1c: Brun vs. Sir Zimon Bell

Brun finds it difficult to move through the crowds after the presentation thanks to his new fans. But he's able to reach his beloved Armour with some effort.

Brun's first opponent is Sir Zimon Bell, the Resounding Knight. His heraldry is a tolling silver bell on a gold field. The Resounding Knight is a local favorite.

Waiting in his cockpit Brun watches a countdown on his HUD. When it reaches zero, a tone sounds. The duel has begun!

OOC:
The combat area is in space.

There are five zones connected like so:

You will start in Start 1 your opponent starts in Start 2. Moving along the lines is moving one zone. There are no barriers unless someone makes one.

The Resounding Knight wastes no time in going on the Offense. As soon as the match begins he takes off and series of bright flashes let's Brun know that he's fired a volley of missles at Euryleia.

Brun felt safe again inside the pilot's chamber.  Technical and readiness readouts swirled around him as he went through his checks one last time on their ascended to the tournament zone.  He worried, of course.

"Tactical systems ready," reported the disembodied voice of Euryleia herself.

"I know you are ready and willing, my love.  I trust you.  It is my own fears.  I hate to see you hurt...  But, such is the fate of warriors....".   He ran a hand lightly over the familiar control panel.  He drew in a calming breath, pressing down his fear for his lady.  She needed him ready.  She didn't need him like this.  "I am sorry, my love.  I did my job and it is time to let you do yours."

"Start coordinates achieved.  Combat begins in 5....4....3....2...."

Brun grew ever more tense as time counted down.  But, his hands settled into the controls grips anyway.  He stared at the viewscreen, trying to pick out their opponent in the blackness.  There....

"One. Weapons free."

Almost immediately Euryleia's sensors began taking the incoming salvo of missiles.  "Pattern Beta-2, Flares".  As Brun relayed the command, he began calculating an intercept trajectory to bring the battle quickly close-in.  Euryleia did her best work up close.

The patchwork Armour sprang to fluid life, diving straight towards the missile salvo.  She spun through the void with more grace and speed than her patchwork appearance should have allowed.  Small panels opened up, releasing a spiraling flurry of flares.  The missiles were thrown off by the bedevilments, chasing the wisps and ignoring Euryleia.  The ill-made Armour kept it's curving course through the fireworks display of failed rocketry.  She was now much closer to Bell and his Armour than he might have expected.  An advantage that would be pressed...

As they closed in, Brun beamed with pride at his lady's performance.  Her then brought the pirated scout sensors online, "My lady, what do your warrior's eyes see... "

Defense - 5, 3 shifts should give a boost?  How about Unexpectedly Fast?

Move to Above Callisto to get into melee range.  Action - CA with Lore to scan Bell's Armour - Tactical Scanning.  Got a 3.

15:12, Today: Brun rolled 1 using 4 Fudge dice with rolls of 0, 0, 0, 1. Create Advantage - Lore +2  (Tactical Scan).

Brun's daring move catches the veteran knight off guard. It is all he can do to fall back from the closing form of Euryleia before she reaches him.

An alert in the cockpit announces the scan and Sir Zimon modulates his countermeasures to cut off the attempt before Brun is able to get a complete scan.

As his armour lunges away and Euryleia closes the distance the distance, Sir Zimon unleashes a second salvo from his missle pack. At this range it will be much more difficult for flares to counter.

More difficult indeed...

"Pattern Orion-4!" ordered Brun, knowing the flares would not have sufficient time to orient to their targets.  Instead, he and his lady would have to rely on their speed and skill to see them through this barrage.  As well as the information gained on missle ballistics from their scan. Euryleia kept forward, twisting and turning; using Callisto's gravity well to chase their quarry to the ground.  Most of the missiles were successfully avoided by the maneuvering, but one managed to get close enough to rattle the Armour with its detonation.  Euryleiaseemed to weather it well.  Brun was thrown around the pod before the inertial compensators kicked in.

Brun knew Bell favored a ranged game from his information gathering at the banquet.  Their best chance was to get in course and stay there.  Force him into melee.  And that is exactly what Brun's maneuvering had aimed at accomplishing...

OOC - Defend total - 5 (Burned both boosts, Speed and Scan.). 1 stress hit to Brun.

Create Advantage total - 5 to bring him to close quarters In Arm's Reach (Burned FP on reroll, using I Will Survive, and Knowing free invoke)

Brun's maneuvering works to perfection and he manages to cut Zimon Bell of and remove his range advantage.

Knowing that he's in trouble in a close range fight, Sir Zimon flares his thrusters creating a huge cloud of dust. He hopes that the dust will prevent his opponent from being able to see him and his counter measures will prevent Brun from getting an accurate scan once again.

As the dust cloud flies up and obscures the cameras a near riot breaks out on the station. The people had all been crowded around their view screens some waving flags with Silver Bells, others patchwork flags sewn together from whatever materials they can find. "Where's the picture?! Where's the vid-feed?!" Thankfully the crises his averted when the camera switches to thermal and the heat signatures of the two Armours become visible as glowing white shapes.

Euryleia's sensors rotated automatically through to thermal scanning.  Not as precise, but likely enough at such range.  The crowds were watching and they came to see these warrior's fight.  It was time to show that the Ill Made Armour had teeth as well as grace.  Brun, now blended with his Lady, guided her hands as she stepped in to the attack.  The dual disruption foils swept around in a blinding pattern, slashing and stabbing towards Bell's defenses to pry into an opening....

Attack total +4 (Burned one free Invoke from At Arm's Reach)

Brun's strike with Euryleia's Disruption Foils finds it's target dealing a sharp blow to Bell's Mace armour. Sir Bell reels back and then does his best to riposte and deal a blow with the shredder on the right arm of his suit.

As Bell swept in with the grinding shredder, it would look to the audience like Euryleia had left an opening in her guard.  Maybe the patchwork Armour had glitched.  Hardly surprising, look at it...  The shredder screamed in and was caught by the brilliant energy web of a defensive ward!  An unexpectedly high tech piece of equipment on an Edge Knight's Armour.  The field absorbed and slowed shredder, allowing Brun andEuryleia to easily sidestep and charge forward.  A disruption foil slashing deftly into Bell's Armour as they went by.

Turning smoothly, Brun danced joyously with his Lady as they once again began their quick, daring, relentless offensive.  Disruption foils diving in like wild birds of prey.

Defend Total - 8; triggering Disruption Foil special effect - 2 stress hit to Bell

Attack Total - 6 (burning 2nd Arm's reach and a FP to activate Euryleia is my Everything as they dance their wardance together.  Ah love.

Sir Bell realizes that he stands no chance unless he can put some distance between himself and his opponent. Sir Bell makes a risky move when Euryleia strikes with her Disruption Foil, he shoulders into the blow trying to knock the other Armour off balance to give him a chance to escape. This gives him the opening he needs, but also leaves dangerously open to attack.

I'm going to say he succeeds, but at a serious cost, the cost being that Brun gets a free exchange with which to attack him before he can move away. If he's still up, he'll move to Above Callisto, then it's your turn again.

Then Brun will disable the missile packs.

The sudden corps-a-corps body blow from the desperate Zimon putEuryleia and Brun momentarily off their stride.  It of offered Bell a moment's reprieve and the space to make a break for it.  But, while turning to fire thrusters he had left himself open.  Brun fired maneuvering boosters, kicking for ward in a leaping volta strike just before he gained the air.

23:56, Yesterday: Brun rolled -1 using 4 Fudge dice with rolls of -1, 1, -1, 0. Attack - Melee +2.


Euryleia landed gracefully and tilted her head to watch Simon rise away.  Brun eyed the view screen and the distance ticking away.  They could chase, but it did not seem sporting.  There was a reputation to build and viciousness would not do.  They had scored their touches and would pass the right of way to him.  The next pass was to him.... At his ready. Brun and his Last took a ready position to receive his attack.

Create Advantage - 5 (Burned Sharp Dressed Man to play off his growing reputation). The idea is to create a situation where honor dictates that Simon must take the offensive opportunity offered by Brun.  Like in fencing where the opponents return to starting marks to go again after a fair touch.  Brtun scored fairly, he now offers Simon the opportunity.  Of course, it does allow him to prepare....  Make sense?

Sir Bell succeeds in escaping from close-quarters with his opponent thanks to Brun's chivalrous attitude, but the damage has been done. His one  major advantage, his shoulder missile packs have been disabled.

Not one to shy away from a fight, no matter the odds, Sir Zimon Bell readies himself for the fight. The next exchange, he vows, will be one for the ages.

Euryleia maintained her ready stance; Leg servos whirred to maintain a loose balance, disruption foils were poised to recieve the coming charge.  "Tactical scanners.  Analyze opponent and predict approaches," Brun watched as his readouts sprung to lfe with a variety of likel attack vectors and options available to Bell.  He quickly sorted them and chose the most likely patterns and the most effective responses to each as he awaited his opponent's move....

As the two pilots prepare to square off the crowd watches the view screens with bated breath. They know, as do both of the pilots, that whoever comes out of top in the next charge is the winner.

Suddenly, Sir Zimon Bell launches toward toward Callisto's surface and his opponent...

Brun and his Lady stood waiting.  Brun's tactical program quickly discountsed variables and confirmsed vector.  The chosen defensive maneuver was quickly initiated.  A step to the side allowed the strike to skitter brightly across the defensive screen.  Just enough of a step to position for a quick strike at weak spot in Bell's Armour that had resulted from a previous touch...

Defend Total 5 (burned boost) - With Style, so 2-stress hit.

Euryleia followed up quickly, Brun guiding the foils in a furious, relentless attack pattern as they moved in on Bell.  Keeping the pressure on.  Seeking an ending to this.

The two armour's clash in a mighty exchange, but it is clearly Brun and Euryleia who claim the victory. Sir Zimon's armor ripples with explosions and falls to one knee.

A moment later a battered Zimon Bell appears on Brun's HUD, "You are clearly the superior combatant here today, Sir. I yield the contest."


Brun is met with a crowd of supporters when he reaches the Hangar aboard the station. They are all waiving patchwork flags and cheering his name.

The two-stress hit from the defense with style kills off a system.

10:10, Today: MerLN, for the NPC Sir Zimon, rolled -4 using 4 Fudge dice with rolls of -1, -1, -1, -1. Defense vs. Brun. Armour +3. Total: -1. 7-stress hit. Wow, I think that'll do him in. He'll absorb in on his armor. Two-systems. I pick one and you pick one, but that doesn't matter since he's going to Yield. He also takes a mild consequence.

You guys just totally did that Anime thing where two Mechs pass by each other then there's a long pause and one of them falls apart/explodes. ;p
