Wanted GMs & Players

This is the thread where you can find FATE players to join your game or find a GM for that FATE game you've been dying to try.

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

I'm looking for Fate (preferably Accelerated/FAE) with Fantasy as it genre.

Fate Pathfinder looks like a nice bet, but I can accept Dungeons of Fate too, even it looks like a quick game for one night only. PF don't is a "MUST PLAY", but is fantasy.

Homebrew fantasy settings for FAE (if done in a way that isn't just a MMO rip-of) could be a good thing too.

Other thing i'm looking is a game that happens in a world like Fate/Zero or Fate/Stay Night: modern days with mages, spirit servants that fight each other when commanded and some other big bad that wants to kill'em all.

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

This brings up a question :)

I've had moderators remove game links from a forum post in a discussion forum much like this that specifically asked for links to games (violates the RPoL rules). What's the best way to tell players about your games? Via private posts?

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

Just post a link to the game here in this thread. That's what it's for. I've seen it done dozens of times in other discussion forums without incident or problem.

Please only post links to games that:
A) Are Fate Games

B) Are actively requesting players.

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

Posted this in the Players Wanted and Interest Check forums but I'm going to put it here too. I'm attempting to set up a solo (maybe a small group if I get some really good RTJs) Fate Core game in a fantasy setting. I want to avoid the typical DnD formula of dungeon delving, monster slaying, and treasure grabbing and instead focus on an interesting and (hopefully) fun plot. As of now the setting is "generic medieval fantasy" and the plot is "the king sends you to save the princess". I'd like to use these two ideas as a spring board to further develop the setting and plot.

Here's a link for those interested: link to another game

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

"Orphans of Chaos", a game using FAE, just started recruiting. Full description in Players Wanted.

quote:
This game is to be a modern, yet fantastical tale about a group of orphans raised in a strict boarding school who begin to discover that they may not be human beings. They have been kidnapped from their true parents, robbed of their powers, and raised in ignorance by super-beings no more human than they are: pagan gods or fairy-queens, demon-monsters, witches, or things even stranger. The children must experiment with, and learn to control, their strange abilities, but to what end, they must decide for themselves.

Please join so we can have enough players to work out the setting details and start to play. The game will blend sf and fantasy tropes.

Anyone up for GM'ing a solo FATE game for me? Or FAE for that matter? PM if so. Most interested in superheroics though more in the fantasy or sf vein than running around dark alleys and rooftops. Open to other ideas, too. It would depend on your tastes and inclinations as well.

Anyone want to run a solo scene or two for a noob where said noob could ask ridiculously stupid questions throughout? Doesn't have to be all in depth or anything, but maybe collaborating on some setting and scene aspects and how they tie into the game wouldn't hurt.

Any takers? I could probably post daily if not a bit more to help expedite it.

Desert Fantasy... could be cool.

Would it be possible to have individual threads for solo play until we feel comfortable enough to mingle? I mean, most of us claim noob status, but what if someone has a lot less questions than I do, or finished their character days before me, for example. I often feel like dropping out when I feel that I am slowing someone or the game down.

Maybe a collaborative world build thread, then solo threads to get the feel of things, then possibly a scene or two together and see where that takes us?

Would it be Core or FAE?

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

I've played in a few short games of Fate but most haven't lasted past a scene or two. Furthermore I have never run it. I don't think I've quite gotten the best way to use the system, but I'm interested in running something related to Iron Edda: War or Iron and Bone, which mixes Core and FAE to accommodate various scales of story (hero, giant, epic). Any system that can accommodate extremely variable scale gets my appreciation.

So, all that is to say, I'm willing to join in too, maybe figure out the real meaning of aspects, etc, and perhaps answer some questions. I wouldn't go fast though, however, since I just had my first baby a month ago, and I'm about to start teaching a course on top of my normal day job. Of course, I am just as well not participating, due to all those elements I just mentioned.

Harrigan, by "I could use the practice myself" are you meaning to offer to GM? EDIT: I missed that atom was.

I was -- but it looks like atmo has it under control. I was thinking smaller scale -- like I would truly run a scene or two to show how the mechanics worked (fighting, avoiding traps, bartering for goods, figuring out dungeon puzzles, etc.), not actually start a full-on campaign. I'm already doing that as well, and don't have time for a second. :)

That's what I initially envisioned too.

A quick game with 2-4 scenes (nothing elaborate) that showcased a bit of physical and social "fighting". Maybe covering a challenge, conflict, and contest (maybe each of those is a scene?)

Demo how Setting and Scene Aspects play out, etc. The person running it could even do pre-gens if really short for time. A blurb about the setting, or even just a one liner, with Aspects pre-defined would be alright. Though being able to contribute one would be cool. It is my opinion, and opinions are like..., that 3-4 setting aspects should be enough to do the equivalent of creating a setting in another rules set. Or, at least I hope I'm right, because that is a serious draw for me personally to FATE.

So, in a nutshell, I'm still looking for an introduction...

Not to mention just plain old basic FAE. I realize it can be "hacked" to better suit a setting, feel, etc. but at this point I just want to make sure I have a solid grasp of FAE.

You guys certainly don't need my permission. Harrigan, you have GM Access for a reason. I trust your judgement. The same goes for the other 'mods' here. This Discussion Forum is for promoting FATE, and you're doing just that. I may have started it, but that doesn't mean I consider myself an authority here. That said, I am responsible for the content posted by users here, so I do reserve the right to take down anything that violates RPOL's terms of usage as I would in any game I run, but beyond that as long as something is related to FATE do what you feel is best. Re: Wanted GMs & Players

Alright. I'm running/starting a FATE game based upon JRPG's and general over the top anime stuff like it. Final Fantasy is not the only inspiration, though it often seems to function as a springboard.

The player I initially had seem to be slowly falling away, and the game seems to slowly be falling flat (for the second time).
I think some of the players did not think that we'd create a world together, and that character creation is needed to be done together. And I think some/most games (at least on a forum) seem to deviate around that, in that world creation and character creation kills a game. I see it as part of the game and part of the fun though.

So, I'm looking for players who would like to play in a game of FATE based on JRPG's such as, but not limited to, Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, Grandia, Dragon Warrior, Persona, Legend of Dragoon, Ogre Tactics etc.

I'm looking for players who enjoy world-building and coöperative story gaming, and do not mind spending some time setting up an incredibly fantastic world to be able to create incredibly fantastic heroes and then to create story with them.

If this sounds like something you'd like, head on over to: link to another game

Dresden Files: Blackthorn Watch

I once ran Memoria Excidit, a 3-year DFRPG game here on RPOL. We finished one complete storyline and had started another when I shut it down.

In that time, I moved to a new city and started a new job. Now that I've largely adjusted, players must understand that I cannot provide a consistent weekly pace.

The Premise
Michael McAllister, Program Coordinator for the Blackthorn Community Services Society died last week. Publicly, foul play is not suspected. To those in the know, though, foul play is a real possibility. McAllister and The Blackthorn Society were instrumental in gaining and maintaining [CITY]'s "protected" status. Now, though... with McAllister's death, the sharks are already circling... Somebody's got to stand up and renew the wards...

This time, I'm looking for four to six characters. Check out: BlackThorn Watch for more details.

I'm in no hurry to put a group together. I know it's the Christmas season. I expect this means we can use the time to build characters. Character-creation will be an open and collaborative workshop process.

In reply to atmo (msg # 30):

All,

I'll try to reignite this discussion a little bit as I'm interested in running a session of Legends of Anglerre and am looking for two or three players. I posted in Players Wanted section as well.

I've read a ton of Fate games and have played out a beginning of Dresden Files and that's about it as far as actual play goes. Anything I run will be start-stop as I discover how to better use and apply aspects, compels, and rules of the game. As long as you're willing to suffer through that, and some potentially bad storytelling, then I'm your GM! :)

Let me know in the next week or so and I'll get it up and running.

I don't know where this will lead, but my main interest is exploring FATE from Dresden files to FATE Core and FAE. So please, be a system junkie for FATE as my goal is to really try and learn its strengths and weaknesses throughout play in different genres.

Why Anglerre? Typical fantasy, my first book after Dresden, fairly generic as far as I can see. I can be convinced to do something else, if the general sentiment lies with another version of FATE.

So come one, come all, and let's get it started!

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

If you just want to do Standard Fantasy why not do it with Fate Core rather than Anglerre? Fate Core is a bit more streamlined than Fate 3.0 (which Anglerre is based on) and you can easily create characters at Anglerre's power level in Core by doing a little advancement which is much less fiddly than Anglerre's system. That's important because, as a player, I've never seen a Fate Fantasy PbP game get passed character creation.

If you do start a game, I might try and hop in.

Hey!

Good question. I'm somewhat driven by guilt as I've had Legends on my shelf for quite a while, and I want to try a "fiddly" version of Fate, such as Dresden or Legends, for their baked-in flavor. I'm an ex-HERO player so fiddly is always neat to me.

However, your second point is more concerning to me.

I don't mind going a different direction, such as FAE or FATE core with a patreon project. Eagle Eye got my attention recently for example. This may be a better approach if what you've experienced is linked with more complicated game systems.

I'll think on this.

-c

**EDIT** What do you think keeps the game from getting past PC creation in PbP games?

I've played Hero too, so I know what it's all about.

In my personal experience, I think the failure to launch is mainly due to two Factors:
1. Complicated Character Generation
2. Phases

Both are because of the back and forth involved between either player/gm or player/player. It's the nature of PbP--a 10-minute conversation in real life might take days or more probably weeks in PbP. So with GMs and players going back and forth with discussion especially with more complicated bits like Dresden's Power System it can bog down and people lose interest.

Phases do the same thing. This is the Big One. Do yourself a huge favor and skip the player interaction phases unless you have 2-3 people tops. I have seen the phases section of character generation be the sole killer of more than a few games. Just figure out how the PCs know each other and go from there.

Your original post was a reply to msg #30, which was about a desert city. Are you planning on doing a campaign set in a desert region? If you're looking for inspiration, I know that Triple Ace Games has the Land of Fire Supplements for Savage Worlds, but I've never read any of them.

It's partly what inspired me, there's a (small) description in the Hither Kingdoms of the Desert Lands that brought in mind a type of Swords & Sorcery campaign touching an ancient and mystical version of the Middle East. I thought of reinforcing this with information from the excellent Caliphate Nights supplement for True20. I don't know of any others in this period; I'll take at the SW books you mentioned. Are they high fantasy or more moderate in magic and fantastical beasts?

In reply to Cripple X (msg # 66):

A bit of post-apoc fantasy setting, not unlike Britain post-Rome fall, based in the Hither Kingdoms. Places in total or near-total ruin with ancient structures that cannot be rebuilt, warlords holding fiefdoms, powerful artifacts rumored to be hidden and guarded by equally powerful beasts or magic. The PC's lineage, religion, loyalties, origin, all play an important part in the game.

Basically I want to replicate Cornwell's Warlord trilogy using LoA and adding a dash of fantasy and magic.

The organization rules were particularly interesting in this case, but with your earlier comments it sounds like too much to replicate in the PbP format.

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

I haven't read that series, but the game idea sounds great.

If you think you can pull off a lot of world building during character creation then I say go for it. Maybe your game will be the one that makes it work. But every game that I've ever personally seen as a player on PbP has died in the attempt.

That said, there's no reason you can't do everything you want to do with it behind the scenes during play. It's just important to get things moving otherwise either the GM or players will lose interest and abandon the game.

Hello, am new to fate and I said that before. I am interested to join a game because I really want to learn the system. The GM of Blackthorn Watch (Dresden Files RPG) told me that I could join, but the game has progressed quite a bit, so I didn't join. I was afraid I couldn't catch up! If there is any new game you want to run, am in! I have the Fate Core and Fate system toolkit.

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

I'm not interested in this game, but I can give you some advice, for being a GM.

PbP are slower than real life, but not as slow as you might think. People need to invest some time into their character creation, and it shouldn't take more than one day. As I noticed, people who tend to take days for making their characters, are simply lack in enthusiasm, and will lag behind in game too. Just as IRL, you need to invest time into a multiplayer game, PbP doesn't mean you play whenever you want.

Be mechanically descriptive! Few lines to grab a feeling of the room, and some to describe how that mechanically affects the characters. If the players can't read and understand a post in 5 minutes, they will lose interest in replying at all. Same goes for the players, I asked them to only describe their actions, not their thoughts and melodrama. It can affect their actions and words, but if you skip a day partying, and come back that n players posted k lines, and most of them are not related to the actual scene, that makes you lose interest.

You need to put your mind into the game. Sometimes watch a movie, compose a scene beforehand, as if you were the players, how would you handle the next situation, if you were the player characters. You need to get into the mood sometimes, otherwise after a while you will feel your game as more and obligation, and will lose interest in countinueing anymore. In one of my past games, I had many really active players, but I just simply lose interest in the game altogether.

As I noticed, players are tend to be more willing to post if the GM is active too. If you can keep up a fine speed for 3 months, which means about 1 post/day rate, then they are likely to stay, as they feel their characters won't go to waste. And I had been playing a lot of games, where the GM just simply disappeared after a few months, because he lost interest...

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

Cripple X and korodikrisz, thank you both for your advice on how to run a game here. I'm going to chew on this a bit before I move forward. Between you both I'm thinking less detailed and less rules are a plus which wasn't what I had in mind to begin with.

To all that are willing to play, when I'm ready to launch I'll send you a message. It may not be what I've written below, which *does* include a bit of worldbuilding and character investment. Plus, I'm going to take k's information on pacing & time commitment seriously. I don't want this to die on the vine and I've had my experiences as a player with exactly the same frustrations.

Hakootoko, no link yet but when I have one I'll publish it here.

No problem, GMChase. Hopefully I was helpful at least a little bit.

This thread really got my urge up to try some FATE fantasy. Something just simple and generic, probably centered around a small town of some sort. Nothing crazy epic or post-apocalyptic. Just a good traditional, lighthearted Fantasy adventure.

Would anybody be up for running something like that?

Re: Wanted GMs & Players

I would like to get into a relatively lighthearted game with a mix of roleplaying and action/adventure. I would like a more narrative system preferably FATE or Cortex Plus.

Settings/styles I'm most interested in (in no particular order):
 • Superhero (Silver or Bronze age preferred, could work with Gold age as well)
 • Science Fiction w/ space exploration (Firefly would be awesome, Star Frontiers is also good)
 • Fantasy Martial Arts (Tianxia is my preference)
 • Pulp Adventure (Spirit of the Century or similar)
 • Space 1889 (I love the setting, the default system is okay)

I'm not interested in Adult or Solo games. I'm not a fan of playing canon characters and have a strong preference for playing my own creations.

I just wanted to put that out there in case there's anyone thinking about running a game and not sure what to run. If you have a game that fits my preference and are looking for additional players, let me know.

Thanks!

Countless worlds are at your fingertips! Heroes battle against villains. Love stirs and friendship blossoms between them. What will happen to our erstwhile protagonists? Let's find out together!

Premise: I am interested in starting a game of FAE from the ground up, including a concise version, made for play-by-post format, of game creation done collaboratively by the players. The key to this game will be collaboration and fun! The rule of cool and awesome is fully in force! :)

Untitled Four-Color FAE Project

Premise: Four-Color FAE is a rules supplement to Fate Accelerated Edition by Bill Garrett and Mike Lindsey. We will be using A Spark in Fate Core for game creation, but at a more accelerated pace for play-by-post format.

Here are some of the elements I want to keep in creating a superhero game:
 • Cinematic universe. The example of the Marvel Cinematic Universe should permeate the setting. This means the player characters are all heroes of their own stories. I also want the mundane to fit in neatly with the wondrous. Magic, gods, and super-science should fit in neatly and coherently together, but not be incomprehensibly smushed together.
 • Socially realistic. I don't want the setting we create to be completely unrecognizable from our own world. In fact, I would prefer a setting that is much like our world, at least on the surface, with appropriate responses from the populace, governments, et cetera.
 • Heroic action. I want the player characters to be heroes. While I don't expect astonishing paragons of virtue, I do expect characters, while struggling to come to terms with their own flaws and human nature, to come to the right, heroic action.

Please direct your questions towards the game, as I do not check this thread often.

This game is rated Mature.

The set up is a multi-Doctor story with Companions from any Doctor welcome. Players would play at least one Companion and possibly one Doctor (if the player is interested). This would be a big mess of time travel and paradoxes so all kinds of mayhem will ensue. Mechanics would be bog standard FAE with a few elements of Core thrown in, namely a wider variety of stunts.

Dresden Files - Hard Traveling Heroes

Now that I've had the time to really go through the Paranet Papers, I want to run another Dresden Files game...

With genocide comes an enormous power-vacuum... And there's always folks trying to fill that empty hole... The things that used to go bump in the night? They're going bump in the day, now, too.

This is a Dresden Files game. Power-level, skill-level and skill-cap have not been defined yet, but we're probably going with Submerged/10 Refresh, 35/Superb. The setting is to take place after the events of Changes, but we won't be interacting much with the named characters from the books. I'm more interested in your stories!

This is intended to be an "on the road" game. We will need to come up with a reason why this group is always traveling. At the moment, I'm leaning toward a special group of orphans, hunters and agents hunting the supernatural things that go bump in the night.

I am taking inspiration from Supernatural, Person of Interest & Brimstone...

I want heroes, though. This doesn't necessarily mean white knights, but I don't have room for antiheroes...

Check out: Hard Traveling heroes at:

Wheel of FATE

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind whipped across the Caralain Grass. It blew across the plains until it was interrupted by the Braem Wood. There, fingers of that wind reached between the enormous boles, as if searching for something to touch. One finger of that wind touched a small village called Jornhill, nestled within the Braem Wood. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

I am looking for players to join a Wheel of Time game that will be run using the FATE system. It will be an amalgam of FATE core and Dresden Files (mainly the magic system and skills). If you enjoy the Wheel of Time setting and are interested in joining a game set there, come check it out!

link to another game

I'm looking for around 6 total players in the game, but would also welcome people to either lurk or kibitz that are interested in seeing how the FATE system works with the Wheel of Time. As the system aspects are somewhat of a work-in-progress, I would welcome any feedback from players and lurkers alike.

The Fate of the World

Necessary Evil done through Fate Accelerated. A world where all the superheroes have been wiped out by an alien invasion. The only ones left to stop them are the supervillains.

Nobody takes over our world, but US!

I had started this a few weeks ago with a couple of players. One of those players ghosted out without a word of warning. We were still in the first episode and are still interested in playing out this campaign.

I am looking for one or two people to get it restarted. Feel free to look through what we've done to see the tone. But, rest assured, we will be restarting fresh so everyone will get in on the ground floor.

Players Wanted - Fate Core Fantasy

Put a game together in response to a GMs wanted ad, then the initial player looking bailed. I'm left with a game with but one player right now. The world isn't even fleshed out. So... I'm looking for two or three more.

I've made a couple of attempts in the past, but I haven't actually run a Fate Core game. I've run a handful of Dresden Files games, though. So, hopefully, it'll be easy to translate over...

The Veiled Hand
link to another game

For nearly two generations, the Kingdom of Kumlar has enjoyed peace and relative prosperity. But now the spring rains failed to fall and a great drought has come upon the land. King Dorian lies sick abed and his twin sons are not yet of age to take the throne.

The Khunic Empire, the sleeping bear to the west, threatens the borders with increasing political tensions. Political changes there have introduced ancient elements of slavery and sacrifice back into the culture. The Tarenti riders of the great Northern plains have recently sent emissaries to Kumlar, calling upon ancient promises of aid against the Eyes of the Mondain, looking South from the mountains once more.

A vocal religious sect known as The Grey has established itself in Marat, and issued a challenge to the Edict of Pantheistic Unity. The Heirophant has not responded, having gone into seclusion for a year and a day...

Signs and portents cluster, suggesting dark days are returning. And all the while, something stirs, seething: an ancient evil that has not forgotten the names of those who drove it underground...

This is a Fate Core Fantasy game. What's above is the broadest strokes of the setting. The setting will be built together as we push forward. I'm looking for strong characters with drama built-in. They should be flawed characters, and characters with potential. They should be characters who want something...

First scenario:
The Duchess of Marat has gone missing. Officially, she'd been travelling to the Western village of Windwood, to learn the art of the luthier from one of the kingdom's top craftsmen who will open the Tournament of Flowers, the festival that opens the wedding season.

Tianxia or Mass Effect

Long time follower in this Forum, first time poster, so I apologize in advance if this is the wrong section for this post.

Would anyone be willing to GM a FATE Core game using either the Tianxia expansion or the free Mass Effect hack? I'm very interested in playing in one of those settings.

Tianxia or Mass Effect

Tianxia is something I've been toying with for awhile. Might be a little bit before I actually get a game going for that setting since I am still working on my Edge of the Empire tabletop game.

I had been toying with an idea influenced by Three Musketeers. Essentially an Empress's Guard type story whereby the characters are part of a unit dedicated to protecting the Empress and carrying out objectives for her agenda. There would be a touch of the swashbuckling bravado along with friendly and not so friendly duels with the Emperor's Guard. I had ideas to sprinkle in some espionage as well.

Fallout - FAE

Just posted this in Players Wanted.

This will be a one off adventure based on the popular franchise, Fallout. PCs will handle their character creation by themselves; the goal is to spend very little time here to get to roleplaying faster.

The general story line is all PCs have been wasteland wonders for varying amounts of time and have been brought together to accomplish a goal that will be outlined in the opening scenes.

Please join us for what I hope will be a memorable adventure!!

Dark Matter themed game

link to another game

Hey everybody! New here. And this is my first post :)

So the above game is rated ADULT.

It's based off of dark matter(yes, that amazing SciFi show). I have three players and I'm looking for at least two more. The players are on a crew, and will all purchase a ship together then have adventures of their own. Plot details aren't decide yet, but basically its a sandbox, and the players will get to take jobs, become pirates, etc.

Come check it out!

Wanted GM: link to a message in another game Ever since GURPS had a Discworld supplement, I've always wanted to play a Sentient Ferret Inna Watch. FATE Core just seems more focused on Narrative Causality than GURPS though.

I'm definitely interested in your game idea as well. It seems like an interesting take on the Tianxia setting which is great to begin with.

GM Wanted--Star Wars Solo

I've been looking for a fast-paced solo game for a bit, and unfortunately I haven't had anything truly solidify yet. I saw the Force Awakens when it released and I found it enjoyable, despite a few flaws. It certainly rekindled my interest in the universe. My favorite part about the Star Wars universe is probably the physics-defying World War II style dogfights and space battles. They may not be realistic, but they are so much fun to watch. I thought it might be fun to play a game where that's heavily featured, but that also left room to explore other stuff. Thus, I came up with the idea below.

This can really fit into the universe anywhere around the Rebellion Era, though it's set more on the Fringe side of things. I've put some work into fleshing out the setting and NPCs to lighten the load of a potential GM. It's all below under the character sheet.

I built the character using Fate Core (altered some skill names to make them more setting friendly) and the Armour rules from Camelot Trigger (Worlds in Shadow) to represent the Return to Sender and starship combat.

If somebody likes the idea and wants to GM for me, hit me up via rMail.

Spacers who have seen Rilon Bralt pilot a starship say he must have been born with flight controls in his hand. The thought is not far from the actual truth. Rilon was born in a shuttle cockpit out in the Mess. His mother had been working on repairs to a stalled freighter adrift at the edge of the system when she'd unexpectedly gone into labor. The shocked freighter captain had attempted to fly her back to Siccar station, but they didn't make it in time. Thankfully, mother and baby were both fine. Maybe it was coming into the galaxy during that turbulent shuttle ride, or maybe it was just growing up on a space station. Either way, Rilon always wanted his own starship.

Rilon grew up elbow deep in machine grease as he helped his parents with their Starship repair business. He was helping his father repair docking rings on a GX1 at six, and retooling the hyperdrive of a YT-2400 with his mother at nine. Rilon knew the ins-and-outs of starhip repair by the time he hit his teens, but what he really wanted to do was fly one. When he was thirteen he borrowed, with encouragement from his best friend Sienn, the Portmaster's shuttle for a joy ride through The Mess. Rilon had a wonderful time twisting and swooping the clunky old shuttle through the thickest debris while Sienn laughed and squealed with delight. When he docked back at the station, Rilon expected to be in a world of trouble, but the Portmaster offered him a job as a harbor pilot before turning him over to his angry father.

As a harbor pilot it was Rilon's job to pilot vessels safely through the Mess when their Captains were either unwilling or unable to do so. He delighted in plotting the most challenging course possible and he never had an accident, though there were a few close calls. An old friend of Rilon's father and frequent visitor to Siccar Station, Captain Terral Drubus, aka Uncle Terral, took notice of Rilon's piloting skills and he promised to take Rilon onto his crew when he came of age. But Captain Drubus's freighter, Endless Horizons was hit by pirates before it could come to pass. Captain Drubus and several members of his crew, including Sienn's older sister Tuula who served aboard the vessel, were killed.

Seeing the grief of the Rha family, Rilon's parents made him promise that he wouldn't sign on to a freighter. Worried about his aging parents, Rilon reluctantly agreed and stayed aboard Siccar Station. Piracy steadily increased in the Outer Rim, especially along the Triellus Trade Route which was far from any legitimate authority. Though guarded Hutt-backed convoys still made the trip, spacer crews and smugglers who couldn't afford the protection fees were understandably reluctant to travel the route and the lack of commerce began affecting Siccar station considerably. Meanwhile, driven by her grief over the death of her Sister, Sienn began to make even more reckless decisions than usual.

Knowing the station wouldn't last if things continued on their current course and determined to help Sienn heal by finding a focus for her grief, Rilon came up with a plan. As discreetly as he could, he reached out to his contacts in the Smuggler community with a deal. He was willing to conduct repairs and make less-than-legal modifications to Starships in exchange for a space worthy starship and a few military grade armaments. At first, he didn't get many offers, but once he let slip his intentions, he found himself with more than enough interest. He meant to take the fight to the pirates. He intended to take back the Triellus Trade Route or die trying.

He slowly collected weaponry, necessary ship parts, but a ship was almost impossible to come by without cold-hard credits. An associate of Captain Drubus contacted him with a bargain deal on a ship. He'd received an old prototype vessel as collateral on a business venture and rather than going through the expense of refitting it, he was happy to give in to the cause in Captain Drubus's memory provided that Rilon could cover his losses. Even with such a good deal, and Sienn's Sabaac winnings, Rilon couldn't afford the ship, though a last minute donation for Haup covered the difference. The ship, a HWK-1000, arrived within the month. Once his parents learned what he meant to do, they were furious and upset, but, despite their protests, Rilon couldn't be dissuaded from his course. He put ever ounce of free-time and every credit he had into the ship.

While the stock HWK-1000 was an impressive ship, it completely lacked armaments. It would be impossible to hunt pirates with an unarmed ship. Rilon heavily modified the HWK-1000 to suit his needs. He replaced the cargo berths with black-market weaponry—quad laser cannons, twin ion cannons, and an ordnance launcher. This firepower is careful concealed giving the ship the appearance of an unarmed freighter until it is time to open fire. Rilon also installed advanced targeting arrays to support the new weaponry. He worked tirelessly to tweak every bit of performance he could from the already high-output Ion Turbine and ensured the ship's handling didn't suffer at higher speeds by handcrafting an engine stabilizer ring of his own design. The result was an incredibly fast and maneuverable gunboat well-suited to dealing not only with starfighters, but larger vessels as well. After adding the finishing touch of a one-of-a-kind paint job, Rilon christened the ship Return to Sender. He is ready to show the sector, maybe the whole Rim, his skills as a pilot.

Rilon Bralt
High Concept
Hotshot Pilot - Rilon is a talented and daring pilot. He is eager to prove his skills to the galaxy at large.
Invoke: Prove your piloting skills, make a difficult shot with a spaceship's weapons, know something about well-traveled Hyperspace Routes or infamous Pirate clans.
Compel: Be a Showboat

Trouble
A Lot On My Shoulders – Rilon has taken on a lot expectations lately and he feels the weight of them on his shoulders. He feels responsible for the people of Siccar station, for Sienn, for his parents, for the Traders trying to make a living along the Triellus Route and he doesn't want to fail them.
Invoke: To succeed when failure is not an option
Compel: One of Rilon's responsibilities complicates his life, feel the pressure of his choices, Feel responsible for taking care of someone else.

Aspects
Sienn Has My Back- Sienn is Rilon's co-pilot, his life long friend, and his sometimes lover. Though their relationship can be tempestuous they have always been there for each other, especially when things were at their worst. Sienn always has Rilon's back no matter what and he has hers.
Invoke: Impress Sienn, Have Sienn as backup where she isn't expected, have the two of them make a great team.
Compel: Sienn's temper causes problems, put Sienn in danger.

Starship Technician- Rilon knows practically everything there is to know about how to operate, maintain, repair, and upgrade a starship. He's certain this gives him an edge over pilots who don't know the difference between a phase converter and a stabilizer.
Invoke: Tweaking the shields for maximum output, know something about the workings of a particular type of starship, make a jury-rigged repair.
Compel: Take extra time to do a job right, Upkeep costs exceed current income.

Return to Sender- Rilon's custom HWK-1000. Rilon has customized the ship using every ounce of his technical know-how to turn the light freighter into a sleek and well-armed gunboat. He is extremely protective of the ship and won't let anyone work on it but himself.
Invoke: Get every bit of performance out of the ship, Have the Ship earn a positive reputation, Give as good as you get.
Compel: Refuse aid in making repairs or modifications, repairs require custom parts, have the ship be the victim of sabotage.

Skills
+4 Pilot
+3 Blast, Mechanics
+2 Notice, Vigor, Will
+1 Athletics, Contacts, Empathy, Rapport

Stunts
Made Some Improvements: Rilon has spent his life working with his parents to repair starships and he's learned a thing or two. Whenever he succeeds with style on an overcome action to repair a piece of machinery, he can immediately give it a new situation aspect (with a free invoke) reflecting the improvements he's made, instead of just a boost.

Nothing Compared to the Mess Most of the galaxy's asteroid fields seem tame compared to The Mess, and Rilon has been flying that since he was an adolescent. He receives +2 on Pilot to Overcome aspects or obstacles that hinder movement.

That all you got?: Rilon is an excellent pilot, and not one easily out-flown. Once per conflict, he may stack an additional free invoke on an advantage he's created to represent out-flying an opponent (like On Your Tail).

Brilliant Evasion: Rilon is a brilliant evasive pilot making good use of his craft's capabilities as well as the environment to elude opponents. He receives +2 on Pilot to Defend if his last Pilot defense roll was a success with style.

Koiogran Turn: One of Rilon's favorite tactics surprising his opponent by turning a defensive posture into an offensive and gaining an advantage. On a success with style when defending with Pilot, Rilon may inflict a 2-shift hit on his attacker instead of getting a boost.

Return To Sender-- CEC HWK-1000 Light Freighter
Though the advent of the Clone Wars virtually doomed the sales of HWK-series light freighters, designers at Corellia Engineering never gave up the idea of a sleek, fast transport to match their own love of speed. Encouraged by advances in ion drive technology, CEC instituted plans to revive the HWK-series, constructing several prototypes designated the HWK-1000. While both initial performance and marketing tests delivered promising results for the HW-290's possible successor, CEC executives scrapped the project after Imperial authorities objected to the speed and performance of the freighter, which rivaled some military starfighters. While the HWK-1000 never went into production, a clerical error resulted in several hundred prototype models rolling off the line at CEC's factory on Halyard II. To recoup their losses CEC surreptitiously sold the ships through various Outer Rim networks.

While the stock HWK-1000 was an impressive ship, it completely lacked armaments. It would be impossible to hunt pirates with an unarmed ship. Rilon modified the HWK-1000 to suit their needs. He worked tirelessly to tweak every bit of performance he could from the already high-output Ion Turbine and ensure the ship's handling didn't suffer at higher speeds. The result is an incredibly fast and maneuverable gunboat that is well-suited to dealing not only with starfighters, but also larger vessels as well.

Return to Sender has a distinctive silver and yellow paint job designed to attract attention in space. It's noise features a snarling mouth giving the vessel the impression of some great devouring beast.

Reverse Telemetry Targeting Array: +2 Blast to attack a target who has attacked you first.
Twin Light Ion Cannons: +2 Blast to create Disabled advantages on opponents.
High-Output Ion Turbine: You move two zones for free in a conflict without rolling, instead of one, provided there are no situation aspects restricting movement.
Engine Ring Stabilizer: +2 Pilot to Defend provided you moved at least two zones last turn.
Reinforced Shield Generator: +2 bonus Mechanics to create advantages related to activating, restoring or boosting shields.

Siccar Station
Astrogation Data: Siccar System, Baxel Sector, Outer Rim Territories
Orbital Metrics: 350 days per year / 24 hours per day
Government: Local
Population: 400 (53% Human, 17% Twi'lek, 30% assorted other species)
Languages: Basic
Terrain: Urban, space station
Major Cities: ---
Areas of Interest: Dor's Emporium, Idle Fancy Casino, Bralt's Repair
Major Exports: Starship fuel and repairs
Major Imports: Food, water, technology, information
Trade Routes: Triellus Trade Route
Special Conditions: none
Background: Originally built as a mining outpost to harvest the valuable mineral resources of the densely packed asteroid field known by locals as The Mess, Siccar Station is a small space station with no particular claim to fame other than its location at the midway point between Teth and Aduba along the Triellus Trade Route. It's mining operations long defunct, it now provides a convenient port for Captains to refuel, rearm, and collect information in an otherwise desolate section of space. The constant flow of traders and smugglers ensures that Siccar Station occasionally sees interesting or exotic good pass through on their way to the bustling markets of less backwater ports. Siccar station is home to several hundred people and a number of ships and their crews at any one time.

The bulk of Siccar Station consists of large docking facilities for the storage of cargo and starships. Crowded in between the sprawling docks and the necessary infrastructure of the station are the individual shops and dwellings (the two are often one and the same) of the settlement proper. A few traders have set up businesses in the spaceport selling foodstuffs, water, weapons, and the sort of equipment required by fringers, smugglers, and spacers.

System Geography
The Triellus Trade Route: The Triellus spans more than seventy-five thousand light years from Centares to its endpoint at Enarc and forms one leg of the infamous Spice Triangle with Death Wind Corridor and the Rimward length of the Correllian Run. Travel along the so-called “Hutt Highway” is slow, hazardous, and frequented by smugglers, pirates, and worse. Many would prefer to avoid this route altogether, but those down-on-their-luck often have no choice.

The Mess: While the Siccar system isn't home to any habitable celestial bodies, it is home to a a bevy of barren planetoids, and judging by the widespread debris fields, it was once home to a lot more than that. All that remains of those ancient planets is an incredibly dense debris field that stretches through a wide swath of the system. The composition of the debris plays havoc on starship sensors making flying in or through the The Mess very dangerous. The erratic movement of the system's many planetoids often plays havoc on the debris fields often slinging lose asteroids through the system, until they too are caught in an erratic orbit around the system's sun. The Mess does provide Siccar Station with a natural defense versus attack, but it can also makes the approach to the station treacherous for those not used to making it.

Personalities
Sienn Rha: A blue-skinned Twi'lek, Sienn is Rilon's copilot and on-again/off-again girlfriend. They have a volatile relationship where they are either passionately in love or fighting like wild Krayt dragons. Thankfully, they are “on again” at the moment, because the modifications to the Return To Sender make the crew accommodations decidedly cozy. Rilon and Sienn have known each other their entire lives as both of their families are fixtures on Siccar Station. They started out as best friends and, once they were older, became more.

The sixth of seven children, Sienn is as rough and tumble as they come--a scrapper through and through. She's soundly beaten opponents two or three times her own size, usually after they've accused her of cheating at Sabaac. Sienn doesn't cheat, she's just a very skilled player, and she never appreciates the accusation. Every resident and traveler on Siccar station willing to gamble has been cleaned out by her at least once. Few make the mistake a second time.

Sienn worked as the bouncer of the Idle Fancy for a time until it was discovered that she and Haup had organized an underground fighting ring. The ring was closed down nearly as soon as it had opened, but Sienn had gotten enough of a taste to know she wanted more out of life than what she could find on the station.

Dor Rha: Sienn's father and owner of Dor's Emporium, Dor Rha is the closest thing that Siccar Station has to a magistrate or governor. A shrewd business man, he is well-liked, and has the station’s best interests at heart.

Keesa Rha: Sienn's mother and the station's only doctor. She had hoped that her daughter Sienn would follow in her footsteps, but Sienn's proclivities run in the opposite direction. Rilon gets the distinct impression that she blames him for being a bad influence on Sienn.

Wilm and Thelna Bralt: Rilon's father and mother, a pair of skilled starship repair technicians. They maintain the aging Siccar Station and are available for hire to repair any ailing starship that comes into port.

Haup Ywe: The Neimoidian proprietor of the Idle Fancy Casino does well for himself and he lets it show. His fingers are adorned with gaudy rings, he wears elegant clothing, and carries a gilded blaster at his belt. Some people resent him, but like him or not, he has a near monopoly on leisure on Siccar Station.

Xizam:Xizam, a wizened Nikto, serves as the nearest thing to the Law on Siccar Station. He keeps the peace, helps break up the bar fights, and takes care of the occasional passing trouble maker. On the occasions he has been forced to, Xizam has proven himself an incredibly capable combatant. Some folks whisper how odd it is that such a seasoned warrior would stay in a place like Siccar Station, but none are inclined to pry in Xizam's business.

Places of Interest
Dor's Emporium: The Emporium offers all the basic sundries any spacer could ask for, basic arms and armor, as well as bulk trade goods that might interest the traders and smugglers passing through Siccar Station. If it can be found on Siccar station, Dor has it.

Bralt's Repair: First opened by Rilon's paternal grandfather, now owned and operated by his parents. They mostly repair starships, but they'll work on anything that needs fixing for a paying customer.

Idle Fancy Casino: A live band, gambling, and a full bar ensure this dimly lit casino and cantina does as brisk a business as any place can on Siccar Station.

We need two players who are willing to try and stick it out for at least another mission. All I am asking for is a 3+ posts a week.

Who Are You And Why Are You Here?

Who Are You And Why Are You Here? ( link to another game )

This is an interactive storytelling game where a lot of play is improvisational and spontaneous. We will be using the Fate system, and the game will most likely be solo, though small groups should be manageable. If there are more solo games going on perhaps some characters can eventually meet up.

Character creation and even world creation happens during play, though I can provide examples to help stir the imagination.

The first post, which you could consider the RTJ (Request To Join) message, so you will be the question: "Who are you and why are you here?" This can lead to many diverse games and game styles.

Possible answers might be:
 1. I am Pujo, a furry fairy creature from the fairy realm. I am here in the human world to deliver the golden feather to the chosen child worthy of it.
 2. I am Ricardo, leader of the bowling group: Ricardo's Rolling Rockstars! I am here with my team to take our rightful first place at the world tournament! We will have to win first of course, but we will totally do that! It is but a formality!
 3. I am Xian-Lu, Space Archeologist with the Intergalactic Historical Association. I am here to verify the rumour of a legendary piece of equipment that supposedly existed on this planet. The fabled VCR.

Questions will follow this starting situation, which might or might not complete the character or the world further. But the intention is to keep it moving forward during character creation. So it might be good to keep in mind what your character is good at, and what they aren't good at or what gives them trouble.
I might ask for a rival in Ricardo's example, while I might ask which approach Xian-Lu uses in her searching has got her into trouble before. With Pujo I might ask what the biggest obstacle is in his reaching the Child.

From there we keep on playing and imagining. I think it's gonna be fun! As for the technicalities, we can decide on skills or approaches in game, though having thought on it beforehand might help move play along.

My posting rate will most likely be rather slow. Some days I can post multiple times and other days not at all. So if you are looking for a fast paced game I will disappoint you, but if you are erratic in posting, no problem there! It's solo, so you are bothering nobody with the delay.

The above game is rated ADULT

So I have decided to change my game rules over to FATE Core. However, the only thing needed at first is your high concept, trouble, and skills. Adventure, aspects, and stunts can be done as we go along.

The game takes place in the year 2300. It is semi sandbox open "galaxy". Basically tell me what about the galaxy interests you, what you want to do, and I'll set a story up for you! There are various factions, ancient alien mysteries, worlds to explore, laws to break, and wars to be fought!

come check it out!

Adventure in The Galaxy!

Been a long time. Long enough to forget I was in this discussion forum. In any case, I have had a character idea that I have been wanting to play for a while now:

Felix
High Concept: Sentient Ferret
Trouble: Too small for his own good.
First Adventure: Too Much F**kin' Lab Work (name and specifics are tentative)
Felix was practically born in a pharmaceutical research facility where they would feed him different drugs and some not so druggy things. One day one of the scientists shouted some blasphemy, and Felix replied "Wait, what?". Felix isn't sure why the scientist used the obscene language, or why he understood, but his current theory is he has nanobots in his brain.

Skills
+4: Stealth
+3: Athletics, Burglary
+2: Provoke, Will, Notice
+1: Investigate, (Unchosen x3)

Stunts
Varmint Vanish
(Stealth) Once per scene, you can vanish while in plain sight by spending a fate point, and making a beeline for a nearby hole no bigger around than a grown man's arm. This places the Vanished boost on you. While you’re vanished, no one can attack or create an advantage on you until after they’ve succeeded at an overcome roll with Notice to suss out where you went (basically meaning they have to give up an exchange to try). This aspect goes away as soon as you invoke it, or someone makes that overcome roll.

Rodent Mazerunning
(Notice) Any time Felix uses Notice to Create an Advantage for an Escape Route, the path is so small precarious that he cannot be followed by human sized adversaries.

(I wanted one for Athletics that was functionally equivalent to Sprinter, except it allowed Felix to move two zones as long as he could enter and exit through a wall, but I couldn't think of a name for it.

Also this character is mouthy, so I would prefer an adult game but would settle for Mature.)

I've started putting together a FATE game borrowing the Black Crusade setting. Its an adult game (Black Crusade can get pretty nasty) but if there are any interested parties, the game is linked above.

Normal Folks Adapting to Karthun (FAE)

I'm starting my second Fate game! link to another game I'm looking for 1 or 2 players only though. The game is rated Mature, for the nasty undeads.

I'm also looking for feedback on the minimal setup I have done :)

The game is about a group of normal folk from today earth transported to a strange land. The strange land in question is Karthun, a unusual setting inspired by D&D.

For minimally more information, you can check the wanted gm ad link to a message in another game

I'd be interested in joining a game. I am running two (non-Fate) games myself right now, and I don't think I could handle another one.

Probably "space opera" since I'm not familiar with "atomic robo." Perhaps you mean something specific by "space opera" in which case I'm possibly not familiar with that either.

I would love to join in a FATE game. Atomic Robo is one of my favorite comic books and I have the game based on it.

Space Opera as a genre is something I would enjoy as well, but it really needs to be defined a bit more as it is a very broad genre. Alien, Aliens, Dune, Flash Gordon, Star Wars, and many more all fall under the loose heading of Space Opera.

So the space opera comes from me playing a ton of Star Realms lately. Not sure if that type of game fits well in Fate.

When I think space opera, my mind usually goes to outlaw star/cowboy bebop type of stuff. A ragtag group of folks in their own ship getting into trouble. The 40k universe also comes to mind. I'm eyeballing the fate space tool kit.. could give me an excuse to pick it up.

Does this line up with something you all would be interested in?

My preference would be just to use the Fate rules without any extras, if that's possible. Part of what I like about it is its simplicity.

Fate games are rarer than mushroom rings I think. I myself have been wanting to try Wolf's head the new Fate World that came out. Keep going to almost run it and then my available time gets eaten up by a spike on another game.

Atomic Robo looks like a fun world setting, but never played it at all so not too sure how Space Opera it would feel.

Atomic Robo isn't Space Opera usually. It is Action Science!TM It can include Space Opera, but it is usually on Earth. Or at least an Earth.

It's not that atomic robo is space opera. Space opera was the other option offered.

FAE: On a Boat

Fleshing out an idea for a game. Think Freeport but low to no fantasy; going for more swashbuckling and less spellcasting. I'm not married to FAE, could do Core. I just need 3ish committed players to help me build up the story a little more, classic fate style. Is anyone interested? Hoping for 3 posts a week, with a bit more when there's a conflict going on.

Basic Premise
A merchant ship is making its way to the other side of the sea with a precious cargo, when a devious plot to steal the cargo is hatched.

Campaign Aspects
- The sea is a two edge sword.
- When you have pirates, who needs enemies.

NPCs

The Captain
N: Captain Henry Red-Chin
HC: Veteran Merchant Captain of the Seven Seas
T: Did you say gold?!

First Mate
N: Jacques The Nimble
HC: Ambitious Ex-Pirate Turned Explorer
T: Always a captain’s mate, never a captain.

The Bad Guy
N: Griswell Dark Eye
HC: Pirate Captain of the
T: Never Learned to Swim

Fate Star Wars

I've been a long time Fate GM and would really like the opportunity to play. Also, since season 2 of Mandalorian ended I've been picking up the Clone Wars animated series and this has REALLY got me in the mood for a Star Wars story... but I have never actually gotten the chance to PLAY Fate, so here I am.

Would anyone have an interest in running a Fate (preferably accelerated, but Core/Condensed work too) Star Wars game? My only stipulation is that I want to play a Jedi character. I don't care if I'm the only one, I'm cool with that, but otherwise the game can be whatever you want it to be.

Any takers?

Fate-Core Space-Opera (Beginners Welcome)

I just finished binge-watching Dark Matter. So, I'm eager to put something together in the same vein...

The PCs were held in stasis in a small space-station awaiting transport to a penal colony. When the station they're on gets attacked, their personalities are "quick-loaded" back into their bodies. The PCs manage to get to an impounded ship and get off the station before it blows...

So, they're on a ship. They don't have all their memories. People are going to be hunting them... What now??

The "quick-load" is a narrative excuse for why we don't know much about our characters nor the state of the galaxy. The characters have a fog because we, the players, haven't defined things yet.

Influences for the look & feel of this game are, in no particular order:
Bulldogs, Dark Matter, Killjoys, Farscape, Firefly/Serenity, Diaspora, Guardians of the Galaxy, Scum & Villainy (FITD), Eclipse Phase, The Expanse, Nova Praxis, Mindjammers, GURPS Transhuman Space

Normal Folks Adapting to Karthun (FAE)

Is anyone still interested in playing FATE?

I created my own FATE system more than 15 years ago based loosely on Spirit of the Century, but set in a dystopian future. I've never done anything with it, I mostly enjoyed the act of creation, though I had hoped to run a game with it one day. However, the few FATE games I've been in have died abornin', and I became discouraged with playing such a game online.

Anyway, I'm down to only a single game that I'm playing (PathFinder 2) and I haven't found anything else that stirs my interest. So I started looking at this game that I set up a few years ago (based on my decade-old, at the time) rule system and thinking how much fun it would be if I could find some real FATE players.

link to another game

The game is strictly human, no zombies or magic or anything else. However, the player characters and named characters will be heroic, dwarfing the minions significantly, to the level of James Bond or a Bruce Lee movie. I don't like all the magical stuff because people depend on that to make their characters interesting instead of personality and role playing.

I only want to do this if there are at least three other people who are on RPoL nearly every day, who can write, and who love to push the story along. I do want you to create background and scenery that can be used in fun and interesting ways, and even to take charge of the NPC's now and then. People who only react, just so they can roll their dice at the right times are not really what I'm looking for.

I've resisted pulling the trigger on this game because I'm too frustrated with games that only last a month or two, then get ghosted. So, if you have ever ghosted a game (without a good reason, such as an abusive GM), please don't bother. I would expect the courtesy of a note, at the very least. If you frequently get bored with games after a couple of months and then drop out, please don't bother. If reading this much text is too much for you, please don't bother.

As with any writing endeavor (and I do consider this a joint writing endeavor more than anything else), there will be times of great fun and excitement and times when it seems a little like a chore. Please be someone prepared to work though that part. Otherwise, ... well, you guessed it.

Is anyone interested?
