Re: The Supermarket
Xavier winced as the blast hit him, but he had to try and help these people.  He couldn't back down.

"I'll do my best," said Xavier, walking slowly towards the floating figure.  "I need you to fight this.  I know what it's like, when the power comes bursting out of you, and you just can't keep it inside.  I need you to stay calm, just don't panic.  Don't worry.  You can't hurt me with that.  Just take your time, gather your will, and try to keep the power under control. It's part of you.  I know you can do this.  Just get a feel for how it works, how you can guide it, how you can aim it, how you can control it."

I can't ignore a pathetic "Help me."  Perhaps a Pesuasion roll will work. Carapace (Xavier Morales) rolled 10 using 1d20+6 ((4)). Hells no, Luck reroll:
Carapace (Xavier Morales) rolled 23 using 1d20+6 ((17)).
Much better.

Re: The Supermarket
The mutant raised it's arm to blast you, but you can see it struggling and the blast goes wide due to that.

Re: The Supermarket
"Come on, now," said Xavier, advancing on the figure.  He tried putting his arms around it, pinning them down, in the hopes that either the comfort of a hug or the difficulty of aiming around armored arms would help.

"I know you can do this.  I trust you.  Don't be afraid.  You can't hurt me.  I'm here with you, and I'm going to keep you safe."

Going for a Grab to help support what I did before.
Carapace (Xavier Morales) rolled 23 using 1d20+6 ((17)).
Eh, I've got more Luck.
Carapace (Xavier Morales) rolled 28 using 1d20+13 ((15)).
Str 12, but with luck, it won't come down to that.

Re: The Supermarket
You manage to pin the person so they were unable to do anything but repeat that mantra over and over.

"Perhaps I should deal with any of the others now that you have this under control," Stardroid said.

"I'll help," said Xavier, transferring the one he was holding to one arm, and getting ready to spray more noxious fumes around the market as needed.

Re: The Supermarket
It seems there were two left, as they fired at Stardroid, who was able to shrug them off before charging one of them. The one coming at you was chanting like the other one.

"It hurts. It hurts. It hurts. It hurts."

"I'm sorry," said Xavier.  "I know it hurts.  I'll try to help."

...Xavier only really had one way to stop the pain for now, though.  He shoulder-slammed the poor mutant, hoping that unconsciousness would bring relief.

<Orange>All-Out Attack 5 with Str 12.<

Re: The Supermarket
Your attack drives the mutant back, it fires a wild shot at you that misses, destroying the chip display behind you.

Swearing in Spanish, Xavier pushed his assault, repeating the same attack again.

Same attack.  Same roll, too.

The attack sent the mutant flying, landing in the fish tank.

"Hello? Is this thing on?"  voice asked over the speakers. "Speak up so I can hear you."

"Oh, I'm just fine," the voice said. "Looks like I'll have to refine the formula if they can't deal with the likes of you and your friend."

"Stardroid, can you trace that?" asked Xavier.  It was a long shot, but...

"What's all this about?" he shouted at the voice, hoping to keep it talking.  "What's the purpose of this chaos?"

"'Chaos'? This was a field test, my dear boy," the voice said. "I had to see if the formula would work as expected. Sadly, it didn't. It seems I should stick to my usual genetic experiments. Though I'm sure I can sell this to someone."

Re: The Supermarket
Damnit!  Maybe if I keep them talking...

"So what's the point of all this random poisoning, anyway?" Xavier continued, challenging the speaker.  "People with powers that they can't control and you can't control, picking random people instead of finding good subjects-- you aren't a real scientist, are you?  You're just sick in the head, looking for ways to hurt people so that you feel better.  Otherwise, you'd have a plan, and you obviously don't."

"This was just further experimentation to see what the serum would do to the human body," the voice said. "After all, there was no way of knowing if everyone who got it would end up like that clumsy idiot."

"Damned if I know," the voice said. "I don't look for curses for my experiments. Why would I?"

"I believe I have located it," Stardroid said.
