Out of Character and Absences

This is the place for out of character chat.

Also, let us know if you're going on vacation, are swamped at work, or otherwise can't post for a bit. Life happens, and that's perfectly fine, but if you know ahead of time that you'll be AFK please post here to let us know.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Hi! I've got a name picked out, but that's about all I have so far. I'm envisioning a younger knight, eager to prove himself to his peers. And that's about it.

His name is taken from the first adventure game I beat as a child. The character of Gwydion was a clever young man who'd been kidnapped and raised by an evil wizard, who planned to kill him on his 18th birthday. Adventure ensues. I don't think any of that can be applied to the character backstory here.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I, too, only have a name so far.

I know I wanted to make a young Valkyrie, probably one who was brash and inexperienced and perhaps needs a bit of humbling in actual combat (where the rules of honor don't apply), and completely out of place in courtly intrigue.

Because I, myself, can't wrap my head around that stuff, so I'd rather not try to make a character who is good at it.  Much more fun to be a horrible diplomat and get pulled back by the rest of the party so someone else can apologize for my presence and smooth things out.

As the other two party members take me down with clorophorm.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Hi, I hope everyone is well. I'm posting here to inform the GM and fellow players that I must regrettably bow out of this game. I've been called back to work, and the nature of the job is such, that I won't be able to reliably post for much of the week. My apologies to all for any inconvenience, and I hope that this game will be as enjoyable as the premise seems capable of being.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Thanks for letting us know, Lex. I'm really sorry to lose you. Feel free to hang around and read along if you'd like. If your schedule permits you're always more than welcome to jump back in and play as well.

As for the rest of you, how goes things? Meara, any luck with finding time to work on your phase one?

Aw, that's no good. I hope you'll find a chance to relax and have a good time anyway. And yeah, once your time opens up, hop on back. :D We're friendly here.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I've been struggling to find time lately.  I've got an exam this evening (it's not quite 2:00AM for me as I write this) and before that, I have a job interview for a temp agency that's an hour away in just over 12 hours that I have to finish preparing for as well.  Then a 5 page paper due tomorrow for something else entirely.  And another exam this Saturday.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I'll try to find time this week to sit down and focus on this.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I'm starting to think it might've been easiest to start us with a High Concept and Trouble, peak Skills, a Stunt or two, and some Armour. Character creation's always been the slowest part of any Fate game I've seen. Still, I've got my Phase Three up now, though I haven't listed out example Invokes and Compels on my aspect for it. How's everyone else doing?

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I think you're absolutely right Gwydion. Doing to phases bogged us down pretty hard, and at this point, I think I might actually start the play thread and let folks fill in the details of their character from that point.

What do you all think?

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I am ready to roll, except I don't have an Armour on paper and as yet haven't taken the time to wrap my head around that bit. Was kinda focused on making Gwydion and tying him to the others. ^_^;

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I think going strait to play would be a sound idea, if it works in this system.  I mean, I already know whose Phase Ones I'd be in, I'm just not sure HOW to be in them just yet.

I also need to design my armor.

I've got two finals this week, and my last one is next Wednesday.  I've also got two big projects to finish, one by this Saturday, and the other by next Tuesday.  So that's why I've been silent recently.  Once that's over, I'll have plenty of time to devote to games again.

I'm all done, so straight to starting is fine by me.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Ah. Hm. Another thing I'd like to point out right now is that all of my aspects are exactly the same. "Transparent Principles", "I Stand by Justice", "Louder Than Words", and "A Different Sort of Honour" are all so very close in function...I think I could keep Louder Than Words distinct, as it represents a brash sort of behavior. Impulsiveness rather than careful planning. But the others just reiterate each other.

If you don't mind me disconnecting my aspects from my phases, I think it'd be good to put down something like "Arthur's Nephew", which would fit my Phase Three anyway. Maybe an aspect that directly connects me to Meara, like Childhood Friends or some such. But having three of the same thing is just too much.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Pretty sure I'm done. Check out my Description, where my sheet is located. I didn't make as many changes to aspects as I thought I would, but it looks good to me. Also my Armour is done, and I think it's right, too. :D

I have an integrated system that gives me Great Vigour. Does that affect my Armour's stress boxes?

Alright! Gave myself a place to list Fate Points, introduced myself into the main game thread, and now just waitin' to see Meara drop in. :D

Boss, do you know if we still have Roland? I think we bored him away.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I actually realized I hadn't even designed the idea for my Armour, so I was at least trying to come up with its outer design and look.  Also, general purpose and specialty and such.  I think I've got a general idea, so I'm going to run with it while I try to come up with mechanics, but I won't be able to focus on anything much until next Wednesday when my last final is over.  Day before that, I've got a term paper due, and this Saturday morning I've got a group paper due followed by a final because I could only get that class on a Saturday this quarter.

So, I'm in crunch time, but I'll try to get SOMETHING up soon.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

No worries. RL takes precedence.

The Armoury thread has a bunch of examples that might be of help. Beyond that, if you've got any questions or anything, Feel free to ask. That's exactly what I'm here for.
