"Yes, ten o'clock is fine."  The voice on the other end of the phone goes quiet for a moment.  "It's about my son."

Simone sits up and switches the phone to her other ear. This conversation was getting interesting. "I see. Well, I hope whatever it is I can be of assistance."

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
Alex rubs the bridge of his nose and thinks that it has been an eventful day after all. Deciding that Google will still be there in the morning, he closes his laptop and stands up. After a stretch, he gets ready for bed. He leaves some food out for Giles and then gets into bed and is promptly asleep.

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
The next morning, a Saturday, dawns hot and unusually humid.  The story of the TCU students' murder is all over the news, and an exhausted-looking Detective Reyes is quoted on every major news network and both the Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Dallas Morning News.  The stories briefly mention a "disturbance" in the vicinity, but Carina seems to have kept the zombie attack under wraps.  Also reported are rumors of a wolf roaming the neighborhood in the vicinity.  It all adds up to a bunch of unhappy people complaining to the reporters who will give them the air time.  A final report comes from the Southlake Forest Park Medical Center, where a businessman is hailing a surgeon who managed to reattach his hand.

At 10 am, Simon enters the cafe by his studio.  There are a handful of people having a quiet meal, but for the most part it's empty.  At a table by the window sits a middle-aged white man in a neatly pressed button-down shirt and Dockers.  A menu sits in front of him, but he continually eyes the front door.  When he sees Simon, he flags him down.

"Simon Lamar?  I'm Trevor Durham.  Thank you for coming."

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
"Call me Trevor, please."  He smiles.  It's a friendly smile, if a practiced one.  As a doctor, Durham obviously has experience with a comforting, professional smile.  He reaches into the front pocket of his button-down and pulls out a Polaroid, sliding it across the table toward Simon.  The picture shows a pale, thin young man in his early twenties, wearing a TCU t-shirt.  The purple does his pallid complexion few favors.  He also has deep shadows under his eyes.  He's smiling in the photograph--in much the same way as Trevor Durham is now--and the two have striking physical similarities.  "I told you on the phone last night that I wanted to talk to you about my son.  I need you to help me find him."

Simon frowns, concerned. "He's missing?" He picks up the photo and examines it more closely. The face doesn't look particularly familiar.

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
"Three years now." Durham says.  "He was pre-med at TCU, you see, and he wanted to go to Baylor for medical school, like I did.  But he didn't get in."  He hangs his head in sorrow for a moment.  "His roommates claim he killed himself, but he didn't leave a note and they never found his body."

"I think he was too ashamed to come home."  Durham shakes his head.  "And I've heard rumors that he's been seen in a few places recently.  A graveyard near the university.   Another in Haltom City.   Walking up 114 near the new Forest Park in Southlake."

Simon raises an eyebrow. "And you feel as though you can't go to the police with this information? Instead you seek out a community radio host. Have the authorities already dismissed your suspicions?"

Simon smiles wryly. "That's certainly true. And I've always felt that it's my duty to do more than just report the news, but to also serve this community, especially when official channels fail." He takes a moment to memorize the features in the photo.

"A graveyard near the university..." Suspicion danced briefly though his mind, but he set it aside until he could find more data to either confirm or deny.

"A graveyard near the university, Haltom City, and New Forest Park. Who was he seen by, and how did you hear about it?"

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
It is an act of will not to start at that familiar name. Iryna was Chosen of something, she had to be in order to frequent Callahan's. Suddenly Simon wished that he'd asked for her number last night. If she had some kind of a connection to Dr. Durham's son, then perhaps he was Chosen too? The suspicion in the back of Simon's mind was growing stronger.

He smiled across the table at Dr. Durham.

"I'll definitely look into it. If there's one perk to my job it's that I have a lot of contacts. Do you happen to have Iryna's contact information? I'd like to follow up with her."

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
Alex wakes up early, before the sun has fully risen. He has a light breakfast and goes for a run. When he returns to his apartment he is fully awake and ready. First, he draws thick curtains over the window, then he sits down at his computer and pulls up the mysterious email. He summons his concentration and prepares to use his power.

Alex Reed rolled 1 success using 6d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7. Int + Investigation. Investigate list.

Alex also uses his Second Ability Excellency (Investigation) and spends 6m of essence to buy 3 successes. Add 3 successes for a total of 4.

He looks through the records of the similar items he located the night before looking for mentions of the other items in their historical records. He checks to see if he can find any of the similar items in the area. He also searches the catalog of the local library for any books that might be helpful in his search. As he spends his power, the caste mark on his forehead burns with a silvery light. Alex types furiously, reading through page after page at furious speed. From time to time he will write down a brief note on a pad of paper next to the computer. At last, as he completes his search he checks his email to see if Jake has replied to his email.

Shane begrudgingly rolls out of bed 10ish.  Standing up, he begins to stride toward the kitchenette when he trips over the pile of clothes he'd worn the day before.  After clamboring to his feet with a few curses muttered under his breath, Shane brews a strong pot of coffee and settles down to brown the morning online newspapers.  In particular he makes sure to read several local Dallas paper's for news of the night before.
Shane Franco rolled 2 successes using 7d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7. Searching for information via online news,  this is perception + investigation.

While browsing Shane shoots a reply email to Meyers and Johnston inquiring as to the nature of their interest in his research.

After sending the email Shane does another online search for Maria Francona
Shane Franco rolled 2 successes using 8d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7. Intelligence Investigation for looking online for maria francona.

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
Winston wakes up at nine and slides into a robe. He glides to his kitchen and prepares a light breakfast, pulling up comics on his tablet. Once he finishes eating, he scans the news for last night's events.

Winston Lon rolled 1 success using 5d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system

After glancing through the news, he walks over to a docked laptop, launching a sketching application. His hands hover over the keyboard, as he weighs the merit of using an engineering program to recreate an image, but he reminds himself that he is quite familiar with the program and should be able to draw the black essence that bathed the zombies easily. His fingers begin flying over the keyboard as he focuses, using his own essence to augment his ability.

Winston Lon rolled 2 successes using 8d10 and spent 8 motes of essence to buy 4 successes via the Second Craft Excellency

Once he finishes, he saves the file as "The Dark Outside" and files it away.

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
The various news searches reveal no more information than was easily observed, though Shane can rest easy knowing that no one pinned the random wolf sighting to any young men on motorcycles.  There are some upset homeowners wondering what animal control is going to do.

Alex's search--and Jake's email--both reveal that, while none of the items on the list have been seen anywhere, several similar items were recently purchased by the Kimball Art Museum in Ft. Worth, and are going to displayed first at a Halloween charity banquet.  (It's September 6, if you've forgotten).

Winston's drawing is an accurate depiction of the black essence from the night before.

Shane's search reveals that Maria Francona is exactly what she says she is.  An image of her at a recent charity dinner shows her as a middle-aged woman with black hair and a very white smile.  In the picture she's wearing an expensive cocktail dress and a pearl necklace.

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
Alex sits back and thinks. He doesn't like working without knowing more details, but recent events have made him curious and he doesn't believe in coincidence. Something is going on and his natural curiosity compels him. Now to decide the best course of action. Charity banquets are stuffy and sycophantic affairs; exactly the sort of situation he most despises, but perhaps there is another solution.

Alex gets out his phone and writes a text message to Simone: "Something peaked my interest. Charity Banquet at Kimball Museum on Halloween. Might be related.

Re: Episode 1:  Elegy
Winston pulls out a USB drive and plugs it into his computer. After entering the password, he saves the drawing to the stick and wipes it clean from his computer. He sits back, and rolls his eyes a little. Shaking his head, he begins to search for information on the previous night's... zombies. And anything he might pick up on the perpetrator's type of exaltation.
08:15, Mon 20 Apr 2015: Winston Lon rolled 6 successes using 6d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 ((3,10,10,9,8,1)).
Concluding his search, he compares the information he found to what he already knows about such subjects. It has been a while since he has had to research anything outside of airplane development, but Winston used to read all kinds of literature and articles.
08:19, Mon 20 Apr 2015: Winston Lon rolled 7 successes using 10d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 ((7,10,2,3,8,2,1,7,9,8)).
Hopefully something of it will be of use to the officer.
