Re: Character Creation Discussion

Possible Phase 2 attached to Roland's tale-

Edge Knights tend to be drawn together.  Lacking the support of households and lineages, they draw support from each other.  When such support is available.  Whether luck or fate, Brun and Euryleia's timely arrival managed to turn the tide at the 13th hour.  Though his housemates could not be saved, Roland, at least, survived.  Brun offered to teach the former guardsman how to survive alone.  How to keep an Armor repaired and armed with nothing but salvage and tenacity.  If there was something Brun was well qualified to teach, it was how to survive.

So my responsibility was shunted aside due to marathoning the second half of Saints Row IV.  ALL of it.

A noble endeavor.

Me, I'm gonna wait for Meara and Lex's Phase Ones before I start poking around for my Phase Two. Also, I'm gonna put what I have up in my Character Description, like I do. It'll make finding my info easier.

In reply to Brun (msg # 47):

I like it.  You want to do some narrative, or just leave it as details?  I thought we were just supposed to have minimal details for the phases, but everyone is doing narrative.  (My new is showing.)

For the record, I'm totally doing minimal details for the phases. Gives everyone room to work, lets us fill in details if the stories ever come up again during play.

Re: Character Creation Discussion

Alright.  I think I've got something - Lemme know what y'all think.

Phase One: Meara had always been idealistic and naive, given the best training in armor combat and schooling money and reputation can buy.  However, she had also been mostly removed from the public and political eye, so the importance of her position in life had never truly mattered to her.  Suddenly, her idyllic life was shattered when some Emergent forces hit her family's yacht.  Before anyone could get to her family's Armour, the hull was breached and her mother was trapped in the debris, leaving her to pilot the Armour and fight off the forces alone.  While nobody died in the raid (somehow), her mother had become permanently injured in a manner that left her unable to pilot Armour, and also thrust upon young Meara just what sort of duties and responsibilities she was destined to inherit - now sooner than anyone had expected.

Aspect: Heiress to a Duchy, which comes with both the benefits and responsibilities of the position.  Suddenly, she's important, and many of her prior freedoms are gone - but she also has much more authority for other tasks.

I call it a yacht because rich space people.

That works great Meara. Now, all that remains is for each of you to tie into two of the others' phase ones as your phase twos and threes.

PHASE TWO: A Friend in Need
Gwydion had been traveling Venusian space with an ambassador, getting his education in courtly matters among allies. It was awkward and difficult for him, especially when the young ladies he tried to explain his ideals to quietly giggled to themselves over some misplaced word or stammer. Just on the brink of deciding to retire for the day, the call went out to defend a family's yacht from an Emergent raid. That was exactly the break he needed to get himself focused, and he returned to his Armour and headed straight for the battlefield. At least he could do /something/ right...

Aspect: Louder Than Words
Invoke when leading by example or when seeking to be underestimated. Compel when making unprepared public speeches or trying to hold non-personal conversation.

Looking good?

So the phase one tie in look like this so far, assuming I didn't miss anything. Guest stars are list after the colon.

Each character should guest star in two of the other characters' phase ones.

Gwydion's Phase One: ?, ?
Brun's Phase One: ?, ?
Roland's Phase One: Brun, ?
Meara's Phase One: Gwydion, ?

Re: Character Creation Discussion

I admit to being strangled by RL lately, but also trying to come up with something...

I did decide to reword my Phase One a bit though.  Perhaps that will help the others....

Phase One - Attempt Two

Euryleia was built around what was left from his own sisters' destroyed Armors.  Brun's Euryleia is his pride, his joy, his heartache, his sorrow.  She is his Lady.  And she has many needs.  It was seeking replacement parts to keep her running smoothly that brought Brun to the floating wreckage of a recent battle in the void between Earth and Luna.  The Emergent forces had been stopped... At cost.  Picking through such wreckage and death was beneath most knights.  But, needs must.  It should have been easy, but the sudden arrival of a patrol wing of Knights dashed that hope.  First they insulted Euryleia; Piece of junk...  How could a man even fit in a woman's Armor?  Then they decided that picking over the shattered remains of glorious battle was dishonorable...and required penance to be exacted...  Brun felt differently.

I wanted to play up his lesser, vagabond-knight status.  Now, perhaps another PC came to his defense.... Or.... Joined in the mocking and beating...

Now... Which other story to join in...

Re: Character Creation Discussion

Phase 3 Attempt - Meara

Brun had long gotten used to the idea of being lost to his family.  Cut away like some diseased limb to keep the family healthy.  His return from the Edge to join Arthur's crusade did not go unnoticed.  Calling on a family friend, Brun's mother arranged to meet with her "lost" son on their yacht in secret.  To try and dissuade him from returning; fearing he will bring further shame down on the family with his new warrior desires.  Not only did he live amongst pirates... But now he wants to pilot an Armor?  For a Venusian prince, this was not done.  The Emergent raid provided a needed respite from her tirade.  But she forbade him from joining the fight.... And he obeyed... But, burning with shame as he watched the fight rage around him, he decided it would be the last time he did...

Maybe I should change my Aspect: Yes, Milady to. No, Milady.  It was meant to represent his deferential male upbringing in a female warrior society...

Re: Character Creation Discussion

I'm just trying to figure out how to do this all chronologically.  I can come up with plenty of ways to join the others, but I have a bit of an idea for how Meara's gonna develop, so I kinda need to know what order we're doing these.

Re: Character Creation Discussion

Hm. Havin' a hard time slipping myself in anywhere else. Wondering if I can figure out a way to be involved in a story that doesn't require me fighting something or being all political, but since I think that covers all the bases of "doing stuff" in proper adventure mode, anything else would have to wait for the game to start. :P

Might drop myself into Brun's Phase One. Still thinking. Advice? Ideas?

Re: Character Creation Discussion

I think stepping in on my Phase One is very fitting Gwydion.  Would he join in the character assassination/duel against the scrounging Edge Knight?  Or would he think better off it and switch sides to stand in defense of an honorable knight in ill-fitting armour?

As for Chronology....  I dunno that its necessary.  But willing to help hgash it out.

Meara, good with my Phase Three attaching our family backgrounds?  Maybe they were friends once in younger days?

I organized all my stuff into my description.  I also wernt asgead and designed Euryleia's stats, which lead to set at readjustment for myself.

Re: Character Creation Discussion

I'm fine with anyone attaching their phases to mine and tying in backgrounds.  It helps flesh out characters and develop ties between us.  As for chronology, I had sort of written my phase one with the intent that it was Meara's foray into the world itself.  Then again, I'm sure most of us wrote our phase ones with that intent as well, so I don't think I'm alone with that.

So now I gotta figure out how to work around that idea and still keep everything flowing properly.  I'll survive somehow!

PHASE THREE: On the Wings of Justice
Gwydion had been close and heard the warning call. "Emergent forces sighted, send backup." He was all that could be spared, having been traveling with no other Armours. Going off alone into the darkness, the young knight found he was too late to help, but the enemy was at least defeated. What he found instead was a patrol of Knights harassing a scavenger. Not just with words, but with blades, when he'd lifted no finger against them. Gwydion wasn't about to let that happen. Moving to the lone warrior's side, the pair faced down the patrolmen, each side ready and willing to make their point clear with violence. Fortunately, it didn't come to that. None of them would want it to become known that they'd laid a hand on Arthur's nephew. But the fact that he was coming to the aid of such vultures would soon become news in various halls.

Re: Character Creation Discussion

I've renamed my Phase Three aspect to Arthur's Nephew, putting narrative context to my +4 Lineage and how it was addressed in that scene. I've also copy/pasted the Broadsword Armour to my sheet, though I'm not sure I like the Death's Head. Now that I'm more carefully reading the Armour section, I'll be coming up with a few changes to have looked at.

Right now I think the first change will be to rename my Armour to Longsword, then adjust its components to make it more suited for dueling. All my ideas so far instead make it more suited for mass combat. :P

I might go with that, though. Have the character be suited for duels, and bring that into an Armour suited for the field. That will give him a fighting style completely his own, and well suited to his particular talents: the Armour will close him in with his enemies, where his swordsmanship will be of best use, while at the same time allowing him to survive engagements with multiple opponents at once. Stupid tactic in real combat, kind of awesome in fantasy mecha combat.

And I somehow forgot Stunts all this time. I've chosen three. One is from the Fate Core book rather than Camelot Trigger, so I hope that's okay.
