Re: The OOC Questions Thread

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm in the Boat, which is adjacent to Depths and not shallows, then the current two tentacles (being in Shallows) can't attack me immediately, correct?

Re: The OOC Questions Thread

In reply to Fiernas Holm (msg # 456):

Normally attacks can only affect things in the same area unless they have a range (like a gun or laser vision), are enormous (like Godzilla), or are very fast (like a Juggernaut charge).

On topic, neither tentacle can currently threaten the boat's occupants directly with a melee attack, nor could they threaten the BOAT directly with a melee attack, as the boat itself is not in the Shallows either.

To fire a gun from the Boat and strike something in the Shallows you'd need a range of at least 2.

I'm not saying the tentacles don't have tricks, of course, but they aren't so big that they can cross areas with a melee attack.

How big ARE they?  Can we get approximate length and diameter?

In reply to Fiernas Holm (msg # 458):

Areas don't really have a set dimension beyond "an amount of space you could probably run through in about 10 seconds, provided you were a super hero". It's a bit abstract in this game, but they DO tend to be much, much larger than the 5x5 squares other games use.

I hope we won't, but in case we need a worst case: The dogs can survive unprotected in liquid methane for a little while.  Not like Barachiel, but proportionate to an unprotected human drifting in the North Atlantic.

Do I want to know if there is a reason for the severed tentacles still being mentioned?

Also as far as combat logistics Barachial and Kayla can move more than one area away correct?  So I am trying to tell them to run away to the effective range of their weapons (like 3 or 4 areas away) to give us some breathing room.  I think we need to kite this guy.  Especially if I can act as bait.

In reply to Nightmare (msg # 467):

Also how does the table scale relative to this kind of size.

I imagine a TY Godzilla sized monster is significantly stronger than a an IN human... but where do these scales overlap?

Would aiming at body parts work in this situation?  For example attacking the legs?  Do we get stats for those?

Re: The OOC Questions Thread

In reply to Nightmare (msg # 468):

In the world of super heroes size doesn't really do anything aside from giving you bonuses to strength and movement and maybe some AOE potential. Limbs don't normally have separate health pools -- the tentacles are special in that way.

Refer to the rules thread for movement specifics, but yes it's possible to move more than one area at a time on normal terrain, at the cost of doing nothing else.

Note that very big things can cover more ground more quickly than very small things more often than not. And they may or may not have a different layout of "areas" to use. An ant might view a dining room as 10 areas, while you would treat it as 1.

Re: The OOC Questions Thread

In reply to Nightmare (msg # 470):

So. For starters, you can't slam anything unless your strength is greater than their protection. Likely not relevant here but it's important to note.

If you attack someone grappling a friendly, and you manage to slam them, I suppose you'd have a chance at slamming his target along for the ride or potentially releasing them from the hold via the slam.

I don't think there are rules for that but I'll check if it becomes relevant. This thing's Endurance is so high I can't imagine it ever failing a Slam check but it's good to know.

Re: The OOC Questions Thread

In reply to Fiernas Holm (msg # 473):

You could help him by breaking the tentacles, or by getting a hold on him and winning a strength check to yank him free potentially.

You can also give a general "help" to grant bonus CS to his escapes.

You can't do any of that at range except trying to shred the tentacles themselves. You'll need a bullseye to hit them specifically as it's a called shot.

The best way to help someone in a grapple usually is to grab the other guy. A tentacle beast is far from "usual" though!
