with the important diplomats unless they're from a planet where "get drunk and beat stuff up" is the way to win people over. (But once we find those people, hoo boy, that'll be the most awesome diplomacy ever!) :P

And that's a fantastic Stunt. Serves the character's style really well, gives a good use for the Intrigue skill, and all around supports the story.

All I know for potential stunts is I'd like Meara to end up super popular with the people and kind of seen as a nuisance at court.  Except by people like Arthur, of course.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Alright, I think I got some ideas here.  Lemme know if I need to change something.

Minor Milestone:
Pick one:
*Switch the rank values of any two skills, or replace one Average (+1) skill with one that isn’t on your sheet.
*Change any single stunt for another stunt.
*Purchase a new stunt, provided you have the refresh to do so. (Remember, you can’t go below 1 refresh.)
*Rename one character aspect that isn’t your high concept.

Trouble is going to change to "Shattered Innocence," since that bit's been broken now.  She won't suddenly go around being a horribly depressing or fatalistic person, though.  She's just going to have moments of hesitation and such when before she'd be all gung-ho about something.  This will tie in with her new High Concept as well.

Significant Milestone:
Get both:
*One additional skill point, which you can spend to buy a new skill at Average (+1) or increase an existing skill by one rank.
*If you have any severe consequences, you can rename them to begin the recovery process, if you haven’t already.

I'm going to increase Zeal by 1 to make it Great (+4).  This ties in with her clearly being a super athletic character who basically jumps and flips around when everyone else is having trouble with footing.  She's a frightening combatant not because she's a literal powerhouse, but because you'll never hit her and she's just to dang mobile.  This ties in to what's going to be happening with the Major Milestone.
I don't have a severe consequence, and the mild one I had was reduced with my stunt, so I think that's effectively dealt with.

Major Milestone:
Get all:
*If you have an extreme consequence, rename it to reflect that you’ve moved past its most debilitating effects. This allows you to take another extreme consequence in the future, if you desire.
*Take an additional point of refresh, which allows you to immediately buy a new stunt or keep it in order to give yourself more fate points at the beginning of a session.
*Advance a skill beyond the campaign’s current skill cap, if you’re able to, thus increasing the skill cap.
*Rename your character’s high concept if you desire.

First off, the consequence.  Again, it was mild, and I'm thinking that between Gold Cools the Blood, a Significant Milestone, and the Major Milestone, she's over that bit of stress by now.
Instead of a point of Refresh, I'm taking a new Stunt.  Long Jumper, to go with her attempts to be Nathan Drake in combat.
Zeal's also being advanced another point, making it an incredible +5 (and an insane +7 when jumping).  She's well on her way to being a Wuxia-style combatant.
Finally, I'm renaming her High Concept to Princess of the People, reflecting her shifting priorities from "Woo combat is fun!" to "I will never let any harm fall to those whom I protect."  And her definition of the latter is pretty broad, let me tell you.

I figure by the next Major Milestone, Meara will have come to grips with her duties as a soldier and just be the fun-crazy warrior.  But she's gotta earn that position.

Still, she's learning to fly without her Armor!

One of the best stories/games I was ever involved in.

Thanks if you're still out there!  Thanks if you've moved on to other pursuits as well!

It really was.  Glad I could conjure up this memory and share it with folk still out there to appreciate it.

Very likely I'm in some games with both of you.  RPOL is a much smaller place than it seems some times.

Sadly no Fate games.  Re-reading this made me realize how great Fate could be...

I know Cripple X has left the gaming scene for the past few years, which is really unfortunate, but I'm glad to see you're both still around. :D If I'd thought of it earlier, I'd have invited you to some of the games I've been putting together. All off of RPoL, though, as the PbP speed has been killing me the last few months.

Anything you're up to here that would be fun for us all to hop in on together?

PbP speed is pretty killer sometimes....  On the other hand, I'm kinda slow at times with RL obligations and what not.  So...  To be fair...  It suits me.  Frustrating though it is.

Are you doing like weekly virtual table top kind of games?

As for things here on RPOL, I am currently running a Deadlands: Hell on Earth game about a Haunted Truck.  Which has managed to hang on through lengthy pauses for me to regather and plow through work swamps.  The players keep joining back in when I return, so I can't complain.  Very slow paced, but we try and I think that counts for a lot.  Interested?

I'm playing in just a few games scattered about.  Deadlands, DnD 5e, and a Changeling game of all things.  Trying not to join in too much so that I don't start failing at any of them.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

On RPoL, I'm in... two games that have any activity.  Outside, I have a bi-weekly Pathfinder game where we have hit frankly ridiculous levels of power.  We're currently Character Level 21/Mythic 7, and the end goal is Level 30/Mythic 10.

I'm doing 2d4+99 damage a swing with a scythe, and it's going to keep going up.  And I'm not the most ridiculous damager in the party.

Wow.

I'm not sure I have ever played anything long enough to have characters hit crazy power levels.

I had a character die once in a mid level game.  I took the opportunity of starting at a higher level to min-max a fighter to do some pretty pressive things.  The GM seemed to be okay with it...the first fight locked me in a force cage so I was not allowed to do any of the things designed...

Re: Out of Character and Absences

As an example of how ridiculous we are (and the difficulty of our encounters), the last encounter we fought was a creature so colossal in size that after we enlarged the entire party to Huge (3x3 squares, or 15'x15'), it was still eight times our size in area.

Also, the sucker had around 7k HP and DR 100/-.

I was still causing it damage in the double digits even without making crits.  WITH crits I was doing over 300 per crit.

Then our monk ignored the DR and did around 4.5k a round.

Also my HP went down to single digits every round and I was only being hit 3 or 4 times a round, and that's with DR 15/-.

To be fair, we were told that this was in the top 5 most difficult encounters planned in the entire campaign, so that says something about how scary we are, too.

We also one rounded a Great Old Wyrm Red Dragon.  Our team did not take kindly to it crashing through the temple roof and landing on 60+ townspeople to start the fight.

As for why my character's doing so much damage, I'm playing a Two-Handed Archetype fighter who doubles their STR and Power Attack bonuses instead of the usual 1.5x for two-handed weapons, and I'm pure STR.  Also Mythic, so with Mythic Power Attack I also get more bonuses per point of BAB.

So I'm currently doing 2d4+99 damage with a scythe at normal size, and 3d6+107 when Huge.

... I have the lowest potential damage per hit without crits of all our front liners, but also the most consistent per round, so I'm the mob clearer.

I have a level 19 Bard cohort who would be a powerhouse in a normal campaign who spends most of the combats in the back row doing nothing but buffs and healing because combat is scary.

Best part about everything, though?

My character is a clockwork construct who looks like this:

She's five feet tall when you include her hair accessories and heels, and her intimidate check is almost +60 without magical bonuses.  Highest in the party by a factor of 2.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

It was called "Black Maga."

It was an inter-dimensional gigantic squid of doom.

Also, my character has but three goals:

1) Headpats.  Headpats are love, headpats are life, headpats let her know she's a good girl.
2) Avenge her father/creator and make him proud by reaching, at minimum, the same heights in power and respect as he had (as he was one of the seven Kings of Thassilonia, that's a tall order, but she's well on her way)
3) Free the enslaved and destroy the enslavers.  Her prestige class is Liberator.

The third one was the most fitting prestige class for her, as it complimented her skills and build as a Sunder specialist and made sense from a character standpoint, since as a clockwork construct, she needs to be wound on a regular basis, and part of the custom race I made with the GM (this part was my idea) was that she was bound to serve whoever wound her (this also affected her alignment).

Then the party member who was winding her got lazy and told her to wind herself, which gave her free will for the first time in 8,500 years and she's still... dealing with that.

She has since asked the Neutral/Chaotic Good characters in the party to wind her, as she admires their ideals of freedom, but because she wound herself, she's no longer bound to serve.

Also, she's the only party member to have the Leadership feat, which is hilarious.  Due to magical item shenanigans and having the Mythic version of Leadership, she, ah... has over 10k level 1 followers and 99 level 6 followers.  Like, we run a kingdom and most of the people are fanatically loyal to her and she's just the Warden (aka head domestic peacekeeper).

To be fair, she is directly responsible for the freedom of her initial followers by buying them all at auction and/or murdering the slavers and freeing the rest that evening, and then ensuring they all got clean clothing, food, baths, and then told they were free.  She even offered them spending money and gear so they'd have something besides just the clothes on their backs.

Now several of them crew the kingdom's alchemical airship.  Because of course we built the most expensive and ridiculous one.

Well of course.  Everything should be ridiculous and expensive by that point in a campaign.

The Klockwork Khaleesi, Breaker of Chains, First of her Winding.

And when you guys are this powerful, what do you use armies and airships for?  I would assume decoration.

That airship really tied the kingdom together...
