Trusting Dynamis to idle safely for a few minutes, she goes to fetch her EVA suit and quickly dons it.

Penny looks around frantically, joining the other passengers in generally trying to talk over each other in a panic.

"You're just lucky," Fiernas informs Billy as he straps on his suit's helmet. "So many new friends."

"Do the condemned get EVA suits?" Gestalt asks, nodding to Timon and himself from his bound position in the cargo bay.

There are five standard EVA suits on board, plus any customized suits you brought with you (Kayla is among those with her own).

Not counting the PCs and Kayla, there are 4 passengers and 3 prisoners (if you still count Penny as the latter), so there are not enough suits to go around.

Bily dials up the volume on his helmet's speakers before declaring, "Shut up!" over the small, panicked crowd.  He hands out EVAs to the four former Prisoners in the common area before looking at Penny. Holding the last EVA he turns to Fiernas, "You don't happen to have any more dog tarps, do you?"

"No, I do not have any more 'tarps,'" Fiernas answers in a disapproving tone.

"Dynamis, how long can an unshielded human survive this kind of exposure?  And where is it coming from?"

"I'd also like to know that," Billy attempts to circumvent any chain of command arguments.

The radiation output of the nearest star at this location is roughly 400 times what Earth receives from Sol. At this rate, every day we remain here is equal to an entire year in local space.

Numbers scroll across the various viewpanels.

Estimating roughly 2.6 mSv/day. For contrast, a standard chest X-ray produces just 0.2 mSv, and requires protection to avoid damaging underlying tissue. It is recommended that humans receive no more than 1.0 mSv/year.

The numbers fade.

It is unlikely to immediately kill you, but living cells left exposed for long will become damaged.

"God dammit," Billy throws the EVA at Penny unceremoniously and marches to the cockpit.  Heaving a heavy sigh he looks out the viewport and sorely wishes his helmet didn't prevent the pinching of the bridge of his nose.  "Dynamis do you see any mirrored stars?  Any sign of...anything out here?  I'm not above killing terrorists, but microwaving them alive seems cruel and unusual."

Xander takes a moment to bring up the security protocols within Abraxas' central core.

Sophia, make a map of my - our - neural network. I want a deep code failsafe embedded in the core. Abraxas will not power on unless it detects our specific dynamic pattern.

Once done, he cracks the cockpit with a hiss. Leaping back down, he intercepts the EVA suit as it's tossed to Penny.

Listen he says, lowering his voice. I have a better idea. With tensions this high right now, it might be best if you're...out of the way... for the moment. Abraxas' cockpit has better radiation shielding than these EVA suits. Why don't you lay low there for a bit, until we can sort this out. Just...don't touch anything.

Penny looks askance at Xander, then scampers into the mighty mech without further prompting.

"You're giving her A RAILGUN?" Gestalt exclaims. "She's dangerous! That's why I put her IN THE BRIG."

He notices the unclaimed EVA suit, then glances down at the still-unconscious Timon.

"You, uh, you gonna use that?"

Sophia, if she *does* try to touch anything, I want to know about it right away.

Xander fiddles with the EVA suit, removing the wrist blade before handing the now-disarmed EVA suit to Gestalt. While you're suiting up, you can explain why Penny is dangerous.

Fiernas keeps a sly eye on Gestalt.  "You had her in the brig because Husker had her in the brig."  His tone is nothing but pure scorn.

Nightmare flits back through the ship, disappears and the box that was containing her EVA suit opens and she emerges from it like a vampire.

She eyes Gestalt when he keeps mentioning the condemned and dying.  She squats infront of him.

Don't complain so much about dying.  It isn't that bad.  I've been dead for a few years now.  So where did this jump ring take us Gestalt?  I assume that your organization set these things up.

She asks Xander and Billy,

What about the Wasp?  is that shielded?  Could we fit someone in Abraxas with Penny?

"Yes!" Gestalt agrees, sliding into the EVA suit eagerly. "Because she is dangerous!"

He completes his ensemble and turns to regard Fiernas.

"We're saying the same thing...for once. I thought I heard your voice back there. Do I have you to thank for bringing these people to Pragnanz? Was this whole thing an undercover sting operation for the IDA?"

Rebecca glances over at the Wasp, deciding that it's probably about as well shielded against radiation as Abraxis.

(OOC: There is room for 1 in the Wasp and 2 in Abraxis, but shoving 2 in Abraxis is not comfortable at all and involves someone sitting on someone else's lap)

The general discontent aboard the shuttle was not improved by Billy's amplified command that everyone shut up, though it DOES grow somewhat quieter -- particularly once all the helmets are in place.

"Care to tell us what's going on," Durst says, ambling up to Billy with Holt near at hand. "This is all highly unusual, unless your ship usually leaks radiation..."

In reply to The Watcher (msg # 24):

Back in the cockpit, Kayla is bringing the ship around to keep it from entering Proxima b's orbit.

"So...how long until you think it'll be safe to jump back?" she asks aloud. "Or do you want to poke around here, first?"

Fiernas shows his teeth to Gestalt.  "Who knows?"

He raises his voice, to everyone and no one in particular. "While we're trying not to fry, anyone know how the Alliance of Sol was able to build a warp gate to another star?  Also: Why?"

In reply to Fiernas Holm (msg # 26):

"Anybody want to handle this one? Anybody at all?"

Gestalt looks around the cargo area, gesturing sarcastically.

"What, nobody? Just me then."

He shrugs to himself.

"Just making sure it was clear how WORTH SAVING I am. To answer your question...the Alliance of Sol didn't build these jump rings. That would be patently ridiculous."

He raises an index finger to clarify.

"What happened is, we FOUND them."

"I don't know much more than you do," Billy responds to Durst wearily, "I don't know what you all got to see before you wound up in the brig but the AoS fleet was in some kind if weird pocket space, there was a big ring structure floating in space to get in and out of it.  We came out somewhere different than we went in, where we found another fleet, rouge IDA, and a second ring.  We hit the ring rather than stay in the middle of a naval crossfire and now we're...where the hell are we?" he waves at the unfamiliar planet before them.  When Dynamis reiterates his estimation of their location Billy sighs, "Now we're in another solar system, which is distressingly rich in radiation."

Xander, in the process of ushering the UN speaker's daughter into the cockpit of the Wasp and instructing her not to touch anything, pauses mid-sentence.

Yeah, you're going to have to explain that.

Whether or not the explanation is forthcoming, he wastes no time in then putting the unconcious Timon into an EVA suit.

[OOC everybody should either be in an EVA suit or shielded from radiation at this point. No need to double up in Abraxas.]
