Dellas stood at the top of the wagon, his excitement barely contained as he watched the fight. Already he was going over the words in his head preparing the spell. It was going to be spectacular he invisoned the fire engulfing the troll, it's roars as it flames spread over it and around it.

Having taken a moment to evaluate the situation, Bruenor sees these guards need help.  These "captive" trolls are moments away from breaking loose and being a real problem.

He spurs Demon into action, and together they charge at the nearest troll; Bruenor swings his sword as he gets in range,

"I can still see Dellas and he's not exploding, so it can't be all that bad."

At the very rearmost of the caravan, she settled back down and remained vigilant for the main attack to coalesce.

Volsh clicks his tongue. "What the heck is wrong with this city." He grumbles as he runs to put himself into position for a charge. As he goes he brings widowmaker down to aim at the Troll's torso. Once he begins to get close he lets out a roar, his body seems to grow slightly larger as his muscles swell and blood-veins bulge like wriggling blue earthworms under his skin. Strangely Volsh seems to take on a somewhat feral look as he changes. With a stomp the barbarians speed increases until he finally comes within reach of the troll lunging forward with his spear.

Seeing that the situation with the trolls appears to be worsening, and figuring they'll better protect the caravan by helping the soldiers than waiting until the creatures break loose and head for the caravan, Dante puts Mask into a moderate gallop toward the front. As they close on the foremost wagon, he looks around for any other trolls. Those two are bad enough, but having their ruckus call in others to help them would be far worse!

Reining in when he gets within bowshot -- having no intention of closing with the monsters -- Dante nudges Mask to pivot a step or two to put the horse at an angle to the conflict. Satisfied that he'll have room to fully draw his bow, and once certain the horse is going to stay stopped, he draws back on his bow and fires off an arrow at the nearest troll.

Re: At Fort Cross

Haazheel Thorn:
Again Haazheel acts, three fingers aimed.

Bellow again, you dangerous troll
These magic missiles will take a toll!

23:18, Today: Haazheel Thorn rolled 6 using 3d4 with rolls of 2,2,2.  MM. 9 Damage

Fierce darts of light streak unerringly to their marks, striking the troll one after the other!

Bruenor Sedricson:
Having taken a moment to evaluate the situation, Bruenor sees these guards need help.  These "captive" trolls are moments away from breaking loose and being a real problem.

He spurs Demon into action, and together they charge at the nearest troll; Bruenor swings his sword as he gets in range,

12:21, Today: Bruenor Sedricson rolled 28 using 1d20+9+2.  Charge attack w/ longsword.
12:22, Today: Bruenor Sedricson rolled 5 using 1d8+4.  Dmg Longsword.

...and Demon lashes out with a razor-sharp hoof.

12:24, Today: Bruenor Sedricson rolled 17 using 1d20+6+2.  Demon hoof attack.
12:24, Today: Bruenor Sedricson rolled 5 using 1d6+4.  Demon hoof dmg.

Demon thunders up the canyon, and Bruenor and his mount strike together with sword and hoof in a punishing combination!  The troll lets out another bellow of pain.

Lantamori:
"It could just be a diversion," Lantamori explained to her jittery warhorse.  She stood in the stirrups and spotted the halfling wizard atop one of the wagons.

"I can still see Dellas and he's not exploding, so it can't be all that bad."

At the very rearmost of the caravan, she settled back down and remained vigilant for the main attack to coalesce.

Lantamori keeps a careful watch out, seeing even the birds have been frightened into silence by the commotion behind her.

quote:
"[Language unknown: Moing pavor ar ioou i maneveres ch Saanli! Anyateers ri tate reawershe n stionelar i enna usng whierathi!]" Narthian intones while slinging his bow and munching on something about the size of a berry. Brief green auras swirl around his hands and feet, as well as the paws of Thunder. "Come Thunder! Stay close by my side!" he says and climbs nimbly up the wall.

Climb 20 feet up. Handle Animal roll to Push Thunder to Spider Climb, in case the DM needs it or something similar. 10:33, Today: Narthian Goldleaf rolled 22 using 1d20+14 ((8)). If Thunder won't climb, Narthian will order him to Defend Haazhel or Dellas, whichever is closer to the Trolls.

Thunder mounts the wall behind his packmate with some trepidation, but also trust.  Elf and wolf run up the wall and down the canyon, getting into position above the troll (but out of its reach).

The remaining chain-holders are nearly knocked flat by the troll's strength as it flexes, trying to get out of Bruenor and Demon's range.  The troll claws at Bruenor with vicious strength, bruising him through his armor.

Dellas Nump:
Dellas stood at the top of the wagon, his excitement barely contained as he watched the fight. Already he was going over the words in his head preparing the spell. It was going to be spectacular he invisoned the fire engulfing the troll, it's roars as it flames spread over it and around it.

Dellas judges his moment carefully as he sees his teammates start to run forward.  By aiming behind the troll, a bit to the side, and a few feet above the ground, he can detonate a ball of fiery fury that, while scorching everyone's eyebrows, only really his the troll.  With the chains around it, it can't dodge, and takes the full brunt of the flames!

The troll screams at that with a note of panic in its voice.

Averdante:

Averdante gets within easy bowshot (but far from combat) and reins in Mask, firing off one arrow after the other.  The first hits the canyon wall, but the other skims the troll's tough skin where its scorched from the flames.

Volsh son of Vor:
Volsh clicks his tongue. "What the heck is wrong with this city." He grumbles as he runs to put himself into position for a charge. As he goes he brings widowmaker down to aim at the Troll's torso. Once he begins to get close he lets out a roar, his body seems to grow slightly larger as his muscles swell and blood-veins bulge like wriggling blue earthworms under his skin. Strangely Volsh seems to take on a somewhat feral look as he changes. With a stomp the barbarians speed increases until he finally comes within reach of the troll lunging forward with his spear.

OOC this round run to get into position to charge. Next round rage then charge!
Rage: +4 str&Con, +2 Will -2 AC
hp:73/63 AC 16 T 10 FF 16 Wis: +4

21:41, Today: Volsh son of Vor rolled 11 using 1d8+8.  Damage.

21:40, Today: Volsh son of Vor rolled 16 using 1d20+13.  Charge Attack.

Volsh sprints into position and then lets the anger of his ancestors take over, charging with a blood-curdling howl into battle.  Widowmaker flashes black as she stabs deep into the troll, and the beast grunts in pain.  As the troll's tries to rear back, Volsh can see the troll's eyes are red; Widowmaker's rage power has worked, and now the troll only has eyes for blood, not escape!

Farian Raymellie:
Farian runs as fast as he can towards the scuffle, hoping to get there and help corral the other trolls before they all get loose.

Farian's spell ends and a beam of light strikes him, making him grow like a might oak until he's easily the size of the troll.  Running quickly, he grabs the nearest chain and pulls hard and down to force the troll to the ground instead of rearing up to grab him or anyone else.

Sir Aberlayne has put both hands on her shield and has taken a defensive stance, keeping herself between the enraged troll and her ward.

The troll lashes out with a single claw, but Farian's grip on the chain (and the renewed heart by the others on the other chains) barely keep him from getting to Volsh this time.

Narthian Goldleaf:
Narthian and Thunder continue the climb along the canyon wall as Narthian encants another spell. When complete, he begins to change shape, becoming a slightly smaller twin to Thunder.

Turn 1: Single Move + cast Bull's Strength (shared with Thunder).
Turn 2: Single Move and transform into a wolf.
Turn 3: Try something crazy if close enough.

From above comes a curious sight: two wolves leaping down from the canyon wall, fangs extended, landing with precision and sinking their teeth into the troll's back!

The troll seems badly wounded from the arrows, swords, hooves, spells, fire, arrow, spear, and fangs, but it's not dead or unconscious quite yet!

The three remaining trolls, while restive, seem taken aback by the party's assault and use of fire, and don't seem to be fighting to get free quite so vigorously.

Dellas sends the flaming sphere on its way with a gesture, circling the troll like a restless panther about to spring!

Haazheel Thorn:

Haazheel seeks all around for danger, not seeing anything in the immediate vicinity.

--

Lantamori keeps an eye on the rear, seeing one odd thing.  There seems to be a bat that has decided to cling to the side of the canyon.  In daylight.  It's a brown bat, fairly large, but blends so well in with the rock that it had taken her until now to spot it.

Steed and rider lash out together, hoof, tooth, and blade biting into the troll's tough hide!

"What are you men doing, trying to get yourselves killed?!" he asks, clearly upset about the situation and trying to figure out why they would have captured trolls and tried to bring them into a civilization.

"Bringing witnesses!" one of the men gasps, setting his feet to help keep the troll down.

The arrow sails over the fight to slide along the ground in isolated splendor.

Volsh's next attack with Widowmaker, however, is just as fierce and devastating as a bloodthirsty barbarian could wish.  The spear makes a good hole in the troll, and the creature collapses to the ground.

Narthian Goldleaf:

As if to emphasis his comments, he bites at the downed troll. Thunder repeats many of the snarls, reserving them for the remaining two trolls, though.

No adjustment included for prone or incapacitated target. 14:36, Today: Narthian Goldleaf rolled 16,7 using d20+6,d6+3 ((10,4)).

Narthian's mouth is filled with foul troll blood as he bites, and Thunder lets the other tall two-leggers know that he and his packmate will take no nonsense from them.

Farian Raymellie:
Were these trolls intelligent? Farian honestly knew so little of the creatures that he wasn't entirely sure what the man was talking about, but he was more than willing to help, if only to ensure they didn't get hurt. "Stop attacking, and let's get these things tied up," the priest suggested to the others as he continued helping to hold his troll down.

Farian continues to hold his chain down, and one of the guards at the gate goes to grab the last free chain as the others take up their own and pull tight.

"We're trying, Sun's Ray!"

Sir Aberlayne slides down off Valiant and goes to touch the man who was thrown.  There is a brief glow of light from Yondalla's healing touch, and the man opens his eyes slowly.

Dellas Nump:
Dellas excitement fades as he does.not.get.to burn anything more, but he retains his focus on the sphere watching as it circles back and forth near the trolls. A faint glimmer of hope and madness on his eyes.

Dellas' fire sphere rolls back and forth like a restless watchdog, and the closest roll watches it with wary and hateful eyes.

Lantamori:
The elf found the bat as interesting as seeing a forest squirrel.  Not out of the ordinary.  Unless, of course, either of them were wearing clothes, which the bat was not.

She continued looking around while keeping an ear out for further calamity emanating from the fore of the caravan.

The sound from the front the caravan dies down to just a few shouts, rather than full-on mayhem.  The bat leans out from his position clinging to the wall, looks at Lantamori, and makes a gesture of the sort seen only on the rudest of humanoid hands.  Then it leaps from the walls and flaps down the canyon in a wild, zig-zag pattern.

Volsh son of Vor:
Volsh holds his spear at the ready. "The only good troll is a dead one!" He growled. "Barring dead, incapacitated works too." The point of Widowmaker hovers warily about ready to attack if the trolls start to resist again.

OOC Ready action to attack the trolls if they start to struggle again.

Volsh readies his spear, and pricks the troll if he so much as twitches too hard in his bonds.

Bruenor and Demon also stand ready, and the troll seems to realize that with both the chains, the party, and fire, they are not in a good position to escape.

A few moments later there is movement on the walls, and the Guard have bright green arrows knocked to their bows now.  "Give us clean shots, this will knock them out!" they say.  If any of the party wishes to help, the chain-men pull so the trolls are more exposed, letting the Guard fire three arrows into each troll.  The wounds don't close around the arrows, and the trolls' eyes soon droop.  Eventually, each sags to the ground, and finally collapses, asleep.

The lead chain-man wipes his brow and turns to Farian, the largest amongst you.  "My thanks, Sun's Ray, to you and your friends.  Grollock and the others have a lot to answer for, quite literally, and we have to question them.  The only safe place to do that was here, but my messenger-bird apparently didn't get through, because the thallis arrows weren't ready when we got here.  You have saved us no end of trouble!"

Re: At Fort Cross

Dellas sighs as the trolls slump over and his ball of flame is no longer useful to their cause. He watches for a bit more as he rolls it back and forth and causing it to hop a bit before he releases the magic. Scrambling down the side he runs towards the trolls to get a good look at them.

"Never seen a troll before, read about them. Heard they don't like fire. That I did. I like fire. The way it flickers and dances to and fro."

Re: At Fort Cross

Narthian is enjoying being a wolf, and simply sits until the caravan is ready to move again. Thunder takes a little longer to simmer down, pacing back and forth beside Narthian for a while before also sitting and waiting.
